    Another good tip for all volvo awd owners is thermal wrap on yor exhaust. Wraped near propshaft cv joints will save the lubricant inside joints.

    The filter and oil can be changed with exhaust and drive shaft still in place.

    Hi. Now I bought my dream car with me. Volvo V70T5R. I'll pick him up next Saturday. Such a beautiful car. Completely original! Total, with cassette radio. I understand you. Never sell! Mine stays with me forever now.

    I did a ”Haldex service” on a V60 once wasn’t that bad.
    But I guess that when you have been an apprentice at a authorized Volvo garage, had access to a lift and where surrounded by clever “Volvo technicians” (some where also Renault technicians too), than most things tend to be easier at home.
    I tell you one thing, the French philosophy of putting everything thing if front or on top of everything, nearly drove me mad.
    But my experience doing “some” work on Renaults has made calmer when doing “tricky” or “annoying” work on Volvos, it may be “harder” than what it should be in a perfect world, but at least it is not a Renault.

    The big difference between the XC70 in VolvoSweden's video and our R's is that the P3 cars use Haldex Gen 4. Haldex Gen 4 you can *barely* wiggle the AOC pump out without removing the driveshaft or exhaust. Everything else in the procedure is nearly identical. But his trick to get the AOC pump in and out by grinding a tiny bit off of the casing *will not work* on our R's or any other P2 AWD Volvo.
    One thing that wasn't mentioned but shown in the timelapse - please please *please* mark your driveshaft between the coupler and the companion flange with a paint marker. This will allow you to put your driveshaft back on in the same rotational position as it came off and aids in avoiding unwelcome vibrations. I would personally also mark the position of the coupler to the AOC casing itself so that can go back in the same way as well.
    Both if my R's had loose heatshielding underneath creating a quiet scraping sound, this is a great time to remedy that issue as well as doing any angle gear service or exhaust work.

      @@ShiftingLanes There's also a small mistake in the description, stating that volvosweden's video is haldex 3 ;-)

    • @johannessoonik1007
      @johannessoonik1007 Před 5 lety

      Not actually all P3 cars have haldex 4. To my surprise when I did the service on my '08 XC70 it had haldex 3. I think early P3 models up to 2009 still used haldex 3, because volvosweden's car is '09 and already has haldex 4.

    Those hand jacks really should only be used in an emergency as they can fail relatively easily.
    I speak from experience, I had a Ford jack suddenly strip the screw threads and subsequently the vehicle dropped.
    If you do use them, make sure the threads are well lubricated.

    Haldex Service isn't as bad as a few other things I can think of...
    Did mine with all 4 wheels off the ground on stands - and it isn't a too bad job.
    I will say, I am glad mine never lived in the northeast rust belt - it's nowhere near as rusty on the driveshaft.

  • @cameronprice
    @cameronprice Před 3 lety +4

    Too superficial. Even with a hoist, the job is not for a DIY'er. VolvoSweden's video is excellent but it's for a Haldex 4 and 5. The real issue with a Haldex 3 is removing the driveshaft. A factory exhaust does not need to be removed. The details missing include installing the pinion retaining nut that must be properly torqued. While you're at it, consider replacing the driveshaft pinion seal. As well, replace the filter and inspect the control module. Another missing item is replacing the fluid procedure using only Haldex approved (Volvo or VW) expensive gear oil.

    How did you determine that the pump was actually bad? Did VIDA/DICE throw a code?... I'm trying to troubleshoot my 04 V70R AWD, but I don't have any codes at the dash. Want to make sure I order ALL the parts I need before doing this crazy teardown.
