    As someone who deals with high anxiety and did theater both amateur and professional, the way ther "voices" leave when she gets on stage is actually something I experienced. It's called the mask of glass, and basically totally embrassing a character so much that nothing from the real you is shown. When I acted, I was so focused on my character (which is not me) that all my anxiety diseapeared as I played, and yes it comes back after the euphoria of the play fades out. It's a thechnique I still use today for presentation, acting as if I was someone else so my anxiety go away.

    For people wondering why these movies were made, let me enlighten you: Jodi's actress Ava Michelle used to be on a reality TV show called Dance Moms, where the crazy dance teacher Abby Lee Miller bullied her for being taller than the other dancers in her age group. This led to the creation of these terrible movies, despite the fact that she was bullied by a crazy woman and no-one sane actually cares that she's tall. So yeah.

Which only comes off as incredibly arrogant and entitled, especially for people with actual serious problems watching this or even people who suffered more serious bullying during school. She's not wrong at all when she said that the fact that there were much worse problems than being tall out there don't invalidate her own suffering, but they never show her suffering anything other than being called ridiculous names and being pranked once, all the while having a million things going her way. Neither of these movies tried to show the actual bad sides of being tall, like any of your examples, just the most unrealistic bullying ever that doesn't even make sense at the end of the day because she was not even that much taller than everyone else in the school, and you just had to look at the background characters for five seconds to figure that out.

    Emily Ting and her script writer must’ve brought Stig back for the sequel film because she saw how Stranger Things redeemed Steve’s character from bein an asshole jock to a nerdy friend of the group.
    Problem is that unlike The Duffer Brothers, the person who wrote Tall Girl 2 didn’t know how to properly write Stig’s character.

    Edit #2: I can fully relate to havin an absolutely horrible panic attack. It happened right after I broke up with my girlfriend for nearly a year (it literally happened 5 days from what was gonna be our one year anniversary) and it formed from my lingerin thoughts at the time which were “I can’t live my life without her” and “I don’t know what I’m gonna do now”, thankfully I called one of my main best friends right as it was happenin and he eventually helped me calm down. I think they did better here by just making it normal insecurity, rather than focusing specifically on height. The first movie, ESPECIALLY the opening narration, felt really goofy for treating it like the worst thing ever. It matter but it feels so off when she explains discrimination to her black friend because she's 6'1".
      Also 6'1" isn't even that tall for a girl, at least as I've seen, so the perspectives they used to make her a giant just made the whole thing feel even more goofy.
      I think in any case both movies meant well and didn't do anything seriously bad, just meh coming of age stories for teen girls. It's okay.

    I find it shocking that a film, complaining about the struggles of being tall, didn't address any of the health issues that come with it. Me and my family are very tall so we often can't comfortably in most chairs without bending our knees out or having back and joint pains because you have to bend all the way down to cook or clean. Ironically the girl only complains about being judged and bullied for her height which in reality, being tall is liked and respected by others most of the time.

      @trianglemoebius Před 2 lety +152

      Strong agree. I was very tall at one point in my life (I had to have spinal surgery which ended up shrinking me) and I had a bunch of medical problems from it. Basically, I grew faster than my body could handle (that's an over-simplification, but it gets the gist across) and so my body was in a real bad place for a long time. This isn't a cry for sympathy - the various problems have been solved and I'm healthy now, but Tall Girl 2 could have had a good point.
      Basically, after Jodi gains acceptance, things start to go wrong with her health. The moral could be that just because something seems minor (how bad is being tall anyway?) doesn't mean it can't have larger issues behind the scenes. Issues that the average person might not consider. A lesson in empathy, in the fact that everyone has their own issues, and sometimes those issues CAN be serious.

    I'm guessing they were trying to portray Imposter Syndrome and the idea that success won't just wipe away anxiety, but they did it so poorly that it appears she's suffering from some kind of mental break. Similarly I think they wanted to portray PewdiePie2 as being more well-rounded and not just a stock villain, while also trying to make the characters not just forget and move on from the behavior he displayed the previous movie, but were again so bad at it that it's just weird. I have no answer for the rest of the weird plot threads or the bully going from 'drug her' to helping her at the end. I guess her being dumped by her sidekick was supposed to be a moment of realizing she was a bad person.
    It's really like the writers had studied a bunch of 'this is how you make a good story/these are bad tropes in story writing' essays and attempted to put those lessons into practice, but had so little skill that it just came out confused.
