@@creampop8553 There's a reason consoles stopped calling themselves unhackable. You don't see the PS4, with it's BSD+Webkit lookin' ass claiming it's unhackable. You don't see the Xbox, with it's "everyone can use developer mode" lookin' ass claiming it's unhackable.
The Switch tried really hard, and got so very far -- there are no 100% software-based exploits. Even exploits that look software-based, like Deja Vu, have hardware-vulnerability components (bootrom doesn't initialize vectors, DMA controllers are not locked when going into deep sleep mode, etc.) It's Nvidia's fault, and the newer line of Switches, (with better battery life, or the Switch Lite,) will never be hackable to the same degree as the swiss-cheese launch model.
The Horizon team did a great job securing the Secure Monitor, the kernel, and their sysmodules, and they've still gotta deal with people reverse-engineering and re-implementing their OS.

I'm not buying right now snk heroines... That would be a lost sale based on your argument.
I'm not saying that piracy is ok, thats you going in a big tangent. I'm just saying that there is no way you can say that if some one pirated a game, that means they were willing to pay for it.
Contrary to popular belief... Most people that want to pay for a game usually pay for it, while people that don't want to pay for the games... Don't do it.
Yes of course there is a middle ground where people would buy the games, but choose the more practical way of doing it with piracy. But its impossible to tell how big this group of people is.
In truth there is a lot of people that bought a DS just because they knew about the R4 and how easy it was, but wouldn't bother with the console otherwise. The same for a lot of psp owners.

I'm no mind reader so I can't say if it was written that way intentionally or not, but you cannot say with certainty that a pirated copy is a lost sale, and to report as such is an inaccuracy. Several reports have debunked this theory, often leading to the conclusion that video game piracy may in fact help sales rather than hinder them, and it is much more accurate to say that playing a pirated copy of a video game is an attempt to assess the game and is no more or less destructive to sales than the act of playing a demo version of said game. Who would control their computer with the DS? That sounds horrible!

Loved the AceKard that I had back in the day.

I used to have an R4 card. Most of my childhood games my parents bought properly and there were just a couple random games on the R4

A Google User same here, I always bought the Pokémon and Zelda games, but there were always some games that I wanted to check out.

My best experience with DS homebrew was connecting to the DS’s “discontented” WFC being able to get event Pokémon and Items from Generation 4 & 5 without any modification or outside programs. I was finally able to play the liberty Pass event in Black and White Amun’s other things.

Ah man the R4 defined my DS era gaming. Some of the Homebrew games were very creative, the fan-made Line Rider port and Pocket Physics to name a few

    That's weird
My R4 copy of Mass Attack loaded just fine, though for some reason half the music in the game sounds slightly distorted or corrupted

Mass Attack was one of the best Kirby games.

I love this "lost sales" bullshit. The odds of someone who was going to pirate something buying it at new cost or being able to afford it at new cost just because "it's not allowed" are slim

Homebrew days were some of the best. It was incredible to try out the custom apps like ms paint, media players, ms word, and other random apps pushing hardware limits.

Honestly, that whole bit of them going after flash cards feels like serious overreaching on their part. Also, wouldn't be surprised if they would one day go out of their way to kill the home-brew scene.

    • @Matanumi
      @Matanumi Před 4 lety +2

They just wanted to stop piracy since it fucked em so hard for Gen 4 Pokemon. Your right though very overreaching

Based on the excuses gamers make over hacking, I'd almost rather leave an alchoholic alone and trust he won't steal my beer, than I would trust any gamer not to copy all my games.
