      @@HEINO_HOK Grass is a plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in a lawn and other places. Grass gets water from the roots in the ground. Grass is usually pigmented with the colour ‘green’. Grasses are monocotyledon, herbaceous plants.
      The grasses include the "grass", of the family Poaceae (also called Gramineae). Also sometimes it is used to include the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae). These three families are not closely related but belong to different clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a common life-style.
      The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others.
      Many grasses are short, but some grasses, like bamboo can grow very tall. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places, even if they are very cold or very dry. Several other plants that look similar but are not members of the grass family are also sometimes called grass; these include rushes, reeds, papyrus, and water chestnut.
      Grasses are an important food for many animals, like deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars, and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows. Without grass, dirt can wash away into rivers (erosion). Graminoids include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous. Fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing grass phytoliths (silica stones inside grass leaves).[Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are now the most widespread plant type. Grass is a valuable source of food and energy for many animals.Lawn grass is often planted on sports fields and in the area around a building. Sometimes chemicals and water is used to help lawns to grow.
      People have used grasses for a long time. People eat parts of grasses. Corn, wheat, barley, oats, rice and millet are cereals, common grains whose seeds are used for food and to make alcohol such as beer.
      Sugar comes from sugar cane, which is also a plant in the grass family. People have grown grasses as food for farm animals for about 4,000 years. People use bamboo to build houses, fences, furniture and other things. Grass plants can also be used as fuel, to cover roofs, and to weave baskets. n English, the word "grass" appears in several phrases. For example:
      "The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else." "Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something". "A snake in the grass" is about a person that will not be honest and will trick others. Grass is sometimes used as a slang term for cannabis (also called pot, weed, or marijuana)

    Just so all you English speakers know: the enemies of potaxie, "Fife" comes from "Fifa", which is an urban term that was born barely about the same time that the meme to refer to certain stereotypically "masculine" men without much other personality. So they were called FIFA because FIFA players have no taste and most men in LATAM enjoy soccer.
    They would be "Los fifas" for a certain period of time but the change to fifes is because "-e" has been used as a substitute for "-a/-o" in words, which indicates the binary gender. So "Elle/-e" is very similar to the use of they/them.
    Alternative pronouns are widely hated and mocked in spanish by a given of reasons, especially by the traditional type of people in which most "fifas" would fit in. So, at first, being referred as such term with ALSO using alternative pronouns on them made men more infuriated.
    This is also why people say potaxie and not potaxio or potaxia so commonly.

    One thing i'd like to add is the importance of kpop tiktok and generally kpop culture. I was part of kpop tiktok in early 2021 and the jiafei bots were a huge thing back then. When the memes with the broken english started, kpop tiktok started to break apart from the jiafei sphere as it was viewed as offensive towards asian people. Despite that, im pretty sure that a minimum of half of all people who know jiafei have had a 3rd/4th gen kpop stan phase during their lifes. Also disproportionately many jiafei remixes cover kpop songs.
    Asides the influence from the kpop sphere we need to acknowledge that jiafei has a huge queer fanbase and basically the whole philosophy with DaBoyz is based on straight men versus the LGBTQ community.
    Asides that you really made a great video, i almost started getting emotional fr😭 Since 2021 i always thought of it as an unimportant side event on my phone whenever im online but as the years passed i start to realize that it is a constant in my and for sure for many other people's lives. Im sure there are many floptropicans under us in real life without knowing so i think it would be cool if we connected more within our community. This is actually serious because we could become really significant one day as one of the few cultures which have a sense of identity despite geographical barriers. We are all around the world.

    Wow, that was an awesome video. I discovered Jiafei through Jiafei remixes on CZcams with Cupkake and although I knew Jiafei started on TikTok and was a parody of Chinese bot accounts, I never knew that there was so much more lore behind it. Thank you for the meme history lesson!

    in kpop fandoms, people merge the names of two members together when they are talking about the relationship between the two+ of them, or the two+ of them in the video acting similarly. with the trio MISAMO being a great example of that. if anyone was wondering why the two names were combined by fans in the first place.

    I would also like to add multiple businesses in Floptropica for example Remixes which are made in the Jiafei Tower in Jiafeia. There's also Dealdough Factory, dill fields in Cupcakkia; Floptropica also exports a large amount of resources like: Potassium which is mined in Potaxiene, Salt from the Cvm Canal, Sand, Alkaline Metals (Mainly for making batteries which are produced in Dealdough Factory), Precious metals (like gold, platinum, iridium) and most importantly polymers like Silicone Rubber, Polyvinyl Chloride and Polybenzimidazole used for Aeronautics and Space Travel 🥰🥰

    I honestly wasn’t there when the jiafei trend began but i was there when the potaxies community started and just wanted to say altho i know the video is about jiafei but i wanted to say also that “potaxie” it’s not just a misspronunciation of potassium. It has very much to do with the gender inclusive language and non binary community bc basically for those who don’t know in spanish everyword is gendered, and adjectives are either masculine or femenine so when queer people and feminists (bc the words that include a group of people the gender neutral is masculine always) strted to complain about not having a gender neutral term to refer to other’s they started using an “e” termination instead of “a”(typically femenine) or “o” (typically masculine) to make a gender inclusive language. Many people took it as a good thing and many other’s didn’t, but the thing is that in the potaxie community adopted this and now you can only communicate with inclusive language. I don’t know the reason why but that’s why there are so many “e” and so many “x” (another alternative termination for a gender inclusive language) in the potaxies videos. Hope someone finds this interesting bc idk what im doing with my life with all this info within me tbh…

    The word Potaxie is not only a mispronunciation of the word Potasio, it also is changed to be gender-neutral. In Spanish words ending with the letter o are often masculine and words ending with the letter a are often femenine, this has led to many non-binary people wanting to be referred as neither changing the final letter to an e. Therefore instead of saying Potaxias as in "female followers of the ›
    «Potaxio» goddess" we ended up saying Potaxies to be more inclusive

    • @sailorjabs
      @sailorjabs Před 10 měsíci +44

      And that's also the reason potaxies are fighting "fifes". It comes from "fifa" which is an adjective used to describe sexist guys that are really into soccer (it's important to remember the importance of soccer in Latin American culture). So "fifa" comes from the fifa soccer video game, that these guys tend to play a lot. This guy is a fifa! (Singular) -> This guys are fifas (plural) -> Fifes (plural and gender neutral).

    I'm not on tik tok bc I know I'll get addicted to it, but I've been consuming jiafei memes from around mid 2022 till now. I actually had no clue that people did the weird broken english thing. I had seen some people calling random asian women jiafei, and it left a bad taste in my mouth, but it wasn't common enough for me to really think about it much. Ig i found a relatively unproblematic side of jiafei memes.

      making fun of broken english isn't racist though ;-; broken english is funny and people make fun of white people's broken english with no problem (like french or italian). But suddenyl it is racist when you make fun of chinese people's broken english? No, someone speaking in a broken language is just funny. I am Turkish and we make fun of tourists speaking in a broken Turkish all the time. I am sure every country has this. It's just funny.

      @@denizkaragullu6239 There's a long history of Asians being mocked and stereotyped for their accents and broken English that IS rooted in Racism plus taking random Asian women and trying to turn them into Jiafei? There's a lot of clear Racism in some of these memes, to deny that is silly. I don't think every Jiafei meme is Racist but don't try to pretend lots of people weren't being weird about it and there are Racist undertones to some of the jokes and people's behaviours. There was also a lot of mocking of traditional Chinese culture and the songs too in the memes.

    • @alexish7139
      @alexish7139 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I'm Asian and specifically Chinese and although I can't speak for everyone, neither I nor people around me find these Jiafei memes racist at all. Ethnic Chinese people make fun of Chinese broken English all the time - that's why you get so many comedians like Steven He and Nigel Ng with exaggerated accents and intentionally bad grammar. "Mocking traditional culture" is also a huge statement - PRC Chinese netizens don't care about stereotypes at all and there are loads of Douyin and Bilibili memes in which they make fun of their own culture

    • @BlueShadow7777
      @BlueShadow7777 Před 10 měsíci

      @@alexish7139 I think it's important to say that not everyone operates on this logic. For example, a person might feel ok doing self-deprecating humor, but it would be very different if someone else made the same joke about them. And that's the same for many minority groups that also have self-deprecating humor or make fun of themselves or their own culture
      I'm saying this because I think there is a very thin line between laughing with someone and laughing at someone, and we have to be careful (in general)
