It would be better as a series, with an over arching plot about a a secret organisation that wants to harness the powers of the balloon without the weakness of it touching the ground
@CheeseParade what if you surgically implant the balloon inside of you, and then say "if this balloon touches the ground I die". Will you become immortal? Since you are indestructible, the balloon will now be unacceptable if this works
A detail, immediately after he unfocuses from the balloon being near the ground the “inmate” immediately looks at the table where the knife is as well as the pick pocket
Pop the balloon, stuff the pieces in a small cube shaped box. Close the larger box and seal it with something indestructible. Now the balloon will always be in a container sitting on a table.

Okay, so there are two options here: 1) The floor counts as "the ground" and the balloon only understands up to 1 transitive property, since the inmate would die if the box was placed onto the floor (the box is the only item between the balloon and the floor = 1 t.p.), but was still alive when the box was placed onto the table (box + table = 2 t.p.). Ergo, placing the box in another box would assure safety of the balloon and the person. 2) The floor doesn't count as "the ground" and we simply add one more transitive property (the floor is connected to the building, and the building is connected to the actual ground, so the floor = 1 t.p.). Then you just put it in 3 boxes and still win. Of course, we're missing important info still. I don’t think it’s the amount of items between the ballon and the ground, but the elevation.
