Much as Katniss is a far better written character and THG is on a far higher level of quality and storytelling complexity, I do get why some teens would vote for Tris. The Hunger Games was brutal and real, while Divergent was a young adult novel through and through. Therefore, Katniss is a realistic, flawed character. But Tris is the perfect role model for teenage girls and I get how some teens may have felt inspired by such a character. And much as I think Katniss deserves the win, I think there is something nice about that, especially after the whole paranormal romance genre where the female protagonists weren't particularly inspiring most of the time.

It has no meaningful story, it's the most vanilla, generic Y/A Dystopia series ever created - its sole reason for existence was to ride off the coattails of THG's success. THG was/is a genuinely well crafted story first and foremost and that's the reason why it holds up so well today compared to all the other Y/A Dystopian series of the 2010s.
This one always confused tf out of me as an outsider random ass guy looking in. I read the hunger games books, and still to this day, even though I am now an adult man, the books hold up immaculately. The small details in the books that are translated to film vrs the parts they opted to leave out through the hunger games movies still holds strong as an adult to this day. I cant say the same for divergent whatsoever. I read the books, the same as the hunger games; but it was a large dose of second hand embarrassment and being genuinely confused about how the world operated or how it even functioned that long under the system presented in the books. The writing was just so poor in comparison to the hunger games that translating it to film just brought all of the second hand embarrassment onto the big screen. With every new divergent movie, the worse they got. I have absolutely no clue what made people enjoy, like, or find any sort of emotional attachment to the characters in the divergent films, ESPECIALLY the main character 😅 I WASNT even the target demographic for the hunger games, and yet its by far one of my favourite book to movie adaptations to date, while the books hold up right alongside. Divergent was.. A literal dumpster fire 😅💀

I would’ve been on Team Katniss, but I would also point out to them that in its bluntest form, the argument about rigging doesn’t seem to hold that much weight since Katniss also gained significant votes after the voting allegedly closed. If it was actually rigged for a specific character, you’d see more evidence, like the idea that Katniss voters stopped after a point while Tris voters continued. Sad as it is to say, I think that us Katniss fans were outplayed on this one and Tris voters managed to steal it from under them. The rules were poorly laid out and in contradiction of themselves from the start anyway.

Much as Katniss is a far better written character and THG is on a far higher level of quality and storytelling complexity, I do get why some teens would vote for Tris. The Hunger Games was brutal and real, while Divergent was a young adult novel through and through. Therefore, Katniss is a realistic, flawed character. But Tris is the perfect role model for teenage girls and I get how some teens may have felt inspired by such a character. And much as I think Katniss deserves the win, I think there is something nice about that, especially after the whole paranormal romance genre where the female protagonists weren't particularly inspiring most of the time.
Tris won but in the end I guess the Katniss fans got the last laugh because I genuinely have not thought about divergent since 2014 except in the context of “wow that series was kinda shit”
Who in their right mind would vote Tris?? My friend lended me the Divergent books in middle school and I couldn't STAND her, she somehow managed to be the most infuriating and yet mediocre character I've ever seen in my 20 years of life. Katniss may not have the most unique personality or anything, but at least she was interesting and had an actual character arc (and she got all of her movies)

It has no meaningful story, it's the most vanilla, generic Y/A Dystopia series ever created - its sole reason for existence was to ride off the coattails of THG's success. THG was/is a genuinely well crafted story first and foremost and that's the reason why it holds up so well today compared to all the other Y/A Dystopian series of the 2010s.

This one always confused tf out of me as an outsider random ass guy looking in. I read the hunger games books, and still to this day, even though I am now an adult man, the books hold up immaculately. The small details in the books that are translated to film vrs the parts they opted to leave out through the hunger games movies still holds strong as an adult to this day.
I cant say the same for divergent whatsoever. I read the books, the same as the hunger games; but it was a large dose of second hand embarrassment and being genuinely confused about how the world operated or how it even functioned that long under the system presented in the books. The writing was just so poor in comparison to the hunger games that translating it to film just brought all of the second hand embarrassment onto the big screen. With every new divergent movie, the worse they got. I have absolutely no clue what made people enjoy, like, or find any sort of emotional attachment to the characters in the divergent films, ESPECIALLY the main character 😅
I WASNT even the target demographic for the hunger games, and yet its by far one of my favourite book to movie adaptations to date, while the books hold up right alongside. Divergent was.. A literal dumpster fire 😅💀

I would’ve been on Team Katniss, but I would also point out to them that in its bluntest form, the argument about rigging doesn’t seem to hold that much weight since Katniss also gained significant votes after the voting allegedly closed. If it was actually rigged for a specific character, you’d see more evidence, like the idea that Katniss voters stopped after a point while Tris voters continued. Sad as it is to say, I think that us Katniss fans were outplayed on this one and Tris voters managed to steal it from under them. The rules were poorly laid out and in contradiction of themselves from the start anyway.
They should’ve had a voting poll on the website instead of this social media nonsense, like how the people behind this not realize that the hashtags could’ve been rigged as well?
