    • @SMNFXCN
      @SMNFXCN Před rokem +50

      depends. it's personal preference though. third party emulators have more options and only can take up 1 slot on the home menu, while each virtual console inject will take 1.
      it's good for people who have only a few games they want to inject, just not for people who have the entire console library at once. although i do like the crt w/console banner for each inject

    The homebrew scene for the 3DS at its peak absolutely cleared even the greats for modding like the Wii and OG Xbox. I don't think there will be another time in history where piracy on a console will be as ridiculously blatant and easy as it was on the 3DS. In 2016 Freeshop was the most busted tool imaginable, you could pirate any nintendo eShop game OFF OF THEIR OWN SERVERS and play them online. There was no ticket checking to ban you for using someone else's digital games, so as long as someone uploaded their ticket to a digital database you could use that ticket to download the game or dlc off of the eShop without losing any features. That's like the equivalent of going to Walmart, stealing something, and flipping off the security camera on the way out. The risk of getting banned back then was so low that people stopped using the clean sysnand/dirty emunand technique altogether. That all came to an end for obvious reasons, but being able to see something like that in a console's lifetime was absolutely wild
    My favorite QoL homebrew was probably Mario maker course downloader and the one that let you change the color of the spotpass LED

    Just sayin the New 3DS doesn't have a faster CPU, it actually has the same one... it just has 2 of them, so it has more overall RAM to work with and can fit more into RAM at any given time (hence why games like xenoblade require it due to the sheer size of the game, in order to handle draw distance, enemies, etc. for example)

    • @VexAcer
      @VexAcer Před rokem +9

      Yes and No. Yes it does have more cores overall (Dual Core on the O3DS to Quad Core on the N3DS).
      Also yes it's the same CPU, but no it was clocked higher at 804Mhz vs. the 268Mhz of the original.
      Hyrule Warriors is interesting since it's basically a N3DS game that they let you run on old systems. It runs like a dog on the old systems, basically 20fps and under all the time. N3DS runs it at a super stable 30fps in comparison, the performance only notably drops with 3D (and that's probably a GPU bottleneck anyway since it's unchanged between both systems).

  • @Hopper_Arts

    You forgot that for the emulation part for most of the consoles listed you could just use the new super ultimate virtual console injector, which turns roms from various consoles (even the wanderswan and neo geo pocket, and psx for some reason) into cias to install directly into your 3ds homescreen, and they function practically just like actual virtual console games, now i have mother 3 on my 3ds and it works flawlessly because it's using the 3ds's built in emulator.
    Wanderswan ran surprisingly well, neo geo pocket had audio issues but otherwise ran smoothly, and psx was very shaky, but hell, it worked.
    Also, my brother in christ, the ammount of mods out there for the 3ds fire emblem games is astonishing, how did you not see em, there's ones that just straight up are their own games.
    And finally there is an english translation for the 3ds japanese only port of final fantasy, which is pretty neat.

  • @Maywind84
    @Maywind84 Před rokem +3

    Thanks for a wonderful video! I'd like to add my $0.02 to the mix :) 3DS homebrew also includes some really amazing emulators for old 8-bit computers. Some of the best ones include ZXDS for ZX Spectrum emulation (which is T-state accurate), Vice3DS which is a really faithful and awesome port of Vice that emulates Commodore 64. There's also uae3ds which emulates Amiga 500, and while it's not completely finished and not fully compatible with all the titles, it can run quite a good number of A500 games at full speed and with good graphics and sound/music. On the emulation side, RetroArch isn't actually as bad as they say it is for certain scenarios, at least on New 2DS/3DS. In particular, Genesis emulation via Genesis Plus GX works very well (and runs full speed at least for most games), my experience with it was better than Picodrive for certain games. PS1 emulation via PCSX Rearmed is really amazing (and surprising!) once you tweak the settings (there's a guide on gbatemp, you can get many 3D games including the likes of Tekken 3 to run at full or near-full speed most of the time with no sound stuttering; it takes some time to configure things and ideally you need to convert the images to .chd format, but once you do it, it runs surprisingly well, and tbh it doesn't even take that much time to do it). TwilightMenu is a really decent homebrew app that runs DS games natively on a 3DS. It can also run DS homebrew natively, at least the majority of it - e.g. I was able to play the VanillaConquer C&C port for DS on my New 2DS through it.

    There are mods for every single one of the Gen 6 and 7 Pokemon games, and they can make those games FAR more difficult than they are by default. Pokemon Rutile Ruby and Star Sapphire come to mind.
    That's Pokemon for you though, having a fan base so dedicated to the game and its mechanics that there are mods or romhacks of all 9 Generations and even some of the spin-off titles like the 2 Gamecube games, Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness.

    An emulator you missed, and the reason I bought a 3DS (a 'New' 3DS XL) is Vice3DS, a port of the popular Commodore 64 emulator. It works very well on the 'new' 3DS and 3DS XL. I understand that it can be slow on the original 3DS models, although I haven't personally tried it on one. The dual-screen device makes for a nice handheld C64 as the top screen shows the normal screen output and the touchscreen has a virtual keyboard always available, plus some shortcuts for emulator functions.
    There is even an emulator for the Vectrex! Not tried it yet, and I have never even seen a Vectrex in the flesh, so can't comment on how well it works.

    Great video for anyone looking into getting the most out of their console. My circle pad also disintegrated suddenly, lol. It somewhat works, but I should replace it somehow. Is there any app/mod that allows you to easily streetpass a VIP mii or something? Or to get extra play coins? I'm slightly annoyed that I can't complete my 3D puzzles. Also, I can understand why you didn't mention it in the video but hshop is pretty nice. You can download games directly to the 3DS, although the download speed is very slow.

    The best way to do just about any emulation for 3ds has to be the Virtual Console. Runs like *butter*
    if you're running something like a randomized rom of a game and it'd be a pain to delete from virtual console, there is the option to use open_agb. It's run by holding Select while powering the system up, similarly to gm9, and uses the Virtual DS mode to run the games.
    I swear, open_agb is better than some emulators some times.

    2:55 Doing that could actually damage your console
    That method makes it so instead of using the dsi "inside" your 3ds to run those games, it uses the same processor as the 3DS itself, which means is basically emulating it without being powerful enough to actually endure it for long
    No much will happen for a while, that stuff damages it until some months of constantly playing like that
