I'm 13 years old and have been blind since birth. I actually find that my period is one of the things I don't get anxious about. usually I know because of cramps, but I usually can tell by feel and smell!

I'm blind and I'm 16 years old, this year I've been using my Harry Potter calendar which was raised for me by my facilitator. On the day I get my period, I tell her to put a doted line of beads under the number on the month! I count from there from that collumn to the next month, but it's always delayed and it doesn't happen on the number that my fingers land on each month. This is only for 2023! Before I used the calendar, I used an app called Flo but I couldn't scroll through the app on my Braille Note Tou Plus! This meant that I couldn't log in the day that I got it! I deleted the app! I use thick period panties that my mother bought for me. I wear them when I get my period, especially when I go to school, I change during breaktimes at school with the help of my facelitator.

You have the hair color of a sunset,
The eye color of the moon,
You may not see as we do,
But that doesn't matter to you!
You can navigate the world in more ways than one,
Being blind doesn't mean you can't have any fun!
You can smell and feel and listen,
    While your eyes gorgeously glisten,
You have a truly adorable dog,
Who loves and lives to help you,
So cross the road of cross the street,
She's there to guide you through,
"I lost my vision at 17"
    Your gorgeous voice recites,
But it hasn't stopped you and it never will,
    From having human rights!!!
Your sweet and loving sister, is there to help you out,
And your family and friends to live life throughout
Your sweet fiancé is just as good with his love for you and others,
I am glad that he found you and that you have eachother.
Now as I end this, I'd like to say, although you cannot see,
That doesn't mean you can't live life JUST as happily.
To Lucy Edwards And her amazing channel.
    I hope you see this!

I think it’s great that you’re honest about how you deal with this as a blind woman because we need more people talking about it. Especially for women who are newly blind. I think Molly Burke did a video similar to this. I have thyroid problems, so that affects my time of the month. I know for me it’s usually around the 10th and I keep plenty of supplies handy so I’m not caught off guard.

I'm not blind, but my periods do have an impact on my eyes particularly the colour as I find my eyes (which are hazel coloured) go very very dull and grey when I have my period. I also get more headaches on my period and I believe this is because my eyesight goes more blurry than usual as I do require glasses and do get a lot of visual stuff going on like auras and tunnel vision etc. sometimes, but particularly when I'm on my period I get it much more. So it's super interesting to me as well that you also have experienced periods impacting your eyes.

I wonder whether or not a menstrual cup would be helpful? I've been using mine for at least five years now and I can tell you that as long as I put it in correctly (make sure it opened all the way), and as long as I empty it before it overflows, it does not leak. Not one drop. Ever. All I have to do is empty it 2-4 times a day (depending on my flow), clean it, and pop it back in.
And on a side note, I can't imagine how much money I've saved! I haven't bought pads or tampons in years. The biggest downside is that you kinda need to be near a sink when you empty it. Which for me is fine because most of the time that's just twice a day, morning and night, at home.

I think if they still offer such a thing that's a great alternative for blind females to to not have to deal with their periods. If I had lost my sight & was still getting my periods that's what I would want to do. At my age now I'm in perimenopause so I may not have to worry about my time of the month for long.

This video is quite old but it is so frustrating to hear that the doctors had no idea why your eyesight got worse when on your period. Hormones and eye sight are definately linked. A friend of mine got temporarily blindness from taking the 'combined hormone' contraceptive pill. It went away when she switched to the single-hormone pill. For me, I got crazy migraines from age 10 to 18, with horrible stinging pains in my eyes and auras, blind spots etc. They got worse when I started taking the contraceptive pill at 14, or when I was on my period. I'm so angry there isnt more research on these things!

Interesting, I had optic neuritis and lost eyesight temporarily in my right eye (about 6 months, then got back gradually in another few months). When I get my periods still I tend to get really bad eye migraines to the same eye. Eyes and hormones are linked didn't even think about it until I heard you saying that!

Periods are an anxious time for anyone who bleeds. I use reusable pants. Maybe this would be worth trying. I get period pain for a week before so it's hard to access the actual day I'll get my period so I'll wear my wuka pants and I feel confident that I wont leak and I can wear them all day cause they hold 4 tampons worth of blood. #NotAnAd

I'm 12 I'm not blind but I only just started having periods....I'm non-binary so my gender could change at any moment of every day. It's a real struggle for me, I get very bad depression and often think about suicide. My cousiler is awer of this problem and I see her every week and she helps me get through it. The problem is every 10 seconds my body changes its gender and it leaves me confused and always on the verge of crying this means I cant go into school and see my two bffs. The thing is every one around me are telling me to get used to it but its really hard and I dont think I will ever be used to it and a over thing is I have a hyper sensitive noe so it even harder. I just hope that one day I wont have to deal with this problem of mine

One thing you didn't mention is whether though you can tell have your period by smell. As a sighted person I could always tell by the distinct smell of menstruating that it is happening when I never knew when to expect it with variable cycles. Maybe I have a very good sense of smell but I always worried that if I could smell myself then others might too and unless I wore a tampon I would be self conscious by that. Have you managed to be also be guided by your nose each month?

It split my message in half! Know what kind of hysterectomy you want. Do you want to keep your ovaries, or just one. You more confident you are, the more they'll do it. Also though, your insurance won't pay if your symptoms aren't bad enough. Bugging them about what they need, etc can work. Also bring it up every time. If they keep hearing it, they know your serious, & are more likely to listen to you. Good luck, this not 🚫 advice is just my experience, & may, or may not be right for you. Remember it's your body, & you should be in control of your body. Keep working for your goal.

@@danielledewitt1 I understand, I need one, but our living situation doesn't make that possible right now. As someone whose had chronic, constant problems all her life, these are things that helped me. 1st talk seriously about your time frame if you want kids, & don't have any, or enough. They may say you only have about 2 years time. That's what was told to me. In researching this, & my experiences birth control helps a lot. Meaning a pill, or shot. If you want a period it will make it lighter, shorter, & less symptoms all around. Or choose a shot every 3 months, & you won't get a period. There's many other kinds, & talk to the doc to see what's good for you. Also if you have PCOS consider metformin. It reduces a lot of those symptoms, & in less severe, troublesome cyst. It will INcrease your chances of getting pregnant, so USE birth control, if you don't want a package 9months later! Over the counter is an supplement called evening primrose oil. It's been used for centuries. My grandma took it, & recommended it to me. She recommended the kind with rose hips in it, but it's harder to find. Also just because one doctor won't, doesn't mean another won't. You should talk to them about any medical advice like what I wrote, & what everyone else writes. To . Ale sure it's safe for you. You can always get a second opinion. Even a 3rd, or 4th. Have your reasons ready. Explain, you don't want kids, you've told your partner, or parents, if applicable. So they know you've thought about it, and are sincere. About all the pain, & inconvenience you'd save over the next 30 years. Also the money you'd save, & the good to the environment it'd do, by not purchasing pads. About what you see for your life your sure about, & that includes your uterus

That kinda sounds like maybe you were getting retinal or visual migraines? They can be triggered by hormones so lots of people get them while their on or around the time of their period. I’m not a doctor & obviously if actual doctors didn’t pick it up I’m probably wrong but the visual symptoms you described sound similar to some of the symptoms I personally experience with my chronic migraines.
