  • Acura TLX A Spec 2018 TestDriveNow Video Review By Auto Critic Steve Hammes. Acura’s just an SUV brand, right? Well, hold on for just one second. The NSX is one of the coolest cars I’ve ever driven. The RLX Sport Hybrid is one of the best kept secrets in the premium sedan segment. And now the TLX has undergone an A-Spec makeover, with the smoothness of a non-turbo V6 and the road-hugging capability of Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.
    MSRP as-tested: $45,795

I had an '09 TSX. Still wish they made that car. Very balanced performance, and not too large.

It’s about time Acura’s look like an Acura and act as such. Very good job they’ve done with the redesign.

Like your car review style, you always include the good and the bad of the vehicle you reviewed on.

Honestly haven’t been an Acura fan since the 2004-2008 TL & especially the Type S model but $45k for that newer A-Spec model would certainly raise it on my consideration list if I were in the market. - Great review as always!

Good review Steve... I do wonder if the 2.0T accord is faster than this tlx v6... I wonder because the 2.0 accord beats the 300hp Camry pretty good ... so with this tlx bein rated at 290 I wonder.. all bein sed I love Acura .. always have . I juss wish they would produce some faster cars to compete with Audi .. Mercedes .. bmw!!

it's not standard if you have to add the feature as a package; which is what is required for the A-spec digs. You can't get the A-spec looks/goodies w/o first adding the Tech pkg at $3.7k and then the $2.9k for the A-spec adding a huge $6.6k which is about 20% of the base MSRP and helps bring the 4cyl to just north or $40k. Acura makes a nice car that appeals to me, but I hate the packaging system and limited selections. The Still Night Blue Pearl w/the Red interior, 4cyl w/8spd DCT is how I'd get mine as that is as close to a manual I can get in this car. The white is nice too. Sadly, I still want 3 pedals and the Accord Sport or Civic Si is where I would rather put my money. TLX dreams w/Civic budget.

I think it’s a nice looking car. The interior looks very dated though. Also at almost $46k, I think I’d rather save 10-15 grand and have an Accord 2.0T instead. It does almost everything that this TLX will do and it will probably hold its value better as well.

Does anyone know the difference between the advance package and the technology package? If you get the advance do you get the technology automatically? And does it have a heated steering wheel by chance? Love this car.

This is the TLX to get. I test drove the one with the 2.4L inline-4 with the 8-sp. twin-clutch automatic. It's okay, but it had the stutter at low speeds. (That’s common with twin-clutch autos.). By the way, Steve, how's the 9-sp auto in your TLX tester? (He's experienced some hiccups in other Acura & Honda products with that transmission. )

I don't see a lot of the roads, before they refresh the car I did.

Actually like the styling on this one and I'm sure it handles great like you said... Actually had an RSX back in the day and loved it so I'm sure this would be great as well but... Still wish it had a little more power available as an option that put out a sub 5sec 0-60 like the Genesis G70 etc... It's got some great competition. Love your style of review Steve. Another well done review with some amazing driving shots! Keep it up!

"SH-AWD isn't especially rear-biased" It can send 70% of its power to the rear, and 100% to the left and right, to induce oversteer.
