Yeah that would be pretty intriguing maybe the USA fully takes part in it instead of Liberia being controlled by the American colonial society essentially becoming the first true colony in Africa this might lead either more American colonialism or something else because a large part of the reason the USA didn’t want to colonize and add territories like that much is because of the hypocrisy around it if Liberia were to become independent in this timeline I would suppose it would likely become a second USA the United States of Africa

Both never colonised except for quick invasions by the British and Italians, both very mountainous, similar populations (Iran would of had more then Ethiopia if it were not for their population restriction laws), both the leaders of their own subgroup of religion, both leaders of their own genetic family (Iran of iranic countries and Ethiopia of Cushitic countries), and both have very diverse ethnic groups in their countries.

I actually think the key to this scenario lies in that "flavorless" period. The reason Japan's modernization was so successful was due to the developments of the Edo period. The stability and peace brought a bunch of population growth and importantly, huge economic developments. Before Commodore Perry was even born innovative financial techniques were developing in Japan with a rapidly commercializing economy. Many of the Zaibatsu that were key figures of Japanese industrialization got their start here. Furthermore, literacy became even more widespread than it had been in the past. For Ethiopia to have a Japan situation, it would need similar developments in the period before the 1800s imo

This information was given to them both orally and in writing. However, there will always be some criminals in any nation. The guy wants a vanity project and a chance to prove the inherent superiority of fascism by avenging Italy's embarrassing old loss. The chip on Italy's shoulder combined with the continuing European superiority complex over Africans means I still think a second Italo-Ethiopian war happens, with Italy losing again as the video mentions.
So then, what would happen afterwards? Would Mussolini's reign or even the entire Italian fascist system itself even survive the backlash of this second humiliation, and what impact if any could this conflict's result have on the remaining interwar period and WW2? I have to be honest, this is a direction I hoped the video would have gone down when I began watching.

I'd argue a ww1 central powers modernised ethiopia could actually turn the tide here. Ww1 was largely a numbers game, and the british african colonies were not that militarised at all. I could imagine some ethiopian campaign up the nile to threaten egypt itself. It probably would push a bit, then get bogged down in sudan. Eating up more british troops in the process.
but more importantly, if they take djibouti and somali land, they could cut the red sea. Which would put a lot of pressure on the british. Ww1 was close enough that these changes alone could turn it towards a central powers win.

      @zombiedalekweck2243 Před 2 měsíci

For all the other reasons said, Ethiopia joining the Central Powers wouldn't change much.
Not only was Germany already encouraging the Dervish to gain independence and fight the Ethiopians and the Italians, but they NEED British materials in order to fund their industry. Ethiopia simply doesn't have those resources to fuel their industry. Ditching their only real trade partner for them is basically death. Germany couldn't supply Ethiopia as the French, British, and Italian navies in the region would simply destroy whatever small fleet the Ethiopians (Likely bought ships off the British, Italian ships that were captured in the earlier war and a couple Ethiopian built gunboats.) had and use the Aden Protectorate as a port instead.
The Ethiopian economy would likely collapse, and they'd quickly be defeated from there.

But I am curious. What if the Congo managed to do something similar on their own, or together with modern-Ethiopia's rise?
Or what if the Kingdom of Aksum never falls? Or at the very least, the core of Ethiopia stays in the Tigrayan Ethiopian Highlands; and not the southern lowlands where Addis Ababa resides today? Just a thought. Oh, and speaking of video ideas, what about that South Suda-

I think if Ethiopia showed prosperity, the other African nations would follow their model, in the same way as happened to Japan in Asia, a stronger Ethiopia would probably led them to be a important US ally in the region, probably in more recent years Ethiopia would wage a anti Islamic campaign alongside Israel, intervening in some Sahel nations and specially Yemen. If we speculate more I would predict Ethiopia with a standard of living similar to Chile and much more global influence, but couldn't imagine those effects in the most important prospect, the rastafari and reggae.

Honestly, if we wanted Ethiopia to modernize, it would’ve been best to start with Aksum. That was the one time they completely dominated trade on the Red Sea, was allied w/ Rome, had influence over the Arabian Peninsula, & was even considered a superpower.
It would be better to start with Aksum winning the Persian-Aksumite War instead of losing. Then, they’d likely still have territory in the Middle East, influence in the Red Sea, &, most importantly, wouldn’t be landlocked anymore. Then, go from there. I think that would improve their chances BY ALOT!!!!! By starting from the very very beginning. Changing things there… in the nation that shaped Ethiopia’s entire identity. That would improve Ethiopia’s potential the most

There were many in both French and British governments which admired the Italian fascist system, including Churchill and others. In this scenario, it's possible that Ethiopia conquered the Horn of Africa in WWII.
    1) Ethiopia win the Second Italo-Ethiopian war and conquers Eritrea and Somalia. About the question "would Mussolini be stupid enough..." Yes, he was, ask to the Greeks. XD
    2) When France become Vichy, Ethiopia could conquer Djibouti with the justification to prevent a axis-collaborationist colony. Allied thumbs up.
    3) Ethiopia would be an important ally in Africa, specially in terms of supplies to North African front. If the Suez canal had fallen, UK would have been in danger. With that in mind, it isn't so crazy UK sold British Somaliland to keep Ethiopia in the war, is similar to Churchill's offer to give Northern Ireland in return of Ireland entered in the war.
After decolonization, Ethiopia could leader Eastern African Union, it's its natural sphere of influence. I think the depth of this union depends of the experience of Ethiopia with integrate the Horn of Africa.
