So lawyer here and I’m genuinely confused by the Mother’s behavior. Her and her family should understand how contracts work and that Miranda seems to have misappropriated funds. Allegedly. Also, attorneys would usually be the most meticulous at looking at itemized receipts and contractual terms. Just weird.

Mom seems like a hinky lawyer who is using her position to intimidate & bully the vendors. Calling herself “prominent” is a big 🚩. Undoubtedly the family realizes that it’s much easier to get money from the ethical businesses than from the criminal scammer. Hard to feel any sympathy for the family.

It’s giving me “The coordinator ‘Miranda’ didn’t actually charge them that much and this is just an elaborate way to use a scapegoat method done by the whole family to scam/steal money from the baker”
But I could be misplaced in that judgement or could be forgetting details that would make that not a possibility?

Theory: The coordinator is a family acquaintance/friend/daughter of business partner (pick any vague family relationship). There is NO CONTRACT between the family and this coordinator. That money is in the wind and now they are trying to bully vendors to pay them so they can recoup something for this scam. As "Lawyers" they think that they can scare these independent business owners into compliance. SMH.

There's actually good reason to have an individual on hand, who is food service safety certified, to serve food to dozens, or even hundreds of people. When a baker has a big cake, like a wedding cake, they generally don't just toss it at the bride and haul ass. Technically speaking, they do have a contract with the vendor. The vendor is legally a subcontractor, and the planner is the primary contract holder. The vendor is still responsible to provide the agreed upon product, and is still legally under contract, but the planner is liable for any failure on the part of the vendor. If the client has an issue with the vendor, they should be pursuing the planner. The planner is then responsible for pursuing the vendor for breech of contract.

Independent consultants, at least in my own experience, are a scam and not to be taken lightly. The story is always very similar. The wedding group will talk about how they "Already have a consultant." At some point in the conversation, they will mention that it's either a recommendation or a friend of the family. It eventually ends in a realization that their "Consultant" and "Friend of the family" is charging them thousands for the simple task of calling businesses and having them do the job for them at a significantly lower cost, and then pocketing the difference. Imagine paying someone 3500 dollars to make a few phone calls.

My mom did last minute dress alterations all the time in the industry and she never let them get away with payment plans or stiffing her money. People were sometimes put off but there’s two things you can complain about or fail to pay after the fact for supposed little consequence. The only reason wedding photographers don’t get shafted is because they know they can keep their product hostage lmao.

I literally just got home from working at a wedding. I've been doing it part-time for a couple of years now, and WOW, what the FCK.
When people pay that much money for a wedding, there's a very high standard of expectations. And one of those expectations on the RARE occasion that someone is generous enough to tip at all - let alone that much for ALL vendors - then a big part of the point is to give the people who are working the wedding an extra hitch in their giddyup, to be just *that* much more on point when everything is happening.
And this wedding coordinator *stole* that from them. Not just the money, but that little extra something to make the day what they wanted it to be. I don't even like rich people lol, but I can't imagine stooping so low. I always treat each wedding like it's the most special day in the couple's life. Even if people are rude or rushed or whatever. It's just...how that stuff is supposed to work...?

The only reason to divide it that way is if she was trying to hide extra fees on top of her normal one and just hoped the family would never ask for receipts/itemized lists or talk to the venders. Maybe because of the way she wrote up the invoices to the family they only have proof that the money was paid the venders rather than the planner so that's why they feel the need to go after the venders? That or the family is close with her/in on the scam somehow. It doesn't seem like the planner disappeared with the money or anything since the mother mentions a conversation with her.

Thank you for sharing this story callum.. not only is it completely insane, but its pretty infuriating and I hope this story spreads enough that this family backs off Melina and the heat turns on "Miranda" bc that's just fucked up.
Charging outrageous coordinator fees is one thing.. but stealing tips and fucking PRETENDING TO BE THE BRIDE TO VENDORS INCLUDING ACCEPTING GIFTS FOR YOU AND YOUR OWN PARTNER I truly just can't even believe that. That is the craziest shit I've heard in a while.

I think either they thought the cake vendor was working with Miranda to scam them or the family can’t find Miranda and trying to find her by harassing all the vendors.
I can’t believe someone would be that stupid
