      The Lexus has one too! So what is the point of bringing that up? Plus...
      Honda phased them out but Toyota still has them in the 2018 models. I own thousands of CDs, and still buy em. Not having a cd player actually a deal breaker for me.
      Yes, I have music on my phone, but I still go to the used mom & pop record store, buy a bunch of cheap $2 cds and go for a joyride and listen to what I bought. No cd player = no buy. If your not a music fan and just listen to the radio, then thats fine, but I'm always trying to find new stuff, and I like heading to the record store to dig in the crates.

    You guys spent like 6 minutes on the Acura and 3 on the Lexus. While I do think the Acura is the better car for those who have a budget and want to maximize space. The Lexus in my book has way more substance. One little tidbit, I can’t believe he thinks the IS interior is fussy. It’s a screen, vents, one row of buttons for HVAC controls containing only like 6 buttons and another row of buttons for audio containing another 6 or so. It’s the same set up in literally every car. Also the heated seat controls are easy to reach if you’re not retarded and the ignition button isn’t any more out of place than a regular ignition say if you were using a key. I knew they were gonna not pick the Lexus from the start though. Once he called it “ancient” it was over.
    They also compared a midsized car to a compact car so that’s that...

    • @kevinniles8781
      @kevinniles8781 Před 6 lety

      Technically, the TLX is classified as a compact, not midsize.

    • @josephxavier453
      @josephxavier453 Před 6 lety +7

      @kevinniles8781 Před 6 lety +5

      MikeM it is ancient, that Lexus is basically the same chassis and engine (except for the mid tier turbo engines) from the previous gen from 2007. The mid gen refresh didn't update much either except for some cosmetic and a bigger infotainment screen

    • @kixlee

    • @user-pu9pz6ff9l
      @user-pu9pz6ff9l Před 6 lety +5

      joosunkmybattleship Incorrect. The 2014 platform is the new N Platform - it is a totally different platform compared to the platform on the 2nd generation Lexus IS (which is the N Platform). The platform is only 4 years old as of today. So calling the Lexus "ancient" is considered stupid.
      The mid-gen refresh update is a huge update - you have to look at it as a world update.
      All specs (except US-spec) get triple LED headlights with LED turn signals.
      Less plastics and more padded stitching.
      Bigger screen
      Updated bumpers/grills
      Bug fixes to the UI.
      And other stuff.
      The update for the 2017 is well worth it. The screen alone was worth it.

      I would say if you care more about driving dynamics, exclusivity, and style, go with the Lexus. If you are shopping with a spreadsheet, go with the Acura. I can't deny the Acura has good value, but the Lexus will probably be more reliable and will be more fun when you start pushing it hard on a back road due to its architecture. Also, the IS will definitely get more attention. One of the main downsides and upsides of the IS is the interior - it's very cockpit like which some perceive as cramped - it's all up to you as to whether you like that. For me I like it, since everything is within reach, and I am held in place when going around corners. I considered going with the TLX when I was car shopping a couple of years ago but just found it boring. On paper it did seem like a good deal. Anyway best of luck to you!

    • @elusivellama

      @@Fresh4rmTrap The current gen TLX is just a last gen Accord with the option of SH-AWD. It's FWD-based, transverse engine layout with tech that is one generation behind Honda. Meanwhile the Lexus IS is RWD architecture with a longitudinal V6 for better handling, made in Japan at the Tahara plant, which is the most automated and advanced car factory in the world. It has decades of Toyota and Lexus quality behind it, while Acura is just a hopped up Honda.

    I built a IS350 AWD F-Sport to the specs of the Acura and it came in at a tick over $50,280...about $7,000 more. Some might be willing to overlook the shortcomings of the IS for better handling but most won't. The Acura has more room, more advanced features, better awd system, is more efficient for less money with similar performance which seems to tip the scales in its favor.

They also failed to mention the refresh and didn’t even compare a fair trim level of the Lexus to the Acura and as of right now Lexus IS slowly integrating Apple car play into their car. Think the new NX, the UX coming out and the new LS are the first candidates. This video was probably sponsored by Acura 🤷🏽‍♂️.

      For the TLX, even though its weird to use the knob for Apple car play (I got used to it really fast), the dual screen that everybody seems to hate, is actually really cool. The Acura map is really outdated, but I pulled up Google maps from my iPhone on the top screen, and then proceeded to use the lower screen to play with my music on my phone. I have no idea why people complain about that.

    This review is ridiculous! The first obvious issue is the fact that you aren't comparing apples to apples as far as trim.
    Apple car play is not the savior of all cars. most 2018 model cars have a CD player, including the Acura and all BMW's. the buttons are well placed in the Lexus and not hidden within a screen that's bound to stop working over time. the heated seat adjustments are not hard to access unless you're dumb and to lazy to press on them, you don't have to keep your phone in the center console to use the aux cord, the Lexus actually have clips to hold the aux cord so you don't close it in the console. Also, if Cd's are outdated then the aux cord is just as outdated as the CD since it has Bluetooth audio. You need to find a new job, reviewing cars isn't for you.

    I test drove both cars today. The Acura came out to be almost 10k (Canadian) less than the Lexus. The Acura was more practical and better for an everyday car with the help of a spacey interior and good sized trunk. The Lexus handles better around corners and it's engine sounds great next to the Acura. If you live somewhere that snows, the SH-awd is a great option and makes for a better drive in the winter. If you don't need stability in the winter, or the space, the Lexus is the option for you. Otherwise, you're better off saving 10k and going with the already amazing Acura TLX.

    I had an Acura 2004 TSX. It had a parasitic drain in the electrical system. Wiper fluid pump broke and only the high beams worked. Steering felt sloppy. Slow for sporty looking car. Own 2015 GS 350 F Sport. Rear sunshade broke but everything else works (for now). From service records I can see that both door actuators in the front had to be replaced on the Lexus so that seems to be an issue. I was looking for an Acura TL but almost all had a cracked dash and/or ripped seats. Lexus seems to make cars that hold up better over time. My main beef with Lexus is how hard they are to work on. I would probably have to unbolt motor mounts and remove the alternator and exhaust manifold if I ever had to replace the starter.

    I will say up front that I was looking for a new vehicle and recently drove both the A-Spec and 350 FSport back-to-back. Like many of the other comments; they need to compare similar trim levels. Considering they were comparing "AWD Sport sedans", I can't understand why they quickly discounted the handling and horsepower/torque differences in lieu of trunk space and livability. That said and focusing on the performance aspect of both cars, I found the difference in the 6 vice 9 speed transmissions a bigger deal than they made of it, at least when transmissions were in automatic mode. The Lexus seems to search for gears while in automatic mode (even when I put the car in Sport +) whereas the Acura seemed to be more settled in automatic mode. However, once in manual mode, the Lexus really outshined the Acura. The shifts were Porsche triptronic fast and the car never took back control of the shifting. Since I was looking for a AWD Sport Sedan, it was easy to choose the Lexus.
