  • ►Keep your Volvo Haldex 5 system in perfect working order with a simple fluid change. This Haldex system service kit includes everything you need in order to change the gear oil on your Volvo.
It's important to note that 5th generation Haldex systems do not come with filters. Because of this, it is extremely important to regularly service the Haldex system to prevent premature failure.
Jay VanGorden, one of our resident Volvo gurus and Volkswagen Catalog Manager is here to walk you through the steps required to service the Haldex system on a Volvo XC70. While he does the work on the XC70, this DIY applies directly to how to service the Volvo S60 Haldex system as well.

Jay does the best FCP videos. Great attention to detail that’s sadly lacking on so many other CZcams channels!
One suggestion on that connector, firstly spray internally the connector with electrical contact cleaner and then smear a little dielectric grease on the terminal pins before snapping back on! Prevents water ingress and improves electrical conductivity.

Great video, really simple to do even on jack stands. Took me longer to screw and unscrew the fill plug than it did to do the rest of the service! BUT I figured out that you can take a baby size vise grips and clamp down on a quarter and then use that like a screwdriver and turn the fill plug in and out. Once I figured that out it was really easy. Highly recommend trying it if your having trouble holding the coin and/or can’t tighten it enough.

You do not need to drive. Just start the engine and put on D. Hold it a brake and put your foot on gas pedal same time.
Haldex pump will pump up oil to remove air bubbles its self. Then refull oil to correct level.

Pretty sure that after the "test drive" and then filling up the fluid to maximum for second time, the proper way to ensure the correct level is maintained is to syphon some back out with a graduated syringe with mL measurements. Did they change this in 5th Generation Haldex?

very useful video but I am curious if you can get just the O-rings because it’s $165 for 2 O-rings, a plastic plunger, and $10 worth of brake clean and oil. That’s a bit hard to justify to a customer unless this is only DIY but still quite a bit of a mark up unless I’m missing something else because you can use that filler again. Most people have the oil and brake clean already.

I have a AWD Disabled warning light on my 2013 XC60 (112k miles). Took it to Volvo service for a diagnostic and service. They recommended that I replace the AOD Coupling due to an “internal fault.” I had no idea what that meant, and they even said it was extremely rare. Cost to repair was $5k. They said it was safe to drive since I basically now had a FWD car 😕 . That said, I declined the service as it wasn’t crucial for me to fix.
I’m going to a local independent European specialist who does Volvos to do some routine maintenance, and am going to ask him to validate the Volvo service center’s diagnosis. If he says that Volvo was off their rockers, I’m going to ask him to perform this service (I proactively bought this kit from you). I can’t do it myself since I don’t have anywhere to work on my xc60. Swedespeed forum users also recommended trying this out before replacing the entire AOD. Any thoughts on this approach? Also, what’s the recommended frequency to change the Haldex fluid?

If you are working on the P3 with jackstands like me, what's the best way to get the rear of the car up? I've seen it done with a floor jack on the rear subframe (the one right next to that nice blue sway bar in this video) with a 2x4 in between it and the jack pad, and then putting the jack stands on the factory pinch welds. The manual doesn't specify a good spot to actually jack up the rear of the car.
