- In 2019, Lady Gaga's Little Monsters created a fake Starbucks promotion called #SHALLOWBUCKS where they tricked twitter users into streaming Shallow from A Star is Born (2018) for a free Starbucks drink, to help the song reach Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, after Lady Gaga's live performance with Bradley Cooper at the Oscars. The iconic scam went viral and created a legacy on stan twitter, where stans would attempt to trick locals with similar scams.

I agree, I don't mind them tricking the locals or anything but the starbucks employees had to go through people constantly asking about the drink, tweeting about it multiple times and I also heard that some were harassed, there's nothing funny and iconic about that. @@2cvlt740 there's probably some references to it on twitter but the account that started the thing had to delete the tweets where they encouraged others to submit their fancams because the app collected some personal information. they took down the app in a few hours thanks to the spam though

As soon as I saw fknico's bio as "graphic designer" I knew immediately that he was the one started the fake poster. Graphic designers are known to make mock posters of an existing brand for practice. I know this while studying graphic design in college. Despite being a fake poster, he really did a great job artistically imo.

Although something I've observed in myself (and am assuming others might as well), is that when something is shared by a friend, I presume they've done their due diligence or that they have more information than I do. So even if something is shared that's not by a verified account, it's just an example of something that's really happening. I could easily see myself sharing this post saying "I haven't tried yet, but in case it's real" and then a mutual of mine assuming it was indeed a real offer.

There have been times that Stan Twitter have done mass amounts of charity and online protesting. 💖💗💓
Here are some examples:
1) BTS fans donated to Minneapolis Bail Fund and spammed facecams on Police Stations' websites when they were asking people to send in anonymous tips about protestors during the height of the George Floyd case.
2) Stans spammed White Supremacist tags on Twitter with facecams to drown out racist tweets.
3) They are currently helping to raise money for a woman who lost her home due to her ex committing arson.

Social media sites will soon be required to make their platforms less addictive and toxic by the government, and Stan culture fits into both those categories. Expect Stan accounts to be shadowbanned, Stan hashtags to be taken off and more. This is the people demanding their mental health back from the tech corporations wanting to keep us on their sites for as long as possible for profits.

Or more commonly they'll just be really disappointed and it does genuinely suck for everyone letting someone down like that. Especially younger teens that don't have enough money to really afford Starbucks who maybe were counting on that free drink. Idk it's not a huge deal, I just feel bad for any kids that really did believe anything like this.

No! I used to have a Stan Twitter account and it got suspended. All Stan accounts on Twitter have to make it clear they aren't impersonating a celebrity and aren't affiliated with a celebrity and even then, they might still get suspended. So many popular stan accounts get deleted and they have to gain all their followers back.
Im assuming people who post cp content are only allowed to as in some countries drawn cp is actually legal. Although I still don't get the full reason why stan account get suspended.
Same on Tumblr, they've been banning random trans women for stupid fucking reasons (one got banned because they only told a story about being threatened with a knife by their roommate,no joke) but you can find a gif of someone's entire ass being spread as a top post in the tag or as a blazed post, social media today istg

I laughed so much throughout this entire video. I remember specifically living through this era on Twitter and even then it would send me. I remember the accounts of fake older people saying they love Gaga. We love to see dedication and hardwork at its finest lmaoo
As a 'local' I'm kind of impressed by the effort going into this, but also baffled by the fact a lot of people weren't having enough faith in that the song of the artist they were supposedly 'stanning' wouldn't be good enough on its own to reach number 1.

It’s not that they don’t believe they won’t reach number 1, it’s more or less a trend to be able to “push” a song towards a goal such as an award or top spot on the billboards. Like the K-pop stans to bring awareness to their favorite band
All stans do it tho, its more of like a community goal/gift to the artist and to feel like you are participating and helping out. Also its funny.
Stans just want their favorite celebrity to succeed and someone can make an amazing song, but it won't get a number 1 because it wasn't marketed well.

A lot of stan Twitter seems too obsessed with numbers. I just wanna enjoy artists I like and I am proud to see them in a position higher than other artists that I don't really listen to, but then I have the knowledge that their number of streams was very inflated by people playing it on numerous devices while probably not even listening to the songs at all. But that's kind of what they have to do because that's the exact same thing being done for every artist :/

I don't think this was a morally right thing to do. Yes Lady Gaga is *amazing* and deserves all of the number one's but getting it through deception was not good. It leaves a bad taste in the mouths of potential new fans of Lady Gaga. Idk, I think this wasn't the best way to go about doing this. I'm a Sbux barista and I have one thing to say...if you can create fake drink promotions, then you can fill out a Starbucks job application. If you're gonna make extra work for us to deal with, you might as well pitch in and deal with the mess you started. Dealing with people who haven't eaten or had their caffeine yet is work enough.
