I had boquerones and a beer in Casa Toni once :D (I'm from Spain but don't live in Madrid, was there for work). It's always fun to see a place and be able to say "hey, I've been there!" Seeing that we have similar taste tells me I should look up your recommendations. One time that I was in Bilbao, I was staying in Old Town (hotel Jardines, I totally recommend it) and asked the receptionist "of the million eateries here, which one do you think I shouldn't miss?" I don't remember the name of the place, but he warned me: "the food is heavenly, just don't expect any smiles. Drinks come quickly, food is self-service, waiters are busy making sure there's enough food and don't have time for niceties." I can certify the food was good; those sardines went down like water. The group of Italians next to me had four women who were analyzing every single thing (all opinions were positive) and a man who just went through the food with a smile as big as his face.

about peeing, just don't pay a coffee if you need to do it. Go straight to the toilet in a crowded bar, they will believe you are coming from the "terraza" (outside tables). I mean is like common sense, not needed to be spanish to do it. classic "lazarillo de tormes" spanish cultural trick.

About the racism issue, I couldn't agree more. I'm a Spaniard who has lived here his entire life. And racism here doesn't stop at conguitos and blackface, in fact, we've got horrible expressions people use naturally here. For example, the expression "trabajar como un negro", referring to someone who works very hard...

Zealand is the island in Denmark where Copenhagenis on. But I doubt many, if any people know that when they ask about where you are from.. I learnt that only when I went to Denmark 5 years ago for a wedding. I'm half Mexcian and half Austrian. In many countries I just say I am from Mexico. I've given up trying to explain what Austria is or where it is. Many just say "ooooh Australia!", especially whenever I'm travelling in Southeastasia, Colombia or Mexico.

i'm still watching the video. i noticed in the past couple of years myself that when i visit mexico city, my birth city, is getting ruined by gentrification. and it is getting brutally expensive. it is not just the chain coffeshps and hipster vegan hippie burger joints. it is the whole mentality. social media is partly to blame in my opinion. i live in innsbruck, austria now, and it is starting now here too. austria has an excellent coffee culture, and this summer the 2nd starbucks will open here. starbucks is a symbol to me that historic european centres are getting ruined by chain companies. soon all city centres will ook the same. in the UK it already happened a long time ago. i lived in the uk from 2004 to 2009 in oxford and london, and most UK city centres look the same, with all the same chain shopas and restaurants in every city with just a handful of old traditional shops somewhere hidden. gonna continue watching now. thanks for sharing this video. will visit spain (Madird+Granada) in july with my family.

The cars not indicating and road being a complete chaos is a big city thing like Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia. Fortunately it's not as common on smaller areas

I'm a Spaniard, here's a small hack for the public toilet problem: Big malls, some train/bus stations and also supermarkets like mercadona or carrefour have clean toilets and you don't need to pay to enter or use them!! They are easy to find, I always use them. If you're a bit more daring, you might consider looking for crowded hotel halls or restaurants and sneak into the bathroom...

Spain is a fascist state, based on ultra nationalism+catholicism and hate towards Catalonia, Valencia, Balearics ("theirs" by "conquest"). Many of your topics are describing Franco Spain. You will love the peripherical nations much more, in fact, much more European than the shouting incompetents living southwards. In Pamplona or Girona you feel in Europe. The "Spanish" character becomes boring and frustrating very quickly.

14:30 the flashing orange light just means you can drive across but carefully and always respecting any pedestrians trying to cross. Pedestrians will not wait to cross if their light is green, so, if they are still, that means their light is red. Also, we don't need to wait until the pedestrian has completely crossed to move forward with your car like i've seen do in Australia

As a Catalan living in NZ for 50 years, coming and going a lot between both countries, I find Spain to be the most wonderful place in the world...provided you don't integrate in the society. There is a weird duality that makes society impossible to understand, Machado said "one of the two Spains will freeze your heart " and so it is. In NZ it's almost possible to be left alone, in Spain you spend a lot of time dodging imbecility!

For wines under 5-6 euros (6-7 now) you must know what you are buying to get away from trash. Look always for "denominación de origen" which warranties at least the wine is legit (except for expensive author wines). There are even "real" wines for under 3 euros... not great but better than you'll think. Try different ones from different zones and do not trust cost only.

Whenever I want to use a toilet and don't pay for a coffee, I try to look for a mall. They always have public toilets 😉👍
