I remember when I first watched it, nothing will ever replicate the sheer grit and brutality of this film, it almost feels like one of those mondo documentaries like Mondo Cane (1962)
First time I saw this film, sometime in the mid-80s, was at a local cinema showing it one afternoon I was the only one there so having bought a ticket they had to run it for me, sort of exclusively almost. And that was a pretty spooky experience, watching this alone in the dark like that with the only other person there being the ticket guy walking around at one point. Eternal classic, still have its old LaserDisc.
Dead right, Alan. it's a classic all right. And part of its appeal for me is it looks like it could be real. There's no Hollywood gloss. It's raw horror at its best. Thanks for a great review.
That is exactly right, Geoff. The movie looks so real, so authentic, and as I say, this sort of thing could actually happen, as there are so many dysfunctional families out there. The raw realism is what makes this movie so great, and I thought that Marilyn Burns was the best final girl ever!
Just got the boxset which is lovely, not watched it yet though. It’s my favourite horror of all time so made up it’s had this lovely treatment from Second Sight. Can’t wait to watch it and delve into the new special features!
Yeah, as I say, I tried to get the box set, but they'd all been snapped up. I totally agree that Second Sight did a fantastic job with this 4K transfer. Thank you for watching.
The original and best. I think being low budget, raw and grainy helps with the uncomfortable notion of the film, I just love how gritty it is. I've no doubt it looks incredible in ultra 4k.
Glad you’re happy with the 4K, Alan. This is definitely a classic film and the dinner time scene you mentioned is certainly intense. I’m not a fan of the sequels either, the humour in Part 2 was dreadful. Great review of the film.
Cheers Bryn. Yes, it's a fantastic edition. Re. TCM Part 2, I thought that was a real missed opportunity, because if they'd have taken all the unnnecessary humour out and simply stuck to the serious, dark tone of the first film, I reckon it would have made for an interesting storyline with the Sawyer family returning. Ah well. Glad you liked the review. Hope you're having a nice weekend.
It was supposedly based on the acts of Ed Gein. Another film that was based on the horrific crimes of Ed Gein is a film called Deranged which is out on the Arrow and Kino labels, also worth checking out..
Gotta admit when second sight do a release it done to the hilt. The box set limited edition is going for silly money on eBay I own the blu ray but they re released it so got it fella 😉 an investment love the original cracking stuff Alan as always keep the channel going fella a fathom of information as always.
Thanks for the kind words, Christian. Yeah, I wanted the Special Limited Edition, but I was too late, as they had all snapped. It is quite pricey too. I would love that accompanying book that comes with the Special Edition.
Hi Alan, I too have over the years have had various formats of TCSM movies, but this UHD4K seams to be the creme da La creme, ill treat myself to this next week when get paid, it's a top 5 horror film of mine, I love the 1st one, have seen all the sequels too, but not that Netflix one, would like to see that one. Of The sequels I like that 3rd one with Kate Hodge and Viggo moeterson, liked also the remake. Thanks for the kind great review as always Alan, good one!. Enjoyed it. Definitely made my decision a hell of a lot easier m8. Cheers, have a great weekend Alan, enjoy yourself
Hi Jamie. Thanks for your comments. Yeah, this is the best the movie has ever looked. I have just ordered the remake on blu, as I love that one too. Only £4.99 on Ebay too! Glad you enjoyed my review. Yeah, have a good weekend yourself too, Jamie. Cheers mate.
Just finished watching such a good film and the best it's ever looked. 😍
Yep, it's a good one.

I felt the same too when I watched it for the very first time. An absolute classic.

Wow, that must have been a real spooky experience for you! Really adding to the tension and atmosphere of the movie. Yes indeed, it is a true classic.
Another great review. Have to watch this.
Thanks Matthew.
I just uploaded a pick ups video on youtube with this one included, I can't wait to watch it 😮 great review alan.
I will definitely have to check your pickups video out. Thank you for watching.

The opening scenes with the rotting corpse is very gory and memorable!
It is indeed. So many memorable and iconic scenes in this horror classic.
Brilliant horror film, so pleased they've done it justice
Definitely. A true classic, Jock.

Indeed it was. Yes, I have that copy of DERANGED, on the Arrow label. Good movie.
The original VHS was from Iver Video as was the Super 8 version Alan! 🙂
Cheers Kevin. Thanks for watching.

They just restocked the limited addition on second sight I'd hurry.

@@Truegho they have them on second sight right now I would hurry. The little extra money you spend will be well worth it down the road
Tbh mate I own the Blu-ray 📀 not seen it for years
Hi Stuart. Thanks for your comments. Yeah, this 4K is definitely worth picking up. Picture quality is absolutely pristine.
