They can sue but it's so easy to get out of judgements and you might end up spending more on the lawyer than you'd even get back. Personally, I'm petty so if I thought I'd win, I don't care of 100% of my lost money goes to a lawyer. At least you don't still have it
MARKIE! Thank you for making a video on this! I was a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding at Circle B this past September, and while it was a beautiful wedding, the management there was awful. Right before my friend was about to walk down the aisle, we were informed that the sewage pipes clogged and sewage had overflowed from the main floor bathroom toilets. Thankfully we couldn’t smell anything during the reception, but NONE of the bathrooms in the entire venue were in able to be used for the entire day/night. They ended up ordering 2 porta potties for 250+ guests, and they put them in front of a giant mud pile (it was pouring rain that night). Everyone’s dresses and shoes were ruined and I felt awful that the bride and groom had to use porta potties on their special day. The venue promised the bride and groom a partial refund, but they didn’t even get one!!! You can’t make this stuff up. I’m honestly not surprised the venue decided to permanently close so abruptly and rip everyone off.
Oh my gosh, that’s horrid!! How did your friend/the bride handle it? I know some brides would be understandably freaking out and devastated and others who by that point have done so much planning and dealt with so much stress that they just roll with it and go numb basically 🤣
If they were willing to kill 115 trees without even batting an eye then they for sure never were good people and would have never cared for those clients...
Especially since in most states in the United States allow for collecting treble damages (three times the cost of the damage) and since the law usually says the damages are based on the cost to return the land back to the condition prior to the person causing damage. If the trees are like 30-60+ years old trees can you imagine the costs? Don't cut down other peoples trees!
@@rb0090my old neighbors cut down the hedge row that was on my side while we were in vacation and then put the house up for sale and moved out. I was pissed! They had been between the houses for 50yrs or more. When they ripped it out it took the dirt out from under our driveway! Still in litigation bc she moved to a different state and keeps asking for more time and not showing up. Soon the court will decide without her. We just want money to fix it. Our driveway is screwed. Washing out our yard and causing our basement to flood!
@@maryjane4432 that is truly a rough situation, I think I can speak for the bulk of us here in saying we hope you're able to recover and heal your life as quickly as possible.
@@maryjane4432I may never find you again for an update to this but I hope beyond hope that they get tired of her bs and drop the hammer on her from atop the empire state building. Was she a terrible neighbor? Why would they do that? Dealing with a neighbor now who foolishly doesn't realize how lenient we were with our old neighbors, he built his fench right on the property line not a foot from it and encroached a bit. She's been acting really spiteful lately blaming use for things that we had no involvement in and blasting very inappropriate music while she works in the yard. So a surveyor id about to be hired to wreck her day.
Closing immediately without meeting existing obligations usually means someone has absconded with the money, so the whole thing about them being sued and owing a crap ton of money kind of makes sense with their crappy behavior.
If the company was dissolved 2 months ago? These folks knew last year they were in trouble. Probably more like the beginning of last year. They should have stopped taking bookings. They did a smash and grab-booked brides and ran away with the money.
Oooh, tree law, that explains everything. Yeah, they probably found out from their lawyer how expensive things would be when they lost, took a bunch of reservations to get some money, and just ran. If you can prove that someone cut down your tree without permission, you can sue to get not only the cost to replace the same size and type of tree, which on it's own is super expensive for just one tree, but also to make it a deterrent so people don't just do this anyway, you get treble damages for each tree. 115 trees? These guys aren't just broke, they've dug themselves a pit their grandchildren can't crawl out of.
Tree law is like the irs. You don’t usually think about them (or don’t even know tree law exists) until they come knocking at your door because you have messed up bad. Both are financial forces that should not be messed with if you value your bank status. The price is usually worth more than your damn soul.
I live in this area and numerous wedding venues are now offering their venues to these couples for free !!!!! There’s also loads of people in all the communities of these venues that are offering to volunteer their time to help support these weddings. Hopefully everyone gets the chance to have a venue they love!
If I was one of the couples, this would honestly make the day even more special. To have a community jump in to help strangers have a special day is just so nice. While it started out with a bad situation, maybe it will end up being an even better event for some of them.
If anyone paid a deposit by credit card, they should file a dispute with their credit card company for goods and services not received. The chargeback should go through as they cannot prove a wedding was done.
Circle B is just begging for another lawsuit with this behaviour. with proper contracts signed you can't just go and shut everything down with no communications. saying "no one will be available to take calls or messages" is so ridiculous and nonsensical, unless everyone on your staff has passed away at the same time there needs to be a person who can issue the refunds. just sounds to me like theyre trying to take the money they've got from the 19 couples to pay for the lawsuit.
THIS! The “nobody will be available“ to take calls shows just how little they care, and what their true intentions are! Insane! The only thing similar to this was a large spa/salon in a major city that shit down, not even the employees knew, and the company had sold thousands in gift cards only a month or so prior…never found out what happened, but they also tried to go the same route!
If they destroyed 115 trees AND the land around it they are damn lucky to get off with just $100k fine. I am guessing that they didn't let people know so they knew whether or not they needed to steal these people's money in order to pay the fines for their other illegal activities.
@@Jupiter_Spy I know that where I am from fruit-bearing trees are about that if they are destroyed without owner consent. I know this because people moved in next door and tried to cut down my fig tree that is several feet into the property because they are worried their dog that they let run loose will eat the figs and get sick. I called the cops and they informed them of that and the leash laws in the area. Love new neighbors /s.
If a company goes bankrupt without offering refunds, the people have to get in line as a debtor. They will probably be out their money unless they have wedding insurance
Um yes, if you are using a service you should always ask if they are bonded or have insurance... That way you don't run into this exact situation. My sister and mother both made sure of this before renting a venue actually. I'm Canadian so maybe it's not normal in the US? But again, most services should have insurance or you should walk away
@KhaosChilde97 yup and it sucks. I recently bought concert tickets and felt like I had to get the insurance provided in order to get my money back just in case something happen beforehand.
What maddens me the most with these businesses…..they continue to keep gathering money via deposits when they know full well they cannot/will not supply the services. If they are in financial trouble, this goes on for months prior to closing. So they are essentially doing a last minute money grab to further their gains on the backs of the patrons who will be devastated by their losses.
Yeah, if they were collecting money when they knew they weren't going to be open, they stole from those people, and they will get in trouble. Fraud is criminal.
@@helixxia9320 Also, of the company is no longer solvent financially and has no money, there'd be no point suing because you're never going to actually receive any money back from the company - you can't take blood from a stone. And they had the venue registered as a limited liability company - which means that the liability legally doesn't extend as far as the scumbag owners (even though they're the ones doing this) so you can't sue them personally - works the same as a "Ltd." Company in the UK or Ireland.
That's funny. Just two days ago I was about to click on his new video and I heard his voice in my head, "Right, so today..." and I just knew he'd say it as always and he did and I giggled so hard. Funny how we get attached to these quirky intros! 💜🤭
I'm in Metro MN (near this) and the news stations here have been interviewing all the brides and banging on the owners of Circle B's door (their home) lol. Btw the owners own another wedding venue AND they're already part of a lawsuit (from before they closed). If you want to learn about all this the local news is Kare11 , KSTP , WCCO , Fox 9 (Minnesota)
@@brookelynnwu8016 I haven't heard that about this one but I honestly haven't kept up with all the news so idk. A lot of stuff has done the "open yesterday/closed today" in the twin cities area so that might be anywhere haha (and not haha)
Our venue went bankrupt three weeks before our wedding date. I live in Germany, but our wedding was in the US. We had to find a venue last minute (thankfully, a hotel down the block had a cancellation and could help). I thankfully had a wedding planner to help figure everything out, but the amount of stress I was under was so immense. Everything, in the end, worked out in the best possible way. However, I absolutely feel for these brides. It's so tough.
Markie, it's not just the wedding venue cost that they'd be out if they changed the date; their wedding coordinator, photographer, caterer, bar, DJ, all of those are costs that also take deposits to secure spots. They won't just be out the cost of their venue if they try to move the date...they'd be out everything and they wouldn't have any availability to get back the other deposits either.
There's a place in the next town over from me that did that- without informing ANYONE. Other venues even reached out to the couples and completely covered their wedding expenses at their venues. This was almost 10 years ago, and people are still fighting the shady ass owner for their money. He's lost a ton of cases, and he tried to go on the run. One of my sister's friends was supposed to get married 2 days after they closed
How dare they cut down someone elses trees? The audacity is out of this world. What is it like their heads?? Is it fun not having common sense? Or decency for that matter? I feel madder about that than I do the scamming; most if not all of these people will recover, but depending on the tree it takes decades to reach full growth. 115 trees is a whole ecosystem! Birds, animals, insects, drainage, other plants and fungus. All gone! Disgusting. If I were those landowners I'd never forgive them
if these couples paid with a credit card, maybe they can dispute the charge since they won’t be rendering services? hopefully they get their money back, i can’t imagine how stressful it is when everything’s been planned and now the place you’re supposed to get married in fell through.
From the sound of it, they don't have any money to refund, they probably used it to pay for lawyers etc. and they might even have a lien on their property
You for sure said "topography" correctly, good job! Also, oh boy, cutting down a whole forest doesn't really jive with the whole "dream wedding" aesthetic that many have. And what shit neighbors. I think they're lucky the neighbors weren't the type to escalate.
Tree Law! If they were only out 100K, they got off easy. Depending on the tree, it can be 50K per tree. So, they will file bankruptcy & they won’t have to pay the people in the tree lawsuit or any of the wedding couples. No one will get their money back & the people who screwed everyone over can open the same type of business under a different name in a couple years & no one will be able to do a thing about it.
I remember hearing about this from the other land owner's side. The trees were cut down to improve the view of circle b and ya it's been known the circle b people would have to pay for the tree restoration since 2022
How sad for these people. I can't even fathom spending that much money on something and basically having my money stolen. That is devastating. That is literally a life changing amount of money for someone like me.
They definitely booked all those couples knowing they were closing. So that way they could delete all their social media, ghost everyone, and steal those people’s money.
From what I’ve heard, violating Tree Law is financially ruinous lol; and people NEVER think it’s going to be that serious until they fuck around and find out
Tree law can hold a person accountable for the costs it would take to replace every killed tree with a tree of the same species of the same age and size which when you get to mature trees adds up very fast. Just buying a mature tree is expensive let alone paying to have it professionally replanted, and under tree law they have to do that for every single tree they destroyed to be replaced.
Circle B is near where I am! i hadn't seen this locally so I think it's hilarious I first hear of this from a British man XD. This is insane but minnesota hospitality is real so I hope everything gets sorted 😢
If Reddit has taught me anything is that you don’t fuck with tree law. You can make a stupid amount of money if a petty neighbor/person cuts down or damages your trees without your consent.
So a very little known area of legal specialty is tree law. Penalties for damaging old trees can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars due to how long it takes to grow the trees and the number of trees that could be transplanted to replace them.
I saw some tiktoks years ago with a woman walking around devestated that her trees were destroyed by the people who bought land next to her. I wonder if this is the same thing 🤔 It also taught me that tree law is a thing and its expensiiiiive to mess with people's trees.
This is a clip I read from CBS News’ website… “The owners run another barn event space in Cottage Grove called the Historic John Furber Farm. It's also for sale while continuing to accept bookings.” This may be another way for the couples to get their money back.
I wouldn’t trust that. If it’s currently for sale “but they’re still accepting bookings” who’s to say they won’t pull the rug again when they see fit? The owners owe A LOT of money for the tree incident. They’ll likely just take deposits again towards that and not follow through. I believe that’s what they were doing in this situation.
My hair/makeup artist dropped out 2 weeks before my wedding and that made me SUPER stressed. I couldn't imagine my whole venue just poof, gone. I feel for her. Edit: it sounds like the venue had trial on the destruction of property case and the judge or jury found them liable and they have a judgment of a substantial amount of money. That being said, bankruptcy doesn't get rid of a court judgment so if they do file, it would be to discharge other debts they may have. Personally, the couples should file suits, or a class action if they meet the criterium, so they can get a judgment before the venue potentially does file bankruptcy.
Oof. That venue didn't just piss off a bunch of brides, they ran afoul of tree law. Only being asked for 100k for the trees is actually getting off easy for some of the damages I've seen people have to pay. Hopefully the couples will be able to either sue for the money back, or can do a charge back/file a complaint with their banks.
I'm pretty sure this has enough victims for a class action lawsuit, and the timelines are pretty strong evidence... I'd bet there's an attorney who will take this on contingency.
A venue did this in my hometown too, just closed down out of nowhere after taking a bunch of deposits. A wedding dress boutique also closed holding a bunch of peoples dresses hostage. Honestly I’m not sure if there was resolution or what it was in either case. The wedding industry is wild and full of a lot of drama and shady characters. On the flip, a family friend had her venue burn down the day of her wedding, her parents decorated in the morning, left, and as they were returning and guests were arriving saw the smoke. Them and the other couple getting married there that day both had places pull through absolutely last minute for them! My parents were at theirs and the venue a bridesmaid had been married at opened up one of their rooms, called in staff and managed to cater the whole thing for them in barely a couple of hours and my parents said if you didn’t know that wasn’t the original plan you’d never tell. I really hope they manage to have a good day and someone is able to help them out, I can’t imagine the stress💜
Man! The biggest drama in the wedding of my best friend (who's gay) was a family fight over him not wanting to invite the homophobic boyfriend of his sister to the wedding...lol thats peanuts in comparison to what ever is going on here 👀
@@dismurrart6648 yeah he did stay strong! His sister and parents weren't happy tho. I really don't know why his sister and parents were sooo insistent on inviting the guy...he made it clear that he wouldn't like to come!
The reason they have waitied 2 month to tell people is so gross. Imo it was probably so they could milk as much money out of the location as quickly as possible then just leave everyone without answers.. They are disgusting for that and i truly hope they get held accountable by the law in some capacity. Imagine being so greedy and selfish you just ruin peoples wedding and wont even give them as much as a response
Also another big issue is the vendors. What if the wedding is going to get moved to a different month and the cake is ready? They can't possibly freeze a cake that long can they?! Or for food services. They most likely paid for a deposit. What if they can't move the date and keep the deposit due to lost time or they can't carry the food to the new location due to accessibility issues or the drive is so far there's no chance the food would've gotten there safe?
That’s what I thought of. This couple was only two weeks away. Certainly there are some vendors they can’t go back on at this point. It’s a horrific situation
This is heart breaking. I've been trying to wedding plan for like a full year, but we're still stuck on finding a venue. Venues are so expensive!! You can find some cheap venues, but you'll be put in a small room with no windows. We've seen venues in downtown Dallas, where you have to pay an extra $300 just to get the parking lot, otherwise everyone has to figure parking out themselves! If you've never been to a major downtown city, just know you would literally be walking about a mile to and from your car without a parking lot available. We've seen great venues that cost literally 17 thousand dollars, which is way out of budget. When you DO finally find a venue you can afford and that looks nice, THEN you have to consider if it's what the bride and groom BOTH want/ need, especially since we have different religions and are trying to find a fair middle ground. Trying to run through this ENTIRE check list, after you've already spent your full budget, and are likely already fully drained from the previous planning, sounds genuinely awful. Take these guys back to court, all these couples deserve their money back.
“Circle B” sounds like a gas station! 😂 I own a wedding venue in Kentucky. She can throw her wedding there with no fees from us!! I reached out to Katelyn. She seemed wayyyy more upset than the second couple. I dont know about you, but if I just found out that I lost almost $10k, I would NOT be able go on a “shopping therapy” session at Target lol.
An article said that the owners cut down all those trees just days after buying the property. Did they think the trees were on their property?! And they knew two months before letting customers know about the venue closing?! So they knowingly stole money then.
I eloped before having a wedding. Can't stress enough how much stress this removed from the big day. Everything can go wrong, but we will have that small important day in our pocket.
I am a wedding photographer and have seen several people affected by this. Unfortunately several venues across the US have done this in the past year too. Most likely they will have to refund these couples. I'm guessing they were hoping these couples wouldn't fight back.
When you think about starting a business you go “i’m a person, my business is a business, i’m not my business, i should have some form of limitation to liable i am for the failures of my business” but frankly, THIS is the result of an LLC. This company hasn’t really broken any laws and the owners aren’t responsible… because we allow LLCs we allow PEOPLE to take people’s money and then blame a legal entitiy or LLC when the PEOPLE don’t deliver of the promises and contracts made on behalf of the LLC.
I live in their area, and at least one venue has offered to help all families involved. They are offering 75% off of services for those with a “near” date…and a large discount for others.
Not as stressful but my hotel I had rooms blocked for for our wedding guests randomly closed down and didn't tell us at all. Luckily, they didn't take a fee to block the rooms our guests were to be in but still, it was so bizarre.
Tree law is insane! Absolutely insane. They need to pay the 50,000 now. If you lose in court you have to pay a lot more. Almost 50k a tree. You have to pay to get the exact same tree to be planted in the exact same spot. And that is very expensive to find a matching tree then to transport it and implant it.
wedding industry insider here (UK venue but part of the American venue industry groups) it really is worse than originally thought. The owners allegedly have form having done this before, they are still taking bookings for another venue they own (with discounts for those paying in full) despite the two venues being for sale. Appalling behaviour. On the positive I can see local venues rallying to offer the affected couples an alternative venue where they have availability, often for free. There are a lot of really decent venues out there! One bit of advice to UK couples (I cannot comment on American situation) is GET INSURANCE - in the grand scheme of things it is inexpensive and should anything like this happen you would get your money back. My heart goes out to these couples and I hope they find a venue to host a beautiful day for them.
It is just an idea that is pushed by the wedding industry that your wedding is the “best day of your life”. Mine was miserable and it was only done for the family members that didn’t want to pay for it. I had dealt with the intense work and family ugliness with my sister’s wedding the year before mine. After she cried constantly during that experience she then behaved in the exact same ugly way our family did at her wedding which I now just find funny 23 yrs later. I have been encouraging my kids for years to just do a quick courthouse wedding and then do a big party with their friends. My wedding had maybe 20 of our friends and the rest were our parents which of which were not mostly my dad’s who was the person that paid for the wedding.
I'm realizing lots of people don't understand bankruptcy. It sounds like they are bankrupt. Guess what that means? Nobody gets their money back. If there is no money to give back there is no money to give back. It's as simple as that. They do technically owe their debt but it's greatly reduced and there's priority. Consumers are bottom of the list. It's typically just a lost for you. Many such cases of companies going bankrupt and employees never getting the pension they contributed to because the money simply doesn't exist because the company doesn't exist.
If the venue is allowed to accommodate her, I wouldn't just assume. Many of these places have their insurance tied to things like occupancy levels and they cannot make exceptions.
Even if the land dispute was caused by mistake (the cutting down trees is awful to me but legal and they wanted to expand business) the fucking with people lives but not informing in time and STEALING their money to either cover the court/suit stuff or running away to another state or sth is diabolical and I hope for swift punishment and returning of funds to the couples
This just happened to a bunch of people with events planned at a doubletree in Pittsburgh, too. The hotel basically closed overnight and kicked its current guests out in the morning, much to their surprise. And for events that were booked years in advance, people found out they had no venue by hearing about it on the news.
This happened to a place near me the same year I got married and o e of my friends was effected! The venue was all inclusive with cake, catering, wedding dress, decor etc. they didn’t get any money back. Their total was $13,000
The company sounds like scammers and crooks. If they were sued last year, why didn't they take some of the down payment money and pay the debt. At least part of it. Smh. All the couples can do is get in line and sue them too. 😮
omg i remember this! but from the neighbor's pov! i still cant believe they only asked for 100k total, thats under 1g per tree-really under 500 per tree, since half the amt asked was a separate expense. ive literally never held $1000 and that seems like too little
I feel for these Brides. Way back when I was married, the limo company went out of business and didn't contact me. When I called to confirm them 2wks before my wedding, I was informed that they had closed shop, but when they realized that I was not given my deposit back. They borrowed 3 limo's for the day to honor the contract.
Yeah had a similar experience, but it was related to part of our contract not being honored. The venue tried to just swap contracts and leave us without food… I talked to a lawyer had one pretty nasty call with the venue said “breach of contract” 3 times and magically they were going to find me a caterer to honor the original price… so I’d go legal immediately and always pay attention to what’s happening with your venue in the news. Wild
thats crazy because I just saw this on the news because I'm from Minnesota. Yeah its actually crazy crazy! There are over 5 weddings cancelled and no money return. The news reporter even tried to contact them physically at the owners home and no one answered.
When she said the date my heart hit the floor. This is awful. It’s spring in the USA!! That’s a lot of couples and a lot of money!!! If they had told them in Feb they would have been forced to refund the money which had probably already been spent on legal fees
LOL so they screwed over their neighbors, have to pay those people 100k, took 19 event deposits to pay themselves, stole AT LEAST $165,300 from their scheduled wedding events, and have effectively made each of those couples responsible for late cancellation fees for every single one of their vendors. Most likely forcing each couple to be held responsible for a waste of AT LEAST $12,000 So I'd sue for 15,000 and emotional damages & distress. As well as fraudulent business practices for cutting off communication.
Once you file bankruptcy you are no longer obligated to pay refunds..I owned a flower shop.. everything included..they cleaned out the shop and never paid me a penny. I have them 6 months to pay 250,000. I'm in Virginia. I wonder if it's the same in Minnesota
I get why they're not speaking to people on the phone, they would just get cursed tf out on the phone, and even though they deserve it, no one wants to sit on the phone all day with people crying and cursing them out
I think when you pay for a service and the service is not provided you have to be refunded or it's stealing. They need to pay those couples back period!
just got married this past saturday and i CANNOT imagine what this would do to me. planning is already such hell!! we got ghosted by our baker a month before the wedding, we scheduled a tasting and drove 4 hours for it and when we got to the bakery the employees had no idea we'd be coming and told us the owner (who we'd been speaking to the whole time) was out of town. we never even got an apology or explanation, she just never contacted us again. thank god we hadn't spent any money yet, i truly would have lost my mind being in the situation these couples are in. our venue and the coordinator that they required we use also ignored us for a full week leading up to the wedding!! and throughout the process we realized that numerous vendors had contracts that were completely full of holes. everything ended up working out beautifully for us, but it was a real lesson in reading extremely carefully and double checking everything. to be honest though, i don't know what you could even do to prevent the situation that these people are in. i'm sure they all signed contracts and did everything right, i can't see how you could possibly anticipate the venue completely defaulting and (presumably) filing for bankruptcy. all i know is i am soooo incredibly glad to never have to plan another wedding in my life!
From mn and getting married this year. We toured that place shortly before it was sold over to the couple. They also own several other venues, turned comments off one of their venues ig. Thankfully a lot of venues and stuff are stepping up. I pray Katelyn and others are able to find things. This happened to my friend a few months ago in st paul mn unfortunately as well, and mines not until September at a different venue (we dodged a bullet but truly hoping our venue stays classy).
I feel so bad. Unfortunately this is not the first time I've heard of this. Happened to a friend of mine. Please close down , would not refund or deposit. Guess what though, all family and friends scrambled, & came up with something and it was a beautiful beautiful wedding day. I hope the same for them.❤ Unfortunately no calls or email??? They might as well have just said, "bleep off". Ugh
They knew they were being sued. They just came up with their funds needed to cover the lawsuit. Too bad it's off the group of traumatized brides and grooms. That's a lawsuit in itself. Gross behavior
A news article was posted yesterday which is even crazier. It doesn’t mention them getting sued for the tree situation…but a commenter adds that the couple bought a golf course. Each of three or more properties, all over $1M apparently and they didn’t know how to properly run any of them. Some people are wondering how they got approved for these loans. When they bought the wedding venue, they immediately posted it for sell just 5 months later. It looks like they thought they could flip enough profit from selling the wedding venue to cover the other two properties (or something like that). But it’s all crashing down now.
As someone who’s currently planning a wedding, they suggest booking the venue at LEAST 8 months prior to the date so you can have the food and dj and everything all set, I can’t imagine how stressful this would be TWO WEEKS before the day
Yes. Even if the company’s file for bankruptcy, the people who had contracts with them as well as proof of deposit/payment will have to show up at bankruptcy court to testify before the judge that the company is not exempt and they will be ordered to pay the money back. If they don’t pay, everything they own is sold and the money is distributed accordingly to exempt from bankruptcy parties. The Butt’s will be penniless, homeless and without transportation if the vehicles are paid off. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed typing out Butt’s 😂😂

Wait wait wait. They have 19 couples lets assume all of them paid 8700 before their wedding. Thats like 165,000 dollars. Why would you not just pay the 50,000 grand or settle for a lower amount and keep your businesses? People really hate themselves and want to ruin their own lives these days
If they took a deposit after they knew they would be closing down, I think you can sue them for fraud.
I was going to say cant rhey sue
They can sue but it's so easy to get out of judgements and you might end up spending more on the lawyer than you'd even get back.
Personally, I'm petty so if I thought I'd win, I don't care of 100% of my lost money goes to a lawyer. At least you don't still have it

Venue signed a contract and promised a partial refund. Check if someone got video and take them to court.
Oh my gosh, that’s horrid!! How did your friend/the bride handle it? I know some brides would be understandably freaking out and devastated and others who by that point have done so much planning and dealt with so much stress that they just roll with it and go numb basically 🤣
Jesus Christ that is awful
If they were willing to kill 115 trees without even batting an eye then they for sure never were good people and would have never cared for those clients...
Especially since it's someone else's trees.
Still in litigation bc she moved to a different state and keeps asking for more time and not showing up. Soon the court will decide without her. We just want money to fix it. Our driveway is screwed.
I'm sorry, this whole situation is so sad and serious. But your closing line got me good 🤣🤣🤣
If I learned anything from Reddit it’s that tree law is something you can’t mess around with.
You'd think they'd have enough with how expensive the venue is- almost 9k per wedding? And I suspect it's more than 19 couples.
You going "ooh, tree law" made me think of bird law. 🤣

Faith in humanity restored!
If anyone paid a deposit by credit card, they should file a dispute with their credit card company for goods and services not received. The chargeback should go through as they cannot prove a wedding was done.
Knowing these scumbags they only accepted cash knowing it's harder to get a refund
They did offer discounts to people who paid fully in cash.
If I’ve learned one thing from the internet, it’s that Tree Law is very real and has very real consequences.
I really wish MN was a state with treble damages for tree law rn
I'm wondering how they did it? Cut them down for a better view? Maybe an accident like started a fire?
@@TamanduaGirl Gender reveal gone wrong? hehe

If a company goes bankrupt without offering refunds, the people have to get in line as a debtor. They will probably be out their money unless they have wedding insurance
Wedding INSURANCE? The frick is that? This is just taking the piss now. Does everything require separate insurance now?
Um yes, if you are using a service you should always ask if they are bonded or have insurance... That way you don't run into this exact situation.
My sister and mother both made sure of this before renting a venue actually. I'm Canadian so maybe it's not normal in the US?
But again, most services should have insurance or you should walk away
Not if they were aware they were insolvent and continued taking deposits. That is a crime.

@KhaosChilde97 yup and it sucks. I recently bought concert tickets and felt like I had to get the insurance provided in order to get my money back just in case something happen beforehand.
What maddens me the most with these businesses…..they continue to keep gathering money via deposits
when they know full well they cannot/will not supply the services. If they are in financial trouble, this goes on for months prior to closing.
So they are essentially doing a last minute money grab to further their gains on the backs of the patrons who will be devastated by their losses.
Thats fraud they can’t legally do this
Yeah, if they were collecting money when they knew they weren't going to be open, they stole from those people, and they will get in trouble. Fraud is criminal.

The fact that they went on to someone else's property and destroyed trees shows what kind of people they actually are.
Those 19 couples should get together and make a big lawsuit as a united front.
Almost 9 grand for a single day event but they can’t keep the venue open? 😅😅
Ether fraud or shitty business practices with money. Im leaning towards fraud
@@1llustrouskingI'm leaning towards a little bit of both!
I have the feeling that most of the vendors involved will try to work with the couples as much as possible
One of my sister's friends was supposed to get married 2 days after they closed
the selfishness and stupidity it would take to destroy 115 trees adjacent to property you just purchased! whew lordie.
100k to replace that many trees is cheap! I'm guessing it was an orchard of some kind. Could be fruit or the trees themselves.
Unfortunately, a l out of these places only take cash deposits to avoid think from happening.
From the sound of it, they don't have any money to refund, they probably used it to pay for lawyers etc. and they might even have a lien on their property
In Australia, this is called Trading Whilst Insolvent and is a criminal offence under the Corporations Act of 2001.
You for sure said "topography" correctly, good job!
Also, oh boy, cutting down a whole forest doesn't really jive with the whole "dream wedding" aesthetic that many have. And what shit neighbors. I think they're lucky the neighbors weren't the type to escalate.

R/treelaw is going to have a field day with this one. 115 TREES?! They should just pay out. They are getting off easy.
The trees were cut down to improve the view of circle b and ya it's been known the circle b people would have to pay for the tree restoration since 2022
I think that they didnt say anything in February when they knew because they didnt want people to have the opportunity to demand a refund. 😮
This is in my hometown. Our community has really come together to try and help.
Circle B is near where I am! i hadn't seen this locally so I think it's hilarious I first hear of this from a British man XD. This is insane but minnesota hospitality is real so I hope everything gets sorted 😢
LOL I am in MN and this is the first place I’ve heard about it too 😂
If Reddit has taught me anything is that you don’t fuck with tree law.
Venue company literally ran by Butts and Cox 😂🤣
This is total BS!! Something really shady must have happened for them to close down so fast!! I would totally sue them!! They can't keep your money! 🤬
I knew the moment they blamed "the economy" was bull. Especially when they are charging about 10 grand per wedding.

The reason they have waitied 2 month to tell people is so gross.
Why my future wedding will be small and very intimate. Just a few friends and family. I'd rather spend the day being relaxed and stress free. ❤
Im getting married on my bday so I don't forget my anniversary lol.
That’s the way to do it. Married 10 years and we loved our court house wedding!
Sounds like a rip off circle k
F is wrong with people?? One thing I hate in life is scammers! 🤬
An article said that the owners cut down all those trees just days after buying the property. Did they think the trees were on their property?! And they knew two months before letting customers know about the venue closing?! So they knowingly stole money then.
So they tried to fix one lawsuit with 19 others? I hope they owned that land, because they're going to need it for reparations.
Um makes since they shut down if they cut down 150 trees. Goggle tree law! They could owe millions!!!!!

I saw this in the local news the other day and wasn’t ready to see it on any of the channels I follow lmao
Dude you could had given people TWO MONTHS notice instead of two weeks! How idiotic and irresponsible.
They're taking those deposits, keeping them and using them to pay the lawsuit.
And the people may not just be losing the one deposit but if they have to cancel they'll possibly lose deposits for cake, flowers, and photographer.
You know you made it when the butt pfp bots show up to comment in your vids
omg i remember this! but from the neighbor's pov! i still cant believe they only asked for 100k total, thats under 1g per tree-really under 500 per tree, since half the amt asked was a separate expense. ive literally never held $1000 and that seems like too little
Tree law tree law tree law!!!
As soon as I heard about the trees getting cut down the chanting started. Tree law tree law tree law!
Wild
i feel so bad for these couples, but i really brightened up when you read the stone hill farms comment. so glad that others are stepping up.
thats crazy because I just saw this on the news because I'm from Minnesota.
Most likely forcing each couple to be held responsible for a waste of AT LEAST $12,000
So I'd sue for 15,000 and emotional damages & distress.
This happened to my friend a few months ago in st paul mn unfortunately as well, and mines not until September at a different venue (we dodged a bullet but truly hoping our venue stays classy).
would you bring any merch out again?
i still have the hoodie you sold years ago but as im getting older it no longer fits🥲
I feel so bad. Unfortunately this is not the first time I've heard of this. Happened to a friend of mine. Please close down , would not refund or deposit.
Guess what though, all family and friends scrambled, & came up with something and it was a beautiful beautiful wedding day. I hope the same for them.❤
Unfortunately no calls or email???
As someone who’s currently planning a wedding, they suggest booking the venue at LEAST 8 months prior to the date so you can have the food and dj and everything all set, I can’t imagine how stressful this would be TWO WEEKS before the day
They knew. They didn't want to pay them back so they ghosted them.
Can they sue the venue for not giving refunds?
You should look into the foxtrot/dom’s market drama that is blowing Chicago up right now.
Yep, it's all over the local news here right now.
What happened??
They just closed their doors. Posted a sign on the door they were no longer in business. It happened just a few days ago.
@@selenafanparasiemprewhat is it? A grocery store?
@@selenafanparasiemprenvm came back here to say I looked it up and I’m in the rabbit hole on tik tok now lol. I live in Denver and have never heard of it but I’m invested in this 😶
Wait wait wait. They have 19 couples lets assume all of them paid 8700 before their wedding. Thats like 165,000 dollars. Why would you not just pay the 50,000 grand or settle for a lower amount and keep your businesses? People really hate themselves and want to ruin their own lives these days
Thank you for the apology! 😄
