Ear drops, ear devices from the doctor, water, etc did nothing but give me wet blocked ears, difficulty hearing, and infections. I bought an otoscope for less than $25. On my computer monitor, I can see inside my own ears all the way to the tympanic membrane now. There's zero wax impaction or problems from using cotton swabs to carefully dry out and clean my ear canals. It is prudent to check from time to time, to make sure you're not doing more harm than good. But for some people with small canals or canals that don't want to let go of moisture, swabs really are a godsend.
Hey, I just had my first impacted ear and I'm in my 60's! It took some doing but I did get the wax out with drops and flushing with warm water. Make it a GREAT day everyone!
I learned from a Doctor 40 years ago that if your ears are plugged with wax , tilt your head on the side , cover your eyes , add a little peroxide in your ear , wait 5 minutes and then flush it out with warm water and a small bulb type syringe . I usually warm the Peroxide for 5 or 6 seconds in a microwave before putting in my ear ..It seems to work better .
My mother always said if you had a bad ear ache that putting a teaspoon of your own pee warmed up would get rid of it. I don't have ear issues like she had and she Said when its hurting really bad you'll try anything once & I guess that's how she ended up trying it, with positive results however I saw her battle ear issues for over a decade and never once peed in her ear lol
Yup hydroxide peroxide is d only solution to remove that soap suds drying in ur ears and ear wax. It also kills itchiness n smells in d ear. Just put 2-3 drops of peroxide mixed with water stay till the fritz stops then remove it by draining them clean with Qtips to get the softened dirt. Trust me this is d safest and healthier way to clean ur ears
In SEA, we use a small object resembling micro soup spoon. Put it inside the ear & "scrap" the sides of the ear tunnel & pull the wax/dirt out. Ladies used to use a hairpin. It worked. All these were used before Q-tips appeared on the market. Iam still using the old fashioned way.
My mom used a hairpin when I was younger. I thought it was gross and only knew of q-tips and thought that was a normal ear cleaning method. I guess my mom was right on this one.
Using warm water & soap when in the shower always feels cleaner than just a qtip. I don't use a qtip to get wax out I use it to dry any extra water That's in there that feels like it's pouring out, or it'll start a tickle that drives me insane. My mother got a qtip stuck in her ear after years of her telling me never sick anything smaller than my elbow in it. I said but my elbow won't fit in my ear. She'd look at me & say exactly. She had ear problems for years & never went to the doctor until she got that qtip stuck. She saw him once after years & years of on again off again ear drainage. He told her she had a yeast infection (makes sense she'd put sum liquid in her ear then a cotton ball to keep it there making me environment even wetter and darker which they love). He squirted what looked like baby powder in her ear, told her to get a blow-dryer w a cool air setting & let it gently blow in there for so long each day and my mother's decade or longer battle with her ear problems were all gone.
I always used this method while showering for myself. But I was wondering, would it be safe to do the same with children? I've got a 6 years old boy and almost a 2 years old baby.
I never put a Qtip in my ears . I do have tinnitus from a medication I was on..I hope it goes away its soooo annoying 🙄Great info Doc ! 👍 God Bless you always ✝️🙏
Thank you I have really good hearing I inherited it from my grandpa and like I can hear peoples conversations from like 10 m away like I can hear it so well it’s like they’re literally right next to me and I’ve been having trouble with my ears as in can’t hear out of one ear and this is exactly why thank you
I personally don’t put the 1-tip in my ears, I let the end meet just where the entrance of the ear is without it digging in so that it has the sensation without it making any damage
Your doctor (or you doctor’s nurse) can get the wax out of your ears. It’s not a pleasant experience, but neither is not being able to hear. I don’t know how much it costs; Medicare paid +/-$70 (today’s charges may vary).
Technique! Wet the tip in your mouth, gently push in without engaging ear canal, place against wall of ear while pulling out in a spiral motion. This technique demonstrably pulls wax out without pushing in! It's about HOW you do it
Im trying to convince my dad to stop putting these in his ear, and he complains about it itching. My ear canals dont usually itch, figure it might have something to do with the fact that he doesnt have wax to protect his ear from debris with.
I have tried the water and it get stuck in my ear 😩 and it take about a day or two to come out 🤢 my mom use to put Vick on a cotton ball and leave it in our ear for the night and it would feel good. 🤷🏻♀️
That’s because you have too much ear wax! Water used to get trapped in my ears as well, but *3% hydrogen peroxide* works great! For stubborn wax, use *warm olive oil* to help soften the wax! Do this regularly and you won’t have that issue anymore! 😊
Yeah beware.. Q tip, had 1-2 tips stuck in my ear for weeks once, I didnt know lol until I went to doctors! Felt deaf no wonder. He took it all out and it hurt too. Went deep

Wow!! I had no idea these sold for so little! Thanks!
I had an earache last week and used oregano oil. It went away within an hour. Amazing.
That’s exactly how my ENT told me to clean my ears! Soap & water.
I’ve known this to be beneficial for 20 years. And yet, I still q-tip my ears! Definitely, going to use warm soapy water method.
it dont work
You are on time! I have felt like something is in my ear!
Thank you, very much!❤️

Thank you and God Bless you Dr. Mandell.....
So true wow. Ringing, blood, loss of hearing on my left ear past 2 months. Will stop using the qtip and pray for healing
I hope all goes well for you my friend.

Please what are your takes on AirPods? Do they affect the ears in any way (push wax deeper etc).

It also fights infection. It seems to work against such things as colds, too, which get into the ears.
Thanks bro this will help

me too
You helped me. I am afraid of anything going in to my ears.
Slightly warmed up peroxide, a little diluted, poured in and left in to bubble for a few minutes, then drained out. Do it again, if some remains.
Your ears need the wax. So doing what you stated is not healthy. Your body naturally cleans your ears when it needs to.
This is helpful! Thanks!😀
Or few drops of oil in ear put cotton wool and leave it on for a while it will clean out

What kind of soap is safest, given our ph sensivity? Dr. Bronner's, maybe?
My earwax is always has water in so it melted 😂❤ but ty doc!😊
I watch audiologist cleaning ear wax. Love it

What could be done to take away the itch?
Guilty as charged. I know it's wrong, but it feels so darn good when you have itchy ears. Lol
I know right? I feel like I'm in ear heaven having an eargasm. 🙈😂
My Dad taught me this years ago..
I use soap and water and then tilt my head to clean the soap out
my family:We do not care. *proceeds to still use cotton buds*
Relatable
A hairdryer is also a good solution.
Thank U

Some people have wet ear wax and don't have chunky ear wax to push back though.
Right 👍
I personally use a small drill bit..
I wish school taught me this now i am in the ER
Do you put shampoo or bar soap?
Thank you from noisy NYC 😊😂
My Dr forbids me to use q-tips... I can't hardly get any wax 😩 out of my ears..my left ear has tinnitus...

Try putting urine in your ear for tinnitus.
I still use a q-tip, but I put rubbing alcohol on it to "melt" the wax, I'm not.sure if it works, but it is what I dp
Dip buds into Coconut oil and clean smoothly
People:with that im still gonna use tha-
What if the water and soap get suck in your ear like in the pool ?
weird because i literally just used a q tip...glad to know how to use it properly👍🏻

I damage my ear with Qtip , after antibiotics now I have ring in my ears 😤 , can clean my ear with peroxide?
Hey doc, Is this ok for a 10 year old kid? Thx again
Take a bobby pin wet with water and use the circular part at the end to gently pull wax out of your ear.
when i first heard of it, i thought using a qtip smaller than your ear canal would work since i would be using it like a spoon
What about hydrogen peroxide?
*3% hydrogen peroxide* works great! For stubborn wax, use *warm olive oil* to help soften the wax!
Cold water in ear or hot water?
Homeopathic mullein ear drops !!! You will be amazed

One time I used them and they stabbed my ear and I had to go to the docter
I use the end of a spoon.
Castile oil
but what im worried about is putting soap and water on your ear really not dangerous?
please i need to know
Oh my God it’s so pleasurable 🤤
My dad used a bobby pin
Ear canals are so itchy have to use with a bit of oil

I go to a gas station and pump regular unleaded gasoline in my ear it works every time 🙌 🎉
guys. this is not a joke. I was once a doctor and I know all about this.
Uses qtip because water stays in my ear and causes a swimmers ear.

can't water get stuck in your ear? swimmer's ear?

Peroxide ❤
I usedvone the other day hurt my ear then got a infection in it
So DONT use them in your ears guys
Ear infections hurt alot and you will cry from the pain
actually it feels horrible and unnatural for me and so i never use them and have rarely ever used them .
Ah ok so that explained those high pitch ringing sounds i hear sometimes
I use hydrogen peroxide and clean it out using a cotton swab
Yes but whenever you get waters in my ears it bugs me so much and sometimes doesn't seem to want to come out?
same..there's even ear drops to dry out water stuck in your ears.
Peroxide, especially slightly warmed, seems to come out fine. It works. I dilute it some.

Why do old ears itch so much?
What if I take cold showers
The smallest thing you should put in your ears is your elbow.
I’m scared now I was just using skme
What if I already have pain and the headaches? Am I gonna die? And I’m saying it in a funny way but I’m actually scared now
It's what they say but how many millions of people clean with qtips everyday and nothing happens
Exactly this is what I been doing for the last 30 years or so and I been good until now

Does this work with cold showers?
Probably not G
