    For the longest time it was all about power to weight ratio… and it still is to a point but this is the era of transmissions. Used to be a debate of manual vs automatic and it wasn’t even hardly a debate as manuals have almost always traditionally been faster but now you’ve got CVT vs DCT vs 8&10speed torque converter transmissions and they’re making all the difference in outcomes in races.
    I’m personally more of a fan of the DCTs and 10 speeds, I think they should be the industry standard going forward.

    • @HD_Kerino
      @HD_Kerino Před 2 lety +7

      Not everyone cares about a car that will drive and handle well, putting a DCT, and 10 spd in a car is not cheap and the buyer’s pocket will notice that.

      That’s when zf8 speed comes in play it is the best automatic ever to this date ! Most high performance cars / trucks use it! Including new Supra, Hellcats/demons / track hawks/ new m5/m4/m3 and more!

      Oh completely agree…. That’s how we end up with the environment we have now where manufacturers can’t agree on which transmission to put in their own models let alone what they should have as competition to their rivals.
      Cost is THE major factor for most cars so I completely understand why civics and nissans come with CVTs…. And in theory a CVT should be perfect from a performance perspective…. And in 10-20 years maybe CVTs will be light years better but if I had to guess gasoline engines and all the fancy advances in transmissions will be the equivalent of the new technology that was showing up in horse buggies right before cars came out. (None of this is going to matter in 20-40years with electric antonymous drones/cars on the horizon)

    the TLX AWD adds alot weight, but handling is apples to oranges. I've driven many Accords and TL/TLX over the last twenty years, and nothing compares with the handling of the AWD system on those Acura's. Straight line speed, the Honda is lighter, but I've taken a TLX on a mountain twisting road and never felt threatened on what speed I was going and left many cars behind. You want a 4200lb luxury sport sedan to beat competitors 500 lbs less is obviously not going to happen… but to say the car has no performance because it’s not beating it’s competitors with more horsepower is kind of saying the NSX has no performance because it can’t beat its competitors lmao and there’s performance in the Type S but Acura knows people will tune the car once bought so why would they waste the resources to do so themselves… they don’t need the extra propaganda because they know when to compete and when to chill… TLX is a chill car… you want a quick luxury sedan for 60k go with Kia or Lexus

    • @raymondtang1262
      @raymondtang1262 Před 2 lety

      You could argue anyway you want but if Acura released a car that can't beat any of its competition, honestly that's sad. Especially the Type S. It's definitely the performance version of its lineup, but it just can't win a drag race. I bet you the Type R (lighter but with much smaller engine) would likely walk the Type S in 1/2 mile even with FWD launch issue. Accord has proven to beat any TLX A Spec effortlessly. I'm pretty sure Civic hatch touring would also walk the top ILX model. So to say that Acura is the performance division of Honda just sounds WRONG. Perhaps it should say Acura is the Luxury division of Honda. LOL. Tuning? So if u tune your Type S and ppl are tuning their cars, most likely they Type S will get smoked again. How about their approach they have on the new Integra (going back to its roots???), The new design is heavily inspired by the old Integra? Really?? Unfortunately NONE of what they said made sense to me. The Integra prototype would've been perfect if it was the new gen ILX. Don't get me wrong, I used to be an Acura fan and had many Acuras in the past. But as time goes, I think Acura has been really DISAPPOINTING, and I'm not the only one disappointed. Not sure what their visions are. But all I can say is Good Luck to Acura.

    Otherwise, just save your money and buy the Accord. Or a 10 year old Mercedes or BMW or a 2013 Audi RS7.

    I am seeing Dyno numbers of stock 10th Gen 2.0t Accords in the 280 HP / 310 Tq (15% corrected) that is well above stock for number. I think Honda may have understated the 2.0t Accord on purpose.
    AWD would be nice, but that adds weight and I think it would be slower than the TLX A-Spec at that point. If I could have found a TLX Type-S for a good price I would have gone that route, but I ended up buying a used 10th gen 2.0t Touring and it is a nice around the town cruiser for my use.

      The 1.5t isn't a good modified engine. Lot of folks are finding out there is a hard stop on HP on the L15 engines. A lot of 11th gen Si owner are popping head gaskets on their 1.5t engines when tuning them. The 2.0t (K20C) can go up into the 450 HP range and have no issues. Lemonfactor has done a ton of testing and the 2.0t is beast with the 10 speed transmission mated to it.

      That said, I searched for a K5 GT and there were zero within 100 miles. Pushing it out to 500 miles and only found 5 in stock. I feel like with so few out there, it might be problematic down the road when it needs replacement parts.
