Yeah you're absolutely spot on Thomas. I have to admit I do not remember seeing that cover artwork back in the day
Sound can cause deep fear, Tobe Hooper knew exactly what he was doing, the sound of the door slamming shut,the screams, the strange screeches...genius, they are intentional so you never relax
The problem I think when it comes to this version of Texas Chainsaw is the Dolby Atmos. I completely understand what you are saying when it comes to sound. But that's not what's happening with this release. I'm irritated when I listened to it. It's nothing to do with being relaxed or anything like that. The sound is vulgar and annoying to listen to. I knocked on the DTS 5.1 and it sounds so much better
It's an amazing boxset Keith,so glad I got it,well done to John for getting it for you, I know what you mean about the Sound but it think it's like that to make you feel uncomfortable,All the Best Gary 👍🏻
Hey Gary. Your absolutely correct the scene is very intense and it's meant to sound that way but like I said in the video it still doesn't take away from the fact that it is irritating to listen to. I'm sure the Dolby Atmos has enhanced all of them scenes and maybe that's why it irritated me so much this time around
This is my definitive version of TCM as well, unless we get a bust version. Great review Keith!
Like I said in the video Nathan that is me done when it comes to buying any more Texas Chainsaw editions. It does not get better than this and I don't think it ever will

@@millerman9991 I actually pre-ordered it 2 months before street date from my local supplier. And I'm glad I did, because it sold out right away. And I completely agree - I don't ever see me ordering any other release of Texas as this one clearly ticks all the boxes, but that thanks for pointing out the sound issues.
Thankfully John was able to save my ass with this release. I think it's completely gone now and I was very fortunate. I really need to stay on top of releases like this and not let this happen again.

Hey Patrick. I'm not sure what to tell you when it comes to this movie. I think I said everything that I needed to say in terms of my enjoyment for the movie and maybe you will love it or chances are you could hate it. It's one of them movies. It does look fantastic on 4K it has to be said but bear in mind it has its limits. Check it out and see what you think Patrick and if you do let me know what you think
Its a fantastic film and one of my all time favourites, but if you have heard of the films reputation , all the hype surrounding it and read rave reviews you maybe disappointed . I was lucky enough to make it to my early 20's and I had never heard anything about the movie and went into it completely blind and was terrified the entire time. It just filled me with a sense of dread and I thought the entire thing was a white knuckle experience. It had an authentic feel to it as well. On the flip side I'd heard all the hype about the Exorcist , how people passed out in cinemas and how terrifying it was and when I watched a bootleg VHS of it as a child I was bored and have never re-visited it since. The Exorcist is probably great and it always gets glowing reviews but it had been so hyped up I don't think it could've been anything but a let down. Sometimes we can go into movies with our expectations too high I guess.

The dinner scene was one of the most disturbing and unnerving I've seen in a film. Apparently the heat in the house when they were filming was so excessive everybody was going crazy, there's not much actual acting going on there.
Again I'm not familiar with the history of this movie. I had no idea they actually done that to the house at the end of this movie. When you actually watched the scene it does make sense especially after reading this comment. I might actually see that scene in a different light now. Thank you so much for sharing that with me

Hey John. I was meant to contact you a couple of days ago to let you know about HMV. I'm hoping they will bring one to blanchardstown. I say there testing the waters to see how it will fare in Dublin. Apparently vinyl is the reason to why it's coming back. If you said that to me 10 years ago I would have laughed.
Hopefully, Second Sight will announce a release date for The Hitcher soon. Think Zavvi is having more issues. My last 3 order's all delayed, although The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was due to manufacturing issue as even Second Sight admitted they hadn't received there own full stock initially.

Love this edition! Got it through Diabolik pre order. Everything from Second Sight is fantastic! I am trying to get there limited edition “When a Stranger Calls”, also will be adding their limited editions of Session 9, and The Strangers
When a Stranger Calls was my first ever edition that I bought from second sight and from there it was love at first sight. I'm actually trying to pick up everything from them regardless of what I think of the movies themselves. I think a label like this deserves my money particularly when you consider the effort they put into everyone of their releases. Cannot wait to see what's next and fingers crossed it will be the Hitcher

Seems like you and John have quite the friendship. Nice of him to send you that. Amazon needs to get their act together. I was pretty impressed by the picture, for a very grainy film they did an amazing job of cleaning it up. The atmos felt intentional, not atmospheric but made to be uncomfortable. Don't know if it's just me. Great unboxing Keith as always.
If there's one great thing that I can take away from CZcams is my friendship with John. We both connected with each other right from the start and we speak almost regularly. He's the real article. I can tell you Aaron if the new Atmos was designed to irritate you then they have absolutely succeeded because my god I nearly bounced my head off a wall listen to this movie. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I have never been this conflicted when it comes to sound. Maybe the next time I watch it won't irritate me as much. I will have to wait and see. Bought this on release, amazing boxset,Second Sight can't do wrong...I agree about the sound,the constant screaming from the main lady got seriously on my nerves too 😳
Wow I am actually relieved to hear that it wasn't just me and it's not a case of simply turning down the volume. No matter how low it is it will still irritate me. I'm glad I'm not the only person that had that issue with the movie. It's a wonderful release and I've had a great time watching the special features on this. Nice to see you do this boxset. I agree with you on the quality, but that's something I can look through. It's so extremely low budget. But I understand you.
I also got an extra set of postcards from my Second Sight pre-order. It was placed on top of the boxset. But it just fits in the boxset. I only wish second sight would add some posters to their sets. I actually hang my favorite posters on my poster wall. And they missed it with sets like this or Drive.
That's a good point when it comes to posters. I'm almost certain scream factory give posters away with certain releases and I would love to see second sight do more of that. At least the postcards fit inside the box this time unlike the dawn of the Dead release where they didn't. I wanted to buy it directly from second sight but as I said in the video it was sold out. I'm just happy that I was able to get it in the end. The movie has it's issues and I'm hoping I can look past them sometime in the future but as of now they do somewhat irritate me. Doesn't mean it will in the future. Thanks for checking it out Robert

Gresr is looking packaging. Chainsaw Masacre is such an iconic horror film, bug ive never been a huge fan of it TBH. Yes, it's probably the Dolby Atmos that makes the sounds do jarring in those scenes you mentioned.
I am just like yourself Paul. As you said it's an incredibly iconic horror movie and I want to love it as much as everyone else does but I'm not there. I'm hoping someday I will. Its the same in the Netherlands. Second Sight and some Arrow Limited Editions are not available to buy on Amazon UK. Very strange
Wow I honestly thought it was only happening to me in Ireland. I actually sent Amazon another email and surprise surprise I got no reply. This is very strange because I don't have any issue with arrow Video. Try and make sense of it if you can because I can't
It's frustrating living here in Ireland I've had the same issues and it cost a packet for me to get it delivered from Second Sight and nearly a month after it's release it finally came, grinds my gears so it does, but worth it in the end because it's a tasty release, but good news, HMV are reopening on Henry Street Dublin next month, that's a win.
I couldn't believe when I heard about HMV reopening. It's only 45 minutes from where I live so I will frequently be going up there and the thoughts of actually physically buying movies again is something that genuine excites me. Are you anyway close to it yourself if you don't mind me asking

Wicklow is a lovely part of Ireland . I really need to visit again sometime. It'll be great going to HMV again and you never know maybe someday we'll bump into each other there.

The picture quality is by no means a revelation in terms of 4K picture. But when you consider the fact that it is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre I think they done a wonderful job on it and you should be well happy with it

Really sad to hear that you don't like the movie as much as me. Maybe i liked it more because i had such low expectations when i first watched it. I thought it would be a sloshy and extremely gory movie but the first half is actually quite slow. I loved the relationship of the family in the movie. A really entertaining and well realized hierarchy in the family. Also that last chase sequence is unforgettable.
Don't get me wrong I don't hate the movie I just wish I loved it more than I do. But these things can grow in time and that's what I'm hoping will happen. I remember this movie being banned in Ireland for so many years and when I watched it for the first time I could not for the life of me understand why it was. Just like yourself I was expecting it to be an absolute gorefest but it's the complete opposite. I kind of like that about the movie it almost reminds me of Halloween.

One of my favourite horror movies of all time - definitely in my top 5. Takes about 30mins or so for the mayhem to start but once it does it ramps up into pure mayhem. Picked up this 4k edition and watched it with the gf who had never seen it before and she couldn’t believe what she was watching - especially the end dinner table scene - not bad for a movie made in 1974 😮😂😂
There is no question this movie is an absolute classic. For me it does have a few issues but their issues I'm hoping I can get over in time. I have to admit I showed my fiance this movie and she wasn't too impressed. I don't think she'll ever sit down and watch it again. I completely understand though
Great edition of one of my favourite horror movies. However, l had a bit of difficulty getting my copy. Despite pre-ordering with Zavvi, it sold out with them explaining that all pre-orders placed before mine would be prioritised and there sometimes was not enough stock to fulfil all orders (keep in mind I pre-ordered a minute or two after receiving an email notification). I did manage to get a copy when there was a re-stock but not the first time Zavvi have let me down. As you said, this feels like the definitive edition of this movie, and I can’t see me needing to purchase again. Anyway, enough of my ranting - great video as always Keith.
I have to admit I do not agree with Zavvis policies when it comes to pre-orders. As far as I'm concerned if you pre-ordered a copy you should get it and nobody should be prioritized. Zavvi have a knack for doing that unfortunately. Thankfully you got it in the end and that's the most important thing. That TCM movie is my favorite of the franchise Keith very cool indeed I need my own copy of that second sight TCM. You know Keith you have some of the best movie collections I have ever seen before and rare versions of movies I had no idea were made and available 🆒👍💿

It's already happened again because there was a beautiful 4K release of Jaws 2 on 4K Blu-ray and there was only three thousand of them. They're already sold out and rest assured I went on to eBay and there was seven of them on sale going for over €100. It's an absolute joke

Yeah I read it yesterday. I had a rare day off and as soon as I had a chance I read the whole thing. It was actually a very good read
As far as shipping to Ireland goes the issue is likely to do with customs and postage costs.
No it's definitely nothing to do with Customs or postage because it's only second sight releases. There must be something more to it. Maybe it's something to do with distribution rights.
This is a edition that has had me struggling back and forth do I want it or not. The box and everything looks great and it's a Second Sight release. I really can't remember how much I liked the original TCM. With Dawn of the Dead there was no question but with TCM I'm thinking maybe the standard 4k release is enough for me.. let's see. Great video Keith and thanks for sharing.
BTW what are you're thought on Titans releasing their future editions in a rigid box? I think it's the right move as long as the pricing is kept reasonable.
I think if you're second guessing yourself Sebastian then maybe you're better off sticking with the standard. If you have the movie already on 4K from turbine apparently you're getting nothing of an upgrade in terms of picture quality.
As for Titans of cult I was very happy to hear everything that they are doing. My only concern is it's going to be £10 dearer than it was. Something's telling me they're going to be very similar to the film vault range and look how much they cost. I hope I'm wrong we will have to wait and see. Thanks so much for stopping by Sebastian

I'm definitely going to check out that Chucky TV series and hopefully I can pick up that limited edition set. I have the arrow Video edition of Texas Chainsaw and I'm happy with that if I'm completely honest Ryan. I'm not the biggest fan of it

I have not seen this movie in about 20 years and also not the biggest fan either. you might have the same issues I had. Got this because its a classic and want it in my horror collection.
I think this is one of those times where I prefer the special features over the movie itself and it's probably why I picked up this edition of it. That and the fact that it's absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for checking it out Allan
I am not a fan of this movie Keith, I watched it again about six months ago and I still felt the same about it when I first watched it, its just OK, I don't even own it. I did actually did enjoyed the remake, but again its not the best. At least you have a nice boxset to add to your amazing collection. As you are a die hard collector I guess you have to own the best quality you can get. I do like the art work and its got your colours.
I am trying to get there when it comes to this movie and it's just not happening at the moment. I want to love it but as I said in the video there is issues that really frustrate me and I'm not sure if I will ever get over them. You know me Gary I will always try and buy the best release available and that's exactly what I got. It's not all doom and gloom because the special features have been fantastic and as a matter of fact I've preferred watching them than the movie itself. For that reason alone it was worth getting this edition. I am a huge fan of the remake believe it or not. I actually think it's better than the original. Not loving this movie is insane to me 😂 this movie along with the original evil dead and the original Halloween are perfect movies
There is two great examples that you mentioned. Evil Dead and Halloween. Probably two of my favourite horror movies of all time. Unfortunately for me as of right now the Texas Chainsaw is nowhere near as good as those two. I'm hoping someday it will. I really enjoy the movie but I don't love it

Don't get me wrong Laura I don't hate the movie I just wish I loved it more than I do. I'm hoping it's one of those things that I can get over these things that do bother me with it. I didn't get to mention it in the video but I am a huge fan of the remake and I do prefer it over the original. You can't say it that too often.
@@millerman9991 my issues with this movie is the lack of gore it just takes me out of it when you see someone chainsawed to death and there is no blood on the Saw or Leatherface lol
I have to admit Mark I disagree about that in terms of its violence. I think it's the lack of blood that gives this movie it's power over you. Very similar to What Halloween Done.
@@markpugh6808 You have a valid point, I don't know how true this is, but I'm sure I heard it in a making of documentary about the film that the director was aiming for a PG or U rating and was apparently stunned and perplexed when it got an R rating lol .. I don't know how true that is but it might explain the lack of blood and gore. Its always puzzled me how he expected it to be a family friendly movie. Anyway I think it had to be cut a lot and maybe they de-saturaed the blood somehow . Or maybe I'm just clutching at straws and making excuses for a movie I love lol
This is most annoying for this film released on 4k, I bought the Turbine steelbook 4k release and it looked fine but then second sight released their 4k so I just picked up the standard 4k of that, as iam not a big fan of this film like yourself Keith, the second sight transfer looks a bit cleaner and less noisier than th Turbine release but the differences are miniumum , it does frustrate me somewhat that we are now sometimes getting up to three 4k releases of the same film. There's one thing having a mastered in 4k blu ray disc (such as Arrow puts out) then having a physical 4k disc with HDR but t have up to three releases of the same film on 4k transfers that all have Dolby Vision is really frustrating. This is a nice set but SS are not releasing the films as Steelbooks but if you want the best transfer of the film then as a Collector, having to buy the film again is somewhat annoying
I completely understand where you're coming from Ethan and Texas Chainsaw is one of them movies that seemed to be getting multiple 4K transfers. Thankfully I opted to stay away from the turbine release because I knew second sight we're bringing this out. The only other 4K release that I had was the midnight classics and that never came with HDR so I am seeing a very sizable upgrade over that release. I had a feeling there wouldn't be too much of a difference between turbines and this one in terms of picture quality. Like I said in the video This is definitely the last time I am buying this movie. @@millerman9991 they did it with Labyrinth, initial 4k release back in 2017/2018 and then they released it again only a few years ago but this time with Dolby Vision, I haven't bothered upgrading to the dolby one but it's annoying to say the least,
I had no idea they did it again with Labyrinth. I'm almost certain they done it with the ghostbuster movies as well. This is the last thing you want to be seeing in terms of 4k
The Second Sight artwork is based on the original UK VHS cover.

@@millerman9991 Actually the artwork first appeared on the Super 8mm editions which were released in full film and abridged versions in the late 1970s by Iver Films. The VHS/Beta releases again from Iver were issued a year or two later.

I am the same but for other reason , I actually really liked the 2003 movie and it’s prequel , maybe because Lee R Emery stole every scene and I enjoyed the back story more.

I never had a chance to mention it in the video but I am a huge fan of the remake and I think it's a better movie if I'm completely honest. I have not seen the prequel in years and I need to revisit that movie. I absolutely agree with you about Lee R Emery. An absolute masterclass of casting. I never got around to playing the Friday the 13th game and maybe because I'm not big into multiplayer games. I think somebody told me that there might be a story mode in that game and maybe I need to check it out. As per usual Conor thank you so much again for stopping by. The f..kin sound is an insult! 😓 I literally had to turn it down!! When leatherface was chasin her thru the woods !! An the dinning scene.. is jus 😐!! You can’t even gel with the villains of the movie either! 😐 the only good thing about the film is the cinematography and the legacy the character of leatherface created! - in a way.. I regret buyin this edition.. BUT the collector in me does appreciate the set!

I am right there with you Alexander. I honestly do not no why this movie gets as much praise as it does. Like I said in my video I find I'm always irritated when I watch it and that's the last thing you want to be feeling when watching a movie. Having said that I am still unbelievably proud to own that release and you should actually see my Texas Chainsaw collection. It's ridiculous to think a movie that I don't particularly like but yet I have such a wonderful collection. I think it all comes down to Leatherface himself and The Legacy of that character. I'm still hoping someday the movie will grow on me but I honestly can't see it happening

I agree. The wheelchair guy is annoying. The ONLY thing keeping this release from being perfect is the William Friedkin interview with Tobe Hooper from the Dark Sky edition.

Now that is a surprise because like I said in the video I thought this would be the most definitive version to own and maybe I should look into getting the dark Sky Edition just to get that interview. I love Biily Friedkin so I had to get it. The interview is nearly an hour long.. At least now I'm pretty confident I have bought the last edition necessary of this movie. Whew!
@@millerman9991 - Other Special Features that are missing is the 'New Deleted Scenes and Ottakes (15 mins) from the 40th Anniversary Blu-ray release. These were longer and different to the included Deleted Scenes (25 mins) on the Second Sight 4K release.
Family Portrait (60mins) is also missing on both the Second Sight and MPI / Dark Sky 4K UHD Blu-ray releases which can be found on the 2016 and 2022 Turbine (German) 4K UHD plus some 40th Anniversary Blu-ray releases.
I think I should be well covered considering I have this movie five times and all five are very deluxe releases. I need to check all the features and do a comparison between the lot.
@@millerman9991 - I plan on watching this Second Sight 4K release then rewatching it whilst listening to all *five* audio commentaries then watching the rest of the entire franchise in the order the movies were released. Not sure whether to save that for Halloween or just do it sooner…
