  • Eric Novak conducts a 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec SH-AWD Review.
    After years of putting together a great driving car, but a less-than-stellar looking car, with the launch of the 2018 TLX in the new A-Spec trim level...has Acura finally gotten it right?

    I went from a 2014 is350 to a 2018 tlx aspec and I have to say I love the way the aspec looks and the amount of tech that is standard. The seats are way more comfortable apple CarPlay is a plus and the Navi scroll is easier to use than the mouse I had in the IS350. For all the people that complains about hp and torque it is more than enough seriously how fast do you drive everyday do you go to a stop sign and floor the gas just to get to the next stop sign or light.

      @chairrules2007 Před 6 lety +3

      Exactly ! I completely agree. Guys like this f-head toyota4life and his comments below are totally kidding themselves. If this car isnt fast or sporty enough for you, then you should should either buy a nascar vehicle, and literally go drive in circles the rest of your life, or ask Nasa if they will sell you any of their old rocket ships. People just dont get it.

      I agree too. I’m thinking about trading my Lexus in for a ASpec too. I mean seriously people why argue and say low horsepower, are you on a fucking nascar track everyday using it? The power is more than enough. In my city where I live it’s so crowded you barely can use 100 HP.

      True, although how fast does the Lexus feel in terms of acceleration compared to the tlx?

    Great video Eric Novak’s and thanks. I still have my 2007 TL Type S but like the completeness of this car. Unlike some people in this comment section who seem to just care about one thing. Hp. Which... honestly is fine, but there’s more to a car than just how much hp it has. At least to me. I love my Type S though. It’s no longer made, still turns heads and I have the blue one too which is even more rare to find. I’ve always loved Acura’s tech though and how it takes a long time before you not only get bored with the cockpit.. but how you never get bored walking up to it.

      None that I am aware of, but you might want to contact a local Acura dealer to confirm, or possibly a local parts supplier.

    Unless you want AWD or an Acura Badge, go drive a fully loaded Accord 2.0T and save some money. I agree with others however, it's not in the same category as the S4 or 340i and certainly not the Audi RS or BMW M lineup. No way.

    • @TheNovakReport
      @TheNovakReport  Před 6 lety +2

      Agreed...but as I've noted before, I don't believe Acura is targeting the performance trims you noted as their direct competition. That happens way more in online discussions than it ever has in the marketing department at Acura.

      Also, the Acura TLX is also a lot more quiet (inside the cabin) and than an Accord Touring, and a naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 doesn't feel like a turbo 2.0 liter, not at all. Are these things that you care about? Maybe, maybe not. In which case the Accord might be a better choice for you. Because indeed, the TLX is a luxury version of the accord. For myself, I absolutely wanted the AWD option, I go a lot in Vermont, so the FWD only Accord wasn't an option. I'm absolutely loving the quietness tho ...

    They will never be able to recreate the magic of the 3rd generation TL.

      It’s interesting you should say that. I still have my 07 KBP Type S And was wondering if it’s worth trading in for this. I’m hearing yes and no but we know the TL Type S is... special. It still gets looks. It still turns heads. It’s no longer made. And I have the kinetic blue pearl which is very hard to find nowadays. What do YOU think ?

    • @thump2727
      @thump2727 Před 6 lety

      Daiymian just bought an 07 tl fully loaded, not a type-S but it still gets around people when I need it...lol

      Nice Thump 272. Hey I saw a video on here with one of the top Acura guys in Japan announcing the return of the Type S in future models. Check this.. /watch?v=EUmqgRDpn5A

      @stevenhuerta7241 Před 5 lety

      Daiymian same right now. I have a 07 kbp 6MT and thinking of trading for an a spec, did you go thru with it?

    • @Daiymian
      @Daiymian Před 5 lety

      Nope.. still have my Type S. It's at 159,000 mi now. I really wanna keep it until it reaches 200k. I have a problem trading it in. Or any nice car that is no longer made.

  • @Toyota4Life
    @Toyota4Life Před 6 lety +7

    "Performance Model"
    Lmfaooooooo. Lexus F, BMW M, Benz AMG, AUDI RS owners definitely gonna trade in for this performance Acura with 290hp ! Let's be real here this is a appearance package.

    • @TheNovakReport
      @TheNovakReport  Před 6 lety +1

      No, but that isn't necessarily who Acura is targeting.

    • @Toyota4Life
      @Toyota4Life Před 6 lety +1

      Eric Novak it’s not a performance car that’s my point I’m trying to make. A sporty car yes not a performance car

    • @TheNovakReport
      @TheNovakReport  Před 6 lety +10

      Toyota4Life I hear what your saying, but hp alone doesn't make a car "sporty". The A-Spec in this case is more appearance oriented, just as is the case with Lexus and their F-Sport for example. And while this car isn't going to compare against a BMW M, the 3 Series or the Mercedes C-Class are in it's cross-hairs. The SW-AWD system is more fun than people think with torque vectoring and for the right targeted market (which I can see isn't you) this car will have appeal. During my week with it I had a few people come up to ask me about it with great interest so it would seem that they have hit the sweet spot with a particular customer. Thanks for your comments though...always appreciated!

      Toyota for Life - you really let this great review go right over your head. You TOTALLY missed the point and start throwing out other cars. ACURA is famous for quality cars with more subtle performance - UNTIL this ASPEC which is AWESOME on SHAWD and powering around turns. I would encourage you to drive one - you’d be surprised and it would open your eyes a bit. There is more to the BMWs etc. ERIC - great job - very accurate, very well done.
