Besides this tangent of Star Wars: yeah, it is making a mockery of actual criminal offences. The whole thing is so twisted and ‘precisely the opposite of what would actually happen’ that it worries me that the younger viewers of their channel and ones like it (which, let’s be honest, are the bulk of their viewership), they’ll see this shit, naively believe it (‘cos, common: kids...), and subconsciously underestimate the potential of an unstable adult who doesn’t care how much they shatter your innocent & trusting “flowery lens unto he world and their role within it” - so to speak.
I remember that there’s 2 events in my life that shattered my ‘sense of feeling safe’ that were intentionally inflicted by my dad as a sort of “heavy dose of [his] reality”-(he was brought up through the Spanish Civil War against Franco on the side of the rebels, followed by escaping with his family (at a young age) to South Africa, then moving to Brazil, and finally migrating, in his teenage years, to Australia - a heaven to them during the 1960s-1970s - as, all the way from when he was born to until high school, he was physically and mentally brutalised by every institution he attended (mostly by teachers and authority figures, too), and on multiple occasions (especially during his travels through Africa) was nearly gunned-down by the guerrilla warfare and border/turf patrols. As a result: his view of the world compared to the 1st-world lifestyle/privilege I got to enjoy growing up in, was a “false dream” that could never prepare his kids for ‘the worst’).
The first was when I was 6 and he pinned me to the ground during what was meant to be just a ‘tickle battle of fun’ and he verbally made a point that I was “too confident in my capacity to fight against a grown man; that I had absolutely zero chance of winning; and that I had to learn when to grovel on the ground when it was the only chance for survival”, so he kept assaulting my ribs - “tickling” was long-gone - and said, “if you won’t admit that you’re below me in the hierarchy by saying ‘uncle’, then I’ll continue this forever”. I tried pleading, but the pain and the fear in the sensations I was feeling in my ribs was escalating like nothing else I’d ever felt-so, although I said it through gritted teeth, I begrudgingly oozed the words “uncle”. I’ll never forget that one.
The second time (and much shorter this time): my mum and I had been childishly arguing over our values and personal space for months during my mid teenage years, and apparently she’d been dealing with a violent stalker at the same time - my sister and I had no idea about that part - so her stress was climbing and climbing, her mental-health spiralling down the drain. I was lost and confused as to why my parents would never negotiate my desires and it certainly didn’t help that they had terrible communication skills. My dad snapped at some point, chased me, teased me against a wall by the throat, lifted me in the air, and warned me that if I continued to oppose his and his wife’s authority ‘as someone lower in the food-chain’, I’d regret it. (PS: my father was a martial artist expert, black belt in 3 different martial arts, and a teacher for over a decade, so a 16 year old me had no chance, even with a non-ballistic weapon, to beat him). Frankly, the power of a real adult-male with 40 years of strength in age to his existence, was a terrifying realisation of just how helpless I was against an adult male with malicious intentions.
Now: albeit I went off tangent a bit cos I really despise my dad for those violent acts that could have been resolved through words, but the real point is that he did help me understand just how vulnerable I can be to a malevolent person with the power to accomplish their goal(s), but also just how important contingency plans are for whenever I only have myself to depend on.
The videos by these prank artists (if you can call them that...) really mislead young audiences about the severity of these dangers that they ‘attempt’ to recreate. Those hulking predators vs “girl alone in a hotel room”, ... she’s fucked (lel, both metaphorically and ... literally...); almost all (if not all) of those other situations? A horrific set of events are about to play out, in actuality - and they won’t merely be “less than 10 minutes in length”. The victim? A toy to be discarded afterwards; a ghost of their former self. Battered, bruised, uncared for, mentally defiled-life will never be the same as they feel what it’s like to be denied even the right to complain, and as their screams are treated as “sweet music”, and their outlook on themselves as a ‘human being with a value and with rights’ is completely destroyed as them, alone, are stuffed down into the depths of hell without a single choice in the matter. Just like my dad held me down as a kid and destroyed my sense of ‘inherent safety as an equal citizen and a valuable human being’, they too will reinvent their personal concept of their own fate from ‘I have value’ to ‘if I can’t kill them first, then I’m just an object that barely - or maybe doesn’t - exist’. It’s a terror I’d wish upon no one who’s innocent-but this kind of content makes light of this reality to such an extent that you’d think they were parodying this horrific & depressing truth; that is, if it wasn’t for their message at the end of every one of their videos.
Honestly: hope they go to hell.
