      f181234 I'm talking about design wise. the Acura is extremely bland, and really, how often are you feeling up the materials of your dashboard? you'll be looking at it more often.

      Agreed. The new Civic has a pretty kick-ass interior that's really cool to look at. This is just the same old boring, "meh" Acura design.

    I love the refresh. I was iffy about the front end when I first saw it but after looking at it in many different pictures and videos it's won me over. The A-Spec looks sharp! Now if Roman would just quit saying the V6 is a 3 liter when in fact it is a 3.5 liter.....!!!

      The Engine note it primarily determined by the engine design, then you apply acoustics using the exhaust. No car other than VQ engines can produce a VQ note. However, I see what you are saying with a nice exhaust note, it owul dbe nice if the a-spec had that. Maybe they will option our a sports muffler!

    I recently test drove the Honda Accord V6 sedan, the TLX, and the Nissan Maxima SR. Hands down, the Nissan Maxima beats the TLX in interior (more beautiful layout, instrumentation, real round buttons, beautiful LED layout, and ambience), exterior design (mean looking, aggressive, elegant, and the Koito LED headlights are just so beautiful to look at). As far as performance, they're almost equal. I do prefer the Honda J35 over Nissan's VQ simply because it loves to rev happily and doesn't feel pushed and the 6-speed automatic, in the Accord, feels perfectly matched to the engines output. Overall, the Maxima is superior, overall, but the Achilles heal of the Maxima was the CVT transmission. Between all 3 cars the Maxima, taken everything into consideration, is the winner. What did I finally get? Well, luckily, the Honda dealer had an Accord Coupe V6 6-speed manual (the color was red and the V-6 manuals are only offered in coupes). Within 5 minutes of driving that car I was completely sold. Even though the sound system in Accord Coupe car is ridiculously awful and has the ugliest tiered rims on the planet, the driving dynamics of the car were incredible for the price. So good that it more than over compensated for all the short comings the Accord had over the Maxima (yes, the overall driving feel of the car is that good: put some Summer tires and forged rims on the Accord coupe and you can easily see close to a full second drop in the 0-60 times... furthermore, the J35 is producing close to 300 horsepower and not the claimed 278 according to dynos). I had to order the Accord V-6 Coupe manual (in black because Honda has limited colors for the manual-which is odd) and had a wait time of about 2 months and it was worth the wait.

    • @DarthNero
      @DarthNero Před 7 lety

      ErwinSchrodinger64 you can't really compare the Accord with the other as Accord is like 8-9k cheaper than the other two. So of course you going to get less quality sound system. I like Maxima interior as well but I don't like the CVT and exterior design. Good choice on your purchase though.

    • @mrhandles3
      @mrhandles3 Před 7 lety

      Andrew Draxlar honda accord kills all of them for cheaper...

    • @ErwinSchrodinger64
      @ErwinSchrodinger64 Před 7 lety +2

      The Accord Touring (the highest end model) is 2,500.00 more than the base model Maxima. The highest priced Maxima is about 40,000.00 and the highest priced Accord is around 34,800.00. Believe it or not, the Touring model has a lot of amenities that the Maxima has. However, yes, you're correct that the Maxima is a tier above the Accord because it offers levels of options like a superior sound system, ambient lighting, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, quality of leather, vastly superior seating, all around camera, unique moon roof, and so forth that are not available in the Accord at any trim. But as far as driving dynamics, there about equal with a slight edge on the Accord due to the engine and transmission.
      I quite don't understand the Maxima's segment in the market. Is it suppose to be between a full sized sedan and full size luxury car like the BMW's 5 series or the Audi A6 (the lower variants, of course). And does the Maxima have any direct competitors? I'm stumped because in many respect, the Maxima seems to overlap a lot with Nissan's offerings in the Infinite line up (but that's changing now since Infinite introduced their V6 twin turbo).

    • @97I30T
      @97I30T Před 7 lety +2

      ErwinSchrodinger64 Yeah, Nissan pushed the Maxima too far upmarket in my opinion. The only car I can really see it somewhat competing with is the Toyota Avalon and that has more of an emphasis on comfort over sportiness. I also think the maxima having a CVT puts a lot of people off of buying it. I would hate to spend around $40k on a vehicle that has a CVT.

  • @tim3172

    If it makes anyone feel better I believe the reason the badge is so large is to accommodate the Radars/Lasers/Lidar that is needed for auto-cruise and auto-brake and whatnot.
    The reason I think this is because it is acrylic rather than the traditional hollow metal badge on the front and you don't see any obvious round black radar 'eyes' you see on a lot of cars.
    Mazda does the same thing. On the lower models the badge is metal, on the i-sight ones it's acrylic.
    I guess 'ugly for a purpose' is better than 'ugly for no reason'?

    @justanotherweirdo2324 Před 7 lety +3

    I personally like what they're trying to do, and their marketing ideas aren't bad. However, seeing an nsx hybrid system in a TLX is pretty unlikely, unreasonable, and expensive. Although cool, it would loose it's novelty and would just be too heavy and wouldn't contain the appropriate technology because of the price range they are aiming at. I wish they'd offer a manual transmission, but that's probably unlikely because they're a luxury brand and all. It looks great, I hope to see a more in depth review, and let's hope they continue the Honda reliability!

      JD M I agree, but acura instead insists on all automatics after 2014 (I think...), and are putting in their new 9speed DCTs in everything with that weird button thing down the center in the car. It's not bad, and is probably better for marketing purposes, but I miss that "fun".

    I believe the A in A-Spec stands for "Appearance". So I don't think that would ever include an upgrade in performance. That would be the S-Type or Type-R. I love to see the same Sports Hybrid tech in the MDX used in a TLX S-Type.
    And I don't know why so many folks hate this looks. It looks much more mature than the new Civic. I do love the new Civic look but I also love this TLX look. Different target audience.

Anyone in the northern parts of the states and the like will never pick a fwd vehicle w snow tires over an awd vehicle w snow tires. Personally I would prefer an awd system (i.e. a tlx) over a fwd system (i.e. accord). TLX awd v6 > Accord fwd v6

    You guys need to realize that this is JUST A REFRESH, so y'all can't expect BIG changes... Acura updated the grille & applied it to this car. You guys have to wait til Acura makes new generations of their vehicles to see if their designs will get better looking... Next vehicles that will be getting redesigns will be the next ILX and RDX, so hopefully, they have some really interesting, nice looking designs to make it look better than others in its class... Until then, everyone has to be patient. I have a feeling Acura will wow us with their future designs.

    Definitely the sport version looks better. I don't know why companies need a 'grill design language' so badly. They spent a lot of time overstyling the front and back, but sides and the interior looks rather bare. That 3.5 v6 should be over 300hp by now too but at least it has awd. Out of Japanese luxury brands I think Lexus and Infiniti offer more interesting options.

    This car looks okay. Maybe I need to get use to it like the shield in the past. Acura designs the rear and headlights very well but front looks a bit awkward. This grille looks good on MDX but this grille (must be the size) a bit too big on TL. May be I have to get use it and see it in real life. Why didn't they keep the same shape as previous design but without the shield?

    Looks much better than outgoing model, while still not crazy about the front end it's head & shoulders above the abomination they self-inflicted upon themselves after the TL. Back looks great but if not Honda-special (numerous Hondas over the years have had a special Honda design DNA that, while may not be the best looking, is special and stands out).

    They need to hire somebody who knows how to make a front end on a car. The 3rd gen TL (2004-2008) was the last time they made a decent looking sedan. The rest of the car is pretty good. How can this front end be from the same people who made the NSX?

    It is the same exact car as the 2017 TLX. Only difference is cosmetic. Front and rear bumper are the same but the same power train, Acura needs to listen and what Honda did to revamp their name.

    I really dislike how incongruent the headlights and grille. I preferred the beak. The rest of the styling is nice but I will never ever buy a car with alcantara. Chamois are for drying the car not for the seats.

    So maybe I misheard you but it sounded like you kept calling the V6 the 3 Liter when it is in fact a 3.5 Liter for the V6. The best sports sedan Acura ever made was their TL from 2004-2008. That car was the closest thing you could buy to a FWD 3 series. After that, as you said they lost the plot. If this 2018 TLX is anything like the 04-08 TL (especially the 07-08 Type-S) then we can definitely say Acura is on it's way back. :)

  • @SK-lt1so

    Cheaper and more reliable than 3 series. At least as good looking as 3 series, and you'll actually be able to afford to repair it if you do need to.

    n/a v6's haven't evolved much in terms of hp output my 11 year old G35 coupe has 298hp out the box. This only has 290. V8's from that era made around 300 hp today they make 400 plus

    Honestly Acura has lost it's way a long time ago. The 3G TL was brilliant and while the 4G drives and handles great the styling is terrible and Acura has ordered a stop sale on them because of air bag issues. I'm not sold on Honda quality anymore, they are giving too many little and major problems to consider them anymore.
