But it doesn't really fit, since a body isn't born with a finished "personality". No matter if DID or not, a freshly born child doesn't have a personality like an adult. Personality/ies are formed during development of the human.
So, I doubt that the core as they know her, existed as long as the body existed.

I’ve thought about this a lot, I think the main reason we use the word “original” is because it’s what our therapist used. But I’ve always kind of felt weird about it, like it was my title, like I was the chosen one or something. Haha

I always thought of it like a tree, the roots (the body) keep you grounded, the trunk (host) keeps everything moving in the right direction, and the branches (alters) help maintain the health of the tree, but I really like the paper analogy.

As someone who doesn't have DID but still enjoys your videos I love being educated on this type of thing. Part of this reason is I may one day have a friend who has DID being a bit more understanding will probably help a in our friendship with understanding who is out, why they have it (not specifically what had happened to them to traumatize them but just that something happened)and things like that. I also used to think of it as a bad thing (To have DID) before I stumbled across this channel and was educated more on the subject. I know now that while it is definitely not a good thing it means the core has had something very traumatic happen it is to simply help protect that core so nothing like that can happen again. Honestly I'm not sure how to word it but I love your guys channel and I'm glad to be able to be educated about this. Much love💚💙

I just wanted to say, as someone who DOES have DID, I really appreciate people like you who are willing to be open-minded and learn about DID even though you don't have it and don't currently know anyone who has it. That is so awesome! That's why The Entropy System's channel, and others like it, are so important. They are showing people that DID is not the scary, freaky thing that some people think it is, nor is it the cool, awesome thing that other people think it is. It is a coping mechanism that is difficult to live with, but doesn't have to be totally debilitating. So thank you, chicken nuggets, for being willing to educate yourself about it, and thank you, Entropy System, for doing the educating! You guys are awesome!!! - Leyna of the Doug Vincent system

      @summahthevegan3796 Před 5 lety +1

Yes, I don't have DID nor do I have friends with DID (at least as far as I'm aware) but I want to understand it.
Partly because I have mental health issues; specifically trauma based ones (BPD & CPTSD) so I know what it's like to go through fkd up stuff. Also my BPD diagnosis causes me to experience stigma not only from regular people but from "professionals" too so I can totally relate to those parts of DID. But I feel like partly it's because I'm interested in mental health in general and helping people and want to be able to help ALL people.
I have a dream to open a sanctuary for abused human and non human animals where they come together to heal one another (that's the short version) and I feel like this is something I will NEED more information and understanding of to do so.
Plus I find other mental illness explained fascinating and want to learn about it much like I find behaviors and such fascinating too. And I love to learn about how best to help someone when stressed as it also helps me. Like for example finding ways to help someone in a panic attack helped me when I've had them too.
Plus when it comes to CZcams The Entropy System, DisassociaDID & Multiplicity +Me are ALL such nice people and from what I know of those in the systems they are so genuinely wanting to educate and help others wether that's fellow DID people, their friends & supports &or random people.
And I've noticed how kind they can be with responses to thise struggling so I enjoy watching them for those reasons too.
Like if they were mean disrespectful people I wouldn't keep watching them as there'd be no point as I can't stand that so the fact that they are so beautiful in their own ways makes it even easier to watch their content.

I felt the exact same way. It felt like I was preparing for a future friendship or for a current friend to discover DID in themselves. I told a close friend about this feeling I had and she thought it was funny. About a year later she started hearing from her alters. And we brought up that feeling I had before either of us were aware of how accurate it was. It has helped so much to have some understanding about DID to be the person she can talk to about it.

This makes so much sense! Tom and Silas Co-host in our system, and Silas is the core, even though he doesn't have name that we were born with (that's actually one of our really shy alters who almost never comes out, she normally just hides in The Basement, which is a corner of our mind that we can't see into, and others can't see out of, kind of like a panic room, and when she isn't in The Basement she hides with one of our other shy Alters, Athena.) So we always call her the original, because she has the name we were born with. But I see how that term might not sit right with you!

This makes so much sense. Our system is a bit odd at times. My alter/ co-host see's herself as the core ( mainly because she comes out so much). Daniel: Our host is different than our core. Dani is our host, and Apryl is our core. Apryl is dormant unfortunately. She does come out once in a while, but not terribly often. She only seems to come out once in a while during intense trauma or to express gratitude to our partner system who has been incredible to us. I'd say she comes out maybe 2 or 3 times a year at the most, if not more sparse than that.

This video helped immensely. My girlfriend is the core as well as the host. All of her alters recently "officially came out", and the whole "everyone is an alter" concept kicked off an existential crisis for both of us. "What if I'm not me?" "What if, after, I integrate, I'm a completely different person and everything changes?" Now, I feel like I completely understand it. She's the personality born with the body, she's out 90% of the time, and all of the alters acknowledge that they are pieces that will come together to help her feel more like herself. Whew. Massive relief for both of us. Thanks!

I’ve said the same thing in my last podcast about how we are all alters. I did have a re-arranging of perspective on DID that had been much like your paper example, but realized that according to the current and accepted explanation of structural dissociation, the paper didn’t rip into pieces where they were once a whole paper, but they started off as pieces and never became whole.

This is really interesting! We've never had a problem with the term 'original'- I've never really thought about it. Our original is currently dormant, and while we are all dealing with the trauma she experienced I wouldn't say that she's the core currently? Wow :) as someone whose therapist has suggested and helped me recently explore this possibility for my way of being, a system, this helped calm my identity crisis and sense of losing myself or being forced to add something to or take something away from me by accepting this possible reality. This also helped me realise if it is true that I am a system, it is not that the total of "me" has lost control and could at any point ending with the result that so I am more dangerous or risky than other people and always will be, but simply that even if who I experience the world as now was not the identity existing from birth, or it is and another one needs to come to the front consciously, I who I experience most of my time as, am still from "me" who was born (the full me before breaking off) and a part of it and still one with it in a sense, and it might not be so scary for me to come to terms with that I could who experience most my time could be a fleshed out earlier fragment and even help me begin to accept the possibility that this (system/disorder) is applicable to me. Your video was much clearer than my comment haha >< so thank you so much. I think in the future, if this turns out that I am, a system, then I think I will use this video to explain what is going on to people who I am close to. Thank you so much! so clear

I have no influence from outside of myself that would make me use the word original, and up until less than a week ago I didn't even think I would have a need to use that word. Until she accidentally got ripped out during ketamine treatment. All of my parts are very, very different from what she is. We are all there to protect her and unfortunately also kind of lock her away. I was always curious as to why we were so highly emotional and dysfunctional when I thought parts were supposed to be there to help me be 'normal'. But it's really seeming like we took all the hits so she didn't have to. When she came out for those 2 hours she was scared and everything was loud but she was strong and kind and 4 years old. I've never doubted what anyone else has said their experience is, but to experience 4-year-old me being pulled through 30 years of memories and experiencing them seemingly all at the same time is indescribable. Time did not make sense memory did not make sense, because it was all happening at once and this was long after my session was over. I was sober. I never would have thought that there was a core, but she is that when we've always referred to as precious and cherished. Before I knew of my diagnosis I referred to her as my inner child, but I had not the slightest idea that she was a literal entirely separate mind that barely knew how to work a cell phone.

Can I just say how I happy I am that I can watch you guys every Monday morning. It's such a great start to my day :) Anyways, I'm reference to the video, although it's a little embarrassing to admit now, I actually never thought of originals/cores in that way. Though this just reidderated what I knew about alters being parts of the host and not additions, i guess I never put two and two together on the definitions of different terminology and how they may contradict with that knowledge.

Omg nice! You guys always seem to make videos with explanations we didn't know we needed 😛 We'll be saving this excellent paper analogy for when we explain things to others. We have at least 2 alters who could be considered the core, so it's a little confusing for us - but that's okay cause things are rarely black and white. We're still puzzling out our host situation, too 😂 Great video as always Daniel, keep it up 👍 -Eryn

I needed this so much. I didn’t know why I was so drawn to DID videos but I.. I guess us... are freaked out and trying to figure out when the host switched.

We consider ourselves to have 2 "cores". A mute, shy boy and a talkative, outgoing girl. But personally we HATE using it as an identifier and so do they. Well, the girl integrated and is now a gender neutral and outgoing alter named Anon and RARELY fronts but the boy is still relatively active. He wants more time in the body bc he went mostly dormant for 3-4 years and wants more time to himself bc whenever he fronts we're in public. But they have no special rights in our system. We are all equals.

I love this explanation of the way everyone is kind of "organized". I recently watched a video created by Solar & Co. where Solar explained it quite a bit differently, but didn't make a ton of sense. Your videos always seem put together really well and I love watching them. I have a mother, aunt, and sister-in-law that all have DID. My mother is mostly integrated and only has a couple active alters now, but my sister-in-law is still working on getting her system all on the same page a cooperating with one another. Your videos have helped me really start to understand a bit of what they are dealing with. Even though I grew up with my mother, her alters were very good at acting like her so I wasn't completely aware of it until I was in my teens, and we haven't many conversations openly about it. Thank you Daniel, and Kit, and everyone else in your system for being so willing to talk about it and educate people. Keep up the great work!

This video was a double delight! As usual: highly educational and easily understandable for somebody who never actually came across DID in real life and I just generally enjoy Daniel's style, I could listen to him all day! 😸😸😸

I've always used "host" to refer to Travis. Given the information in this video though I think "core" is a better title sine we are a bit confused on who the host is right now. Thanks for another awesome vid :) - Yugi

Oooh I like this analogy! Also I feel like some bread analogies would work too but would take a lot of effort and work and money.. okay they wouldn't be practical at all but I feel like in theory they could show how the bits of what would be the single personality, had the mind not ended up being a system, could grow to become their own people ♡ we don't even have a core of any sort because we became a system preeeeetty early on in our life so we just have a bunch of littles and a few other pretty abstract alters and that's about it but that also means we ended up trying to protect every member equally in our system without even knowing that this was a good idea beforehand so I feel like that's pretty cool :3 speaking of littles they love both you guys (same as myself) and all the figurines behind you xD -Jack
