I'm so sorry you guys had a bad experience at the first restaurant but hey, things happen, they could have treated you better! You might not be perfect (just sometimes) at choosing a restaurant but that's just because we aren't either. Fortunately you finally found a place that seemed to pay off and the first restaurant owner will freak out when he realizes the magnificent chance he missed!

About 15 years ago, my wife and I moved to Arzua and it was just a magical time. We loved it because it was exactly like England, but in Spain. Six years ago we decided to move to Catalunya so that we could enjoy the sunshine and Mediterranean lifestyle. And we never regretted that move. But Galicia is still close to our hearts.

I love Galicia and can't wait to go back. We were in Ribadeo when I had my first taste of pulpo. I didn't speak much Spanish and I asked the waiter what pulpo was. He looked at me with incredulity and tried to help me understand. I couldn't. Finally, in frustration he shouted, "Cefalopodo!" I ordered it and I was hooked. Thanks for your great videos. Of course in Galicia they have the best seafood. If I could, I would visit all the Paradores in Spain, haha. There is a very famous albariño from the Rías Baixas called Mar de Frades with a very original label. The label is sensitive to temperature and when the temperature of the bottle is around 10-11˚, a little blue drawing of a galleon sailing appears on the front label, indicating that the wine is ready to drink, if the temperature is The higher the wine, the hotter the wine, the drawing of the galleon disappears from the label.

Sorry to see that you guys had a bad experience in my region. Sadly these kind of places are not unheard of in the more touristic corners of the Galician coast and prey on unsuspecting tourists (both national and foreign) with unclear pricing schemes, mediocre products and eye watering bills, I hope it was at least not too expensive. Fortunately you found a much better place the next day to carry a good memory back home! :)

Since my country of birth is Panama, a narrow country that easily lets you enjoy both the Atlantic and Pacific ocean, I am familiar with living in an area where seafood is plentiful and dishes of fresh caught items are quite delicious. I suppose that is why my favorite food has always been seafood. And due to the fact that my favorite beverage is wine, I wouldn't want to easily leave this area of Galicia. I could see myself staying there for several days. I've visited the city of Porto in Portugal (besides Lisbon) and it is quite nice to see again the tiles on the facade of buildings. The scallops at Meca looked amazing. I would have face-planted on that dish. Once again, great video! Oh, yeah. . . I've definitely given up on adding cities in Spain to my bucket list. It is now just "Spain" because I want to go everywhere, including the Canary and Balearic Islands.

If you go to Santaigo, cant miss Casa Marcelo (best, and just let the waiter pick your food) they have a chinese place a couole doors down (#25) - great dumplings
For the simplest, freshet ad cheapest seafood, go to mercado de abastos, buy your seafood raw and take it to Meson Hispano right in front and they will cook it for you for about $6-8 per person (no kidding! Get a live centollo and prepare to have the best meal!)
Around the mercado you have at least 4 great restaurNt places, including 2.0, Lume, and cafe de altamira. Hanging out at rua de Franco, go to Meson 42.

What a shame that I visited Cambados before the pandemic and did not try Fefifanes Albariño! I stayed at a parador at the city center and it was magical 🧝‍♂️ definitely will visit Galicia again on my next trip to Spain 🇪🇸 do you recommend to go in September? Incredible videos! Congrats. Salud! 🍷

Great video of a region I've yet to visit but has been on my bucket list for some time now. What a fantastic looking place. Wales, Ireland and Galicia share more than our Celtic roots and traditions. Our beautiful green landscapes enjoy the wind and occasional drop of rain shall we say. Every coastal region of Spain claims to be the 'Seafood' capital but Galicia has a strong claim I think. Despite the supposed popularity of fancy shellfish it remains extraordinarily expensive and the property of the rich. Seriously, percebes (barnacles), are just not worth it. However, regular prawns, squid, muscles and clams are still great value. I love Spanish food but of all the great meals I've had throughout Spain I've had to endure plenty of overpriced and weird experiences. Your meal at the end looked sensational and proves the point with regards to variety. You do stick your neck out a bit when it comes to seafood but when it's good it can be great and memorable indeed. Besides fish and seafood on the coast of Spain is a must. My best experiences of top quality, non Michelin star, seafood have been in Cadiz, Sanlucar de Barremeda, Comillas and a seaside restaurant on the road to Nerja where they serve an awesome arroz con mariscos with Mediterranean sea views to die for.

You are right about the pricy food. When you come to Galicia is cheaper than in other regions if you know where to go. But many places nowadays have tourist prices. This also happens because as the seafood arrives it is already sold to other parts of Spain or to other countries. Some locals try to buy them before the prices go too high but nowadays it is mostly impossible. You have to remember that the fish and seafood is sold by bidding on it. And those who ofer the better price are the ones that get it.

@@guillermomaita2624 Good info Guillermo. I get fresh prawns in Velez Malaga and they are so good and the best value you can think of. Good mussels are very cheap too if you cook them at home. (I think the Spanish overcook them - 30 seconds of heat is it.) Anything that's beyond the great value clams, prawns. mussels becomes very highly priced and treated as gourmet food. I see many Spanish tourists as well as international ones paying big bucks for seafood which is not presented in an interesting way. I'm an old hand so I know what to look for and recognise any overpriced offer.

Lo siento hermanos españoles, pero los pescados y mariscos gallegos no tienen comparación. Ah, y la carne de la ternera gallega.

Beautiful place. I was never a fan of octopus, it was always to rubbery for me. But this one looked pretty tasty. Maybe I will give it a try next time when I come to Spain.

It scares me when I walk into a restaurant and no one else is there... Looks like an awesome place to visit in Summer when it's a bit warmer

Ourense has the best pulpo! :) My grandson's paternal abuelo speaks Gallego exclusively so Victor is being raised trilingual. He's already quite a chatterbox.

Hi Heather, we don't have a list per se. But I'll type it out here
      - Stayed at the Parador
      - Drinks at A Fonte Do Viño and then Ribeira de Fefiñáns
      - I'll skip the bad restaurant Posta do Sol... :)
      - Next morning we went to the Santa Marina church
      - Then Gil Armada winery
      - Then across to the Island of Arousa to have lunch at A Meca :)

We had a similar experience in Lisbon a couple years ago. We followed the vloggers and internet ratings to an hour’s long wait outside a crowded seafood restaurant. The large prawns were displayed with pride as a frozen clump inside a metal container better suited to display gelato. We were seated at a long table cafeteria style next to other tourists. I was talked into a crab dish of mush that was inedible. The waiter didn’t argue when I told him I refused to pay for it. Living in South Florida I’m used to eating fresh snapper, dolphin, and stone crab. It doesn’t compare to the seafood in Spain, but I do understand what fresh smells and tastes like and what tourist traps feel like. I hate it when I get duped into an expensive bad meal.
