You said “ give a house” but rights to take back ?
Thats isn’t gifting. That is the issue - if the home was truly gifted then legally ownership would have been exchanged the day the family moved it. But it wasn’t …
So the home was sold to many as it was gifted or traded but really it’s just the ability to live in the home. It’s not okay - we aren’t seeing the full picture. Many would be upset and no longer care if they were told on camera “ the house was hers- she won” but then as late as 14 months- the home was never legally Shay’s.
I agree the TT Shay posted wasn’t okay considering… but we don’t know why she FELT that way. Was it because she’s the only one who knows deep down the home was never going to be legally hers ( because that matters). Most of us have contracts and legal documents linking us and protecting us in our home. She didn’t have any contact it seems or her belongings wouldn’t have been legally able to be removed without time to collect them or a proper eviction ? Demi entering the home with another set of keys - that sounds like a landlord/tenant relationship. Not home ownership or trading a home …
So what are the requirements for the home to be Shay’s - seems like it was hers as long as she did …. What if Shay didn’t want someone texting her about a damn rug, neighbors knowing the house is someone else’s enough to text the legal owner, for future content to be created. At what point in time if things went differently would the home legally belong to Shay?
I’d trash the home too if I was told I “ won and it would be legally mine “ but catch on to the idea that maybe it’s not and won’t be and I have no documents protecting me in the home. I’d be pissed too that I moved states away -
What happened in the first month that made Shay leave - was it related to the home ? Or was moving states away to find out you are just a TT famous tenant.
I’m not saying the homes condition is acceptable but many believe she’s just entitled or lazy but I think there is more to the story - as what time if any would legal home ownership be exchanged? I don’t think if ever would have been and that’s why she left and why she left and didn’t have fund to come back. We don’t know -

Shay probably got overwhelmed at what happened to the house shortly after getting it for free and was too embarrassed to say anything and instead fled hoping to find some sort of solution before coming back, but being young and getting something for free, instead just put it out of her mind and low on her list of priorities. @@sydneysovern You have kind of made my point for me here.
It's not about 'blame' as such to my mind.
This is why things have gotten out of shape I think.
To me it's about a well-meaning person (Demi) and an overwhelmed person (Shay) not reaching a common goal that seems to be in both their interests.
The fact Demi said she would help out after-the-fact I think shows that she recognised a need to support Shay, but by then things were already out of shape.
Maybe Shay didn't have the money to go back once she left and couldn't clean up the place even if she wanted to??
Maybe Demi shouldn't have made the 'shaming video' where she is crying and somehow becomes a victim in alll of this.
Both sides then are online tying to save face, and things go further downhill.
I think they both made mistakes that could, and perhaps should, have been avoided, and to some degree both sides seem to lack the maturity/capability to have made a better outcome.
There are lessons to be learned for everyone here I think, and it's a shame that both people seem a bit damaged from the situation now.

It's perfectly fine to give a house to a younger person. The hard part about doing that is vetting the young adult AND their family. No one really expects anyone to know exactly what they're doing when they get their first house, that's what your family and friends are for. They should be able to help pick up slack or coach you through some things.
I have 0 issues with a 19 year old getting a house. You just need to vet them properly. If you don't want to go through that kind of hassle then don't give it to a 18/19 year old. Honestly though there are people older than her who trash houses just as equally or worse for their age. Age means nothing when it comes to human maturity levels.

My husband has to stay home and help me
And I am literally in the middle of trying to find someone to move a very old broke down trailer to my property so that way I can fix it up some and get my girls myself and my husband in a better living situation than what we're currently in.... I was 19 and pregnant living in a hostel. I am autistic with mental health issues. I get the issues with taking care of stuff but to be given a home, given everything like furniture too. This woman would have helped her had she said she was struggling with maintaining it and wasn't sure she was old enough. I hope someone in need gets the house or gets it cheap to rent. Hopefully, someone with a child or disabled. I think the fact she tried to villainise this kind soul is where i have lost sympathy. And that is as someone who has had struggles with maintaining a home. Was in a few flats but mainly bnbs and hostels from 17 to 20. My mental health has caused issues, no doubt. But to try demonise someone who did nothing but care and offer an amazing opportunity after you direspected it is where i lose all empathy or sympathy and think you are just not nice at all as a person.

At 16 l lived in a rental house with 4 others and we had a cleaning roster that we took turns with EVERY weekend. We didn't even have a washing machine or a vacuum cleaner and l can still remember how difficult it was to handwash sheets and the blisters we'd get from sweeping the fitted carpets and how grateful we were when out landlord bought us a wringer washing machine AND being terrified of getting my hand pulled into the wringer. It would never have occured to me not to clean some where l lived. Her being 19 is a nonsense excuse.

Im a former foster kid from a group home in the uk where the staff would literally feed us twice a day, make sure we were inside at curfew and at least left the kids home to go to school. We werent shown how to manage a home, clean, pay bills etc and at 16 i was kicked into my own house and told to deal with it. I didnt even know how to use a microwave and yet my home was fking SPOTLESS every damn day. I couldnt even imagine living ina home like this at 16 and now, at 33, i still couldnt ever imagine letting my home look like this! This is just a quarter of the filth i was forced to live in from birth to 7 when i went into foster care. Who the F at NINETEEN lets their home look like this?! There is literally NO excuse!! People can say "she wasnt shown how to do XYZ" but thats BS! My husband grew up in literal squalor with a hoarder mother and grandmother, my husband lived in a home where there were FULL dirty cat litter boxes from FIFTEEN years ago that had grown mouldy because of his mother and right up until 2020 he had NEVER been shown how to do anything in a home, 2020 hemoved in with me and right from day 1 he has taught himself and had me help him learn how to do things he shouldve been taught years ago. If me and my husband have managed to learn how to run and clean a home and can keep our home spotlessdespite both being physically disabled and having a maine coon and a Norwegian forest cat, then there is absolutely no excuse for a 19 year old to live in such disgrace. And dont even start with the poor mental health crap! I have bipolar, autism, adhd, ptsd and severe anxiety. Im also physically disabled and will be completely and 100% non weight bearing and having 6 more surgeries to completely rebuild my ankle over the next 18 months. Ive been in plaster and unable to put weight on my foot for the past week and a half and ive still managed to keep my house clean while also having a brain tumour and cancer treatment. There. Is. No. Excuse. This girl shouldve been so effing grateful and ecstatic to receive such a beautiful home!

I've been in that mental state she was in with the house... it's difficult to explain how overwhelmed your brain gets, how it's like you're drowning in the mess, and the guilt. The guilt is suffocating. And it spirals... the worse it gets, the more paralysed you feel, which only makes it worse. Which is probably why she didn't return... she couldn't face it. It's a fucked up mental state I've learnt is connected to my ADHD and autism... a form of meltdown, literally neurological. These days I pay for a cleaner once a week to help prevent getting into that spiralling state of mind. She's only 19 so hopefully with time she might learn to see the pattern and findhealthy ways to manage it.
God though. What I'd do for a home. I'm terrified I'm going to end up homeless when my mum dies and she's 80... my disabilities have made life so difficult and expensive. I get why people are mad at her for letting this gift fall apart.

Did they not do the legal paperwork to make her the legal owner of the house? Why is Demi even involved anymore? When you give someone a house you quit claim it and you walk away... It's no longer yours to worry about. It sounds like Demi just let her live there.
