I could give you a list of reasons why I come back and listen to this podcast all the time but I'm going to give you one and the one that I'm going to give you up the list is that it always makes me laugh
I love you two !! I get excited when I see that you posted a new podcast !! My husband is the same way he will talk to anyone. I am more on the shy side I been like that ever since I was a child.
I definitely think there are two sides to this. I of course agree that the pity look and the “you’re doing this because they’re blind” thing is icky. But like seeing ollie as inspiring or being put on a pedistle doesn’t necessarily have to do with the fact that he does what he does for you because you’re blind, but rather because honestly, there just need to be more kind and thoughtful people in the world who think about others period. I look at you guys and see role models who are simply cute and amazing human beings who care about each other and do cool things for each other, and the lego thing was a really cute and thoughtful human thing to do that served as a reminder of the ways that one can be creative and create more inclusive spaces. And that is the reality of our world, that disabilities mean that we have to try and make the world that isn’t inclusive a little more inclusive, and what is super cool about you and Ollie is that as humans, you work super well together as a team, which is fun to see, but you both are also super creative about making everything accessible, no matter what it is. And maybe because I live the blind life style as well, I’ve always seen that thats more about you guys than the fact that what you do is because of the blindness factor, if that makes sense. I am huge on the education aspect of certain ways of life, and for people who have never thought about living life like that, its a way of being “inspired” but not out of pity, and sometimes, it just takes that extra bit of ingenuity to figure out how to do something together, which is just a lovely human connection story at that point. But I feel you on the feeling icky over it being a pity story, and it is so easy to get to that point or be perceived like that in our world. You’re both slaying though, and I get to steal ideas from both of your creative brains, so…
