Seems like a lot of gun snobs like to crap on Keltec. But in reality, they're one of the few gun companies that listen to exactly what their customers say and then follow the instructions given by the market...
I'm not a gun snob and I have a Gen 1 sub 2000.
It's a fun range toy but I wouldn't grab it to protect myself.
Plastic feed ramp.
Slightly overtightening the frame screws induces trigger reset issues.
Springs from a Nerf gun.
Bolt tube seems to be made out of pot metal and can be deformed by squeezing with your hand.
That janky front sight.
They’re also one of the only companies that consistently innovates while still keeping their products at an affordable price point. Their QC may be a bit hit or miss, but they certainly think outside the box. Way, way outside the box. In fact, they probably burned the box with a flamethrower and moved across the country to get away from the ashes of that box.
Very innovative company too bad their qc sucks.

@@leadfarmer5563 True enough, OTOH...there still plenty of Gen 1 & 2 SUB2000's out there waiting for an upgrade. They're not screwed yet, and if they think fast enough, they can consider ways to buff the Gen 3's.
There's _always_ room for improvement...as KelTec has just shown.

They were over priced anyways $150 for a mount plus another 200 for good optics.. they took advantage and priced it insanely. I just waited for the gen 3 now I got both.

Yeah problem is they made them weigh over a decade when there was already an aftermarket solution that had been proven
but they haven’t made the 10mm yet, which is what we REALLY want...
Unfortunately they are well behind the curve. I originally saw one of these prototyped a few years back at a shot show. Should have been released the next year. This was released after the M&P FPC which was the first to allow for side folding to retain optics.
Better trigger, can mount an optic easily, and the charging handle is now left hand friendly! I'm on board.

They knocked it out of the park with this new generation. Im interested to see how well that rotating forend holds zero because the keltec CQB sub rotating rail was a bad design.
The optic is locked to the barrel. Should hold zero. The issue is where it pivots will stay locked in place.

People have been having problems with the suppressed version holding zero and being inaccurate because of the mechanism used to allow rotation.

Way to go Kel-Tec!! Can't wait to get my hands on one, probably will be hard to get though.
If KelTek was a genie and granted me 3 wish I can have on the Sub-2000, they will be:
1) Bolt locks open on last shot.
2) Chambering for the 45 ACP and 45 ACP +P.
3) Use Glock 21 magazine and comes with an adapter allowing the use of M1911 magazine.
Can we get the outro song credit? Sounded super intense.

I picked up the new Gen 3 with the G19 handle, for $420 at my LGS. Its a nice improvement over the prior gen.

I just went down to my local FFL and ordered one. Cost basically $450 and some change. I've been doing research on this firearm and I have shot gen 2 and loved it. What I've seen in researching this firearm pretty much made my mind up to go out a get one. Can't wait to get it and do some plinking with it.

I always kept my sub2000 optic free to maximize stowability- this is a nice improvement, but there’s no free lunch here- you still have the optic thickening the profile in your backpack compartment

Very nice upgrades. Would like to see a direct comparison of this vs an Extar 9mm
I have both and they're both great guns. I would get the sub2000 if I was making a decision on one or the other just because the sub2000 is more concealable. If you just want a fun gun for the range the extar is way better because it takes AR-15 triggers/grips and has last round bolt hold open.
@@PewLandand don't forget that with the Sub 2000 you don't have the ATF "SBR/stock" BS to worry about.
@@OOICU812 good point. It also has a more direct recoil impulse than the extar. The extar has a strange recoil impulse that feels slow and heavy and you can really feel the bolt come forward and drop the muzzle whereas the sub2000 is more snappy when the bolt comes to the rear but stays on target better when the bolt goes back into battery. It's hard to explain unless you've shot both back to back. I'm sure this is due to a much heavier bolt in the extar compared to the sub2k.

I'm definitely appreciative of the upgrades, but I can't do a pcc without something more than 9mm. 10mm is actually potent and if you're already carrying a long gun give me at least 10mm. I get ammo prices etc too, but for actual purpose carry I want something with some thump.

They used to have a model that took beretta mags, i wish they still offered that but at least aftermarket glock mags are cheap.

This is awsome from keltec that fixed like 90% of the issues assuming this rotating hand guard can hold zero. Now if they could do a rdb 2.0 with a dust cover, factory flared magwell, better bolt release, and a handguard rhat doesnt cause vertical stringing.
Considering that the rail is on the barrel and not the receiver, they would have to fuck something up pretty bad for it not to hold zero.
I’d love if they make one in 5.7

they made a mistake deleting the front sight and I want to know if the folding mechanism locking surface is still plastic.

I ain’t no snob. I love that Keltec takes their customers seriously. I may just pick one up.. on top of the obvious, a new trigger, cleaner charging handle… gonna give it a shot.

Should have been on a pivoted cam that went in one dedicated rotated directions. Set up like this way it could knock on your optic and damage it or screw up zero.
Shame that twist didnt bring the mounted optics in closer, instead of out at an angle, making it kinda boxier
I always wanted a sub2000 but the horrible iron sights and lack of ability to properly mount an optic has made me stay clear of it, but now i think this is a worthy first PCC for me!

On one hand would love too see a 10mm varient one day. Given its one of best common hangun calibers for a longer barrel ppc format. But then also knowing its keltec maybe not. Love the guys but given their qc maybe 9 is fine

Still feel like the S&W side-folding is the way to go; I purchased both, kept the FPC and sold the S2K.

It would be really expensive, thats why they changed to the polymer.
It would be awesome to have a premium line of keltec firearms where you can pay extra to get the same Innovative designs but with duty grade quality.

Sub 9 also has LRBHO which the Sub 2000 does not (at least my Gen 1 does not)

i bought the sw fpc when it first came out i wish i would have waited an bought this because of glock mags are cheaper but sw did come with 3 mags but still there like 50 bucks a pop
