Just to address a few comments about the pictures on bridal gift - i say cakes throughout this video thinking the bridal gift were little cupcakes, turns out they were cookies instead and i remembered incorrectly. Either way, my opinion is still the same regardless if they were cakes or cookies 😂 i think me saying cakes is confusing and makes it seem like im talking about the actual wedding cake, my bad!

Markie, I feel like you'd be shocked to know just how much bullshit actually goes on in the wedding industry!🤣😭 I can 100% believe this story because I've actually met with wedding planners who have done almost the exact same thing. Unfortunately, common sense isn't so common anymore, and a lot of people just don't have their heads screwed on straight. Wedding drama can be some of the worst drama.

I feel like "Miranda" just got in way over her head in planning her first professional wedding. But at least, from every indication in these videos, she seems to have done a satisfactory job for the married couple. She made a couple of awkward blunders, but I think she learned some valuable lessons.
On the other hand, the mother-in-law is a crazy awful liar who is trying to scam $500 out of the cake baker by impersonating a lawyer. What a total waste of a partially functional brain.

    • @otiphanyv
      @otiphanyv Před 2 měsíci +7

@@connieguidry6656I thought that the cookie gifts might have been more of a bonus, i.e. - The baker offers this free cookie with the sentimental design as a gesture of thanks and gratitude for being chosen to bake for this wedding. The bride would have known about it had she met with the baker originally, but since she didn’t, the coordinator “stole” the cookie for herself by putting her personal picture on it.
I think that’s where the “inexperienced” comment comes from. The planner was not saying she didn’t know that the cookie wasn’t meant for her. She was saying that she thought a freebie cookie wasn’t a big deal, and that she could take it and no one would really care.
Unethical and very lame, but if she had trained under a planner before starting her own business and saw someone keep samples or be given a freebie, she might not have understood the context and thought that sometimes people skim off the top a bit. At least, that’s what I think she’s trying to imply regarding her “inexperience.”

Take MIL to small claims court. She fraudulently represented herself as the MOB and tried to fraudulently get money from vendors. That's theft. @megasora4 Před 2 měsíci +7

oh this would be a slam dunk for defamation assuming the MIL contacted more then just the baker with this scheme. throwing the coordinator under the bus by saying that she up charged them a ton would affect that persons business at any of the places she used for the wedding and since all the actual contracts show the opposite of what the MIL said, it shows malicious intent from the MIL side.
the only one i see being a problem is the "stole 500$ tip from every vendor" claim, depending on where this would be, burden of proof would be on the coordinator and since the tip is off the record..... its not easy to prove that the MIL is lying about it.

Never attribute to malice what you can attribute to ignorance. The coordinator panicked because she was stuck in the fiction that she was the bride. Cake and flowers are the only two vendors with whom you can actually conceal the identity of the bride- catering and music are physically at the wedding and dress hair and makeup are physically on the bride. Also as to the question of what the MIL's thought process was? Presumably she thought that if she convinced Malina that she was a lawyer specialising in this field, Malina would then be scared into submission and boom, an instant "donation" of $500 in the MIL's account courtesy of someone desperate to avoid legal action. Think the whole Jeanette Braun situation - the thought process is largely the same: "if I seem intimidating enough, they'll all just shut up and do what they're told".

Like, maybe she thought theyd insist on confirmation from the bride herself or something, and she thought she was being smart and getting around that
Then the baker needs a picture and she's like "oh no, if I give them a picture of the real bride and groom, my ruse will be found out!" And just decided to say there must have been a mistake with the file. Hey! Maybe thats why she disappeared, she didn't want to be there when they saw them

The thing is you have to find someone who is willing to mentor you when you’re going to go on and become their competition. The best option for getting experience is finding a non-solo coordinator whose company you can work up through or a venue that has in-house coordinators (I worked as a venue coordinator for years before branching out to exhibitions and events). It depends on your area though whether those options are available.

As an event coordinator with more than a decade of experience, I do not believe the coordinator was that confused. In order to take a client, you have to advertise your services, set prices, and have some general knowledge of wedding and event planning. Coordinators also do not foot the bills if they're just now taking their first client. A wedding firm may do that, but independent coordinators are invoiced by vendors and pass that on to the clients. I believe the mother in law part of the story because I have had some WILD mothers in law at my events. But the coordinator part is just really throwing me off. She's either not going to succeed in this field because she has no critical thinking skills or she's lying about what actually happened. 🤔

Furthermore, any reasonable thinking person would not say they were the bride when they were if fact a coordinator, even if you were just a friend helping you wouldnt pretend to be the bride. Not for nothing but coordinators often get discounts or other incentives with vendors they team with especially as you use them more but I digress its makes zero sense to say you're the bride because how weird would it look if a vendor called to ask an important question to who is the "bride" and then you got to say um let me call you back bc I don't know the answer....strange. Also why oh why would this fake bride use her own bridal portrait with her husband....baffled is what I'm left being, is this "coordinator" playing naive/ignorant(no knowledge) or is she truly lacking the cognitive thinking ability or have a low common (or otherwise) sense threshold

A lot of comments from people in this industry or who know people in it seem to think it’s very plausible.
Of course you could be right, the inexperienced planner putting her photo on the cookies makes zero sense unless she meant it as a bonus gift to the bride and her guests, kind of a weird but well-intended thank you for their business. If she paid for those it would make sense, but it’s weird and a terrible idea. Very unprofessional even for an inexperienced planner.

Couple of things I find sketchy:
    1) No matter how new you are to the industry (I work events), it's just basic common sense, you're the planner *YOUR* face should never be on anything, let alone the cake. Was the bride not involved at all in choosing her cake? From flavors to size, to colors, to design to who bakes the d@mn thing, the bride *should* have had the most input.
    2) As the planner coordinator, you're responsible for everything on site making sure everything and everyone is where they should be and knows what is expected of them. You're damage control. You either prevent something from going wrong or you fix it. You *DON"T* leave until it's over. We've got an emergency kit where we carry everything from sewing kits, to medicine, to bandaids, stain remover, duct tape and a whole other bunch of stuff just in case because you never know what you'll need in an event and specially weddings. And I would have thought that as this couple is her very first client, the planner would have been more meticulous about everything to make sure nothing goes wrong because their review and possible referrals could make or break her business.
    3) As for the bride, how the heck did she find this planner? If she's having a big, grand wedding then I would have thought she'd go for a more experienced person with the experience and portfolio to back her up. The planner filling out all the contracts as if she were the bride could possibly be seen as fraud. The baker definitely didn't know that the person she was talking and the *actual* client was actually someone else. The bride and groom have grounds to file a civil suit against the planner.
    4) Yeah the mother-in-law was a real piece of work (if true.)

I’ve had some absolutely insane situations happen working in optical offices, psychiatric offices, and definitely when I was in retail, so I’ll give Malina the benefit of the doubt.

Yeh to reiterate a few of the comments, the images of them was for the wedding gift not the cake itself so theres a little confusion there

I knew something was up with the “MOB”/MOG. It was blatantly obvious to me that she wasn’t a lawyer. I feel so bad for everyone involved but especially the bride and groom. Imagine being tied to that crazy ass woman for life. Oof.

At first I thought, ok MIL is claiming to be the brides mother because brides mother passed away and she is the only mother bride has now, MIL treats and sees bride as her own (as it should be). How sweet...and then the story continued 🤦‍♀

I don’t have any other social media so I appreciate all the videos you post. Keeps me in the loop. 💜💜
If this is how the mother in law is about the wedding, I’m guessing she is gonna be a meddling mom in the couple’s relationship…I’m sure she already is. Plus, I hate it when people say “I’m a lawyer” or “I have family that are lawyers” to try to get one over on someone, scare them, etc.

As someone who’s mom is a Wedding DJ & I have personally DJ’d weddings that she couldn’t attend. You would be surprised what weddings bring out of people. I am not surprised by this at all. I once had a man yell at me because I “didn’t count right.” Yet I did exactly what the mother of the groom asked me to do. It didn’t help that this was at a very close friend of mines wedding so his parents are like my second family and they were not very happy with what happened.

Ha ha! I just watched the first video on this and left a comment before catching up...I said I believed that the "mom" was pretending to have been scammed in order to scam money off the vendors...and that seems spot on now!

This sounds exactly like something my step-grandmother would have done just to get attention and to get money out of it. My step-grandmother was a notorious lier and manipulator.

I totally believe this. I've heard some crazy mother in law stories. This actually seems tame compared to some in the just no mil subreddit.
