    WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

''Because I have trust and faith in what Christianity teaches which prioritizes love for that creator and love of my neighbor.'' That doesn't answer why you believe, Jeffrey.

Please call again, Jeffrey. Love the progress that you guys have made.
unlike from troll callers like Rob and EF, which are 100% waste of time, energy, and effort.

Yes. It sounded like he was cherry-picking the bible without knowing about it, and when they brought up the genocide and such, he sounded like there was a chance for him to turn around.

I choose to believe that? I don't think anyone can believe something out of choice. Belief is a matter of what's persuaded your mind. Not what you choose. Is it not?

You can choose to accept or dismiss evidence. If you choose to accept enough flawed evidence, or you choose to dismiss enough valid evidence - different beliefs form. In that sense, choice definitely can play a part in what a person believes. And once a belief is formed, you can choose not to re-evaluate it. This is why some people will stick their fingers in their ears rather than listen to real evidence that might compel them to change their beliefs. They are choosing not to hear it.

Suppose you are a Christian lifeguard at the beach and two children are drowning. One child is a good Christian child and is praying to God to be saved and the other child is a bad atheist child and is screaming, swearing, cursing and shouting for you to save him. You can only save one child and as a Christian lifeguard which one would you save? Obviously as a good Christian you would save the atheist child because the good Christian child is already saved by Jesus and will go to heaven and by saving the atheist you give him another chance of being saved by Jesus but do you think the Christian parents would understand and accept your reason for you choosing to allow their good Christian child to drown?

What's amazing is how little many of these callers actually know about what they claim to believe and about what is in the book they base their belief on. I have had similar conversations with self-proclaimed 'Marxists' who, it turns out, have never read a word of Marx and really know next to nothing about his writings. This 'belief' is a strange creature.

Religion is the most diverse form of inhumane division & discrimination ever thought up. All it does is keep people under an unofficial conformity & control the limits of our possibilities.

Religion allows us to justify our worst impulses. It's totally imaginary and useless as a way to explain the world around us but it gives us a way to "forgive" ourselves for appalling behavior that somehow is what a non-existent deity wants from us.

You are so patient. "What is original sin?" I would already lost my patience here. We all know. We all grew up in a predominant Christian society. Especially in the US where there are churches on every street corner and on every street is some billboard warning people of eternal hellfire.

This caller has found a book that contains a couple of passages that align with his values. Because of that, he has decided that he is a Christian. He ignores everything in it that doesn’t align with his pre-existing morals whereas a traditional Christian believes that the bible in its entirety is the truth of God.
Jeffrey is not a Christian in any sense of the word. He could find as much to align with in the Qu’ran as he finds in the bible - possibly more so - and by his own logic, he’s as much a Muslim as he is a Christian.
He is actually operating on his own self-determined morality while incorrectly labeling himself a Christian. If he wants to become part of an organized religion - he should understand what he’s signing up for (the good and the bad) before adopting the label. To me, it seems pretty clear that he is against some of the core beliefs common to Christianity.

Paragon Of virtue What a strange comment to make. I know enough about the Quran to make the reference to it that I made in my previous comment. @@cnault3244 so are going to stop death by not killing someone? no one day that person is still going to die.death cannot be stopped whether it be out of old age or because of being in a gang. sure we can enjoy more life by living more and am all for that the more the better.so am not for killing someone am just giving perspective. i dont see any god showing up anytime soon so i guess death will not seize and i guess we have to get used to.as far as the christians well alot of them wouldnt mind being killed your go back to rome and its clear in other books that they mostly all died for their faith.a christian suppodely seems to be at peace either way so why for them would it be wrong. christ supposedly supernaturally strengthens them they have a saying thats its not all about a mental accent it becames a bit more about matter over mind.its crazy logically speaking in a natural way but if its true and all supernatural for christians why would it matter.maybe it would be okay for a christian to kill another christian. and maybe memontery death is inescapable but if theres a hell forever well that is not worth its just because one didnt want to die or obey god.
