I agree, Filmarena should take the money on the same day they ship the product. Cinemuseum is the same and they take a long time to ship the product.
I actually pre-ordered a movie a while back from cinemuseum and when I went to cancel it they refunded my money only for it was €15 less and they said it was to do with being penalised for cancelling it. Never went near them again

I hadn't even heard of this version until I saw your video. This is definitely the version I would want. Unfortunately, I managed to miss out on every single special edition of this movie that has come out, and I'm one of those people who refuses to pay hundreds of dollars on eBay for something. This is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. I own the 4K, but I'm really dissatisfied with the lack of special features and how the slipcover is identical to the cover art itself. Maybe someday I'll manage to get my hands on a special edition that doesn't break the bank. Lol. Thanks for the great video! 🙂
To be honest there is no way I would ever spend hundreds of Dollars on releases like this so I'm right there with you. If I'm completely honest I picked it up from filmarena for 80 Euro and that was as much as I wanted to spend on it. Bear in mind it's one of my favorite movies of all time aswell. My advice is be patient shop around and fingers crossed you will find a release that best suits your collection. I agree a 100%. You should never be forced to pay for a pre order right away. Basically they are getting a interest free loan from you to fund their business with it.

I just bought my first Film Arena 4K due to one of your reviews - I just had a look at the site and it felt like going home! So i bought the Justice League 4K. Really wanted this one as well to go with my Universal Limited Edition and Titans of Cult one , but its just too expensive . Its not a cheap site but the value stays and goes up with time so they are a great investment. Great vid as usual .
Incredibly enough I actually purchase the Justice League myself. I bought both Editions the Blu-ray and 4K because you get a special hard box gift if you buy both. How amazing does that edition look. I know they can be very expensive but when you consider everything you're getting and not only that but you have to factor in the rarity as well I think it's worth every penny.

I was also not a fan of them charging money at the pre-order. But thankfully they came through for us. I would love to get my hands on the Cine-Museum edition, but it was too expensive and seemed somehow risky having not ordered from them before. Glad I didn’t, since reading your unfortunate experience with them. Although, their edition of Poltergeist looks pretty great!
I also collect all kinds of formats of this Carpenter horror masterpiece be it on laserdisc, vhs, dvd, blu-ray or 4K. One can never have enough ;)

Huge apologies Mark for not remembering your name. I shot this video twice and the first time I shot it I said your name but I wasn't sure if it was right so I took it out on the second one. I wouldn't mind them taking the money straight away if they would at least honour the release date but unfortunately they never do. CineMuseum do bring out some fantastic releases but unfortunately after everything that happened with them I could never do business with them again. I seen their Lost Boys edition they bringing out as well and it looks amazing. But it could be 2 years from now by the time it comes out. Hey Keith. This release is still available over at Filmarena. The cost isn't bad at about $80 but shipping to the US is another $75. I've already got the 4K from Shout! so I passed on this one. Nice review brother.
I have to admit I was very surprised to see that it never sold out considering how limited it is and not only that but we are talking about the thing. It's such a beautiful release. One of so many that I have for the thing. Thank you for checking it out

Great video as always! This made my hurry over to filmarena to purchase the movie myself, and luckily it’s still available.
Just received the movie today and to my surprise I got number 0483, a lower number than yours, so apparently they don’t ship them out in number order?
You said this is your definitive version of the movie. I totally agree with the packaging is amazing, and probably the coolest looking edition of The Thing. But regarding the content I personally prefer the German Turbine release. It includes the TV cut of the movie, along with the soundtrack CD, and also the 2011 remake of the movie. Plus it also contains the novel Who Goes There (unfortunately it’s in German, but still).

Somebody explained to me how the numbering system works with filmarena and I am honestly not even going to try and explain it because I still don't get it. I missed out on the turbine Edition and I'm trying everything to get it. I have every other turbine release that they've done similar to the thing and I would love to add it to my collection. Yeah I purchased The Thing on VHS, DVD, especially on Bluray and 4K UHD several times. I really love the movie and I think it's one of Carpenter's best films. Although I think after 4K I'm pretty much done buying it again but who knows maybe 8K is around the corner.
My god could you imagine an 8K transfer for the thing. I don't see that happening unfortunately. It's one of them movies where I'm ok owning numerous copies of it and I'm hoping this will be the last one. Thank you so much for checking it out

I didn't purchase the CineMuseum edition because I won't have anything to do with that company after the trouble I had with them. I pre-ordered a movie from them and I decided to cancel it and when they refunded my money they left me €15 short because I was being penalised for cancelling. I got The Thing on 4k a few months ago, and WOW! Probably the biggest improvement in picture quality out of all the 4k discs I own. Definitely a must buy for any horror fan

The artwork you where talking about is from a German steelbook release from a few years back. I never bought it as I bought the scream factory Steel instead.

Hey Keith why you laughing? Congrats on picking up John Carpenters The Thing, it's a fantastic film aha. One of the few films worth a triple dip, quadro dip lol. Really nice edition and shame it came available aty the worst time for me or i would have picked it up aswell. The titans steelbook with this outer case is unbeatable for me. I tried to pre order from them aswell and it was some system where certain people had first dibs and i wasted my time trying to order it at 12 czech time. I do love those lenticular magnets for steelbooks, wish we could get more of them. We have so many disks for The Thing now that we never have to worry about not having access to it.

I just managed to pick up a copy of this from an eBay collector for £90, dunno if it's a good price for an opened copy but he's kept it in a protector since he bought it and he's included that too.

It's just over £109 plus shipping so if the seller is telling the truth and it's mint then I've saved maybe £20-£30 with shipping.

Wonderful edition from Filmarena. I never brought directly from them. Strange to take the money straight away but Rarewaves do the same on pre orders.
I'm not the biggest fan of it because I guarantee you if I went to cancel this order it would have been a nightmare trying to get my money back. I went through something very similar with CineMuseum and I couldn't get all my money back because I was penalised for cancelling.

Hey Chay. No I didn't pick up the Top Gun Ultimate Fan edition because honestly I didn't think it was worth the money. When I realised it was available everywhere I decided to cancel my pre-order and wait for it to go down in price. It looks like a fantastic edition but I thought €120 was a lot of money for it. I've already seen it on Amazon Italy down to 105 and hopefully in January I can get it for a lot cheaper again. I will be definitely reviewing it when I get it

He's got a CZcams channel it's been inactive for a year or two but he would also buy 20 editions of the same Movie for the different artwork and collectable items. I think you'd enjoy the channel he's got some rare editions
Amazingly enough it's because of Wilsonian Movie Museum I have half a collection I have. He has such a phenomenal collection. A collection I could only dream of having and it's a shame he hasn't been around for a while but I heard it's to do with health reasons. So hopefully he will come back.

As far as I'm aware of the Blu-ray is region B locked

Limited Run Games do this with Video Games they sell they take the money straightaway but you don't get the Game for upto a year later in most cases

I'm loving the lenticular cover on this one Keith, very nice. My second favourite Carpenter movie. I remember watching this on vhs back in the 80s, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, the praticle effects we're ahead of their time and still stand up today, better than the cgi rubbish they give us today. Filmarena are a bit naughty taking your money before sending it out to you, and not returning your emails is damn right rude. It's no way to treat their customers.
Hey Gary. I think a prime example when it comes to Practical effects is when you watch the prequel to this movie and how better the original movie looks compared to the prequel. Not taking anything away from the prequel. I actually rather enjoyed it but the fact that they didn't do the effects practically massively hindered that movie and to think they were actually going to do it practically when first shooting it. There's actually footage on CZcams of them using the practical effects. It's a shame they didn't stick with it.
@@millerman9991 I didn't know that, they should have stuck with the practicle effects, like you I thought the prequel wasn't bad but it just can't be compared with this masterpiece of horror. They don't make them like they use to Keith and I think most horrors today are going backwards not forwards, ther'e no good idea's anymore. Smile was the last horror I saw, it wasn't bad and probably the most original I've seen for some time. The only one I'm really looking forward to and I hear rumours Warner might be shelving it for what ever reason, is Salem's Lot.

I'm not going to sit here and say that he's wrong. But if you noticed in the video he does say that people had issues with the audio and lots of people didn't. I think it all comes down to equipment in the end. I have a high-end sound system in my house and I thought the movie sounds perfect. I think half of what he's talking about you won't even notice. So I wouldn't get put off buying it.

I have the Inglorious Bsterds from Film Arena coming. Thank you Film Arena for not censoring out the swastika on everything or I would not have bought. Steelbook was WWA but US version was identical and. not censored so will swap those those out.
I think this Thing version gets my award for ugliest release. the year. Hands down.

I think you're madly mistaken when it comes to the thing edition. Except change my friend. Why would you want the same artwork over and over again on every single release.
@@millerman9991 It isn't about wanting swastikas but it is the way it was made. Do not change it. Why not go in and remove every frame of the movie where it shows one. I mean, it is not like the film is pro Nazis. Have you watched the film? I don't want to ruin in for anyone who have not seen it, but it is not pro nazi by any means.
As far as the Thing. I always embrace NEW art as long as it is good. They took 2 existing pieces of art and poorly combined into a horribly ugly piece of art that does not work on any level. usually Film Arena releases sell out before pre-order even happens because of how Film Aren gives out numbers, and especially on a popular film like The Thing would have been sold out before pre-order had it not been for the art. No one wanted it.
Really surprised you like it. But to each His own. All good.
Because most did not want, for the people that do, you can pick up on ebay for pretty cheap compared to other Film Arena releases. So that is good.

That's exactly why I wanted it. I have the original cover that many times it's great to finally get something a little different and this is exactly what this cover gives.
