Jay Leno is the first corvette owner to actually have a rare corvette
No
That statement makes no sense and is logically impossible.
Yeah cause there are used car lots full of 63 split windows, c3, c4 ZL1 cars…….
@wyskass861 honestly not really. I swear when I'm looking at corvettes at show, every corvette is 1 of 1. Or rare
@@IainWigglesworth So it was a sarcastic statement then?
2 things i love about Jay
1 hes down to earth
2 HE ACTUALLY DRIVES HIS CARS
.....and he doesn't let you know his political leanings! He's down to earth, fun to watch and genuine!
Right
Look I’ll let you make out with me ok? Just stop asking me already ! I’ll do it!! 😚
@@TheUsmc0802 to be fair, i dont think a sissy liberal would be this fond of gas guzzling sports cars so its kind of implied
@@da_poopoo_dealer3152well then you're in for a shock because he's been very forward about not being a conservative and never voting republican. He may have not outright said he's liberal, but a lot of things point to it including his love of cars and the advancement in automotive tech.
That "two year evaporative issue" had me shaking my head. I had a built 2003 Z06 as a daily until 2016 and spent three years chasing the P0442 code with no luck. I went to two dealerships, countless shops (including Corvette specialists) and no one could figure it out. Finally I got ahold of the engineer who designed the fuel system and he told me instantly that I had a nick somewhere in the threads of my gas cap. Five minutes, and a few dollars, later and three years of cussing and pulling my hair out was over. Got to love the hobby.
what happened to it
Yikes!!😵💫
you must be dumb or new to cars thats the first thing you do change the gas cap on any evap issue. ie: 2 cars with evap issues so far
Ummm or just throw headers/cam/blower/meth @ or & forget about the “code”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have a 04Z. Thanks for the reality check!
The C5 Z06 is one of the most underrated cars from the modern era. Manual only, incredible handling, light, inexpensive (to own and run), big spare part market, exotic styling, 911 GT3 like handling. This car has everything. And it was just the beginning of an era. What the current Z06 can do is beyond amazing.
The C5 Z06 was my dream car since I was about 10 years old and just a couple months ago I was finally able to make that dream come true! Videos like this make me love my car even more! I love Jay Leno’s love and appreciation for cars!
Literally same here haha mine is silver as well!
@@prestononeal4584 awesome man! I hope you’re enjoying it as much as I am! I almost settled for a base C6 last summer and I’m so glad I was patient and waited! The C5Z is something else! Nothing like it.
Congrats on your ZO6! Welcome to the club.
i like everything about the Z06 except the look so i got a coupe back in march 2020 :)
The Z06 is an amazing car and worth everything you spend on it. You'll never find a better sports car than the c5 z06. 😮😅😊
Tell me about your specific car? 🧐
I love it when jay shows one of his own cars, but still has a guest on to talk about it. the 2 aspects of the 'leno' experience which make these the best kinds of videos
I know more people who had a C5 Z06, got a C6 or C7 & went back to a C5 Z06 again than I should. That’s how good it is
525 hp in 2002 is nuts, only a handful of production cars doing that back then. Love the front end design, I prefer the stock rear though. Its a really cool car for sure!
The original motor was an LS6 with 405hp in 2002. Something happened to the motor and they swapped in an LS7 from the C6 Z06 which made 505hp stock and then modded it to 525hp.
No, it isn't nuts. The 67 Corvette has 435hp.
For you, once again, slowly: for 2002. Not 1967. Gross vs net, emissions, fuel consumption, leaded vs non leaded....
@@matttim5095yes, I saw that. I said it made 505hp stock. Once nodded it made the 525 as you said. I was just pointing out that it didn’t have 525hp back in 2002 as someone had mentioned.
@JeremyGSU2011 Wrong, they stroked the original motor from 5.7(the ls6 displacement) to 6.6. But Jay blew it twice so he had it swapped to an ls7
I love how Jay has torn off several front chin spoilers just from driving and using them...driven as they were intended...not just collecting dust.
Jay Leno and chins. 😂
Torn chins from the cars and even tried to tear one off of his face.
I love that Jay credits those who help him and showcases other unique cars. Jay has a superb collection and he drives them. He is truly the car guy's car guy. Thanks Jay for what you do.
Corvette an American icon. 🇺🇸
This is one of the most beautiful Corvettes ever made. What a beauty.
For the money the Corvette has always been the best performance to value in the market.
terminator cobra was better at the time for power
@@enqualizer3210 didn't handle nearly as well.
That setup sounds perfect. Just quiet enough to sound tame but so eager to snarl and snap when opened up.
Man, this dude really knows this car inside & out. Another great, impressive and informative episode Jay - thanks for sharing.
😊❤
If only he didn't end every comment he makes with "right," it gets very annoying very quickly.

I remember seeing this car as well as some of Jays other toys on an episode of Car Crazy almost 20 years ago. I thought it was so cool back then and it's still cool today. Glad to see it highlighted again!
The C5 Z06 is an amazing bargain, pre-owned for a true Sports Car. I've seen them in the mid-$20s used.
I've been super stressed all week because I had my first colonoscopy today! So, I decided to treat myself to a video of Jay Leno's Garage tonight. As always, I love it!!
Great. Just what I needed. Jay making guys lust over C5Zs so the prices go even higher when I'm hoping to buy one next year.
I am laughing at the talk of the zero to sixty speed of this car. One needed to use a calendar to measure the time from zero to sixty of my first car. I once got passed by a flock of geese walking next to me while driving that thing. There truly is nothing better than Corvette. Great car. Thank you for the video.
And that was on run flats. A sticky tire with a taller sidewall and the 0-60 drops 2-3 tenths
Car looks so cool from the front end, the bumper and splitter give it a unique aggressive appearance
Gotta love waking up Monday mornings to jay vids!
Great car. My c5 had 180,000 miles on it when I traded it in. No big issues to speak of.
Makes me feel good about my Z06 with 78k miles!

2004 yellow Z06
Would be OK, if they weren't so common and ugly😊
No leaking rear end, along with defective fuel sending unit, crap harmonic balancer, creaking suspension and defective steering wheel lock mechanism on yours ? These are all the problems on my 2004 with 55,000 miles. It's a great sports car performance wise, but not very reliable.
Best celebrity by far. Love when he gas’s on the cars when folks are talking. Hilarious
Very impressed by Paul Rivera. He know his stuff and thinks objectively. He honestly mentioned the quickness of Tesla and Lucid. Cheers
Gotta Love Jay Leno, " This is my 3rd front lip" on a rare car... No Garage Queens ❤
WHAT A SOUND - From That Engine!!!!!!!!!! Love It!!!!!!!!
The Fikse FM5 wheels are so awesome! So simple and look so good.
Nice to see this here finally, I've seen it in the background of his videos for over a decade and wondered when he'd talk about it.
I own a LPE twin turbo Nassau Blue Tigershark without the chin spoiler and has the first of 10 Tigershark carbon fiber hoods. The Tigershark Jay owns is a pre production version that is all fiberglass instead of urethane. The screens are different and Corvette is embossed on the rear fascia. I had a set of the fiberglass parts minus the hood because the Tigershark kit almost didn’t go into production. I was able to trade the fiberglass parts out for the production urethane ones when production was announced. Wish he had more story on the development of the Tiger shark or the prototype that had different pieces including front quarter panels with bigger openings. Very cool episode though!
"In this Monday's episode, Jay gives Paul a sore neck."😂
Thanks, Jay and crew for yet another entertaining episode! 🤘❤️🙂🇨🇦
Absolutely Awesome! I never even knew this awesome machine even existed! I love watching (affectionately referred to as) "Uncle Jay Leno's" Garage! I learn about cars and see beauty's that I never knew existed. Uncle Jay always has something rare and interesting and never ever disappoints, ever. I wish Uncle Jay could live forever! 🙂❤
Hey, just because you call him Uncle Jay, doesn’t mean you can put a claim on his estate when his time comes. 😂
Awesome. Thank you Mr. Leno for all the videos you post.
MAN BEAUTIFUL CORVETTE! It was at a point in corvettes history when it started to change. Thanks for sharing, captain.
What an obscure electrical problem. Great job on repair.
That sounds incredible, wow. So well done.
Great video!! Jay and Paul make a great duo talking about cars. Would love to see them do more videos together.
The front grille reminds me of an fd rx7. I didn’t even know these existed but c5 or c6 is probably my favorite gen of corvette.
Jay is such a Legend.
The 02 Z06 didn’t come with just a black interior. There was a factory option called MODRED. I should know. I have a Millennium Yellow 02 Z06 with the MODRED option.
This is Jay's beater.
I have owned a 1988 Z-51, a 1991 ZR-1 but never a C5. I do have respect for it. I just bought, May, 2023 a 2016 Z06, convertible 3LZ. It is fabulous.
Thank you Mr. Leno for another amazing car review🙏🏽
Had that tiger shark spoiler on my dads 2004 ZO6 mellieum yellow, but had C5R headlights and hood in black, then twin turboed it ❤❤
Do you still have it?
Loved these when they were new. Love them now. I've been waiting a long time for Jay to talk about this car.
That is a beautiful style of corvette and thank you for the share of data about our history. ❤
As part of the Corvette faithful now, let me say: that is a proper sports car.
It's no doubt a true one of one. I'd be interested to know the story of how Jay came to own it. I don't care to know the cost, just how it fell into his hands.
Bet ya it wasn't cheap buddy.
Jay is the type of guy that can own anything, ANYTHING! Not just because of the money status, it's also because people highly respect him and as well highly respect him knowing that he will take care of the vehicle literally like no one else can. respect on top of respect on top of respect Jay is truly legendary as a human, as a person and as TRUE car guy. If you watch his videos many times he will mention that people give him the cars for free because they know he's the best caretaker and the only true one and that's what he is.. That's his whole objective goal preservation for the next generation the next and the next.JAY high RESPECTS to you Sir

Jay has earned a lot of respect in the car community. Plus he is the ultimate care taker. My mechanic gets upset because I want my cars to run perfect. But he loves those checks and thankfully he keeps them running perfectly. 😅😊😂
@@WarriorsPhoto indeed. and it helps that he has the influence to meet with the makers, the engineers. one bent pipe can change the mechanics of a care. car.
@@dinozorman Yes 🙌.
Proper care is important. My Corolla had a small vacuum leak. This caused it to run a little lean. Thus run a little hotter. That caused the ECM to shot more fuel ⛽️to keep the engine running cooler. Which ultimately lead to slightly worse MPG. I won’t go into the leak it also caused.
All buttoned up and driving noticeably better for under $500 US little ones. 😜 (Hope people get the joke.)
Great video! So happy you guys made another C5Z video as the original was one of my favorites and it disappeared from youtube a few years ago.
Such an excellent edition to the Corvette marque. What I like most about this platform is the low center mass and balance. I like the lines and looks over any Corvette that followed.
Its great t see Jay doing what he loves best.
You should film a video showcasing all of your Corvettes. Awesome car.
One of my favorite cars and one of my favorite colors
Most enjoyable, thanks for sharing your car & time Jay!
Fantastic car ! What a dream collection
Great story Jay! Makes me miss my C5Z ALOT!
What a machine! Great video, amazing guest, this is what keeps me coming back!!
The lesson here is find a Corvette Engineer who owns a race car fabrication shop. Here in NorCal we're blessed with two excellent speed shops that would have cured that evap issue in a New York minute.
Now this is a sweet car exercise but personally I'd choose my mildly-modified 2001 ZO6 any day. "Just saying".
Your money, your car, your fun!
All the best...
I'm actually surprised Jay allowed the guest so much time to speak.,👍🏼
he was just as bored as us!
I wonder where the sister car is the white shark and the ultra rare C5.R street, i know Dale JR had one C5.R street but there still 7 or 6 more that were produced.
Outstanding content and a great story about some incredible people. Thank you...
What a great sound when the door came shut. Solid.
I think this was much more than a car video as I think it was a wonderful story. So, so interesting!
Great video Jay! The cars suspension looks very well setup! Nice car!
Thanks for another great episode Jay! Loved it.
I remember seeing the 2001 Tiger Shark Concept which was based on a hatchback Coupe , it had some cool black body details, pearl yellow paint and different modular wheels , that was quite something .
Can't wait for it to come out
This car is in the background of so many videos. I didn't think it would ever be in a video. Makes me so happy it finally happened!
C5 tiger nose and Pratt&Miller C6, Jay with the ultimate Vette duo
What a wonderful look. OEM should have adopted it. Hey Jay, thanks for showing us this one of a kind.
The c5 is really special to me it was my first dream car even before i knew i was a car guy i had few corvette hotwheels & when i saw the real thing i was in shock i love pop up headlights i wish they still make them the new c8 would look awesome like Lamborghini diablo if it had those lights.
This C5 has aged well its nice to see.
At 0:57 Jay talks about a fuel problem caused by a short in the electrical system. That’s one of the classic problems with C5 Corvettes. I have a 2003 50th Anniversary convertible and have unscrewed and rescrewed all the grounding wires attached to the frame proactively. I like NW of San Antonio in a relatively dry climate. I’ve heard that if you have a C5 in a rainy area you need to check these ground connections more often.
Love the Tigershark, Jay!!!! A buddy of mine, John, has a Torch Red C5 (coupe, not Z06) that has the Tigershark front end on it, and a blower. Man that thing looks good! All the stock duct work is gone now. No more bottom feeder.
Love your wheels as well!!!!
Love the look of the car very cool
I don't know what you can store in the little storage box but I've always felt that cars and trucks should have a small storage unit for a quart of oil and a funnel, and maybe a few hand tools.
Very cool car Jay. Great show.
The trunk is so HUGE in a C5Z that amount of underhood space has no point.
I have the BIG 3 kit on mine in that area and a flat cover.
Jay, that is one impressive corvette! That's how they all should have been built. The body flows so nice together, the music that the engine plays is so soothing. There is compliments from every angle. The wheels stand out perfectly. The new stuff has sharp angles that don't flow very well, the paint hides the fine details, if there are any. The wheels are black or a dark color, so nothing stands out at you. All the car manufacturers have fallen into this monochrome blah. Loved this ride you have taken us on this week Jay! Fabulous tour of pure awesomeness.
What a couple of absolute gems
Great sounding car!
We had a customer who bought a new 2003 50th anniversary with the Z06 package. He always had to modify everything and he thought he might race the car, so the mods began. The seats were sent out to have slots cut into the backs to accommodate racing seat belts and a roll bar was added. He wanted a wing spoiler in the back, and wanted it to be removeable, so it was mounted to the chassis through the trunk floor. Slots were cut in the rear deck lid and with the spoiler removed, there was a 2nd but stock deck lid. He didn't like the factory paint to he had the car repainted to his satisfaction, He didn't like the dash cover so he had it recovered, twice. The Brembo brakes weren't good enough so we replaced them with red Wilwood brakes with red rotor hubs. The wheels didn't show off the new brakes, so larger wheels were ordered a couple of times. I believe that the tires were the same size as what the Vipers used. The engine didn't have enough power so the car was sent to Mike Gulstrand in L.A. who was building 427's well before LS7's were available in Corvettes. This engine also had a dry sump. Afraid of the engine dry-starting, we installed an oil pre-charger system. At some point the car got the 4 center outlet exhaust tips. He wanted more exhaust noise, so we installed exhaust cut-outs. These didn't work very well because they had plastic motors which quickly melted from the heat. Although Gulstrand said that the engine was CA smog legal, he couldn't find anyone locally who would smog it. A born worrier, he was afraid that he couldn't get it smogged, so he decided to sell it. Another excuse was that he was too tall and felt like he was crouching in the car. He ended up selling the car to someone who took is as is, for about 1/4 to 1/3 the money he had in it. That was less than he paid for the car brand new. His next car was a Ford GT, but that car ended up not fitting him either!
a real afficiando
If you look at the C7 ZR1 front bumper side by side with the Tiger Shark, you'll notice that GM took some inspiration from it. Pretty neat easter egg on the C7 ZR1.
Jay, I have always been a HUGE fan of yours! You are so funny and just like your predecessor Johnny Carson, you never get crude or un-PG! You are an amazing comedian and so respected and you deserve all of the love and respect that you receive from your fellow citizens! And you are such a real down to earth guy as well and you love cars which makes you all the more relatable to the average guy out here as well! God Bless you and I just wanted give you a sincere thank you and God Bless you! You are also so missed and needed on late night! I’m sure you have no interest at this point in your life, but you would turn ratings on their heads if you came back and it would help make late night great again! 😂😉
*blows 2 engines… jay : boy this ls7 is somethin. Other guy : almost as good as ours was , right? Jay : yeah… yeah… right …
Got a bit over 296k on my '00 FRC, and got the rock chips to prove it! 8 years of autocross and tracking, and the only thing I've replaced in the engine are the valve springs, and that was just preventative. Replaced the clutch at about 175k miles when several of the release levers broke their pivot pins.
I'm happy to see the headliner fabric flapping a little above Jay's head at 18:25 in the video. It tells me not everything is perfect in that hallowed Big Dog garage in Burbank. Makes it more real world.
Standard GM option
Nice video Jay. Fellow 2004 Z16 Commemorative Z06 owner here.
That is a beautiful car and hearing some of the back story was great too. Thanks Jay!

So cool! Sir, I love these amazing specifications and I can tell you are truly a car nut after my own heart, what with, the (hours and hours) spent researching the specifications on this beast. I had the pleasure of having a ride in a 1995 Corvette ZR-1 (one of 448 produced) that year, by a Gentleman that worked for GM for 37 years, with ONLY a little over 6K on the odometer! He stated that the car had sat for 28 years! It was a milestone and real treat of a lifetime to have had the pleasure of going for a ride in that sweetheart! Cars Are Life! 🥰
Unless he updated it. Leno just has the body panels with the stock LS7 in his with the Z06 505 hp badges. He had a video on this car and it just disappeared offline for whatever reason.
That is a stock LS7 motor... no supercharger in sight on the current setup or the original motor setup.
This was a concept. Never produced. And Jay simply has an LS7 from a C6.
Lovely vehicle...what a keeper...am so glad it is being used and appreciated,,,,
That Tiger shark is sweet . Thank you Jay for sharing. 💯👍👊
What I like about US, they made the Corvette - a car just as good as any super car, but available to the common man. Fantastic vehicle.
After years of seeing this car in the background it was nice to see a video featuring it. No mention of the hood and wheels that I recall.
Thanks for finally showing us your "Corvette backdrop" from so many videos!
Great Ride Jay.
Thanks for Posting.
You can tell this guy is pretty disappointed that Jay swapped the custom engine this car used to have for an LS7 crate motor. He didn't even want to talk about the new engine when Jay showed it to him but really, I can't blame Jay for swapping in something more reliable.
As a '03 Z06 owner, I want to hear more about the 2 blown engines!!
Same lol
I don't think you have to worry about it. It sounds like the problem was with the Tiger Shark motor (LS6 bored and stroked to 6.6L). Certainly not a stock Z06.
Just make sure you have the blue valve springs and you should be ok 😂
Yes, interested to hear the story behind how the LS7 crate got in there.
WOW a true machine. Beautiful yellow.
Metallic Cherry Red would look AMAZING in these veh specs.
Such a cool car. 1 of 1 custom c5. Love the c5. My godfather drove a red one when I was young. I'll never forget seeing HUD for the first time. I Thought "this is the future" and hoped all cars in future would have it. Sadly very few do in 2023. C5 ahead of its time!
It is pretty funny the ying and yang of these two. Paul keeps referring to what they accomplished at Wheel 2 Wheel in the day building the car and how advanced it was for the day. Jay, the customer keeps referring to how bad it was. It sat forever because no one could make it run. I'm on the 3rd splitter. I love the LS7 motor that I put in to replace the one that came with it that kept blowing up. Now that we have it working, I love it. But I also love the other Corvettes I have that just work.
What an amazing car! So clean and performance especially for the time! Jay, I still remember the day I met you at the Zimmerman museum and what an amazing human being you are! Wishing you the best always Jay! Many blessings to you 🙌🏼🙏🏼😊
One of the most beautiful Corvettes ever made I love everything about this car ❤
