You can actually manually shift a C5 corvette's automatic transmission to make it faster.
It also helps if the C5 auto has the performance differential. Goes from 2.73 to 3.24 gears
May ask if this is your father and if he used to do a TV like 20 years ago,??
I’m from Middle East Jordan 🇯🇴, I went to university in USA Texas and I believe I’ve seen him on car show on television, he looks so familiar but I wanted to confirm
You guys have a great channel we support your channel from Middle East

Thought this was apose to be a muscle Cara v6 or 4 cylinder isnt the reason they say muscle cars means v8s lol
A microwave may cook faster than a charcoal grill, but no one wants a microwaved burger.
True that but try buying a Chevy Bolt🤔
Nothing like regurgitating a lame comment from the internet.
@@TFLcar If the same subsidies were available on affordable gas cars, demand might be high too.
@@amazingjason455 Oil production from federal lands and waters provides approximately 24% of total U.S. oil production.
Highly agree. Cars may be getting faster, but they seem to be removing the human/machine synergy that there should be, at least for car guys/gals.
The Camaro was exactly as expected. The 8 speed using the turbo's low end torque to get off the line quick, but the Vette's power reels it back in up top even with the ancient 4L60E slushbox of sadness.
Slushbox of sadness 😂. Idk why that was so funny to me

@@deadlybladesmith3093 Old 4 speeds are pretty awful in stock form...I'd say it's an accurate description, lol. When you go that far back, the manuals are usually quicker.
@Grinders and Gears Yeah, I have a 96 LT1 Vette and the transmission is the main thing holding it back from being faster.
Yea makes me wish they had a manual for the C5 in this race
I might be a Ford fan, but oh man, I was rooting for the mighty LS1 like a Chevy boy! Love the C5.

The Camaro is impressive but my god, that V8 sound and the way it just pulls and pulls at the end will never ever get old.
I really enjoy these old vs new drag races.
Imagine the Hertz rental guy watching this video thinking "I knew they were going to race this Camaro"
its wild that a "base car" has 275 hp these days
Base genesis v6 is 311 so many options
The problem here is using boosted cars at this elevation, the Camaro would have compensated to a degree so while the corvette lost 15%~ the camaro might have lost no more than 5% which makes these races way closer than it should be lmao
I own 2 C5 Corvettes. A 2002 Vert Auto, and an 04 Z06 (All Z06's are manual) Something is definitely not right with that 4L60E C5. It may partly be the altitude, but my stock 02 C5 Auto runs way faster than 15's in the 1/4 mile.
The dad launched the C5 horribly . It sounded like he didn't floor until he was way off the line. It should have beat the Camaro easily like it did in the roll race.
I didn't see the front end lift like my C5 auto or not it shifts at 6 thousand RPM maybe because it only has 51000 miles and nitrous but I have not used it yet that's the way I bought it but long tube headers do help
14's is hardly way faster
He was asleep on the line for sure. A bone stock C5 should be in the mid 13s, low 14s at the worst.
@@djmlax89 Not at 5,000 feet above sea level. Less dense air at that altitude.
This was actually a good race. For a 4 cylinder, the new Camaro didn't do half bad. Sure it lost, but that doesn't make it slow. Personally, I would've compared it to a base '69 Camaro RS.
It's a heavier rag top too
@Mister Secret Oh, yeah true! That's the only reason it was heavier. If it were a hard top, it would've at least tied with the C5.
There is no 4-cylinder Camaro ever built
Lmfao 4 celender Camaro
@BabyGirl-kh5hm my friend had a 550hp 4 cylinder csmaro. Beats a lot of V8s
Impressive performance for the bolt, but the question is: after a few drag runs, how much range was left on the Bolt? Hopefully, enough to get home.
I would still want the Corvette no matter what. Let's hear that Bolt rev it's engine at the line again? After a little tuning, I'm sure I'd enjoy driving the old V-8 Corvette much more than a current I-4 Camaro.
Fun race! I've owned both of these cars. Both performance bargains for the price.
15.4 in a ls1? The vette needs a driver mod.
They are a mile above sea level but yes I agree. These autos run 13 seconds or LESS at sea level.
It's a auto...
It’s a 4 speed automatic with 2.75 gears. There is literally no way to drive it faster. You couldn’t slip the tires up here at elevation if you launched on butter 🤦♂️
Thinks an auto will magically go faster w/ a different driver. 🤣
Them 2.75 are slugs.
For $800 more than the 4 banger the V6 is a much better option. Mine ran 13.8 bone stock.
The 3.6 gets shit on all the the time but ive had great luck with them.
And my Scat shits on all of you 😂
That depends very highly on whether or not you plan to keep it stock, boosted engines are a lot easier to get more power out of. You can take a 3 decade old 4g63 stock turbo car putting out 200 and take it up to 350 for like a grand or 2, 16g, tune and fuel and it's there. Someone asked me about a turbo 4 Mustang or a 6, and I told her to go with the 6 if she didn't care about modding or going fast, simpler and cheaper to run, but a dead end if you want to go faster.
It wouldn't run 13s where they are - probably 15s there 😂
@@grindersandgears3445 I'm aware of how turbo engines work. You are not aware that the chevy 2.0 engine is a very unreliable engine tuned once you push the power.
It’s been about the experience for me. I had a 92 camaro 5.0 that couldn’t get out of its own way, but loved that car! Sounded so good and was fun to throw around. Then had a 3.6 challenger that was so much more fun to drive than my current 5.7 awd charger. The auto stick was way more engaging due to its lower power. The charger I try doing the same things and going way to fast getting out of second. But the rumble of the hemi is so nice. I’d love having that vette for the sound and old school driving, yet would so drive a convertible 4cyl camaro. I can’t weigh in on evs yet as I haven’t driven one.
Sorry but your Dad's right on this one. The C5 is the best performance per dollar car so far.
And don't underestimate that 4 speed. What hurts the C5 is the Rear Gear Ratio.
Bump it up to a minimum of 3.45 and then you got something to really write home about.
The Camaro Z28 and SS of the same year had a 3.45 Rear Gear standard.
When we held up signs saying stop making V6 Camaros we didn't mean make a turbo 4 Camaro! 😐 People don't buy Camaros for reliability and gas mileage. People buy Camaros because they look good their fast and loud.
I'm taking the old LS1 vette for sure
The slowest available Corvette of the time, being a 4 speed auto, with 2.73 gears, and convertible. The NA V8 is also much more effected being 1 mile above sea level, compared to the turbocharged Camaro. The Camaro being an 8 speed auto is also the fastest transmission option for that model year. I think the Vette did pretty good considering.
Yea try doing it in Texas with a 6 speed hardtop vette ....
The corvette was not a convertible. But the camaro was.
2.73 gear? how does anyone manage to do a burnout with that
@pontiacGXPfan EASY! You could burn the tires off the car if you wanted. (I had a 98 C5 Targa with 2.73 gears in 1999 when I was stationed in Hawaii). Optional gears were 3.23 if I remember correctly.
@@dundonrl the 6-speed Vettes all had the 3.42 axle even with the shorter first second and third gears
Chevy should have put the 2.7 from trucks into the camaro, that would be an insane little ripper
I love those C5 Corvettes in Forza but I immediately swap out the transmission to the racing one just bc that 4 speed is attrocious. I do the same for all the 80's to early 2000's GM cars
Irl all you have to do is put a stall in them. A stock LS1/4l60e with a 3600 rpm stall will be a little faster than the 6-speeds. It flips the script!
I own a 4cylinder Camaro and it’s a different experience. It pulls beautifully and as a daily it gives you a sports car fast experience that doesn’t destroy your bank account. I’ve seen plenty of comments from people who went from a 4cylinder Camaro to the SS and they actually miss there 4cylinder every now and then when they think about it because of the unique way it accelerates/pulls. It’s its own thing all together. Not meant to be compared to a v8.
next time bring the mustang ecoboost, i have heared a lot about ithem i wana see their perfomance. people say they can destroy most perfomance vehcles on the road
People make fun of the 4 & 6 cylinder Camaro's and Mustangs of today, but thing is they would smoke most cars we thought were fast when I was in high school. Go drive a v6 stang or maro from the 90's and then drive a modern one and you will see why they are impressive to people my age. They would even out perform most of the old muscle cars. But not look or sound as good...
15.4 in a C5? Sandbagging for content smh
Yes. That's a mid 13 second car at 105mph.
Exactly. Stop playin’.
You guys must be deaf. Its at 1 mile above sea level.
Still would love to see the 3.6 camaro go against some older cars.
Idk why GM doesn’t put the new truck 4 cylinder in camaro maybe they sell more.
Great stuff
Thank you
@Azu Za’s
For sure
Tune it make more boost there getting around 450-500 hp and torque out of that little 2.7.
Be a great camaro id buy one for sure.
My wife daily drives our 2018 3.6 RS its a fun car but more torque would make much more fun. To bad were probably never going to see it though. The V8 just doesn’t make sense for a daily driver for us to much to buy and fuel mileage isn’t good enough for us.
The wholesome father son relationship here is really something. Imagine getting paid to drive amazing cars with your dad.
Well, that should help 4-cylinder Camaro sales 😂
Love comparisons like this!
I had the bolt EUV as a loaner car and I was quite impressed. It's definitely noticeable that it's throttled from stop but as a daily driver it does everything you want.
The C5 has the biggest advantage here that doesn't get talked about enough, no car payment compared to the other two. The biggest financial mistake is a new car, it depreciates as soon as you sign the papers.
Meh so you buy slow depreciators. For example I recently purchased a 2023 XSE V6 Camry. Will it depreciate? Yes! But will I still get 66%of my money back in 4-5 years with average miles driven. Probably.
@@sammyjammy6647 Perhaps, but a smarter move is to buy the 4-5 year old Camry outright, with no payment and lower insurance and taxes. This is part of the reason I retired at 48 and am financially stronger 12 years after retirement. To each his own but a new car is always a financial mistake.
@@NotOnYourLife there’s another saying, when you buy used you’re buying someone else’s problem. I like new unless it’s a cheap used Camaro or Mustang that I can knock around. I only owe 9k on the Camry. 3.99% for 48months. I traded in a 2021 RAV4 hybrid that I had for a little over 18 months. I paid 35k for the RAV4 and they gave me 35k when I traded it in. I’m 53. I know what I’m doing sometimes. Just be sensible. I’m not buying $ 100,000 cars. Anyways our time here is short. Enjoy
All this may be true...but few things in life make you feel the same as driving away in a brand new vehicle
@sammyjammy6647 you are but if you have a good head om your shoulders about cars then those problems seem insignificant since they are so small in the first place. Bought a Mercedes with 300k miles and fixed up a couple of things. Runs smooth and cheap insurance. Helping me save money for more expensive newer cars🤷♂️
👍 great video. Roman, I like ur metric about performance per $ .Andre, do ya'all factor price in the Off Road Index ? That may change things up a bit.
Hey those 4 banger Camaros are fun to drive when they're a manual. My mom has a 2019 and it's been a blast! Reliable, good fuel economy, zippy, and it still looks cool
Randy Pobst approved. All Camaros are fun (I have a 2020 LT1 6-speed), it's a shame they're discontinuing them.

My chick just bought a 2013 Cadi ATS 2.0T with the same engine as the turbo 4 Camaro, and I massively underestimated it on the test drive😂 thing is actually pretty fast lol and you don't have to deal with the stigma of driving a 4cyl muscle car🤷♂️😂
What a fun father and son activity!
Which exhaust do you have on the c5? I also have one and thinking of upgrading exhaust system
No need to turn off the A/C even in that old Vette, at full throttle the PCM will disengage the compressor.
same with my old probe gt... it could be that way with almost all cars since.
I did not know that!
I had a Bolt and it was lot of fun, especially around town as it zips quickly and quietly with no drama. Maneuver into any place you want and it is a bargain. I had an 02 Z-28 6M with T-Tops. That was a lot of fun too. The trick with the Camaro was that it was obvious to onlookers like the police if you were being aggressive, around town it was big and not much fun and the manual is not a lot of fun in stop and go traffic. I think there is not a clear cut winner, they are different cars for people looking for different things. The Bolt is a bargain, a lot of fun and fun you can easily enjoy year round anywhere but unlike the other 2 it is not a lot of fun to look at. The Corvette sounds great, looks great but missing the newer technology. The 4cyl Camaro is not fast by Camaro standards but it is convertible which is fun even going slow, looks great and does not break the bank for modern reliability and warranty.
Convertible is a lot heavier than the standard coupe Camaro.
Yes, it's a 275 pound weight difference coupe-to-convertible for the Camaro.
Looking forward to Andre's Colorado/Canyon drag video! Still awaiting delivery of my Trail Boss...
That looked like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing ❤

My stock 2002 c5 auto runs a 13.6 quartermile at 102 mph in 2nd gear. So for this to run a mid 15 is concerning.
Throw a few mods at the vette and it will keep up with the modern ss trims.
I never realized light to light that the C5 would get smoked like that from a newer 4 banger Camaro. Technology is cool
Corvettes of that era have what GM called Competition Driving Mode. I think you had to press the traction control button two times or press and hold it. Something like that.
I can confirm. I just tried this a few days ago with my 2010 SS. It's basically launch control to help prevent spinning at launch.
Just double tap the traction off button until you see a messaging saying, "competition mode." An orange light will pop up on the dash too.
@@Fade2BlackSS I don't think the C5s had that, and I'm pretty sure Roman had TC off and was brake torquing the Vette off the line. A 4L60E is not a performance transmission haha.

I’m genuinely nauseous at the fact that the race was that close. The I4 Camaro is a trashcan that shouldn’t exist and the C5 is a legend.
It’s impressive that a Trashcan did that well, but I’d rather eat my own toenails than buy an I4 Camaro. Doesn’t even make 300HP. 💀
So, if you guys ever get a chance, test the 6th generation V6 Camaro. It is quite a bit faster than the four cylinder, and very different feeling. 335 horsepower, 3300 lbs; 13.6 quarter mile stock. You would assume the direct competition for the V6 Camaro is the EcoBoost, but it is quite a bit faster than the EcoBoost mustangs. It's actually about 0.3 seconds faster than an RT challenger. How do I know this? Well...I've got one lol. I was in mexico with my 09 mustang gt and ended up getting pulled by an lgx Camaro. Bought one with the zf eight-speed automatic and I've been consistently surprised.
the 4 banger Mustang is a lot like the Camaro here, off the line they skedaddle but are reeled in easy within the quarter mile.
Most street races are over in 1/8 or less so the 4 banger may embarass a few newer v8s especially the 60 foot mark
Love my C5. I promise it will smoke that Camaro off the line at sea level.
Wait, so my 2017 V6 Accord Coupe is faster in the quarter mile than an entry level Camaro? Interesting.
Oh, wait, they're at altitude...
At this point, I'll get behind any power plant that still burns fuel. No matter the number of cylinders.
Tommy looking back at the volt like what heck!!! Its still right there....? haha
Interesting comparo of different tech. Amazing how many people dont understand this type of comparison.
Amazed at the consistent ability to get the worst 1/4 mile times ever recorded for these cars.
Altitude in CO
Right? I've neeeever heard of a C5 corvette running 15.40s in the quarter mile. I'm also from Texas, so we don't have altitude, but I still don't believe that would make a 2 SECOND DIFFERENCE in most Corvette's 1/4 time.
What is with the altitude crap? Are they carbureted? Anything with electronic fuel injection will compensate for the difference automatically if equipped with a mass airflow sensor.
@mikee2923 You do realize there's less oxygen the higher you go right???
@@cooldaddyslick6869 Yes I do. But is the oxygen content of the atmosphere that low to cause a car to lose enough power to add 2-3 seconds to its quarter mile time? My point is that unlike a carburated engine that would have to be adjusted or possibly rejetted any modern automobile engine with a mass airflow sensor should be able to compensate for the difference in oxygen content in the air. While I do understand that the performance would suffer slightly since it won’t be able to deliver quite as much fuel due to the lower oxygen content, but is the oxygen content that much lower that it would cause a car that is known to run a mid 13 second quarter mile to run mid to high 15 seconds? I could understand maybe a half second or so but not much more than that. I have been to a drag strip 1 time and got better times out of a bone stock TPI equipped 89 Formula 350. But that wasn’t a high altitude area and averaged a flat 15 second time on my runs by just flooring the gas on the green and bypassing the burnout box. Would it have ran in the 17 second range there? Either they are the world’s worst drag racers or there’s something wrong with the Corvette.
Nice video, the corvette got some power in it hey ,still want to try out a drag with camaro fitted with a VictorRacing active , i think its going to surprise me
What exhaust system are you running on the c5?

Great video!
First rule of ridiculous: A 4-banger Camaro.
Yes, I realize they've been selling 4, 6 and 8 cylinder Camaros for many years, but I also believe they should only come in 8 cylinder versions.
That's not really good for business nor is it desirable. Majority of Camaros bought are base model 4 cylinders and v6s; but the 6th gen v6 is 335 hp, 13.5 to 13.7 stock. From experience, the new v6 is worth it merely for the enjoyment in being faster than the RT challenger and charger.
And also, the first Camaro ever had a 6 cylinder in it. That's what it was.
I agree 100percent! However I would also guess that you are at least 50 years old (I am 61) our age group has dieing ideas such as NO 4door hot rods! , 6 cylinder cars should be seen & NOT heard! , Black rims? Are you serious! We are no longer in the majority we are on our way out my friend.
The guy in the red Corvette was embarrassingly snoozing off the line.
I'm glad dad took it, being from that era, the Vette was always the car we wanted. Never underestimate the power of the Vette.
This is a perfect example as to why nobody buys a Camaro and that they are discontinued. It’s an absolute embarrassment what Chevy did to that car.
That was awesome. I guess numbers don't tell the whole story. I feel that the corvette has a higher fun to drive factor.

@Jason Jones Yeah, I understand trying to add a little suspense to the video, but you gotta fake it a little better, lol.
This wasn't a real drag race either.
Good Race, I also have both of these cars but my Camaro is not a 4 cylinder, I have a SS 1le and a 03 C5 corvette. Hands down the Camaro will
Take the old c5 from a dig. But the corvette might be neck to neck from 100 to 140 I would say.
The 30mph roll race is the absolute perfect spot to roll race if you have a 4l60 trans, like the Corvette. Puts you in the middle of the powerband in 1st gear. I know because it's the same archaic trans in my 2012 Silverado with the 4.8l, which btw, paired with the 3.23 rear diff they put in this thing, seems like a bad joke from GM. Lol.
Either way, as old and lacking as they are compared to new, 30 speed transmissions 😂, you couldn't have picked a better roll race for it. Try it again at 50 or 55, the Vette wouldn't have taken it so handily.
I hate watching these because they never use the paddle shifters, we all know if you use those your faster 😂😂
I love the C5.
Good stuff!!! It's the 80s and 90s again! Id prefer the Iron Duke over any 4 banger today. Seems todays 4 bangers are Harbor Freightish (

@@TFLcar because manufacturing of cars is at an all time low. First it started with the chip shortage. Now its due to manufacturers slowing production to keep profits up on the limited inventory. Thank you for posting this Mr.
Without a doubt. An old LS1 of course!!!!
I had a Chevy Camaro turbo and was definitely a great car besides the transmission always being rough and banging and jerking.. I think because it was the 8 speed that had a lawsuit.
I also love the father and son duo 😊
My 2016 had the torque converter shudder problem. GM put the wrong fluid in them from the factory, and their "fix" was to triple flush the system and put the correct transmission fluid in it, provided the customer had stopped driving the car and didn't do permanent damage to the transmission. They charged me $650 at the dealer to do this, even though it was GM's mistake, but it did fix mine and it gave no more problems
We had that 8 spd in our ‘15 Z06, what a horrible transmission… absolutely awful in normal driving. If you hammered it, no problem, but if you hammered it often, you’ll be in jail.
That Corvette would do much better with a 6 speed manual...
I do believe that these are meant for 2 totally different target demographic. The v4/v6 Camaro is best suited for tuners that were previously into JDM and euro v6 sports cars such, while the v8 is best suited for old school muscle car guys.
I’m a young guy so no surprise I belong to the v4/v6 tuner sport car demographic. To each their own.
Small correction: it has an inline 4 engine. V4 is only used on motorcycles
@@trevorshark16 true man
@@Me-eb3wv I don't think so. The inline 4 and v6 model muscle cars have always been for those people who want to drive a cool car, but aren't car enthusiasts. You see people all the time who will say that anything other than a v8 in a muscle car is sacrilegious and others who will deride anything that is an automatic, but most people are just completely oblivious to all of that and they're just happy having something a little more unique to drive to work in than an SUV or something.
Another great video
you have to hold traction mode off for 10 seconds btw to fully turn of traction (i4) rather than just tapping it
The engineering on those 4 cylinders is way better than people are talking about. It's out of place in a Camaro but it would have been great for a lighter car more like what we see with Subaru or Honda.
I'd have the Camaro, I like the look of them. It's nice to have some performance but I don't care what is the fastest, that's not why I buy a car. Someone always has a faster car, I like cars that get me to work, put a smile on face and preferably be something I enjoy looking at on the driveway.
It's always more fun driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow
Well and honestly to me in driving I value acceleration much more than top-end speed. For that the Camaro seemed to do better in this test.
@@neilis2405 A manual C5 post 2001 will blow the doors off a 4cyl Camaro, not even close.
@@itsjamilagain That maybe but my original point was, how much power do you actually need. Just enough to put a smile on my face is enough for me, I don't care if other cars are faster than mine but of course I'd take the manual C5, it's a manual, there is no competition for that amount of fun but I wouldn't be buying it because it's faster.
I think the point I was making is I'm not in a race, I'm driving to work, visiting friends and family or going for a drive in the countryside and I'm in the UK, tight winding roads here. Miata/MX5's are driving heaven here.
I wish manufacturers wouldn’t limit torque so much, my wife’s ionic 5 is the same way. It feels kinda slow off the line and around 20-30 it gets full power even in sport mode. My volt is the opposite, if I brake torque it will blow the tires off and it falls off hard at about 50mph.
Pretty sure the torque limits in some EVs is to protect the drivetrain from the instant torque. They don't want a bunch of warranty claims from people blowing up differentials and driveshafts from launching their EVs.
Never thought I’d be impressed with a 4 Cylinder Camaro. And I was right
Theses guys really go out of their way to make V8 cars look bad. Every single time.
Yes Matt, you saw through our cunning plan to only test cars at one mile above sea level. We actually live in Florida and drive to Colorado just to drag race to make the V8 look bad. If there was only a way to force more air into the engine to make up for the higher altitudes. 🤔
That’s the liberal way.
I pity every 4-cylinder camero owner even more that i did before.
EV haters are also 4cyl haters so no minds were changed today, LOL.
I hate EV cars. I like real v8 cars.
I wonder if he turn off the traction control on the c5? .
I have a 1998 c5 and from a dig mine takes off faster then the one in the video.
Oooo heavy drop top too, Im excited, this is what youtube needs...
Can’t beat that v8 sound
"He took off immediately " - every guy with a turbo
Stock Camaro 🔥🔥
That little future buddie 🔥🔥
Cool! I loved it when my 1995 Mustang Gt with a 347 beat the snot out of a 2013 Camaro V8. Long live old muscle
Lol I'm a 6th gen Camaro owner; you Ford stroker guys are nuts I believe you lol I never trust a "just a 347 nothin special" guy
The convertible is the heaviest camaro you can buy. And it was still impressive , but I'd like to think my c5 does better 😂. (Probably not)
Now can you guys get a v6 camaro (not convertible) , and do the same?
