      DS/Wii exploits are notoriously simple since there's no MMU protections like the NX (no execute) bit. Just gotta smash the stack and jump to the payload.

      It's amazing how brittle these ecosystems really are under the hood. The pretty menu graphics make it look impenetrable. If you have a chance, watch the DEFCON talk about hacking 20 devices in 45 minutes. Security is largely illusion and obscurity, it seems...

    Recently bought and modded a DSi, and it has now become my preferred way to play DS/DSi games! I've even dumped some saves from cartridge (using a 3DS) and put it onto the DSi's SD card, and it is awesome!
    The DS Lite, I have to rely on a cartridge, the 3DS the screen resolution is not the same as the DS, plus the SD card is inside the case. The DSi has the same resolution as the DS, and the SD card is easy to get to. Perfect for the job of running DS and DSi games.

    • @nitrax8629
      @nitrax8629 Před 5 lety +4

      yeah, the 3DS alongside DS flash cards pretty much turned attention away from the DSi until much later when people realised DSiWare exploits could be so useful for 3DS, then the shop closed on DSi so they turned attention to pre-installed stuff

  • @Gantann
    @Gantann Před 5 lety +1

    I remember around the time the DSi shop went down, I looked to see if it was possible to run dumped DSiWare and was supremely disappointed to find it couldn't be done. I don't know when someone figured it out, but I'm so happy to hear it! DSi really does have amazing screen quality that brings everything in the library up a notch and beats playing DS games on 3DS any day, so to be able to put the downloadable games back on it where they will look their best is wonderful! Plus, some DSiWare has been delisted over the years and isn't even obtainable on 3DS (Go! Go! Kokopolo shown at the end as an example, pleased to see that shown in the video like it was answering a question I hadn't asked yet).
