Many of you are likely well-acquainted with my established status as a gamer, in fact, probably one of the best gamers there is out there, truth is, I only don’t compete in tournaments because I’d really hate to put any of those competitive players out of a job, especially when I am so blessed to have alternative sources of entertainment. Yes, my field of interest isn’t merely restricted to one meadow, you see, like most people, I love a good mystery, and today, we have nothing less than one of the online’s world’s strangest happenings. One that has baffled observers, and even after its resolution, left far more questions than answers. Nonetheless, whereas most of our topics are embroilments on our resident platform, we have to turn our attention to one of CZcams’s contemporaries, and dare I say it, competitors for today’s situation: Twitch.
Twitch, like CZcams, is a video-sharing platform, where one can tune in to their favourite creators and view various genres of content. However, unlike CZcams, Twitch’s format prioritises livestreams, which often provides more direct interaction between a creator, the content, and their audience. CZcams also offers this feature, and most people have taken advantage of it at some point, however, as CZcams isn’t thought to provide the same attention to it that Twitch does, most tend to opt for the latter when it comes to streaming. With that said, Twitch isn’t without its issues either, many of which have been on display in the last few years, particularly their policy which has often led to accusations of hypocrisy and double standards.
Now, with these large platforms, some sort of double standard is inevitable, particularly given the special treatment that larger creators have been known to afford. With that said, Twitch’s attempts to find any “consistency”, have often led to criticisms of the opposite, and their nature to double down hasn’t helped that. I’m not going to detail each individual example because we’d be here all year, but their lack of transparency on the matter has left some streamers being indefinitely banned for the most milquetoast of faux pas, and in the livestreaming scene where there are no editing tools between the video and viewer, that can be risky business. On the other hand though, there are the platform darlings, who have been welcomed back despite multiple breaches of their supposed all-encompassing creator guidelines. For many, there’s unfairness, and then there’s Twitch.
There are a fair few theories about why Twitch is so wildly inconsistent, but I think the most deeply rooted one is that simply put, they’re a business, they need to hold on to the main sources of that business, especially when there are alternative platforms offering the same service. If they went and banned their biggest names, even if it was for good reason, those names may just migrate to a competitor who will tolerate their antics, taking all their audience, and income, with them. Even if it leads to greater moral inconsistency, their current practice keeps their platform afloat, which is probably their prime concern. However, at the core of this pretty logically sound explanation, there is one rather significant exception to that rule, so, I think it’s high time to introduce our title character…

It always amazes me how hard-core Twitch is about their bans. Even CZcams will let banned people appear on someone else's channel for a couple minutes.
There is zero consistency in their ban durations or reasons. Twitch is on a steep decline and has been atleast since banning doc
I think the problem is that they're extremely inconsistent with their bans, which might be why they settled with Doc out of court.
Like, they only gave a week-long ban to a person having full-on sex on stream. Permabanning one of their biggest streamers, breaking their contract with him, and not providing a reason is laughable, but it might have led to the settlement.
Like, it's possible that whatever he was permabanned for he could have said in court "At least I didn't have sex on stream. Hey, what happened to that lady who had sex on stream? Did she get permanently banned? No, well, why not, you did it to me?"

My personal theory is that whatever he was banned for was during the ‘rise’ of Mixer. He did something that was a bannable offense, but due to Mixer poaching Twitch’s streamers, Twitch feared that if they banned Doc he would immediately move to Mixer, bringing a chunk of his viewer base with him. Docs move to Mixer could have some substantial impacts on the streaming community at the time, as he was one of the biggest. In order to avoid this, Twitch waited to ban Doc until Mixer went under. While I know fuck all about streaming contracts, it’s possible that whatever he was to be banned for was long enough ago that it was no longer applicable. He would use that as a basis for his legal case, but during the discussion with Twitch, someone would bring up that whatever he got banned for would likely happen again, leading him to a settlement.
This is what I always thought, that twitch was trying to back out of paying him as much. Since mixer was going under anyways.
Literally only theory I have is that he faked a better offer from Mixer (he definitely got atleast some offer) to milk more from a Twitch contract, was found out and banned
@@ThePussukka I think this is what the COD voice actor said as well but it doesn't make much sense when you break down the timeline but I think a lot of little contextual things don't add up with the theory that they lied about a contract. It's important to remember that Doc is represented by CAA as well, a major talent agency who would have been negotiating the deal on Doc's behalf with his input of course but that was occurring in the fall of 2019 based on comments I've seen Doc make. CAA also represents Ninja who was signed to an exclusivity deal shortly after mixer shut down. Contextually I don't think that if CAA negotiated in bad faith with Twitch that they would then sign another CAA represented streamer. That being said, I definitely think they sat on something Doc did and that when mixer went under they saw a way out of a massive contract.
In my theory, Twitch paid Doc a huge amount of money to make him not go to Mixer. However, when they find out Mixer's fall, they banned Doc to not pay the money they agreed
@@DomSte128 That's basically my thought as well, you can see in the twitch payout leak that he was like #10 for the period the leak covered and he hadn't been on the platform for almost 6 months when that happened. My guess is they wanted to get out from under all the money, maybe even asked to renegotiate and doc/CAA turned down the offer.

Honestly this reminds me of that time I got a new contract with a gas company (for heating) and they terminated the contract with no reason and no legal standpoint because the prices suddenly went through the roof and it just wasn't feasable for them to keep me for 2 years for half the price. I got money as compensation but only because my sister told me it wasn't lega for them to do that. I honestly think this could be the same scenario with Dr. Disrespect. Companies that huge are just shitty like that

Photosensitive epilepsy is not common but it may be diagnosed when you have an EEG test. Flashing or patterned effects can make people with or without epilepsy feel disorientated, uncomfortable or unwell. Clears it up for you? Also it's just a reaction in the brain that triggers epilepsy

It was weird that once he was banned, Twitch was signing people for an insane amount of money. Maybe they were paying the Doc big money and when Mixer went down, they knew they didn't have to pay out a big contract to him. So they banned him and said he violated the community guidelines. That's what I think.

of course this is the answer, cant believe i had to scroll so far for it. Twitch grinded the numbers found out its not worth it to keep him around for the contract engaged now that compettitions eliminated; he filmed in a public restroom - ban, breach of contract no money for you. Done, simple.
I'm confused how XQC still is allowed to stream on twitch, he is worse then Dr. Disrespect in almost every way and flat out breaks TOS with twitch holding a vote that XQC floods with fans to get going in his favor. When Dr is not the most ad friendly it is really damning with the people who are allowed to stay who aggressively break the rules.

There was an assault alegation, we even know about the girl and the NDA... When a large company dismisses such a large money maker like this, it's because whatever happened was so serious they have no choice. Also I believe he knows why he was fired because the amount of money involved finances teams of employees for both the Dr and twitch. They know why it ended. He either doesn't want to admit what it was or he can't because there is an NDA or I think he would have told us. And I think the ppl involved said it was really bad but wouldn't say what was to protect the victim. I think that's why the doc agreed to not tell anyone why he was fired in the lawsuit.
At the very least we should assume whatever he did is worse then what the others did because all we do know is what he did got him banned.... 😕 This whole thing really sucks....twitch needs to be honest and clear cuz there's a chance he didn't break rules the way others did who knows.
@@evanjuleen Even that is shaky because we've seen people assault others on stream without getting banned. Heck, there's people who've been accused of creating CP, and murder, that still stream on Twitch.
That's the issue. On a site like Twitch where almost no one has received bans for breaking the rules and doing truly terrible things, Doctor Disrespect was the one who got arguably the most serious ban ever given in the history of the site.
@@evanjuleen I feel like that's a very cut-and-dry ban though. Assaulting a fellow streamer has always been a big obvious no-no and not really something you could sue and win over. Unless the accusation turned out to be false? Also when it's revealed that a streamer is an abuser, there's usually multiple victims, and that kind of stuff just does not stay in the bag.
I never saw a single video or stream of Dr Disrespect, and even so, news about his ban and what it could mean and what caused it reached my ears from completely different circles of interest. That ban was massive, I feel like no one, specially no one at Twitch, knew how big it would get the moment it went off.

Exactly what i needed, an unimportant video to get me away from the stuff im supposed to do.
Doc streaming on CZcams also really helped his lawsuit. It's hard to prove damages in court, since a lot of it is theoretical. The big thing with being on youtube is that Doc established a very clear loss of revenue he could factually provide compared to what he used to make, which is huge. This is also near the time that Twitch embraced the Hot Tub Meta, which is now ironically killing the platform as they are encouraging all the views to give them money on other platforms/directly instead while also scaring off a ton of advertisers.

Regarding twitch itself. Considering the recent announcements of worse cuts for creators and so on I think youtube would have a big big chance to slowly bleed out twitch over a long span of time if they bettered discoverability for streamers. If the youtube streaming section would be nearly as easy to brows as twitch i feel twitch would lose many of new talent with the latest announcements they made.
Yt shorts help some people get discovered so everyone is gradually using it. I love how many new people I've found. And I like some of the content people I was already subscribed to are trying out. I also still love long content or docus, but sometimes it's fun to scroll and see what you get. So I firmly believe streaming could eventually take off if easily discoverable and not complicated to use/post.
@@theflowerhead The problem with streaming is that it's not about just discovering a creator, but knowing when they are going live, and having a good chat system. CZcams has really failed in these areas. There's some I watch where I just never catch their live streams unless it's following a schedule and I seek it out and have it up ahead of time.

It's a lot simpler than this video makes it out to be. Twitch settled to avoid DISCOVERY. In the discovery phase of the trial, Dr. DisRespect's lawyers would have unfettered access to their internal documents including everything regarding bans, shadow bans and previous cases and their reasoning as well as terms of service agreements. This is just the tip of the Iceberg of what can be sought in the discovery phase of a trial and the main reason companies who have "secretive" processes avoid going to trial. This settlement will also include an NDA between the parties involved.

I think the end of mixer, the return of Ninja and other streamers that left for mixer, and the doc's newly fattened contract had a lot to do with his ban. He was a dangerous bet to begin with and would have been easy to find a reason to ban him. Just say that he broke contract, and recoup that money to fatten other large and less controversial streamers who were weighing their options with Twitch and CZcams. Always follow the money.

I think this was most likely the main reason too. Like, I don't think it was the ONLY reason, I think Twitch saw how controversial he is and they wanted to revamp their image, but the financial reasons were the motivation for banning him bc the only way to get out of the expensive contract was to ban him. Ppl are saying he must've been accused of something serious like assault - but plenty of streamers have had accusations and not been banned. Sinatraa was accused of SA with some pretty damning evidence and still streams to 100k+ viewers all the time. They didn't want to pay Dr. Disrespect anymore bc they could divert that money to someone like Ninja who is seen as a more wholesome / kid friendly streamer.
Totally agree. Typical corporate behaviour. We are talking about Amazon and Jeff Bezos here. Only he would be so blatant as to have a brand new $500,000,000 ship built, whilst the world is suffering inflation, recession and uncertain times, and when an organisation that resembles a Blofeld Look-a-like convention (The WEF) suddenly seem as though they are running the world. I think the Doc was more gutted about getting played by Twitch, than anything else to do with that platform. A performer generally doesn't care where they perform, so long as they have an audience.

Before watching this video, I assume that these recent videos have been coming out faster than the previous year mostly because they have all been worked on concurrently or progress was made long ago. There was a gap of around half a year between the Dream video and the Creep Art video after all.
Some may point to length, but the previous two videos are among the longest on the channel with this one still not being short.
I love videos like these, like murder mysteries but for drama. Good with a coffee and pastrie on a cold rainy day.

If Twitch resolved the leagl dispute outside court, its F-ing obvious that the Dr had a strong case, if his case was weak Twitch would never settle it and take it to court and win.
the funny thing is, this isn't even true for regular people. in fact, it's well documented that people (on a whole) lean towards settlement because settlements are quicker and easier. you can settle things in the manner of months. if they took it trial, then there's a possibility that they could be locked into the trial/court process for years. as a company, it's incredibly easier to settle out of court, take the slight hit to reputation for that brief moment of time, and then move on without addressing the situation because it has been handled. on top of that, because neither party admitted wrong doing but was able to mediate out of court, both parties actually came out better for it.
(also, dr himself admitted that neither party admitted to wrong doing, so even he acknowledges the potential for the case to swing either way.)
*edit to add:* i'm not on either side here because frankly, both sides are shit imo. twitch is a large corporation/platform that has consistently shown bias and general inconsistency about their own rules across the platform. dr. disrespect does and says things consistently that also are annoying and problematic in their own ways.

Everything gets super messy from then on and I'm not even going to try and properly describe BC I know I will get something wrong, but there are videos about it on youtube
