Rob was a heavyweight with a cruiserweight's move-set. Truly one of a kind
Many wanted RVD to face Rocker dude(on ppv and more main events).. only ECW man to get a WWE company world title.
Finally someone brings up ECW
ONE OF A KIND *guitar riff*
Definitely one of the most unique aspects about him during his era. He's told a story where he explains Sabu gave him that career advice when they were in Japan and Rob was still new.
To never let promoters label him as a cruiserweight because they would use the cruiserweight label to put him low on the card and not pay him as much.
FACTS
I met RVD one day in Venice Beach at the boardwalk. He took the time out of his day to talk to me and my friends even though we were purposefully trying to just say hi and leave him be. He stopped us and offered to take a picture with us. We were all very appreciative. Class act for sure. I'm glad he's going on the WWE HoF.
But then he wouldn't stop leaving you alone and became really pushy?
Of course it was at Venice beach lol, could there be a more RVD place. Amazing.
Man I want to smoke weed with rvd but he’ll I got to with one of the rascals*edit it’s trey the one who stayed with impact, from impact before he was with impact in my state of Washington at a small time wrestling show...he had no liter and I was smoking a cig so he offered a joint to me in return chill dude...a lot of wrestlers are cool but some are assholes
@@thecorona1784 he was literally at a pot shop.
I met him at a Dunkin' Donuts in a gas station in NY. Greeted each other and I left him alone to eat his croissant sandwich.
"RVD stood out, he was still unique."
And that's exactly why he's one of a kind.
Exactly!
Rob could really do everything and was genuinely likeable. He really was the whole fn show. I have no problem admitting I was a huge mark for Van Dam. I don't think I ever sat down during his entrance when I was a child.
Hey! Hey! HeyHeyHey!
@@walsh9080 I was really surprised, and kind of upset, when Jim said he didn't have good basics. He was trained by The Sheik and could keep up with guys like Angle, Benoit and Jericho; an Olympian and two graduates of Stu Hart's dungeon. When he did hardcore wrestling he used the gimmick of the match to elevate things he could do, or make them his own; not use foreign objects mindlessly to compensate for lack of training and technique.
@@scottishdanny2432 one of a kind!!
RVD has always been criminally underrated
He coulda been a superstar, he was so talented.
I'm sure he's happy, and he's not hurting for cash, so... I mean such is life.
@@iami3rian394 Rvd was a super star. He was wwe champion.
@@jeffreyross71 I'm talking like, The Rock, Stone Cold and Hogan. RVD isn't on that level, but he easily could've been, he just didn't care.
EDIT: Maybe megastar is a better word.
@@iami3rian394 his matches were way better than all of those men
@@iami3rian394 just because he isn't on that level doesn't mean he isn't a super star. Rvd was more over in his prime them anyone is on the current roster. Rvd just was never a guy who played politics.
The whole fuckin' show.
Mr. Monday Night
yea cool saying but false but gotta love it
Your god damn right Fess.
MISTER PPV RVD!!!
YEAH I HEAR THAT
Van Dam was the definition of unorthodox. The way he whipped guys, the way he hit the ropes, the way he threw strikes looked so completely different then anyone else.
Yet it was believable. He could have matches with Benoit, Angle, Eddie and some of the great technical kind of guys and you could believe it. He's a guy that didn't do the same kind of dive and do a ton of spots every match where you got bored of it like guys do today. He was so fun to watch
Hear me out.
He could wrestle with ANYONE. Snitsky's best match was with RVD, and it was easily three stars.
Let me repeat that. He had a three star match... with snitsky.
The rolling thunder
@@iami3rian394 Oh I hear ya on that for sure!
@@thnzxc it was a good match too, that's the most agonizing part.
Like... why bother, ya know? 5% effort from someone who could have a match would've turned that I to a 4 star, with even a modicum of chemistry. The premise was there....
I always wonder what an RVD vs Vader... maybe not series of matches but not a one off.
Bad timing, but I think that angle would've let them both look AMAZING. Maybe like an interference angle where they both get involved in the other's matches, with a one off on a PPV with plenty of time, and like, a raw rematch....
I dunno, but based on a three star with snitsky, they could've put on a clinic.
I'm not sure how RVD would respond to Vader being so stiff, and I'm not sure how Vader would respond to RVD being so sloppy.... but if they cooled those tensions, I think it could've been a thing which would've elevated them both.
RVD is the best "little guy" for stomping monsters, sheerly based on the "extreme" factor. Like yeah, vader is tough, but chair shot. = )
@@iami3rian394 Definitely like what you said. See RVD vs Vader would've been very interesting indeed. They'd probably be willing to stiff it up just enough to make a good sell, hopefully without taking too many liberties with each other.
How he got away with the 420 leg drop is hall of fame worthy on its own
You heard how he pitched it to vince? He explains it on a Kayfabe commentaries shoot. Its hilarious .
@@wce05308 yeah it is
@@wce05308 20 was him and Sabus combined shoe size was the pitch
Best Frogsplash award...its a good debate..
I remember it was said on commentary as well so I believed it too.
I met RVD after an ECW Arena show in July 2000. Very nice guy and was very appreciative of compliments. At the time, his wife Sonya just had the jet ski accident. I asked him if she was ok, he was very humble and thankful for my asking.
A former World Tag Team championship team is being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year:
RVD & Kane
Noticed that as well. I remember when they tag teamed. Made a good team imo
yea good observation i forgot.. Both did win that WWE company title also. ...once each
RVD to Kane -Of COURSE we’re gonna win this match with your Chokeslam and my Five Star Frog Splash; and Rolling Thunder.... and VanDamminator..... Vanterminator... spinning heel kicks.. did I mention you have the Chokeslam??
God Damn, remember that time they wrestled the Road Warriors and Hawk no sold the Five Star and the Chokeslam. Kane and RVD were pissed, and Vince refused to sign the Road Warriors afterward despite what Jim Ross wanted.
SO COOOL!!!!!
This thumbnail guy is next level talented.
Came to say this. It's so good, I can't handle it. = )
Yeah, RVD's all black singlet looks just like it does in real life.......
You must be new friend!
LMAO 🤣 🤣 🤣
@Boo boo stained Dunn ta dunn does he have commissions?
Notice how Jim doesn't make fun of RVD for doing flips and kicks all over the place?
Because he made them real, he knew how to tell a story with them, and knew how to sell.
Now you have entire rosters trying to imitate him, never understanding why he was always called One of a Kind.
It was convincing and realistic.. At times going for show over wins but still realistic and not looking fake.
His moves were done with a context ,not just for the sale of showing off athleticism
true, he always tried to sell everytime he did a frog splash
The one true break out star of the ECW/WCW alliance
Possibly because he isnt a mark.....
Probably the funniest wrestling personality who didn't try to be
Facts loooool
I know I’m in the minority, but I always thought Rob Van Dam was the greatest wrestler ever. To me, he was the complete wrestler. He had strength, agility, speed, he could fly, he could do hardcore, he could wrestle, he could promo, he had charisma. He had it all. He is underrated as Hell.
I'm with you on that front.
I didn't care for his promos - and clearly he didn't either, since he never gave a shit about the political side of the business. Whcih is probably why he was never pushed as far as I think he deserved.
When it came to skill, however? The dude was untouchable, as far as I'm concerned. He had the build of a heavyweight, but the speed and agility of a cruiserweight. His moveset was absolute best, and filled to the brim with cool shit. He could work a super entertaining match with anyone, especially if paired up with a fellow high-flying/hardcore style superstar. He always got the crowd hyped, regardless of being a face or a heel. Really good stuff.
Same here bro, RVD is the GOAT in my book. The best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.
I liked watching him and Benoit the most in the ring as far as moveset. But overall due to lack of promo there are other wrestlers I like better.
@@carbon.the.christ5626RVD had great promos. Nothing in common with benoit
I always thought of RVD as ECW's Stone Cold when I was watching wrestling as a kid in the late 90's. He was so over, the crowd went nuts and he always delivered.
RVD 4:20 says I just smoked your ass 💨
If RVD was Stone Cold, then Taz was The Rock. When RVD and Sabu would tag, you knew you were in for a rollercoaster ride!
RVD more like STONED cold

From the music of Pantera’s walk to the ring announcer saying Rob Van Dam I enjoyed those matches he had with Jerry Lynn shame we didn’t get the Mike Awesome match and the Justin Credible match for the ECW heavyweight championship

Literally in the ring and outside the ring 😂 RVD 420
Ive been higher 😎
RVD the whole F’n Show ...... Congratulations and Well Deserved ... 💯
His impersonation of Shawn Michael's along with his lazy eye is freaking spot on and hilarious!
In 2001 during the Invasion angle even when presented as a heel Van Dam was so over w the crowd. He got louder pops than Austin during that brief time. It was unreal how popular he was
He was very entertaining to watch during his prime.
He can still go... he's not RVD, but he's still got it. I mean, he's got less of it.. he's still twice as good as most of the current roster.
@@iami3rian394 he's older.. You lose a step or two but you never forget how to dance..

One the saddest moments for me, was Rob and Sabu getting busted for weed on the road not long after he won the WWE championship title. Worst fucking timing.
The amount of weed they had wasn't even that much, the cop that pulled them over didn't watch wrestling , different times we live in

I was at a TV taping for ECW in Toledo just before they got on TNT. They screwed up our seats, so the usher brought us over to a slightly past middle aged couple kinda sitting by themselves. The woman was holding a little dog. My wife started talking to her about the dog and how she brought it in...turns out it was RVD's parents. Super nice people
RVD is one of my favourites he was the whole fucking show the matches with Jerry Lynn were just awesome and the longest reigning ECW Television Champion and also enjoyed his matches with Sabu and Eddie Guerrero

Really shocked to hear jc likes rvd because of the ecw yrs. RVD really is a legend and absolutely deserves a spot in the hof.
It’s all about the quality of the work... corny has no tolerance for bads.
RVD was a great wrestler and entertainer in his wwf days. He looks genuinely happy these days and still in good shape for his age. Him and Riddle would be special
No way Riddle can top RVD.. team could work in some tournament-1 time deal(WCW Bro man as manager-Team BroSKEE) but 1 on 1 i see a 20 second battle.
Hope RVD does not get Busted Driving with Kush on the Day of his HOF Induction ... 👀

RVD is a good egg. Does his thing without apologizing and didn’t play locker room politics. And still ring ready at 50.
RVD’s unique skill set and moves are hard to be duplicated-you just don’t see that nowadays and what made him so over was his ability to pull it off without being sloppy and weird.
Another well deserved pick, he was one of my favourites, such a unique style especially for the time.

RVD imo aside from The Dudley Boys was 1 of the most over ECW alumni that was incredibly over in WWE . The pop that he would get was incredible . Though it was short lived he was the 1st to hold the WWE and ECW World Titles simultaneously and will never be done again . Plus his ECW TV Title reign was almost 2 years long but an injury prevented that. His wars with Sabu and his classic matches with Jerry Lynn are the stuff of legend . He was The Whole F'n Show and he deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame .
Who could forget ECW One Night Stand '06! LEGENDARY!
I was just a kid but i still remember it like it was yesterday! Rvd winning the wwe championship infront of the loyal rabbid ecw fan base must have been one of a kind💯
WWE needs to slow the F down they are putting a whole ton of wrestlers that can easily have the headlinings speeches all one . This can also mean that something we're unaware of is coming .
Now that two-time inductions have been normalized they probably don't care anymore.
They got the best class of all time coming during a pandemic year 😂😂, NWO, Biscoff, Bulldog, RVD, Kane, JBL, Liger and Batista
I still don’t understand why Bella twins and Khali are in there
Batista is out, he asked to be removed because he can’t make the ceremony since he is out of the country filming a Marvel film. He wants to go in another year when he is available and likely a crowd.
One of my favorites. Legitimately someone that deserves to be in the HoF for his charisma and incredible ring skills alone. Van Dam always blew me away as a kid, and still does. There’s really no one like him.
Got to meet him at L.A. comic con years ago mad laid back, you could legit have a convo with him for hours if you can

RVD was in absolute gem of a person. I met him in person 3 times. And every time he was the best guy ever. If anyone deserves to be in the hall of fame it's RVD!!! One of a kind.
RVD vs Eddie Guerrero in a ladder match for the IC title is still my favorite match of all time.
The one with Christian is really good too.
Had the misfortune of being around at the same time as one of the golden ages of professional wrestling and still made an impact which shows how good he was, could have been used better but can't really blame anybody as many great superstars had to take a lesser role due to the depth of the roster but did amazing whenever put in the spotlight!
RVD was one of my favorites but I gave up on watching wrestling when WCW and ECW went away, so I never even saw him wrestle in the WWE. I’m glad to hear he ended up having a hall of fame level career.
I thought Jim was gonna say "Could you imagine Rob Van Dam vs. Tim Horner?"
Everyone is missing the point with RVD. He was the FIRST to credibly use a pre-MMA martial art style effectively in the ring. As in jumping spinning kicks, high kicks (outside of drop kicks), etc. NOBODY did it well before him. Glacier? No. Zbysko? No. Nobody in the 70s or 80s at all.
So pay RVD respect for what he did in bring a realistic karate/taekwondo style into pro wrestling. That alone is HOF material
RVD is the whole fucking show!!!
Ok so book RVD vs RVD and fire everyone and lets see if RVD can battle himself for 3 hours and keep it classic.
Brian is right about RVD being one of the last unique stars. The only one I can think of that stands out with their own style is Nakamura. But they're burying him too.
Nakamura isn't a star. Everytime he gets a belt he's rarely seen until he loses it. Pretty sure he's also the only guy to win a royal rumble and never become champion since they started giving out title shots
