When I travelled throughout Spain I saw so many beautiful places and things. There was something about Granada though, even just pulling into the city, that felt like home to me. You can't put a price on that kind of feeling.
James, I, an American based in Madrid and having worked in the tourism industry in/about Madrid, Barcelona and Granada (and throughout Spain), can honestly say that Granada is my FAVORITE city in Spain - and NOT ONLY for the free&good tapas, but also for its history, landscape and varied neighborhoods. It's my magical place and I always speak highly about it to everyone who asks.
Your visit was clearly a successful one. Thanks for sharing!
So the tapas are included in the drink price, right? How much usually is a glass of wine with a set of tapas! 😁
@@genevavalmeo4322 usually around 3 euros
Yes! It IS magical.
It's not just the city of Granada either. It's the entire province of Granada where you get a free tapa with your drink. If you have another drink you get a different tapa. The generosity of the free tapa is a very important part of the enjoyment. It's also great food on the go. You can forget about the poncy creations which get entered into ridiculous tapas tournaments. It's all about simple but delicious food. James is eating in fancy bars in the city so the wine might cost a bit more but if you drink a glass of fino in a venta (inn) in the countryside you will get a great tapa for $1.50. The drinks don't even have to be alcoholic. I recently had a fantastic tapa in Alhama de Granada, which was a small bowl of excellent paella for the price of a glass of coca cola.
Do they put much pepper or salt in the tapa so you'll need another drink rapidly?
@@felikesmeerssen3263 I don't think so. Most people are pretty chilled and tend to only have one drink and one tapa anyway.
@@felikesmeerssen3263 course not
@@felikesmeerssen3263 That's what happens when they offer you chips or olives, but not tapas.
Granada is a magical city.
Our dinner in Albayzin at a local restaurant was delicious and the beautiful view of Alhambra Palace at night was so captivating.
My wife and I just spent five days in Madrid… Just outside of Sol. We used so many of your tips, and stopped and had tapas at many of the places you suggested. Even with our very limited Spanish, we were able to have an incredible trip and experience. Wanted to thank you personally. Both of you.!!!!
Glad to ear you have spend a great time in my city.
I actually live in Granada, and it is a really amazing city! It's my favorite place in Spain that I've seen so far. I'm glad you visited!
Eva any recommendations u have of where to eat…favorite places and restaurants? Thx!
@@user-gf7dj1oj7k depends on what you're looking for! My favorite Spanish restaurant is in the Albyzin and it's called Mirador de la Lona, Café Bib Rambla is also great and has really yummy churros con chocolate, Qadima, Mirador de Moraima has beautiful views, Los Patos is at a hotel and it's nice and El Claustro is in a hotel that used to be a convent, which is cool. Not Spanish related, but if you're with kids, Pizza Metro is the best pizza in Granada. Finally, Los Diamantés is a seafood place that is really good. Probably more direction than you wanted, but I hope that helps!
@@evalehnerd-reilly3690 thank you! never too much direction... more the better :) I will look into all of those. Sadly we will just be there for a day but wanted to experience more of the city since last year we only had time for Alhambra...plan to see as much as possible before driving back to La herradura
Hello friend! I am from Virginia USA 🇺🇸 and we are coming to Spain in 2 weeks and I’m soooo excited! I’m looking to meet friends before coming that we can all meet up while we are there and eat brunch 😊
Granada was my favourite place to visit when I was in Spain last. We ate extremely well and the tapas was generous. The place has a vibe around it. And YES! I actually shed a tear when eating tomatoes when visiting Setinil de las Bodegas. So much flavour.
Ever since I left granada on a recent trip to Spain all I've wanted to do is return. It stole my heart! Can't wait to return to try these places and return to some other favorites !
Honestly, not because I am Spanish and Portuguese, but when I was in Tenerife and in Andalusia, I never had a bad meal or a bad glass of vino. I also had the best tasting coffee. But by far, I love the cuisine of Puerto Rico as well.
Hello friend! I am coming to Barcelona Spain in 2 weeks! I am from Virginia USA 🇺🇸 and I’m looking to meet friends before coming so maybe we can all meet and eat brunch! My name is Roger Hunnell
Thanks for your visit James! I had a blast exploring some of my favorite bars with you. And I love that all your followers saw my first experience with caracoles 😆🐌
It was epic! Good for you for getting out of your comfort zone! Bravo!
Hello friend! I am from Virginia USA 🇺🇸 and we are coming to Spain in 2 weeks! I am looking to meet friends before we come so while we are there we can all meet up for brunch! 😊
Watching you mentally prepare to eat that snail reminded me of that scene in Pulp Fiction where Vincent was about to stab Mia with a syringe to wake her up, except Vincent was James and the syringe was the snail. 😂
OMG! I saw you walking by the Albaicín on that Saturday! 🤯
2:35 "We don't have WiFi, talk amongst yourselves." 😂😂
Talk to each other.
you vent talked about the student areas. The tapas there are basically cheap stuff but basically a whole meal. In the faculties they serve beer! Today they served me a small plate of lentil stew with their slice of chorizo!
What a terrific tour and guide, James!
we missed so much in Granada in October but we did get to la tana! beautiful city and with the short time we had the tapas were amazing! thank you for the additional suggestions for the next visit which hopefully will be soon!!!
I miss Yoly & Little Lucia or Lucy🫠
May the newborn BABY pour His Blessings on all of you♥️
Salustiano & Elena💖💔🥰
Thank you, -James & Martha!!! Sine day soon I will visit this beautiful country and be sure to look up your tours!
I didn't notice this vid until I got your e-mail today. I really loved it and I hope I can take one of Martas tapas tours. Haven't been in Spain for 3 years, because of covid etc, and I miss it so so much. Especially the food and the people, and of course the resonable priced wine.
Loved it! ❤
Really enjoying all of your videos.
Thank you. 🙏
Brilliant, just brilliant!
Oooh Granada here I come! Everyone and all the tapas makes for some happy times. Thank you James and Marta, great tour.
Our pleasure!
Granada for the win! I miss living there!
I like that concept. The drinks cost a bit more but you get a little tapas with it. Reminds me of a Greek island i visited years back. When you ordered an ouzo you always got a little meze with it. And with a couple of ouzo's you you actually did not need to eat a dinner in a restaurant.
finally you came! nice that you liked it and hope you come back theres a million more bars each with some speciality or thing to it!
Yes!! People in Granada are SUPER welcoming ❤
Totally!
because you are a woman
Just saw your Granada Tapas video. It was great and so much fun to see the places you went to, and I go to, and some I haven't tried yet; but I will! Thanks for visiting and for doing a great job on this! Glad you enjoyed the great Granada hospitality. I look forward to your next video. Salud!
Glad you enjoyed it David!
my wife and i will go to barcelona in 3 weeks, its our first visit and we are going to try to find some of the places you visit ,we love your videos ,thanks for the great tips
this was amazing
We had a tomato salad at Angelita’s in Madrid and it was an eye opening experience. Simply…. the most amazing taste!
oh James your description of Vermuth is like taken out of my own mouth! I never tried a Vermouth before coming here, and now I have like you fallen in love with the drink! so much that my local Tapas bars here in Madrid, gives me a vermouth without even asking!
Bodegas Castaneda is 100+ years old and you didn't go there, 😮. It's incredible! My #1 tapas spot. Just to give you an idea, almost 8k google reviews. Maybe next time
Great video as always, James... Thank you 😊 Nice to have had them a bit more frequently recently too. I can't imagine how much work goes into filming and editing but I wish we could have a new video every week. Watching these is definitely helping get through the harsh UK winter at the moment 😊 #dreamingoftapas
Hello! I would love to make a video every week! Sadly there is so much work in each one, that I'm not sure it's possible. Thank you for watching!
I know man I need more!
@@spainrevealed Granada is also famous for its teterías (places focused on arab culture, they serve teas and pastries). Granada also have interesting places and objects focused on arab culture.
I hope you have enjoyable days in Granada.
Hello James, I really enjoy your videos, thank you for continuing to educate us on Spain. I was wondering, I don’t think I have ever seen one of your videos on Asturias. Any future plans to make a video there?
Thank you James! This was wonderful. I will be in Granada in June and would love to have a tour with Marta!
Hello! Awesome! You can contact her via the IG link in the description
I can't believe that she didn't take you to Los Diamantes!!!
Glad you enjoyed it xx
Next time Ill have to spend much more time in Granada! Looks absolutely amazing!!
Looks so good 😋🥰
This video made me put Granada on my must go list.
Marta is AMAZING! When in Granada, give her a holla!!
I was just there in Granada and Tapas there are delicious!!
Como extraño Granada, pero te falto ir a Los Diamantes, espero volver pronto!
I'm watching your videos today all day long, I get so hungry and excited to move to the southern part of Spain 😭
I enjoy eating and vino, but I want to live in Spain for the experience of my heritage. I was born in Brooklyn, and Spain and USA New York City is not the same. Totally different life. I want to return to Spain and stay longer. I love your channel because I feel I am learning so much.
My problem is my ability to drink is way less than my ability to eat. I'm happy to pay :)
Always awesome video, thank you.
Was a bit rushed last visit to Granada basically Alhambra and dodging the rain.
Will spend a few days there next trip.
Love the rustic tapas as well.
Thanks once again.
You'll have a few tips on where to eat for your next visit!
Beautiful city Granada
Was hoping to see Bodegas Castañeda on this list. It was my favorite place in Granada.
I was already thinking about my next visit - now I can't wait to go back!
Awesome Carole!
Wow amazing food 🇩🇰🙂
Really enjoyable and informative video. You have an excellent CZcams channel.
I studied in Granada, and while I LOVE the city, I don't think it's the best tapas city in Spain. It is wonderful though with all of it options and the friendliness of the people. Another excellent video, James! I loved seeing where I once lived, and now I have some new places to visit when I travel there next!
So glad you enjoyed it! What was your favourite tapas bar when there?
@@spainrevealed Good question...I was studying there, so my budget was much more limited. Some of my favorites were the neighborhood places nears where I lived: Casa Braulio, Jabugo Bodega, and Bar Los Diamantes 2.
Happy New Year! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo! 🍀
Wine after beer after wine. Maybe your tapas can be read by the contents of the gutter at sunset 🤔👍.
I missed Granada. The family I was with decided on Cordoba instead, so I never made it to Granada. I will during my next visit. It will be first on the list.
Food looks so nice
We grow heirloom tomatoes like those in the video throughout the southeastern USA. They can be found in many backyard summer gardens.
Thanks again for great videos - have been to Granada several times and always enjoyable. Off to visit my Son on Waiheke Island in a few weeks - I feel obliged to try some more of the 30 or so vineyards!
Your videos are so fun and captivating. I'm sure it's a lot of work but we really appreciate it. We're headed there on our next vacation and you have me so excited to do a tapas pub crawl. Well, I'm sure they don't call them pubs there. Do many of the bar employees speak English? I'm wondering if we'll have a hard time ordering.
I was watching Mark Wiens food tour in Spain, now I subscribed in here.I enjoy watching your channel✌️🙏
This was perfect timing for me since my trip to Granada is in Feb. Granada will be my home base while I explore the other regions like, Malaga, Cordoba, etc. Any recommendations on local vineyards?
Nice video! That must be a lot of fun! I live 3 hours away and I haven't been yet, pfff. And Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅
Everything taste amazing with their wine.
Went to Granada with my one year old and he was very keen on the Migas.
This was fun since we will be going to Grenada in May and would like to explore the city beyond Alhambra… that said while we are heavy into tapas we are not much into drinking. Best advice to participate in the tapas culture without alcohol? We attempted it in Madrid last year but it seemed confusing to the waitstaff.
Ask for "non-alcoholic wine"... there is one... or non-alcoholic beer...
You will get a tapa with any drink, you don't need to order any alcohol.
Great video. Thanks. Where are the best areas to stay in Granada to experience the tapas and bar scene ? We are visiting in June, and don't want to make the mistakes of booking hotel near Alhambra and being too far away from all these great spots you highlighted.
I have an Uncle that is thinking about moving to Granada. This is what I need someone to just take me on a tour of the food in their country and give me some history! I think I learn best that way.
Now ALMERIA, I was in love with tapas in Granada until Almeria stole that love.
Specially el Kiosko de Ciudad Jardín.
PS: Do not forget FERIA DEL TOMATE del Perelló, (I think the best tomato all over the world) you will enjoy it a lot.
Guapa la Marta 🔥🔥
Oh yes James, an amazing video. I love Garanada but havent been there for a few years. Is Marta availaible for private tours?. I would love to spend a couple of days with her to find some of these wonderful places you visited. Another most enjoyable video James. Keep them coming and give my best regards to Yoli and Lucia. Hasta la proxima.
Yep! You can contact her via Instagram in the description. :)
👍👍👍 Thanks a lot James. Can't wait to get back there.
You're turning this into a culinary programme! I would have liked to see something of the neighbourhood of the tapa places too. And something about the climate because normally we think Granada is a very hot city. Do they use heating in their houses and in the restaurants/bars? What's the temperature/weather like?
Definitely need to do a video about historical Granada :)
actually it can even snow in winter, we have the tallest mountain of the iberian peninsula and go skiing within 30 minutes of the city center :)
James is there only for the food He he.😃
Yes, tomatoes here in Spain are so delicious. Valencian tomatoes are also delightful and gigantic. If I had to pick which tapas I would love to try in Granada, that rice (arroz caldoso) from El Ricón de Rodri would be my most desired one. In fact, I would want a whole dish of it. And of course, I was delighted when the vermouth drinking took place at La Trasienta. I enjoy caracoles, but I am not adept at using the toothpick method to get one. I often miss getting the snail out the first time, no matter how many times I've been shown how to do it. So I avoid the frustration. This was a fun video and it was also good to see you drinking alcohol while eating tapas this time around. That's how I know for sure that it was a James Blick video. 🤣
haha yes, we took a break on the last one :)
Granada la ciudad más bella
Beautiful Granada¡ I’m in love with so many cities and towns of southern Spain that it would be hard for me to say which is more beautiful. But if you’re ever in Malaga go to the central market and buy yourself an assortment of olives, a seafood salad and some bread, and don’t forget to buy a good bottle of good Spanish wine. I promise you that you’ll be preparing the best tapas ever.
Hats off to all the beautiful people of southern Spain!
¡Feliz Navidad!
Can you say more about the Malaga market? I am going there at the end of January, staying in Malaga for 4 weeks. We will be with friends, staying in an apartment with a kitchen. What other foods would you recommend getting at the market? I like red wines; are there some specific wines you would recommend trying?
@@GadgetNeil Which is the best wine? The one you like best. Malaga has a great variety of wines.
We stayed at a hotel that is close to the central market and we would visit it every morning to buy fruits. Don’t forget that Malaga is a costal town and as such has all kinds of seafood.
One last thing, the central market closes early… at around 2:00pm.
Check my Malaga video --- we cover the market :)
@@spainrevealed Thank you for your CZcams channel… I just visited Spain and the information of your videos was very informative. I love Spain!
I love this video from Granada. The food looks incredible. I’m thinking about going to Spain at the end of next month. I been thinking about going there since I was a teen. Where In Spain should I go to for the best food, hotels, and sightseeing? Im looking for the most authentic food. Thanks
I was only in Granada for a couple of hours for sightseeing but now I know I have to go back for at least a few days just to eat!
I always become hungry after watching your new video 😅😂
Can you do Sevilla? what are you recommendations for Sevilla?
I resonate with the guide a lot. I'd love to try snails. They look really tasty, but I'm afraid of the texture. I've tried oysters once and I gagged hahaha
From an Irish perspective you’d be lucky to get a pint of a popular beer for €7.60 in the nicer side of Dublin never mind wine and free, fresh home made food.
-¡Oh Granada ennoblecida / por todo el mundo nombrada,
Hasta aquí fuiste cautiva, / y agora ya libertada!
Do they have the menu in English as well?
I miss Yoli!! La penúltima de María is the good place on granada for eat jamón asado.. kiss i loved this vídeo and love granada
Yoli will be back jeje
Almeria tapas is the best. Exactly like Granada, included in the drink price, get a choice from a menu but there is a lot more fish and is a higher quality.
Must check it out!
There's a bar in Padúl, just south of Granada, that serves huge plates of fish with each drink. A different fish or seafood each time, more than anyone can eat after just a couple of copas. Fantastic place. A bit of a shitty area but...hey...
Would you please post a list of the venues.
Do 6 chips count as a tapa or just a garnish to a tapa? 🤔
Im interested to know, what happens if you don't drink alcohol, do you only order tapas?
You guys are posting as infrequently as i am now 🤣
spain = meat vs Italy = pasta & as little meat as possible, but i love both the good they so different & same at the same time - love for live
I want to visit Marta :)
I haven't had eggs with wine, but in Spain, it's so normal.
La Tana to this day is the only place I've been to on the planet where I have eaten, enjoyed, and fallen in love with raw tomato
Are those arbequina olives @ 4:33? And shouldn't you be doing an episode about olives? :)
Ni Casa Julio, ni Bodegas Castañeda, ni La Sitarilla, ni el Bar León?...
Very touristic/posh but not the most "granaíno" experience. You need to taste "Calicasas", berenjenas fritas con miel, ensalada tropical and cazón. Take note for the next visit.
Greetings from Granada!
Do they clean, devein those cambas?
De-veining isn't really a thing here. But the shrimp are clean :)
@@spainrevealedgood to know.
She's pretty
The food all looks amazing in Spain, but can you get enough healthy vegetables? Everything looks like a side dish to drink.
