Yeah, it is frustrating, but Atheists must bear with it and forgive (genuine) Christians for they do not know what they believe... most Christians were indoctrinated and sold the nonsense since childhood for generations.
The "light" at the end of the tunnel is Religion overall is on its way out, church attendance continues to decline, and more Christians are leaving Religion for various reasons - LGBQT bigotry, increasingly political, sexual abuse, scammers etc...
The facts and trend, unlike Religion, are not lying.
More and more people leaving Religion as they discover they can and are having a moral and spiritual life without Religion and the god beliefs.
I suspect however Religion will become increasingly desperate to try and remain relevant before it inevitably dies.
i.e. shove Bibles in public schools, legislate Christian laws, "Christian nationalism", more scummy apologists and proselytizing etc..

@@paulgemme6056 you, you personally, get all your morality and ethics from outside the Bible. And I can prove it. You get your morality and ethics from the exact same place atheists do. You personally, do not live exactly as the Bible commands you to. And that's a good thing because the Bible is an evil book that commands you to commit evil acts. The fact that you don't commit those evil acts (because if you did you'd be in prison, unable to post on CZcams) means you're a far far more moral and ethical person than the Bible wants you to be, because you get your entire moral code from outside the Bible. And I can prove it.
It's the practice of secular humanism. Essentially, the idea that morality is secular and objective. You make just one single subjective concession, the idea that helping as many humans as much as possible is a good thing, but then everything else other than that is objectively moral, objectively working towards that goal, and it all stems and grows from that original goal, that original maxim that it's a good thing to help people.
People who only act good and charitable because they're coerced into it by the threat of eternal torture, aren't good people.
Honestly, most Christians are better, more moral and ethical people than the bible commands them to be. Christians already get their code of morality from outside the bible or any other religious sources, just like atheists do. But they don't seem to realise that, because they never bother to actually read the bible and find out about the awful stuff it tells people to do.
Because Jesus was a bigot. Most Christians are far more moral and ethical people than jesus ever was, they're better people than him. The proof is the Bible itself. They're better people than the Bible literally commands them to be. Because Christians get their code of morality from outside the bible, just like atheists do. I don't think anyone actually needs the bible in their life. Most Christians are already better people than the bible wants them to be, so why need it at all? They already pick and choose which parts of the bible to follow, they don't follow everything it tells them to do, which proves they already get their morality from outside the bible anyway, because they just inherently know that things like slavery and murder and physically punishing young girls for being rape victims are evil and wrong, even though the Bible says it's OK.

Because jesus explicitly says in the bible in Matthew 5:17 _EVERY_ _SINGLE_ _LAW_ _AND_ _RULE_ in the Old Testament still applies and will continue to apply until the end of time. In John 7:16-19 he berates people for disobeying the old testament, and in Luke 15:17 he says it's easier for the universe to fall apart than for one single letter of the law to.

So picking and choosing which parts you wanna follow is literally disobeying a direct command from jesus. You either follow literally every single law in the bible unwaveringly, or you're not actually a Christian, and that's according to Jesus himself quoted word for word in the bible.

And so if you already aren't getting your morality from the bible at all, why even need it in the first place? Most Christians in the world are absolutely 100% more moral people than the Bible asks them to be, they are already far better people than the Bible thinks they should be. They're surely against slavery, against genocide, against murder, against rape and especially the rape of children, against women and children having to obey the man that owns them (father or husband) and if they don't obey everything their owner says, the owners are allowed to kill the women and children to death for disobeying, and still are allowed into heaven because it "doesn't count" as murder under those circumstances. That's what the Bible tells people to do, follow those objectively evil commandments, like murder and slavery and rape being OK. The vast majority of Christians are against all of those things. They are already good people, so why should they need to read a book where anything that agrees with what they already think, they keep, and anything that disagrees with what they already think, they ignore? They pick and choose from the bible because it's obvious which parts of it are objectively evil, and so if the Bible never says these things are evil, then how does anyone know that they are evil at all? Because morality comes from outside the Bible. Morality is secular and objective, and it's the same morality atheists follow, and the vast majority of all religious people follow. It doesn't come from any holy book. Because if it did, then they wouldn't ignore half of the rules in their holy books.

By picking and choosing which parts to follow, they're proving that your morality comes from outside the Bible, because otherwise they wouldn't know which parts are good and which are not, if their morality didn't come from outside of the bible, then they wouldn't know which parts are so bad that you have to ignore them to be a good person. Nobody had to ever tell them that murder and slavery is bad, they just know it. Because humans are inherently moral and morality is secular. The minority of people who aren't like that don't represent the other 99% of humans. Humans are naturally altruistic and charitable. It's how the human race survived several near extinction events. Because people worked together in communities and tribes, meanwhile all the individualistic and selfish people died off in ice ages or catastrophic volcano eruptions or any other of the near extinction events. The human race was down to just a few thousand people, a few thousand survivors, and everyone alive today is descended from that small group who worked together to survive, and it's why humans are naturally altruistic and charitable and they help their fellow man because they know it's the objectively moral thing to do.
      ⠀ ⠀
So why even need the Bible at all, then? If your morality already comes from outside the bible, which is why you don't own people as property, or murder your wife and child for disobeying you, or go around raping children. You know those are bad ideas, without anybody ever needing to tell you that. The Bible never had to tell you murder is bad and immoral for you to understand that. That belief of yours already existed before you read the bible. Someone who's morality hypothetically _DOES_ come from the bible would need to be told by the Bible that murder is bad, and they wouldn't have known that otherwise.

The vast majority of Christians are far more moral ethical people than the Bible commands them to be. Very very few Christians follow the Bible word for word even though Jesus literally commanded them to do and said that anyone who doesn't follow every law both big and small, wouldn't get into heaven.

So the bible is just an unnecessary extra step. Your morality is already there, you don't need to spend time double checking it, by using the bible, and then ignoring any time the Bible doesn't agree with you anyway. The Bible is not going to change your mind on things like slavery and child rape, you're going to not follow those parts of the bible anyway, so it's just a waste of your time reading through it all like that. Christian's morality is not based on the Bible, it never was, it comes from outside of it. So why waste time going through it all like that if it is not going to change your morality anyway? No, in fact, the bible has to adjust to _YOU_ and _YOUR_ morality, by the fact you throw out the bits that don't agree with you. That's how the vast majority of Christians treat the bible. It's why in countries like here in the UK, there's plenty of gay priests, and gay church goers, because it's accepted. They threw out the evil command that being gay is an abomination, because their morality come from outside the bible and they know that being homophobic is wrong without anyone ever needing to teach them that. No holy book ever told them homophobia is wrong, they just know it.
Most Christians are good people, or at least much better than what the bible wants them to be. Not because anyone ever had to tell them how to be a good person. No, they're good person people because they were born that way, and 99% of humans are the same way, naturally moral and ethical and kind and altruistic and charitable.

@@JayMaverick the point of any debate or discussion like this isn't to change the mind of the person you're arguing with. That's impossible. You'll never change their mind. Because when human beings are presented with arguments and evidence that debunks their beliefs, they actually become MORE entrenched in their beliefs and believe them even more. It's just a weird quirk of how human brains work. Partly because people are too embarrassed and ashamed to ever publicly admit that they were wrong. If their beliefs are public, they'll never possibly be changed or reversed.
No, the point of discussions and debates like this is to change the minds of the people listening to or watching the debate. The silent observers. The audience, the crowd. They simply watch. They never profess their beliefs to the thousands of people watching. And therefore their minds are extremely changeable. They can have their beliefs completely reversed and because they never told anyone what those beliefs were, they don't have the human psychological stubbornness that makes them even more entrenched in their false beliefs, they can change their minds completely and nobody will ever know.
So you'll never change the mind of the person you're debating with. But you _CAN_ change the minds of the thousands of people who are watching the debate. It's an extremely effective way to do so.

Why are these people not challenged to FIRST convince the rest of the world's religious people to accept their version of the gods? Their personal interpretation of whatever version of the religion they claim to espouse and speak for contains NOTHING worth debating about, any more than we would debate the particulars of the Greek or Egyptian gods. Wouldn't their time be more productively spent rescuing the souls of believers who worship the wrong gods, before worrying about what an atheist believes?
Let's be clear: they argue with the atheist to reassure THEMSELVES, because the atheist presents REAL challenges to the entire god concept - impossibilities and glaring contradictions they'd never considered until pointed out by the atheist, and that they then scramble to rationalize away... hence the religious apologist.
Put another way, they don't like it being pointed out that their invisible evidence-free gods are no more real than all the other gods they know full well never existed, and for exactly the same reasons.
In the face of other religions, they can just claim religious superiority, in the certainty that theirs are the REAL gods. Seeing the emptiness and meaningless of the god concept itself laid bare...that their gods really ARE no more believable than any others, their arguments are posed to the atheist in order to reassure and convince themselves.
