I’ve mounted many a light fixtures. It looked like the faux beam initially has wooden supports anchored to the ceiling which the beam is then anchored to. So if they did a solid anchor point and mounting the fixture framing to those braces was done correctly, from a structural standpoint I don’t see why it would be an issue. I would have repainted the beam with a matte color personally because the sheen to it makes it look like a poorly decorated cake. Also I agree I would try and knockdown quite a bit of the grout and bring back the majority look of the originally stone. As the highlighted comment noted as a flipper you primarily want potential clients to see a canvas they can paint their own vision on. Over-stylizing the home definitely narrows your potential market pool and will leave the house on market longer forcing you to reduce the price as the longer it sits, the more out of pocket expenses to the flipper.

What blows me away is how they openly put their hack job online, so any perspective buyer already knows how cheap and shit their work is. Assuming they are blind and couldn't otherwise tell by looking. But I digress. Lol.
When we were buying a house a while back, 6 years or so, we came across so many like this, and they would often list their homes at nearly $100k higher than the most expensive houses in the neighborhood. Sometimes more. And, five years later and damn near $200k shaved off their original asking price, and still not one single offer. Because they destroyed these homes trying to make a quick buck, and unfortunately dragged down the value of other homes in those neighborhoods as a result.
If people like this have a humiliation kink or something, they should just find a sex dungeon. Because it's way cheaper than this. 😂

The houses they sell are in terrible condition because they DIY them with horrible quality materials and shoddy build, they're a big part of why the US housing market is a mess. So people are understandably mad at them.

It makes no sense to do that to the fireplace “to lighten it up so it matches the flooring” then put in a dark faux beam. The beam would have actually matched the old fire place much better & with the huge windows, bringing so much nature in from outside, keeping the fireplace more natural looking would have been the way to go.
They obviously don’t have any decorating sense because the first thing any professional worth their weight in salt would have done is to recognize the windows & what they bring into the home & enhance that, instead of jumping on a trend that’s going to be outdated shortly & poorly executing it at that. Such a shame

The home inspector comes running back inside, and tells everyone to get off the floor immediately , the floor we had been standing on, was made with particleboard, and was being held up by cinderblocks. All the house needed done was cleaning and maybe some new windows and making sure the plumbing and electricity was up to code. And then sell it. It was gorgeous. General Contractor here! Unfortunately, we won't really know if the foam is fire rated or not, but there are foams that are safe to use for building purposes! A lot of materials used in the home building process are actually very flammable (i.e., wood studs, gypsum wall board, foam insulation, etc), but these products are treated and come with a fire rating represented in hours, typically. I would suggest that this couple get the technical information of the product and include it in a package to any home buyer.
In the case of the beam, though, my personal concern is more for the integrity of the light fixture secured to the beam. Unless it goes through into some kind of blocking in the ceiling, the weight of that fixture probably won't hold onto just foam, even if it's a high density foam.

As someone who lives in a "flipped" apartment, the quality sucks. Like yeah it may have looked nice when I signed the lease, but as soon as I did we noticed the cracks, literal and figurative. The kitchen counters are just a wrap of sorts so if you clean them too much or with the wrong soap the design just dissolves away. My bathroom ceiling tiles are not lined up and have massive gaps around the edges. There's faux foam white bricks in my kitchen that they attached a wooden table top to that was only held up by 2 skinny pieces of wood. Not attached, just kinda placed under it. Then there's the usual water damage, cracked paint, etc.
All this to say, whoever buys the house from them is gonna feel scammed real quick. It seems like most "house flippers" don't think about how the quality of the material they use is going to affect the people living there. Yeah, it'll look nice but it's gonna be destroyed by normal wear and tear. It may not be there problem at that point, and I don't see them changing their behaviors anytime soon, but who knows. Maybe enough people "bullying" them (and by that I mean pointing out what Markie and others have said about the quality) will make them change. Would they live in a home where the only thing holding up an entire light fixture is a foam beam? Maybe, but I'd lean towards no.

Ugh I used to think house flippers were a good thing. Now they just cut all the corners and make shitty designs, usually ruining the very things that make the home feel like a personal space. Not to mention that they take all the affordable houses from the lowest incomes who are able to buy so there's nothing left for those to buy a house and get stuck in rentals that wind up being more expensive than if they could have bought that affordable house.
Yes, Im one of those. My man and I can only affoed the cheapest houses on the market, and before we even get a notification about a new house for sale, flippers have swooped in and bought it out from under us. It sucks to watch as all the small, semi-decent homes we could have had get the flipper treatment and then cost three to five times as much as it did the first time. Thank God we can rent way cheaper from my inlaws or we'd be in trouble in this market.

So I showed your video to a couple mates of mine that work as a home improvement specialist; demolishing, refurbishing and replacing for ~10 years, and my electrician; he has been working in the field for about 8 years, to get their takes on the situation.
The first said that the German smear could have looked good if it was done right. The flaws were they caked the joining areas with the stuff and didn't really balance out the darker stones with the lighter plaster. Plaster when set can be taken up with a little bit of work. He said that if they wanted to do it right they should have had a very small amount in the joining areas and light smears to break up the darker parts of the stone.
The electrician said that if done right that the foam is no more a fire hazard than regular ceiling is. He did say without actually being able to see if the wire is running from the wall across the foam or coming straight through the ceiling straight down through the foam. He said the difference is you have more wire you have to make sure is not damaged during installation with the former.
    Do hope this helps.
P.S. I hope you all have a fantastic day and stay safe.

There are literally at least seven types of non-toxic black mould, the most common being cladosporium. Many people come into contact with cladosporium on a DAILY basis and have little to no negative effects, unless they’re already compromised such as asthmatics. While it is absolutely recommended to address ANY mould found, non-toxic included, their actions of removing the affected boards and those surrounding it should be sufficient. Surprisingly, there is also no federal law in the US that requires sellers to disclose the presence or past presence of mould in the home, though some states do require it. Since this is their personal home, you have NO idea whatsoever what they plan to disclose should they ever sell, so saying they should be in prison is absolutely absurd. The fact that they disclosed PUBLICLY in their TikToks that their home was found to have mould is probably a good sign that they were never intending to hide it…

I’m fully of the mindset, if you’re living in a home do what you want. I’m sick of people being forced to live in boring beige boxes because it will supposedly keep the retail value for some hypothetical future owner and you can’t even enjoy your own home while you’re in it. I personally do draw the line at massive renovations on historic homes that have original character and charm and can’t be undone, want a modern home vibe? Buy a modern home, don’t remove the beautiful details from a historic home when there’s other options. I loath most flippers though, they’re mostly in it for all the wrong reasons and I can spot most flips in seconds, keeping track of the local real estate market is a hobby of mine and the cheap flips are aging, taste and quality wise, poorly. They’re a contributing factor in the worsening of the real estate market, everyone thinks they can be a flipper with no skills and a tiny budget that leaves a butchered house for someone else to buy at a premium and deal with all their shoddy work.

As long as they divulge every corner they’ve cut and every bad choice they’ve made when they do sell it then it’s fine. Because they’ll probably get close to or less than what they paid for it due to the sheer amount of extra work needed to make it liveable and safe.

So after a google...Yes, there is non-toxic mold? But it can still be allergenic. Meaning if they didn't address the mold and later sold the house, it could still be dangerous to some people. Personally, I don't think they actually addressed it fully. Like they removed the worst planks of wood. I only think that because that's such a strange thing to not mention in the OG video. Why would they not explain the whole situation after bringing attention to the mold in the first place?

The big issue here is that they’re flipping the home, not that they’re changing the aesthetic. At the end of the day someone has to like it enough to buy it with the added renovation costs and it has to pass any home inspections because they are no longer selling it “as-is” the way they bought it.
When you flip a home it’s best to keep things simple and for general tastes. Putting too much personalization in it is not only going to hurt your overall renovation budget, but it’ll hurt how much you get for the house because MOST homebuyers aren’t looking to renovate their new homes.
HOWEVER, hateful comments? The internet is a cesspool. It really is. Either these people are too sensitive for comments that disagree with what they’ve chosen to post, or people are truly leaving hateful, bullying comments (Callem didn’t show any). Maybe some combination of the two or one or the other. Either way, the internet is a cesspool.
If you’re too sensitive to get criticism, get off the internet. And if an ugly design choice affects you so much that you feel you need to threaten someone or really leave something hateful, get off the internet.
