  • Cuenca is perhaps the most magical town in Spain. So Yoly and I decided to spend a weekend at the Parador and explore this beautiful hilltop town just 2 hours from Madrid. And we had the fortune to sleep in the beautiful Parador hotel. Venga, let’s go! 🥝

      Yes, it is. I was visiting family in late Sept, 2019, in Tenerife, then 2nd and 3rd week of October in the Andalusia area. I fell in love with all of southern Spain. As soon as the travel bands are lifted, I am heading back to Nerja, and I will tour Andalusia for 14 days.

      My husband and l also traveled to Spain in late 2019. Barcelona for almost 2 weeks, staying in 2 different hotels/ areas for conference logistics, was a wonderful experience. We went on four Devour Tours and EVERY one was special and helped us to create some wonderful memories!
      We love that you are back making videos of travel and food and adding art to your discussions of history and architecture is lovely! I took a photo of a painting at the Fundacio Joan Miro because it reminded me of Yolli! It's called Flamenco and I'll pull it from my files and post it one day for you to see it!
      Barcelona was not my first trip to Europe, but it was one that l was able to enjoy the most, because of your tours and the videos. I was very comfortable sightseeing alone while my husband was working during the day and l do believe a lot of that was due to your videos and the BEST guides of Devour Tours. XO

    Hey James, if you are looking for another place to visit I really recommend my hometown Zamora. As one of the smallest cities in Spain is often forgotten but it's only 3 hours away from Madrid and it's full of modernist and romanic architecture, it's also amazing for tapas! I miss it dearly since I've been in the UK for the past 5 years. Every person I've reccomended them to go have really enjoyed it. Amazing wine area aswell :)

      Hi Lucia. I like Zamora and the surrounding area. I live about two hours away, in Chaves, Portugal. Can you believe that when we go down to the Algarve to escape the cold at Christmas time we always take the Spanish highways, from Verín to Zamora, then down the Autovia past Salamanca to Huelva and Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal. You are right that few tourists make it to Zamora. But Zamora gets more tourists than Palencia or Ourense. Those places have a hard time attracting travellers. Are you working as a nurse in the UK?

    My wife and I stayed in Cuenca a couple of years ago and lodged in the Hostal San Pedro which you walk past at 11:41 The rooms look directly over the gorge. I remember we had a fine meal somewhere on Calle San Pedro and all the tourists were Spanish. We started the day in Ubeda in Andalusia, drove through the Despenaperros Pass on the old road, had lunch in the remarkable Plaza Mayor of Almagro before driving to Belmonte Castle. By the time we got to Cuenca it was dark but we parked at the top and had a meal in the same place as you. I'm afraid our annual visits to Spain this year have been ruined but we'll make it in October, God willing. I'm glad you had a wonderful time and shared some moments.

    You 2 hit stride on this one. Having been to Cuenca and fallen head over heels (fortunately not literally off a balcon de casa colgada) with the city. I took my daughter on a 5 week trip through Spain and a bit of France with no destination and we ended up in Cuenca without a plan. We stayed very near the restaurant you found the first night. It was not as uptown as the Parador, but was fine and since at the top of town, gave us a long uphill walk home after happily wandering around all day. We also stopped in at the Cathedral in time for mass. It was a stunning experience. I agree that the Cathedral in Cuenca is one of the most beautiful I have ever experienced. Your video took me back to what I remember walking around the town and the essence of the place. I would agree that white wine was not the thing to drink with traditional comida manchega. Once you switched to a hearty red, all was well. Thank you so much for this fantastic video.

    The "no" printed on the screen while Yoly reluctantly says "ok" to agree to climbing the hill gave me quite a chuckle. I'm guessing this is another touch from Carlos. :)
    All around this is a great video. The opening sequence had me smiling, especially knowing some of the back story (as Paul mentioned as well) and then the first shots of Cuenca and the dramatic introduction really set the stage for the rest of the video. I've never been to Cuenca in my previous visits to Spain, but it's on my list of places to see now. Perhaps in the spring when it's not quite so hot though! :P Thanks for the introduction to such an amazing city!

    I liked the idea of doing the video in two days. This was one of your best videos because it showed more of the sights to see and less of you eating. I am more of a gourmand than a gourmet. The view across the iron bridge over the gorge is beautiful. I checked out the prices of the Parador for the weekend of August 21 to August 24 and you pay 554 euros without breakfast. That works out to be 181,66 a night. Not cheap. The architecture is totally different but a place that stands out for the houses painted in different colors is Guanajuato, Mexico. Two trips from Cuenca requiring more time would be to head north on A-1704 and CM-2105 to Albarracín and to head south on N220 to Alarcón. Both are well worth a visit for the castle ruins and the views.

      You can definetely find Spain in México, the spanish reproduced everything they had in América. Well you can see it in any old spanish territory.

      @@jacoboarca8516 Even in California with the missions founded by Junípero Serra. The only thing you can't find in Mexico, I presume, is a public statue of Hernán Cortès. President López Portillo had a bust put up at the Hospital de Jesús in Mexico City but when he left office it was taken down. According to the LA Times there is a statue of the Conquistador at a Cuernavaca Hotel. Poor Cortés. Of course a lot of indigenous people were killed by his troops but he wasn't a murderer like Pizarro

      @jacoboarca8516 Před 3 lety

      @@rayvogensen2983 I am not talking about statues remembering Spain, probably is going to be difficult. I mean about the architecture and the more of 3000 cities Spain built in América. The city you mentioned before, Guanajuato is one of thousands Spain left there. Cathedrals, universities, etc etc, has spanish blend. I don't remember the name of the person who said that, but he was an important member of the U.S goverment, refering the U.S has too much more with Spain than with Great Britain.
