Must agree, they seem to have stepped away from what made them popular in the first place. They used to offer what you could not get in the Honda badged siblings. When you can spend less, and get the same or better out of the Honda brand, I ask myself, what's the point?

Great car! A lot of haters but - I love ACURA! The TLX 2018 is actually faster than the 7.4 he gives it. I’ve run it and it comes in closer to 6 seconds. Red leather seats, badging, 19” wheels, and SHAWD makes the car. I highly recommend looking at one up close and driving it. Awesome -

I just have a feeling that everyone just has a problem with the brand, not the cars. People continously say that it's down on power ETC when a regular 3 series has just 300 Hp. The Lexus is 350 is still NA WITH just 15 more horsepower. The next generation of Acura is going to be the best. And everyone says that it's just an Accord which its not. Half of these negative comments never even driven a TLX to make that conclusion. Because if it's not the power that's the issue then they say it's the interior which is waaay better and different .

Andy Li - Don't be ignorant. I've owned a Merc and a BMW and now an Acura and I can honestly say that the build quality of Acura is excellent! The feel of the materials are comparable if not better than the Germans. There is no flex, rattles, or noises that come from the chassis unlike some BMWs.
I'll admit design is where Acura falls flat when you compare it to Mercedes and Lexus but BMWs aren't exactly inspiring to look at either.

The detailed explanation of the handling package and unique badges really helped me understand what sets the A-Spec version apart. The power of the 3.5-liter V6 engine and the smoothness of the nine-speed automatic transmission are impressive. The exterior design changes for the A-Spec, like the grille, headlights, and rear spoiler, give it a sporty and aggressive look. Overall, this review was informative and engaging. Nice video! What's that gadget you used to time the car called?
In Sport+ this thing pulls off the line really hard. One important thing to note is that this car is programmed to learn your driving style over time so it may be that this car has been treated mostly gently because mine def gets to 60 in 6ish seconds. With sport+ the transmission feels clunky in low speeds but if you're trying to get up to highway speeds, I find it performs best in automatic.

To me Acura is going backwards point blank period! Acura best years for the TL was 2002-2014! Starting with the 2002-2003 Acura TL Type-S 3.2 liter engine with 260 horsepower and it had a time from 0-60 in about 6 seconds and quarter of a mile in about 14.6. 2004 Acura TL A-Spec 3.2 engine with 270 horsepower going from 0-60 in about 5.3 seconds with a quarter of a mile time of about 13.9 with a six speed manual! Now there were rumors that it had 300 or more horsepower! I can tell you that I had a 2003 TL Type-S and it was quick but after driving my brother 2004 TL A-spec that car would beat the 2003 TL Type-s bad and I believe it had close to that 300 like they said! But both of these cars would beat the new TLX A-spec and regular TLX like they stole something from them! Now after 2004 they didn’t make a TL Type-S into 2007 which to me was a detune version of the 2004 TL A-Spec but was still a good car running from 0-60 in about 5.7 second with a quarter of a mile about 14.3 with the RL 3.5 liter engine. Then after that when Acura came out with the 3.7 TL with a 6 speed with 305 horsepower 2010 going from 0-60 in about 5.3 second and a quarter of a mile time of 13.7 with sh-AWD. I felt like they were back on track into the 2015 Acura TLX! Boy what a let down if you have drove any of those other TL! Bottom line Acura got to get back to their roots! Performance, performance and performance! I’m not talking about just putting an A-spec badge on the car and tuning the suspension!! Put some horsepower into their cars cause 290 horsepower is so yesterday when you see how the Hyundai Stinger GT got 365 horsepower with a twin turbo 3.3 liter V-6! But I have saw were Acura supposed to be bringing back the Type-S badge with a twin turbo V-6 soon! I can only wait and wish into then!!!

Acura is being left behind by turbo 4's and larger displacement engines. Look at Honda, they are doing great things with smaller boosted engines. I wonder if the tlx could beat an 18 accord touring 2.0 at this point.

A luxury car should be more on the opulent side and less on the just good enough side. If you want to compete with the brands that they are claiming to compete with, they need to take it up a notch. Most of the people who buy Acuras are older people who just want something nicer but don't want to spend the money. People aspire for Mercedes, BMWs etc. Hell even the Genesisis doing luxury better.. This car needs the same turbocharged engine found in the Type R with the same 306 horsepower and 292 pound feet of torque paired with the 10 speed automatic and sport hybrid as the RLX for the next generation, It seems that Acura cheapened the TLX compared to the 4th generation TL which has done really well for Acura when it comes to sales and offering competitive luxury for less money, this TLX though no longer sells as good as the TL and doesn’t offer the same luxury as the European competition. Acura please do something if you want to be competitive in this segment, you guys seem to be competing with Buick and they caught up to the higher luxury brands. I would recommend people to get a fully loaded Honda for less than 50 grand and enjoy the same or more luxury for about $10000 - $20000 less.

pochoun33137 Another factor is also that they had major issues with the 3.7 j series engine. It was more powerful putting out 305 hp but the issue was it was defective. The engine burned oil and eventually the engine was no good. Had they perfected the j37 and slapped a turbo on it would no longer be a fancy accord. The new Accord V6 has a turbo and its faster than it's previous version. Second issue is the TL replaced both the tl and tsx. It's kind of in between and lacking some true identity. For a while the Honda Accord sport looked better with its front lip and 19 inch rims. Just a thought...what dyou guys think?

We'll see how that goes :). I'll get it back in a week or so.

That's why you can buy them for $3,000 - $4,000 below MSRP. Car review magazines were already calling them a "good value", and all-around solid good car before that kind of discount. They just don't quite compare to a $50,000 BMD or Audi in terms of performance.
The 2018 refresh of the TLX is a beautiful car to see in person, and a pleasure to drive if you're OK with sacrificing the "fun" of rear wheel drive. At almost 300HP it's still god decent performance, it's just less of a "sports" car and more of a "luxury" car. All my family members really enjoy being driven around in it. When I put it in "Sport+" mode, it's still a fun car, just not quite as thrilling as a MazdaSpeed, VW GTi V6, or higher performing BMW/Mercedes/Audi.
If Acura comes out with a 3.0L Turbo V6 version of the TLX, it will absolutely breathe new life into their brand and be a very desirable car (I want one so badly already and they haven't made it yet).

  • @bjc_9975

    • @ChristopherOSU
      @ChristopherOSU Před 6 lety

Yes, it's a great car (as of the 2018 model, and older ones that have had the transmissions replaced). I think the 2018 refresh is a huge improvement to the car's appearance, and, the improvement to the responsiveness of the head unit was also quite significant (from what I've heard, I never tried the old one).
***But*** when you go into an Acura dealership they tell you that Acura is a "performance automobile" - the TLX (V6) is powerful, but "smooth" power, not give you an adrenaline rush knock you back into your seat exhilarating torque level of performance, not by any means.
It's outside is sleek and subtly beautiful - my only complaint is that the exhaust tips are obviously fake (as in they are enlarged and the actual pipe is much smaller) - I *hate* fake pretend performance design aesthetics, such as fake "air scoops".
Inside the leather seats are firm yet comfortable. Small touches like the bezel-less rear view mirror, and the beatifully simple yet elegant looking speedometer and tach along with the LCD middle display between them make me smile (especially at night).
To be a great "sports sedan" and to live up to Acura's claims of being a performance brand, they ***must*** step the Acura models up to a level *above* what the Accord 2.0T brings. And also, Acura's highest performing sports sedan must not be beaten by a Honda Civic! (Type R).
Acura cars must have (gain) a leg up over Honda cars in terms of performance, or they (as a brand) do not have credibility.

In this modern age, if you can't produce a RWD vehicle with at least 3-350 horsepower you're missing out on a large chunk of the sport sedan market. People generally expect a little get up and go with a "sport" sedan. Honda, BMW, Audi, and Infiniti are all offering 4 and 6 cylinder forced induction engines...Guess I'll have to keep on waiting for Acura to join in and maybe I'd go back to them.

The Acura TLX will not be very compelling until they offer a Turbo version with more power than the 2.0T Accord. If they add a Turbo V6, then they will have a model that Accord simply cannot compete with, that is the type of clear performance advantage a brand like Acura needs to distance itself from (above) Honda/Accord (without having to pay "super car" prices as you do with the NSX - it's disappointing that they raised the price of the NSX 2.0 so much higher than the first NSX).

Acuras look like any other car on the road. Lexus has sharp eye catching, interior and exterior designs. High quality materials and craftsmanship. Toyota is smart to keep its two brands different. You know when your in a Lexus or Toyota. Although Toyota offers great reliability, quality, Lexus is a step up in everything. Honda and Acura don't seem to be in the same terms. Lexus and Toyota all the way.
