The PSA X5.7 PDW Concept

- Palmetto State Armory came out swinging this year at SHOT Show with a ton of prototype and concept guns. @Hoplopfheil stopped by to take a look at the most talked about concept so far: the X5.7 PDW. The X5.7 is chambered in 5.7x28mm like PSA's own Rock pistol, and uses the same magazines. Some aspects of the X5.7 are still being refined, but it will have a spring loaded pistol brace, and take standard AR charging handles.

A $1K MP7-ish gun is beyond neat. Very cool stuff coming from PSA
Everyone come with a low number and once it's out its $2500
Psa doesnt do shit like that @@disaar3679
@@disaar3679, that’s not something PSA has a history of doing, though. The price may go up or down a bit, but they’re generally pretty dang close to their target price.
@@disaar3679 even if so there is nothing like it that you can get on the market…
@disaar3679 that's what the big name companies do. PSA is known for sticking close to their estimates. R&D is their biggest expense but like he said, half the gun was already made. The Ruger LC carbine starts at $1,100 and I much prefer the MP7 clone style over the Ruger.
PSA and Strike Industries looked at all the unlicensed "not-quite" guns from MW2 and were like, "Oh shit! Let's do that!"
look up the ST Kinetics CPW, its basically a clone of this.

That’s cause he’s lost and doesn’t know where he is or what to do.
That’s the founder of PSA
Whoa, this will blow Keltec away for a poor man’s MP7.
Most likely, but I still give them mad props for successfully wrapping a fat pistol around the P90 magazine. Hard to beat that capacity for a gun with no long magazine hanging out the bottom. If it had a better brace setup I would already have one.
@@herbderbler1585especially re: aesthetics, I think that comment may have had the CP33 in mind
@@flanaganwaldherr6956 ah, I see. Yeah, in that case this is definitely a better MP7 substitute, for looks and caliber. 22mag is nice, but it's definitely not 5.7. I don't know how 4.6 stacks up but I'd imagine it's more powerful too.
@@herbderbler1585the cp33 is a .22lr. The CMR is a .22mag. The cp33 is like. Micro poor man’s mp7, the cmr30 is just the poor man’s mp7. Also, if you look at ballistic comparisons between .22mag and 5.7, the only thing 5.7 does better is the fact it’s center fire. Otherwise, ballistically speaking, the .22mag does just as good depending on the ammo and does it for 5x less money.

Well I’ve gotta give PSA props for at least entertaining it’s consumers’ ideas and not just showing up with the same bullshit year after year.
They have done more in the past few years in terms of innovation than most have done in decades.
They want to make firearms affordable for the masses. Love it.
i love my PSA AR. It was cheap, and i can shoot it just as straight as an AR twice the price.

Out of everything I’ve seen at shotshow I want this the most…
I liked the 308 Jakl, 9mm Jakl, 10mm dagger & 45 ACP full size dagger concepts more 🤷🏻♂️ but that thing (5.7) & the VUK are my runners up.. I don't care much for 5.7 though
@@joeyphillips1181 I love psa stepping into the 10mm and 45. I’m honestly probably gonna buy em both. But I can get something like all those things already from other companies. HK makes everything impossible so The mp7 market has been wanted for a long time. Even if it’s a rip off. And 5.7 may not be the best but it makes more sense than what the actual mp7 is chambered in so I’m cool with it 😂.
Really? More than the actual mp7? More than the FNC? More than a sub 1k G3?
This will be one of the few instant buys for me. I love 5.7 and I want this. I just REALLY hope the trigger is average or above. Also, Hop is a monster.
If the trigger feels similar to the PSA Rock it’s based off of, it’s pretty good.
From what I’ve heard it uses a rock lower, so if you have a rock pistol it’s that trigger.
This is lookin like my FN 5.7 is getting an in-law instead of a sister xd
The PSA Rock trigger is great
Hope we get a binary trigger too! Instant buy!
His name is Hop but he doesn’t ever need to jump.
That's a 5.7 I could actually be interested in. I still think it's basically a range toy, but it looks like a more fun range toy than a standard 5.7 pistol.
You need to try the S&W 5.7. It shoots almost like a .22 - the lack of recoil is almost unbelievable. They have some kind of rotating barrel delay system I don’t completely understand but it works like magic. And it holds 22 rounds in a normal full size pistol without any extended magazines.
FN 5.7 is super fun shooter easily hit shots at 100m
I'm definitely interested in this for a bag carry or something, looks fantastic
It’s only a range you if you keep it in a safe ! If it’s beside your bed it’s home defense, depends on how u look at it lmfao , either way I can’t wait to own it
@@THEWILLYEFFECT isnt 5.7 like the last bullet you want next to your bed?
If the FRT trigger case goes our way, you guys should build a three position safety into them from the start.
That will sell lots of PSA 5.7 ammo.

wouldn't work. nice idea, wouldnt work. there's a few ar 5.7 platform offerings that could allow for it. this is a striker fired pistol, best you could get out of it is binary, and that would take a proprietary non existing design that no company has the incentive to make.

zokhrozzwoomzy- Overpriced, out of stock, unreliable, in a more expensive obscure caliber.
@@gifthorse3675 Not overpriced. Reasonably priced compared to what a post sample costs. Obscure caliber? No shit, what's your argument? 4.6x30 is what the mp7 is originally in. Out of stock because it isn't in stock yet? How do you know it's unreliable, post a video of your sample size of 1 failing, oh wait... Cope.
@gifthorse3675 5.7x28 is a NATO cartridge. It's not obscure, but it does cost a little bit more than other calibers that have been around for nearly 5x as long if not longer.
I think it would have been better in 22tcm/22tcm9r but Armscor hasn't and probably won't license it out to other manufacturers. 22tcm fits your definition of obscure caliber much more than 5.7 will ever be going forward. It also costs about the same as 5.7x28....unlike 4.6
1K is a mid range price for a lot of guns. PSA (to my knowledge) hasn't breeched the 2K mark like many other manufacturers have.
Unreliable? Bro.... the gun hasn't even come out yet, let alone has finished the process of full scale manufacturing. Some things might and probably will be changed from this prototype. It's good to be skeptical, but you aren't even giving it a chance.
With that mindset, we'd all be using m14s because the AR15 is overpriced, and chambered in an obscure caliber.....at THAT time. Even at THAT time .223 didn't have an official NATO designation established when the AR15 was in its own developmental stage.
I think, and i'm guessing i'm not alone on this, the PSA X5.7 PDW is the most exciting thing announced at shot by a landslide. We're all just trying to live out out Brass Facts get home bag larp fantasies without paying 2k for a TP9
Most exciting thing by far is Tommy builts mp7
I Have the Rock it is hand down one of my favorite weapons and i have way more then i should have….ask the wifey.
Pretty sure most exciting thing is the Beretta 92 GTS. It is a 92XI, but with a frame-mounted decocker instead of a frame-mounted safety. Talk about innovation. And also Diamondback's $770 snubnose...
@@christiankuny858 i've heard some nightmares about Tommy builts. Also idk where i can get any 4.6, but 5.7 is everywhere these days. They could make this thing in 9mm i wouldn't mind, infact i hope they do, I just want a pdw in that under 15inch total length category that doesn't have a 2-4k barrier or availability issues.
I liked the 308 Jakl, 9mm Jakl, 10mm dagger & 45 ACP full size dagger concepts more 🤷🏻♂️ but that thing (5.7) & the VUK are my runners up.. I don't care much for 5.7 though
This in 9mm with the dagger grip accepting Glock mags etc would be sweet as well
I just want more guns in that Uzi/ MP7 form factor with the mags in the grip. Just cool looking, don't care if they suck (looking at you, MP9).
YOU GUYS ARE ALREADY WORKING ONA BINARY? My desire for this already was high, now it's over 9000.
the only downside I can see with this thing is the fact that it uses the recoil system from the Rock, which is itself a clone of the delayed blowback / recoil system of the FN Five Seven. As the MP9 and a bunch of pistol chassis have proven, you really don't want a reciprocating barrel in your PDW. The MP7 intentionally used/uses a gas system to solve this.
That's an interesting point. I would definitely prefer a fixed barrel in a system that doesn't have an optic mounted to the slide/barrel assembly.
Where did you read that it’s going to have a moving barrel as part of its cycling function? I’d have thought the x57 would have a free floating barrel and delayed blowback like every other ppc/pdw
@@LL-my5rl PSA themselves have said multiple times that the X5.7 PDW will use the same operating principles as the Rock pistol. The Rock has a reciprocating barrel that temporarily locks into its slide via a spring-loaded cam in the frame, right in front of the trigger. It’s a “short recoil” system. This is basically the same as how a Beretta 92 works, and without it, the slide would have to be a lot heavier for the gun to operate safely. This design is a functional clone of that of the FN Five Seven. Ruger cloned it as well in their Ruger-5.7. I guess it’s possible that PSA’s X5.7 will just be straight blowback, which would mean a fixed barrel, but that’d also mean more recoil. And I feel like they would have explicitly said “straight blowback” to at least *one* interviewer if this was true.
IMO they should have gone with roller/lever/gas-delayed blowback, or a short-stroke piston like that of the MP7.
@@124thDragoon The 4.6mm ammunition used in the MP7 has a higher chamber pressure.
I remember the MP7 bolt being more like an AR15.
I’d really like to see this with a little longer barrel and foregrip. Two inches would seem to make it more versatile as a truck gun.
I love a company that makes their products here,in the USA,sometimes they suck but the company, like PSA,continues to improve and listen to the customer.
Thank you Hop for asking the dirty question we wondered, is there a rock 57 hiding in that chassis
It is, it's not an mp7 in any way
@@johnadams673it’s not an MP7, but it’s also not a pistol chassis.
@praharin not in the sense that you can disassemble it and have a full pistol laying there but it 100% just the pistol mechanisms and parts in their, maybe not a full slide but it's the same action as the pistol
I've seen a bunch of clips for this already.

PSA is love
PSA is life
Just hope they make the molds as close to mp7 design exact as possible. Less than a 1/3 of the price as the Tommy built is tempting. Thank you PSA.
I do get why Tommy Built is charging the premium. The amount of money, time, and resources they put in to picking up where HK and governments quit on the project is staggering. The parts are difficult to secure and keeping the gun compliant with the government isn't easy.
This is my favorite gun I've seen come out of ShotShow 2024 so far
This is why I keep supporting psa. They always look out for their customers. Making absolutely sweet products for us to enjoy.
This might be one of the best “bug out kit” combos when included with the 5.7 pistol. Especially sharing mags.
The capacity and the short-medium range given recoil and just perfect. If stuff goes down, you'll find a Glock whenever you want it anyway. And 5.7 prices have dropped
@@NY-rg3gytotally agree!!!
This finally gave me a reason to get a 5.7
Hop is an absolute unit 😳
Great stuff from PSA. They are innovative, are relatable to the average person and they make reasonably priced products that many people want. Hearing that they are looking for some young engineers and others sounds very interesting. PSA sounds like a great place to be associated with. They're better than the old business concept of turning out similar products with a slight change every couple of years.
I hope their "higher up" positions are better than their retail stores. Know several people who have worked for them locally - and apparently they're terrible stores to work for. They seem to have really high turnover rates.
It's an absolute piece of beauty. Glad to hear it's being made, had already put my vote in for it.
Meanwhile I'm curious if anyone is gonna try to cover the MP9. Honestly something like this in 9mm just makes more sense for me as the prices have to be insane ammo wise so quickly.
The only problem is that the mp9 is $2000
@@matthewlea5027and it comes with a crappy trigger and 45$ mags
@@matthewlea5027 which is why I'm saying I'm surprised no-one is trying to get in that market. It's like... Right there.
I would wager that PSA will have a version in 9mm that takes Glock mags within a couple years of whenever this gets released. If/when they do, it’s probably 99% likely that I’ll get one.
I like a lot about this, and I get why they went with 5.7 to start, but I myself just don’t care to jump into another caliber that’s as pricey and tricky to source as 5.7, along with a new set of magazines. Not for something that (for me) is gonna be limited to a fun range toy.
But I’m definitely telling a friend who owns a PSA Rock that they need to get this.
@@hkfifty871 tbh I'd be down for that. Though honestly I kinda want a design that doesn't look like it's trying to be an MP7, I'd rather have something unique. I have wondered if someone could scale down some of the huge Glock Mag Carbines.

Yeah, I'm absolutely getting one when available. I've long wanted a FN P90, but that's not going to happen. By the time I purchase a PS90, apply for a SBR, install the proper length barrel... I'd likely would have spent 3x what the X5.7 will cost. I hope it has a comparable capacity (when some extended mag option) as the P90/PS90 50-round mag.
i believe the extended mag they have shown there holds 40, so not quite the same, but pretty close
@@mmorin92 Sweet! Thanks for that info. 👍

This looks sick and you have to hand it to PSA for coming out with innovative new stuff (now if we can just get the price of 5.7mm ammo down 😂). I also love his recruiting pitch at the end: “come join us to work on projects like these if you want to be part of a bright young engineering team like these guys and work in our great facilities,” etc. What a great attitude and outlook.

It’ll be $4000 after you get a stock or brace and SBR it plus the 4.6 ammo will burn a hole in your pocket like 5.7.
Unless you can put a FRT in it, its basically a V6 Mustang...
A V6 Mustang still rips if all of your other options are Civics
just get the ar 5.7 so you can use your mil spec lower. and put all your ar 15 compatible parts if you wanna run 5.7 with traditional AR. this is NOT for that. the binary is cool. but lets be real, it wont be long before they are able to put in a super safety on this which trumps the FRT all around. this will replace my backpack strap for sure. along with the new shorter rock.
A binary trigger is “close enough”for me.

Biggest thing holding back 5.7 is 5.7 itself. It's ballistics are severely overrated, sadly. If they made this in 9mm I'd be all over it.
@@thefamilybritI’m sure a 9mm variant would be in the works I like the idea of one feeding Glock mags. But the 5.7mm has a range and accuracy edge over the 9mm which for CQB is pretty good.
@@thefamilybrit You don't like 5.7 but you like 9mm? wat?
@@thefamilybrit I don't know if the ballistics are "overrated". People usually exclaim over the size/speed/rate of fire ratios for 5.7 ........ it's not that it's powerful, it's that it zips through soft armor and gives you 20+ rounds in something just a tad bigger than a full size pistol. So for argument's sake, this would be the #1 contender for CQB/urban warfare shtf blaster.

Honestly, I think the reason that PSA are putting the expected release date out over a year is because they want to see if the arm brace ban survives or not. If it dies, great! If not, the project pretty much dies as the gun just becomes a bulky Rock 5.7.
I haven't seen anyone bring it up in decades but an older ATF approved NFA hack was to have an unmounted stock on a .22 pistol held in place by the shooter's grip pressure.
