      No actually it was still good till about 2006. After that when Angle, Heyman and a couple others left, it started going down the shitter. Once John Cena began his unbearable reign which for no fucking reason lasted for over a year, that was the end of all kinds of sense, logic and quality.
      It wasn't until 2011 and the Summer of Punk that we could call it good again. But even that they screwed up after 2 great months. So yeah.

      Remember when he said the key to a good con is laying a foundation of truth before you flip it on your mark? That's what he was doing when he said that, ironically.
      I love the guy, but he's a conman and very open about it. His new gimmick is this, Jim Cornette: angry wrestling historian podcaster. He will absolutely exaggerate or even outright snow you if he thinks he's putting eyes on the product (the podcast) and butts in the seats (buds in the ears.)
      What do you think has changed about his entire profession of lying to people to get them captivated enough they hand over more money to continue being lied to? He said it right to your face in a hundred ways and you still don't believe him, because he's that good.
      Did he respect the "real" fans when he waxes on about how you know the money was going to roll in for real if you saw somebody get incensed enough by saying truly terrible things about their home and loved ones to take a swing at a cop trying to get to you, in an effort to defend their home or values, in a situation he helped orchestrate and knew was horse hooey, counting on the target of the con to take it seriously enough he missed his kid's next birthday?
      No. He'll say essentially, "I got those people so hard with my lies they left me no choice but to smack a few of them in the face with a horseshoe, even after I had their money." and laugh uproariously about it
      If you're not taking Jim with a grain of salt, you're not listening. I'm sure it amuses him the degree to which he can spell out the game to you right to your face and still have you fished in. That sort of thing generally amuses a born grifter.

    Cornette knows, and I don't know why he won't come out and just say it, the reason for all of this is Vince getting around paying insurance and setting up retirement plans and benefits for the athletes. If it's classified as a professional sport then it falls under the regulations that come with it. It's the reason Vince came out and told the public things were scripted (read as fake) and wants it to be called sports entertainment instead of pro wrestling.

    • @bravetitangrizzly
      @bravetitangrizzly Před 4 lety +10

      Marc Carran actually he’s right. The main reason Vince put out the now famous “sports entertainment” ad was so he wouldn’t have to deal with the athletic commission and save money.

    • @bravetitangrizzly

      Marc Carran no, it was 100% about saving money.

    • @bravetitangrizzly
      @bravetitangrizzly Před 4 lety +2

      Marc Carran I deleted my very first comment where I agreed with you, because I looked up some info on it. Before Vince did the ‘sports entertainment’ ad, the athletic commission was treating WWF and their wrestlers as real sports and competitors, even tho they knew full-well that everything was predetermined. But the commission was making a lot of money off WWF, and the commission wasn’t going to go out of their way to un-fill their pockets. So Vince got tired of having to go through them every time he had a show, so he came out and said it’s entertainment. What other reason would Vince have to go on tv and say, ‘hey this is all fake.’? There’s no other reason to do so, everybody knew it wasn’t real. There was no need at all to announce this....unless, you’re tired of dealing with the athletic commission treating everyone of your events as a real UFC fight.

    • @Kaneseb
      @Kaneseb Před 4 lety +1

      @Marc CarranHe's right as far as how it was treated by athletic commissions. Since the whole concept was that it was real and all of the talent followed kayfabe and protected the business, the commission kind of went along with it and treated it as just what they were saying it was...a legit sport. Therefore, they had to follow commission rules and pay whatever and so on and so forth. Back then, it was a price willingly paid by promoters in order to further protect the business. If anyone said it was fake, they could claim they were legit because of things such as the commission being up their ass. Also, the commission from each state most likely went along with it because it was free money. What were the promoters going to do back then, claim it was all fixed and potentially ruin their very business? So, in a way, the commission were kind of extorting money out of the promoters! Vince finally had the balls/brains/whatever to say "Screw this, we're not going by your rules and being subject to your fines, etc" and came clean about the business. At that time I think people were on to it enough so it wasn't as big of a deal compared to if he had done it a few years earlier. I think you're confusing what Vince did to the commissions with Jesse wanting unions.

      I think I know. WCW was wrestling, ROH, NJPW, now AEW. To him, anyone in his company is above those promotions. Anything they did there means nothing. To him personally just how well a side suplex is executed, or a half crab after means zero. It's about "Can you smelllll, what the Rock is cooking." Nothing else matters. Anything that ties it to the actual sport to him makes it too slow. Compare that to the young lions in NJPW. Just watch it once. Any young lion, any decade. They all got big after, but all started the same way. 1980s pro wrestling drilled into them. Basic pro wrestling. Nothing flashy and fancy yet. To me, AEW needed to emulate it in the U.S. as much as possible. They won't beat the trash by being worse trash. They need to be a clear alternative. The name itself was a horrible idea. You almost knew who was going to be the show. It's not too late though, they need to rethink some things that's all.

      @@dodesskiy1 Exactly! I also feel like AEW feels too similar to WWE in terms of their presentation and even writing. When I first heard about the company I thought and hoped it would be different, but it wasn't. I also think another reason why Vince dislikes the term "wrestling" is that he sees himself as the Walt Disney of wrestling. And has always sought to have his company seen as more than just a wrestling company and instead an entire entertainment giant similar to a Disney.

    Some of you may be too young to remember this but Vince started changing terms due to lawsuits. From the steroid trials to the world wildlife federation, he has learned to try to avoid these problems by changing terms. That only accounts for a little over half the terms. The other half definitely seems like has been trying to erase anything to do with professional wrestling.

      No no, I watched 1 documentary prior to the WWE thing. No, he was saying it before that, making fun of Ted Turner. That lawsuit was an excuse. I think this is why he was eager to get rid of Bret Heart. That's way too much of a pro wrestler, even the later version. Had to go.
