I'll be comparing this release to the previous 2014 Second Sight & Dark Sky Blu Ray and DVD releases
A classic, iconic horror film given the deluxe treatment it fully deserves. A beautiful addition to your collection John.

TCM is an Amazing Film, one of my favorites! I met Gunnar Hansen many years ago and he was such a Humble Guy! He signed one of my DVDs. I have the Second Sight Edition on its way to my house as I type! Great video, subbed!

I love the Dark Sky blu-ray release. I remember when I first saw the cover of the box, I thought how cool it would be to have one similar with a lenticular with the steel door opening and closing.

Oh baby. I pre ordered mine with Second Sight but they just shipped it yesterday. I am in the US. Ugh I have watched people do unboxing for weeks. This is the first time I got to see the 3 bonus art cards. Love those. Especially the second one you showed. Where Leather Face is holding Her at the waist. I have a Limited Edition Print of that art by Bernie Wrightson, in black and white in His famous pen and ink style that He did for the Frankenstein art. Those will look great together.

I got mine through an on-seller, so I guess I don't get those 3 extra art cards.
I also have the Second Sight double bluray and that's a great release as far as I'm concerned.
I also have the 3D bluray of Texas Chainsaw from 2013, and that bonus art card you said was your favourite scene, that's one of the intro scenes that's been rendered in 3D from the original movie for that 2013 sequel. That shit looked great and really made me wish for the original movie complete in 3D.
I've also preordered Second Sights Picnic At Hanging Rock 4k boxset.
That one I ordered direct from them and I'm looking forward to that!!!

Hi John, first things first. Love the channel and really enjoy your reviews and Blu Ray hunts, and
was looking forward to your review of the new TCM set
However i was sorely disappointed to find that you spent the entire video eulogizing about the 4K disc and didnt give the Blu Ray a mention.
Please remember that not everyone has adopted the 4K format. In my case because iv already invested heavily into Blu Ray (nearly 700 discs) and just cant afford to start again with 4K. New TV, New Player and Disc price is frankly beyond me.
I wanted to know if it was worthwhile re-purchasing the Blu Ray but it appears that no-one is prepared even to acknowledge that the new Blu Ray even exists.
please dont forget us Blu Ray collectors

Hi John, if you go to 10:30 on the video you will hear my thoughts on the blu ray included, the quick answer is that yes, it's an improvement over tye previous Second Sight blu ray, the problems I found in the 2014 release (heavy grain and blown out skys in a few scenes) were gone and this remaster, that second sight have cleaned up even further for this release makes this the best blu ray on sale right now for me John 🤩👍👍 thanks for watching and I'll bear that in mind for the future John 😁😁👍👍

Nice 4k edition of TCM John. I bought the regular edition of TCM 4k as you're edition was to expensive for me. I was satisfied with the 4k transfer & I agree the colours really benefited from dolby vision. Second sight are releasing The Changeling 4k in June. Good video John

It has really whetted the appetite for all I’m starting to get a tad nervy as my order is still ‘unfulfilled.’ It’s possibly down to pre-ordering the title with a load of others at the same time since SS posts everything together. That’s why MARTIN isn’t here yet either so I will not be doing that again.

I think the red tinting on the art cards was a mistake but otherwise gorgeous. Glad I imported it along with NAKED LUNCH. Now I just have to wait for them to show up.
I kind of like the red cards myself, but maybe they should have had a few variations on colors for people to choose? 🤔👍 Naked Lunch is another one I'm really interested in as well 👍👍 cheers for watching 😁👍

I've got the turbine release from last yr and I've got this Boxset also. I watched both versions and there is a slight small difference between both films. Second site have gone that little bit more further with touch ups. To an average person they prob wouldn't notice imo. Love the grain on this but I'm so glad they didn't use DNR otherwise it would have looked terrible. This is the very best version were going to get. TCM isn't ment to look new but gritty and it's still kept that way. Great review

Great review. I bought my copy if this box set from Zavvi which will hopefully deliver it soon…only been on order for two months but the price was right. Looking forward to seeing this version - as you say hopefully this is the ultimate version and I will not need to buy another version.. this could be up there with Turbine films version of the Frighteners😂.

I’m now in my late 70s and have always loved Horror Cinema and have been collecting VHS, Dvd and now Blu Ray since the 80s.
I have about 6000 or more in my collection. Hammer films being my weakness, having seen them all on first cinema release. However my absolute favourite film is Psycho which I vividly remember seeing on its first release when no one was allowed in after start of film.

It's great to hear you got your money's worth.
The big question for some of us is how the transfer on Second Sight's 4K edition compares with Dark Sky's 4K release. It's hard to imagine there could be that much difference but some CZcams reviewers have bought both, so we'll see. I'm reluctant to double dip but will do so if necessary. 😁
There’s already a few comparisons up online. The conclusion being that second sights is better, as some of the glare is toned down and further dirt and damage has been improved.

@@PesterFester1966 I already own the Dark Sky 4K steelbook. My preference is to avoid the double dip ... but if the Second Sight transfer truly is that much better, I want to own the best edition possible.
And, yes, I know there are many people who would think that level of commitment to this type of movie seems a bit nutty. I can live with that. 😁

Great review! i’ve owned every home video of Texas Chainsaw (except the VHS) The Laserdisc was actually really impressive the first pressed dvd in North America seemed more like a VHS-rip to disc very bad for a dvd imo) but, with every version they did seem to make it better and better! my copy of the SecondSight 4K box arrived today (The box alone is a thing of beauty super HQ hopefully i can watch it this weekend! Darksky Films is this North American mickey mouse distributor (not sure how they managed to get the rights to Tx Chainsaw) If i had to guess the Studio /Distributor is a front to launder money (They are below Full Moon Films) there only claim to fame is having the distributor rights to Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

There was a 4K steelbook and 4K with slip, different art released here in the US, and was put out by Dark Sky. I might have picked up as well but they were only 4K. No Blu-ray. Pass.

How’s the 7.1 on the blu ray vs the atmos? Does the atmos sound wider?
On my soundbar the blu ray plays 6.1 (I previously said it was 5.1 but it is 6 1) I don't have a atmos soundbar (mine plays 7.1 on the 4k) but the bits I put on I could definitely hear a difference, the underground train sounded amazing, I would say with the added atmos on top it would be a nice upgrade Tim 🤔🤩🤩👍👍

With so many different releases of this iconic horror classic over the past 49 years on physical media, I did a bit of research and below are some of my notes.
4K UHD Blu-ray releases:
2016 - Turbine Medien (Germany) 10-bit SDR and new Auro 3D English audio track (plus German Dolby Atmos audio track but not an English one). Isolated music and effects track in DTS-HD MA 7.1 (lossless).
2022 - Turbine Medien (Germany) HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio track. Isolated music and effects track in lossy 5.1
2023 - MPI Media Group / Dark Sky Films (North America) Dolby Vision, HDR10 plus Dolby Atmos. Both DTS-HD MA 2.0 and DTS-HD MA 1.0 are genuine original audio tracks and not some bodged downmixes from newer surround remixes.
2023 - Second Sight Films (UK) UHD presented in Dolby Vision HDR produced by Second Sight Films. *A new presentation featuring additional restoration work*
New Audio commentary by Amanda Reyes and Bill Ackerman. (Five audio commentaries in total).
New Dolby Atmos and restored original mono mix produced by Second Sight Films.
Dark Sky Films under MPI Media Group own the home video rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. They licensed it out to Turbine Medien for their 4K UHD Blu-ray releases in 2016 and 2022. It is likely the 2022 Turbine Medien and 2023 Dark Sky Films releases on 4K use the same transfer.
There are two separate restorations available on standard Blu-ray:
2005 - 2K scan from original A/B reversal rolls by Don May of Synapse Films; on all pre-2014 Blu-rays

Notes about the MPI Media Group U.S. 40th Anniversary Editions:
The mono audio track included on Blu-ray and DVD is actually a downmix of the 7.1 remix audio track and not the original mono and has an error near the end of the movie (some of Sally’s screams are missing and looped over with previous ones). A DTS-HD 5.1 audio track is also included (omitted on the 2023 MPI Media Group 4K UHD Blu-ray release).

@@MondoChelloveckMovies - The Second Sight 4K UHD Blu-ray certainly is the best and most complete release to date. Previous standard Blu-ray releases were already called Ultimate Edition and Seriously Ultimate Edition though!
Can’t really see any reason for additional 4K releases in the future so this one may well be the one that is referred to as the true Ultimate Edition of this horror classic on physical media.
I plan to listen to all five audio commentaries at some point. Horror movies seem to get the most love in this department, no other genre in general comes close.
I agree with you there, the same as Dawn of the Dead, I can't see anyone redoing that after Second Sights amazing version 🤔😁😁👌👌
@@MondoChelloveckMovies - John, please can you check something for me on the mono audio track? At around 53:50 there is a scene where Sally is being chased by Leatherface and I’ve read comments that either a scream is missing from the original mono track or one of her earlier screams is looped and used later in the scene on the Second Sight release.

I'm so angry with SS right now everyone is getting this I pre-ordered this on the 30th Jan, and they told me it was delayed because the stock was late, smells like bullshit to me. every man and his dog is getting this before me. great video though. 😡
That's not great is it Martin!! 🤬🤬 they sent me an email saying my set might be late but I had it delivered the day before and Royal mail had sent me a "this item has just been delivered" so you think they would have known but yeah it seems like they are overwhelmed by this release!! 🤯🤯 it's on Amazon at the moment, so it's definitely out there!! Gotta be honest TCM has not been a firm favourite of mine I do own the Blu-ray I always thought the way it shot grain etc added realism so I don't know if 4k uhd it would take that away always thought Blu-ray suited it , I own the seriously ultimate edition second sight Blu-ray 📀
I honestly think this restoration works well Stuart 🤔🤔 it's really cleaned up but still retains a Grindhouse feel to it 🤩🤩👍👍
