Hammers are completely normal. You telling me you don't have multiple car hammers with you whenever you're out? What if you need to remove some nails, or have faulty equipment that needs a little percussive maintenance?
I had a FiveseveN years ago. We bought the SS197 ammo from FN and it penetrated both sides of a soft Kevlar vest. It was a small hollow point round but it went straight through the vest. They stopped making the SS197 round, I would imagine because it was penetrating like that while it was designed to be a "civilian" round rather than the 190 armor piercing. I was full time law enforcement and still couldn't get my hands on the armor piercing rounds. You had to buy them through a department at that time, you couldn't have a letterhead to bring to the gun shop. It was a great pistol, I carried it as a secondary on SWAT. Almost no recoil and it barked some flames. I think the ammo now is toned down.
@@jaimeramos2644A Glock 19. Back then you had to buy most of your own stuff. They had a few UMP 45s and one ancient MP5SD. When I got in narcotics and did a lot of high risk search warrants I had an issued DPMS Panther with a 10 inch barrel and fun switch. I miss it...
@@user-nb8yt2il2rNo kidding? I couldn't find them anywhere. I thought they quietly stopped making them. I wish I would have never sold the pistol. At least the guy I sold it to had the PS-90 so it made a nice pair.
also keep in mind : FNH/FN America's contract with most companies has resulted in a purposed reduction in velocity to reduce the performance of 5.7x28 ammunition (probably at the fbi's request). speer gold dot being one of the worst... aac's velocity seems to be one of the best. but the projectile performance isnt quite there yet. of course, if you get your hands on older ammunition or private loads, you will see how the 5.7x28 USE to perform...
Yep. 5.7mm Gold Dot produces some of the worst ballistics compared to most other 5.7mm brands. Guntreviews has a side by side of Gold Dot vs SS197 with the SS197 penetrating 2" further and producing a significantly larger wound channel despite costing roughly 1/3 that of Gold Dot.
As someone who has been shot by both 9mm and 5.7 and lived I can attest to them both making for a shitty recovery time. I can't tell you too much about this first incident but I can tell you for whatever reason the 9mm was a numb airy feeling hit with like the kind of pain you get from a firecracker going off in your hand or a hard smack from someone (mixed with adrenaline)...until I got to ER then the pain was def showing itself (hit once in the upper quad on right leg). The time I was hit by a 5.7 in the shoulder I will never forget. I was schobberknock drunk walking home from the bars in downtown Indianapolis (Broadripple) at about 2:30am when I was hit by a 5.7 round smack in my right shoulder right through my leather jacket intended for someone else in a drive by as I was walking thru the worst shady alley I could have picked just to get back to my apartment faster. The pain I felt from that MF was searing hot and super intense. It felt like what I imagine having a red hot stick of rebar slammed into your shoulder. I remember initially grabbing at it fumbling to make the pain stop like when you do when you burn the hell out of yourself to no avail. I actually ran myself to the police station a few streets away to get help. The 5.7 wound bled out more as well idk why but unlike the 9mm it went all the way thru my muscle and shoulder bone and out the other side. What sucked more? That's hard to say but what hurt more was the 5.7 without a doubt.
I tested both pistol and carbine back in 2000 for my department ,what you need is the black tip “AP” round. It went through a ballistic vest with no problem
Right, of course the AP ammunition is going to penetrate more than the standard round. Same exact thing could be said about 10mm Auto: get the .10AP and you'll punch through a bulletproof vest no problem. The video makes it very clear that the lack of any significant or noticeable damage from the 5.7 impact is very concerning for anyone carrying 5.7 in public.
@@ShadowLancer128 elite ammo s4 goes straight through level 3a at 2400 fps from a 5 inch barrel vs this at 1700 fps. The temporary cavity between 700 fps is quite literally pistol vs rifle.
Despite this performance, I still wouldn't mind a Part 2 where you try shooting the 5.7 at various kinds of armor and maybe even different types of cover, and compare it to some other calibers.
@@Romanus- I've tested a fair amount of it, and sadly have lost confidence in factory loads. I post the videos of results I've had. Big companies are nerf'ing it and the boutique sellers have been inconsistent...so I'm working on coming up with my own loads. Lots of options in that regard. I currently carry the 2020 Speer Gold Dot (after crimping them all). That round did perfectly in my gel test. It used to have cycling issues however, in the PS90 feeding system. ...but if I had to buy new factory ammo and they have their act straightened out I'd be using the Vanguard 36 gr GPM, and/or the R&R; either the 30 gr (Cutting Edge Raptor bullets) and/or the 37 gr X (Maker bullet). I saw a post on X from S&W about 5.7 pistols this morning and realized I don't know anything about 5.7 pistols. So I went to CZcams and punched in 5.7 pistols and this was the first video. I knew I would get the straight dope here. Been following for so long and have received so much valuable insight from plate carriers to movement to contact. Once again great video, informative and entertaining. It's like being back in the army where "shooting the shit" with old school NCOs turns into some great "hip pocket " training.
Met some BELSOF guys a few years ago. They said the 5.7 pistols were great if youre shooting someone 100m away and they're wearing armor, but it just whipped through people in the GWOT. The ammo was hard to come by and they couldn't "borrow" from anyone else. They missed their Browning HP. The "bloop" at the 13:32 mark was hilarious.
It's my service pistol as well and I confirm this. It's great for "long range" for a pistol. 50m distance is really easy. The accuracy is stunning but if you have smaller hands it is also not that to grip
I mean it wasn’t really designed for a handgun in the first place. The p90 in full auto was a really controllable bullet hose that had a deep magazine. Dump 10-15 rounds that zip through someone in a quick burst and they’re not getting back up. They just happened to make a compatible handgun so that you could have ammo commonality between PDW and a handgun. Carry more of the same Ammo since it’s small and light.
@@inferninx It's the story that everybody should know by now unless they're new to firearms in general. The P90, though awkward for many, would still be really easy to use for military personnel that qualify once with a service rifle and pretty much never use one again in their entire career. The sort of thing you can give to such people or have within easy access for such people who are in or near combat zones where the proverbial shit could potentially and unexpected hit the fan. With the common example being oh shit there's russians parachuting into this camp that is a hundred miles or more behind any front line combat zone. Not necessarily a bad concept, but realistically one that introduces a platform which has very little practical or effective value for combat personnel and one which introduces unnecessary logistical requirements. Pistols and pistol caliber platforms really don't make much sense in the grand scheme of things. Everybody would be better off if the various institutions adopted more rigorous training and skills maintenance regimes. Take all those people that are enlisted, but for all intents and purposes, non-combatants and make them attain and maintain real proficiency with the existing platforms.
I have only seen one comment about the atrocity committed by a P.O.S. at Ft. Hood on Nov. 20, 2009. I pray we have not forgotten those fallen and wounded. The weapon was the FN Five-Seven loaded with civilian FNH SS197SR 40 gr. V-MAX cartridge. Of the 13 killed, 6 were shot in the chest (with 4 likely as they were charging the shooter), 1 in abdomen, 1 to the head, and 1 with no description of wound. Of the 30 wounded, 5 were shot in the back (2 twice), 2 were shot in chest and back. All shots taken at self-defense distances. Essentially all shots to the chest (i.e., center mass/thoracic cavity) were fatal. I think that speaks very well of the round's capability and when you take into account the extremely low recoil and extra round capacity, it may be a better option than 9mm. The 5.7x28 doesn't make impressive entry and exit wounds, but the right round does significant internal damage. Out of the PS-90, that performance can extend to 150-200 yards.
It been a long time since I read about that shooting. But didn't he use 2 guns the 5.7x28 and a 357 mag? And of the people that died most were shot with the 357 not the 5.7x28?
@@tbjtbj4786 First, compare the two weapons: 1) "Older" .357 magnum revolver: I cannot find anything about which model, but let's assume 6-round cylinder, significant recoil, slow & frequent reload required. 2) FN Five-seven: Fed from 20-round magazine, very light, controllable recoil, fast follow-up shots, fast reload; according to gun store employees that assisted in the purchase it was chosen because it had one of the highest magazine capacities. Inside the building, 146 rounds were fired, 60% finding their target. Outside another 68 rounds fired with 40% hit ratio. 214 total rounds fired killing 13 (plus an unborn child) and wounding 32. No indications the .357 was fired. The P.O.S. was hit 5 times by 9mm and though paralyzed from neck down, survived. Here is a link to an excellent source on the incident, even keeping the source/website in perspective: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Fort_Hood_shooting Make you own determination and choices, but if there was a 5.7x28 small enough to carry concealed, I would be packing it. If it gets to where I will be continually wearing some big iron on my hip, it will be the S&W M&P 5.7: 22-round magazine, almost no recoil, and a round that (in my opinion) has more than proven itself.
The funny thing is that the 4.7×28 is the civilian variant and the military is using 4.6×30 and that is a big change in performance. We tested it once in the Army
The round was designed to defeat a kevlar helmet at 100 yds. A very specific use case, but yeah, without a tungsten penetrator cored bullet, and on an unarmored target, it isn't great compared to 9mm. Also, glad Charlie is back. Love how he is picking through the dead dummy and putting pieces in his pocket.
I own a Five seveN, actually the same exact model GT is using. I arrived at the conclusion based on my own testing years ago that 5.7, for civilians is really actually pretty pointless unless you got some SS190 penetrators laying around. You are better off going with 9mm to be honest and if you really want to pierce soft body armor theres better options for that. Like 7.62x25 tokarev. Theres a cool video of James Reeves seriously penetrating a level 3 plate with a Five seveN using SS190. That's plate is meant to stop 7.62x39 and it went through it. Pretty impressive, but since we cant get SS190... again it's pretty pointless for civilians I'm afraid.
Had a friend that got shot in Dallas by 5.7 definitely fucked him up all the same so ide say a bullets a bullet at the end of the day cause I promise you ain't taking a shot from it and walking around like it's a mosquito bite. Yes he didn't die but he said it hurt all the same.
As far as I know, the 5.7x28 round was in fact designed to defeat *old design* kevlar body armor that became standard issue to Russian infantry in 1989. Back then, the armor was *barely* enough to stop 9x19 and .45 ACP rounds. The US military primarily used MP5s chambered in 9x19mm for rear line and support troops. The main concern was that Russia could drop paratroopers behind NATO lines and the troops would be unable to stop them! Real scare there! Anyway, the 5.7 and P90 were designed as a PDW for rear line and support troops and could defeat old design kevlar armor used the the 1980s-1990s. Nowadays body armor has gotten much better and the 5.7x28 round is just obsolete.
@@corkbulb2895 You're mostly right but I have no clue where you got the idea that the US widely issued MP5s to rear echelon troops. That isn't true at all.

I’m no expert and I’ve never even shot a 5.7. But I’d assume it really shines in the P90 on full auto with the 50 round mags and armor piercing bullets. That’s what I think it was really designed for. SMG, up close and personal against armor. It would work very well there I believe.
Agreed. Brokeboys can also opt for a "switch " device on the 5.7 with a drum mag and a extended barrel I'm sure the hood will love that build. 🛑🛑JK🛑🛑 In all seriousness fedbois wouldn't like that at all please take this as a joke😂
Man your channel is great! I really like this comparison and the ballistic dummy. I agree with most of your point on 9mm and 5.7x28. They are both pistol rounds so both are a compromise from the get go. I only compare the 2 on their performance from a handgun because 5.56 SBR is a better option over a 5.7 or 9mm PCC. 5.7 will never do more damage than 9mm. 5.7 will always have a higher mag capacity, lower recoil, faster follow up shots, and better accuracy at further ranges. IMO it all comes down to the damage done and if 9mm does enough damage to justify using it even though 5.7 has the previously mentioned advantages. On the flip side for 5.7 to even be in the argument it has to do at least enough damage to be effective. I like the ammunition choices but there are many more 5.7 ammunition choices. Some that reach 2400 fps from a 5 inch barrel. Like elite ammunition’s 27 gr S4 using the same projectile as FN 198lf. Also elite ammunition also makes fragmenting and solid core penetrating rounds all loaded really hot. If a 5.7 handgun can deal even 2/3 the damage as a 9mm with any available load IMO with all the other added benefits it would take the cake. Right now I believe these loads can deal close to equal the damage as the best 9mm self defense loads. With the boom in 5.7 popularity I’d expect that within 10 years we get some 5.7 commercially available loads that match these specially loads. Then 5.7 will be considered better in a handgun for self defense
honestly many of the rounds already available have impressive paper performance, you dont really have to wait 10 years if you dont want to- but in 10 years theres definitely going to be interesting things going on

Yes but that is with actual AP ammo. I saw another channel a couple years back do a side by side with AP and standard 5.7. The AP 5.7 ripped through the soft armor. The standard however did worse then the 9mm and the 9mm with a solid round sailed right through the armor anyway. And keep in mind you basically CANT get the AP 5.7 anymore. You can buy the brass solids from pretty much any firearms store.

Great Content guys but I would personally love to see a vid with the s&w 5.7 I think it’s a better pistol
These guys did a wonderful presentation of comparison of different rounds, but the only problem I have with this is, they’ll say all that about the 57 round until you get shot with it
New to these videos. I want to point out that just because a round stops in the gel and doesn't blow everything apart is exactly the point. You want the bullet to stop in the target, so you're less worried about what's behind the target. You don't want a home defense weapon whose bullets exit the burglar and then your whole house.
It's a little insane the amount of "naa you can walk that off, it's a tiny hole" I don't think I'd be able to walk off any bullet to pretty much any part of me. Maybe I'm just not built from adamantium like these guys. I missed Charlie, such a funny guy!!
depends on if your adrenaline is going. also In 1899, a group of Moro tribesmen in the Philippines took umbrage toward a United States occupation force in the southern islands, thereby initiating what became known as the Moro Rebellion. The Moros were fierce fighters, with a reputation of resistance toward any outside rule. Officers in the U.S. force were armed with Colt Model 1892 revolvers chambered in .38 Long Colt, a cartridge that originated the blackpowder era. The load at the time featured a 150-grain lead round-nose bullet launched at 750 f.p.s. using smokeless powder. Muzzle energy was 201 ft.-lbs., about the same energy as a .380 ACP with a 90-grain bullet. The Moros were reputed to tie themselves up with strips of vegetation from the jungles to prevent excessive bleeding and ingested locally made drugs to block the pain from wounds. Engagements involving the Colt double-action Model 1892 often resulted in the officer being killed or severely wounded by these motivated Moro juramentados. This prompted the War Department to launch the Thompson-LaGarde Tests of 1904. As expected, the rather grisly tests showed the .38 Long Colt significantly lacking in the power needed to stop a determined assailant.
Emt in Indianapolis here. Saw a man shot 3 times in the chest with 5.7 (pretty nice grouping too) and all 3 zipped right through him. Made a full recovery.
really sucks he didnt use more powerful rounds from elite ammunition or vanguard. 2200-2400 FPS from the 4.75 inch barrel. all the common rounds are pretty anemic
The FN firearms chambered in 5.7X28 were primarily designed around the SS-190 ammo. Designed specifically to penetrate SBA. So standard pistol cartridges will be better for EDC.
On one hand you can buy 3A SBA for dirt cheap these days, some as low as $45/panel so SBA is far more common. On the other hands Mr. Guns N Gear tested that $45 armor panel and it stopped EVERY pistol and shotgun round sent at it including commercially available 5.7mm. It even “stopped” (technically) a .500S&W and .460 although it dragged the armor into the target. The 5.7 armor piercing isn’t really available to us, however the 5.7 has some other really nice attributes that have come up in Paul Harrel videos.
Standard 5.7 defensive ammo is made specifically to do well at penetration and causing damage. So use defensive expanding ammo for defensive purposes. Unless of course, the criminals wear body armor in your locale.
I thought the whole point of this round was that it was better than 9mm at penetrating armor, and the low recoil meant it was great in sub-machineguns. Figured you'd try it against some kevlar or plates.
because it is ... level 3A armor that can stop 9mm and the point was to give rear echelon, vehicle crews and officers small package fully automatic "personal deffense weapon" with low weight, high ammo capacity and good enough penetration to go through SOFT body armor. Noone ever expected it to be able to beat hard frontline armor
@@AsghaadI wouldn't even argue that was the main goal of the NATO trials, they were looking to standardize the sidearm as well as replace 9mm. The 5.7's role in PDWs was second to that.
@@Asghaad Yeah soft body armor like kevlar like I said. Just thought since it's going to be a video testing 5.7 that they might actually do a test through the p90 against armor and compare it to 9mm.
@@Assdafflabaff It was good for its role 15 years ago. nowadays people do not run any armor that would be penetrated by 5.7, so there is zero reason for it to be as popular as it is. if you want to pierce level 3a for some reason, just use AP 9mm like the russians have or run one of the many lightweight 9mm loadings that can pen the same armor. G9 defense, Liberty, and fort scott all make 70-90 grain loads that will pen 3a and be twice the weight of 5.7
The Russian 9mm AP is loaded extremely hot from what I heard and I doubt NATO would consider it for anything less than a SMG and rumor is that the ammo is really hammering the Vityaz SMGs hard.
So a few toobers have tried the pen rounds v armor .. on one test with a pistol not ps90 the only rounds that could pen 3a armor were ss190 and ss198lf ( green tip ss195lf with slightly more powder) could pen the 3a soft armor. Even normal fmj was doing well if i recall. But when it comes to rifle rated plates lvl 4 its not going through
well, most test i have seen on youtube always counts on the plate catching the bullets, i dunno if most care for a real test of the rest of the protection. As i dunno if this would take out "real" plates. By real i mean not just scrap metal plates. lol
What myth. It was advertised and feared for being penetrative against soft armor, which most concealed armor are. That was back when it become popular, though. Concealed armor these days could get pretty hefty. Even hard level III would shit on it.

love primary arms had a problem recently with take down pins from them and they cleared up the problem no questions asked seriously and you dont have to talk to a robot on the phone like some other companys love them
I'd love to see you guys test 5.7x28 against SafeLife Defense's Level IIIA+, which they CLAIM can stop newer SBA-piercing ammo including 5.7x28 out of an FN 5.7 pistol.
Several IIIA armor choices will stop 5.7 but many will not. I think one of the important considerations is how much energy is left for terminal performance after it makes it through. The 5.7 is in my opinion a good one for this if you can only carry a pistol but for armor, a rifle is definitely better. They are just a little hard to tuck into your holster.
Came across some of the older videos and subbed. I have been binge-watching and seen Mike go from hilarious in one episode to absolutely tanked and hilarious in another. The "Raw Milk" bit got more. Looking stacked!

If I remember correctly; 5.7 was designed, in the late 80’s, for the specific purpose of countering soviet bloc body armor of the time. More specifically the high penetration, armor piercing cartridge that hasn’t been produced or easily obtainable for the past 20-25 years.
The vids haven't been the same. The return of charlie makes it whole again. I love primary arms. I don't even put irons on my 3x microprism boomstick. I recommend them to everyone. Please don't muzzle Charlie
Speer neutered their Gold Dot in 5.7 x 28 after 2020. From ~1850 fps down to ~1730 fps and changed the tip (doesn't expand in clear gel w/pistol). I have video uploaded showing the difference to their ammo from 2020 to 2022. Others have been slowed down, too.
If you're going as low as 28-grain, why not go to .17 HMR? Sure, it's only 20 grain, but it's way faster than a 5.7, like 2350fps. The 17-grain is even faster at 2650fps, and those things expand/explode on impact. Based rimfire 😗👌🏻
@@mrkeogh The Speer Gold Dot is 40 gr, not 28. The 28 grain can be easily loaded to 2400 fps, which means your 20 grain @ 2350 is no comparison. (245 ft-lbs vs 358 ft-lbs). Just watched .17 thru chrono and it's (Norma ammo) 2700 fps from a rifle. That's 275 ft-lbs. That's less energy from a rifle, than a 5.7 x 28 using a pistol. Reasonable 5.7 loads should be 325 - 350 ft-lbs. So the same reason to not use .22 mag...because too weak and you said it yourself....rimfire.

I ended up doing some training with the 5.7 and the only reason we use it as NATO is because we also use the P90 and they share the same ammo so it's just easier that way but we do also train with the colt M1911.
Video idea…the “one caliber” challenge. You each get a rifle and pistol that fires the same round, so like Micah with the 5.7, Mike with the 9mm, Charlie with 45ACP, whatever. Then you compete in both close and distance shots. Looking for 1 caliber that can do “it all”
I think you're really going to struggle to find (non esoteric) calibres that perform well in both roles. Anything that's good in a pistol really isn't going to get much better with a rifle or carbine aside from a slight bump in muzzle velocity and the controllability a rifle gives you. Or you could just go mental and get a BFR chambered in 45-70 if you no longer like your wrists.
I recently added a 5.7 pistol with a red dot and a suppressor to my collection. I like it for a survival pistol for camping and hiking. It's nice when I want a bit more range but don't want to carry a rifle. A 5.7 pistol has similar capabilities as a 9mm or a .22 magnum rifle. The low recoil and lightweight ammo make it a good survival tool if you aren't expecting it to be magic.
Suprised i haven't seen this in any comments, 5.7 is similar to 10mm in the way that off the shelf ammo is usually not full power....All of those you tested are watered down "civilian" 5.7 loadings. Elite Ammo, Vanguard outfitters and 80 teeth all make full power 5.7x28 that smokes everything you showed. They are 3A armor piercing as well.
The Five-seveN was my favorite pistol in Counter-Strike 1.6 so that was the very first gun I bought when I came of age. I still have it to this day and I absolutely love it.
Same bought it cause of CS. I bought some of the exotic ammo 10 years ago when was alot alot cheaper. SS190, T6B, S4M. The regular ammo you find now days is super weak.
Anyone questioning the effectiveness of 5.7 should lookup the Fort Hood shooting from 2009. Shooter used the FiveseveN and most of the victims were incapacitated or killed with 1-3 rounds, where most hit center mass, whereas the shooter took 5 rounds of 9mm and survived.

Great you’re one of them. 9mm girlie. 9mm are so cheeks. I’d take a 5.7 over a 9mm all day.
I think the ammo now is toned down.

also keep in mind : FNH/FN America's contract with most companies has resulted in a purposed reduction in velocity to reduce the performance of 5.7x28 ammunition (probably at the fbi's request). speer gold dot being one of the worst... aac's velocity seems to be one of the best. but the projectile performance isnt quite there yet.
of course, if you get your hands on older ammunition or private loads, you will see how the 5.7x28 USE to perform...
And its performance is incredible.
So it received the 10mm treatment, but without the love?
Downloaded ammo is a plague.
Why reduce it ?

Hahah so good 13:28 better time stamp if you want to jump to and hear it
It's my service pistol as well and I confirm this. It's great for "long range" for a pistol. 50m distance is really easy. The accuracy is stunning but if you have smaller hands it is also not that to grip
What the shooting for?

@@tbjtbj4786 First, compare the two weapons:
1) "Older" .357 magnum revolver: I cannot find anything about which model, but let's assume 6-round cylinder, significant recoil, slow & frequent reload required.
Here is a link to an excellent source on the incident, even keeping the source/website in perspective: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Fort_Hood_shooting
Make you own determination and choices, but if there was a 5.7x28 small enough to carry concealed, I would be packing it. If it gets to where I will be continually wearing some big iron on my hip, it will be the S&W M&P 5.7: 22-round magazine, almost no recoil, and a round that (in my opinion) has more than proven itself.
Helpful video. Thanks guys.
I'd love to see MP7 vs P90 ballistic performance. They have very similar mythos associated with them.
I would say he would be hard pressed to get his hands on an MP7 but he got an AN-94 so....
mp7 is trash though.
Sorry it IS amazing in the videa games, but IRL its wonky trash.
they were both designed for exactly the same contract. its really interesting how it worked out.
I could never justify the price for one. It just felt insanely overpriced for a high pressure 22 magnum with a chonky plastic frame.@@slickdaddy3241

Then 5.7 will be considered better in a handgun for self defense
honestly many of the rounds already available have impressive paper performance, you dont really have to wait 10 years if you dont want to- but in 10 years theres definitely going to be interesting things going on

depends on if your adrenaline is going. also In 1899, a group of Moro tribesmen in the Philippines took umbrage toward a United States occupation force in the southern islands, thereby initiating what became known as the Moro Rebellion.
This is how and why the .45 acp was invented.

This is quality content thank you. I like this channel.
Emt in Indianapolis here. Saw a man shot 3 times in the chest with 5.7 (pretty nice grouping too) and all 3 zipped right through him. Made a full recovery.
How did you find out what round he was shot with?
An FN 5.7 was sitting on the back of the officers car, and the suspect was in custody on scene.
It's Indianapolis, we pretty much just announce what we use it's so common
Wonder what ammo was used.
I’m so glad Charlie is back. He really ties everything together. 😊
He is the pissed on rug to Micah's The Dude.

@@evanbohnAdmin is out of his element.
really sucks he didnt use more powerful rounds from elite ammunition or vanguard. 2200-2400 FPS from the 4.75 inch barrel. all the common rounds are pretty anemic
Love watching these videos in class
The FN firearms chambered in 5.7X28 were primarily designed around the SS-190 ammo. Designed specifically to penetrate SBA. So standard pistol cartridges will be better for EDC.
Unless your target has SBA
On one hand you can buy 3A SBA for dirt cheap these days, some as low as $45/panel so SBA is far more common.
On the other hands Mr. Guns N Gear tested that $45 armor panel and it stopped EVERY pistol and shotgun round sent at it including commercially available 5.7mm.
It even “stopped” (technically) a .500S&W and .460 although it dragged the armor into the target.
The 5.7 armor piercing isn’t really available to us, however the 5.7 has some other really nice attributes that have come up in Paul Harrel videos.
Even with increased magazine capacity, accuracy, and reduced recoil?
@@zacharycox2014 but what does it mean when you have minimal damage.
Figured you'd try it against some kevlar or plates.
because it is ... level 3A armor that can stop 9mm
and the point was to give rear echelon, vehicle crews and officers small package fully automatic "personal deffense weapon" with low weight, high ammo capacity and good enough penetration to go through SOFT body armor.
This is the second vid watching you. Already subscribed
Aww man I was looking forward to his different sdi definitions
I'd love to see the round vs armor. I feel like this is one of the glorified myths about this round, and should be touched on here.
But when it comes to rifle rated plates lvl 4 its not going through
@@nathancomalander4417 Yeah, I've seen some of those as well. The round is goofy but will keeeeell
well, most test i have seen on youtube always counts on the plate catching the bullets, i dunno if most care for a real test of the rest of the protection.
🤣
Garand Thumb: insults everyone about being unable to handle 9mm due to more recoil
ALSO Garand Thumb: immediately proceeds to be less accurate than desired due to self-professed increased recoil...
Priceless humor! ♥️
Never change, guys... 😊
9mm has recoil ? says the magnum revolver guy
love primary arms had a problem recently with take down pins from them and they cleared up the problem no questions asked seriously and you dont have to talk to a robot on the phone like some other companys love them
Lmao love you guys. Subscribing now!! 😂😂😂
It's great to see a firearms channel that is creatively entertaining while maintaining it's technical education roots. Learning a lot!
They are just a little hard to tuck into your holster.
can we just appreciate how valuable charlie is to this channel.. what a hoot
Came across some of the older videos and subbed. I have been binge-watching and seen Mike go from hilarious in one episode to absolutely tanked and hilarious in another. The "Raw Milk" bit got more. Looking stacked!
Carried a FN Five Seven as my duty backup for about 15 years. It was nice having a 20 round and 30 round mag and it was super light. I kept it in a closed pouch off hand side on my gun belt. That muzzle flash at night was insane.

Micah and Charlie are tremendous upgrades to this channel. I’m a long time fan of The Flannel Daddy - Shout Out to the OG Poop Squad - and Charlie and Micah are hilarious.
Nothing more hilarious then watching Mike’s reaction to Charlie’s off the wall comments. 😄
"You're such a buzzkill sometimes on these videos, dude.." 😂😂😂

If I remember correctly; 5.7 was designed, in the late 80’s, for the specific purpose of countering soviet bloc body armor of the time. More specifically the high penetration, armor piercing cartridge that hasn’t been produced or easily obtainable for the past 20-25 years.
It's also made to be able to shoot in full auto, not semi. Of course 9mm is going to do better if you shot one shot at a time. But full auto, no way.
The quality of these videos never cease to surprise me
The vids haven't been the same. The return of charlie makes it whole again. I love primary arms. I don't even put irons on my 3x microprism boomstick. I recommend them to everyone. Please don't muzzle Charlie
I didnt read microprism the first time lol
Speer neutered their Gold Dot in 5.7 x 28 after 2020. From ~1850 fps down to ~1730 fps and changed the tip (doesn't expand in clear gel w/pistol).
I have video uploaded showing the difference to their ammo from 2020 to 2022.
Others have been slowed down, too.
Fucking BS that everything got slowed down while getting more expensive. Most M193 lost 100fps too.
They sure know how to pinch those pennies huh?
If you're going as low as 28-grain, why not go to .17 HMR?
Sure, it's only 20 grain, but it's way faster than a 5.7, like 2350fps. The 17-grain is even faster at 2650fps, and those things expand/explode on impact.
Based rimfire 😗👌🏻
@@mrkeogh Would you rather have a semi auto 5" pistol in .17 instead of 5.7? It is rimmed and less powerfull. It makes no sense for this role.
Need more of these

Intersting how the round at 7:18 imparted enough kenetic energy that it actually broke the table through the gel.
thats pretty normal for ballistics gel on those tables. I dont think ive seen a round hitting the bottom of the gel fail to break the table yet.
On a different note: I love your profile pic (of Selvaria Bles). VC is my all-time favorite series.
hydrostatic pressure, it wasnt far from table, a very low shot. That wouldnt happen if it was a center gel shot.
@@douglassinclaire9968 its just regular force being applied due to the momentum of the block pushing against the table.
Hydrostatic means: the equilibrium of liquids and the pressure exerted by liquid at rest.
"the hydrostatic pressure of the cell", the pressure a cell contains when its just sitting there, compared to the outside pressure it exists within.
The gel block is not at rest, its moving rather violently.
I’d hope it was a plastic table 😂
Been awhile since I've watched a GT video...dude is getting jacked. Juice or what?
I ended up doing some training with the 5.7 and the only reason we use it as NATO is because we also use the P90 and they share the same ammo so it's just easier that way but we do also train with the colt M1911.
Video idea…the “one caliber” challenge. You each get a rifle and pistol that fires the same round, so like Micah with the 5.7, Mike with the 9mm, Charlie with 45ACP, whatever. Then you compete in both close and distance shots. Looking for 1 caliber that can do “it all”
Brandon could guest star with fifty cal pistol and the ak 50
They make .30-06 pistols, so I choose that caliber.
I think you're really going to struggle to find (non esoteric) calibres that perform well in both roles. Anything that's good in a pistol really isn't going to get much better with a rifle or carbine aside from a slight bump in muzzle velocity and the controllability a rifle gives you.
Or you could just go mental and get a BFR chambered in 45-70 if you no longer like your wrists.
as a ruger PCC main, I really like this idea.
Would like to see how the ballistics would be out of the 16inch barrel on the gel Torso
Good to s3e this one, was actually trying to figure out whether to buy a 9 or a 5.7. I guess I know which one now
Suprised i haven't seen this in any comments, 5.7 is similar to 10mm in the way that off the shelf ammo is usually not full power....All of those you tested are watered down "civilian" 5.7 loadings.
It causes a lot of bleeding, which equals death.
Charlies dad advice is actually spot on (other then working for mike specifically). Dont think about how hard dropping everything and leaving is, just think of how much better your life can be once you rebuild somewhere better. I gave up my entire life, career, family and friends to leave canada and move a few hours south. 2 years of having to live apart from my wife to get the life we wanted in the place we wanted was worth every second as much as it sucked at times. If your sick of where you live, JUST LEAVE.

This is TED Talk syndrome, so to speak. Those who succeeded tell their story. Those who didn't likely don't have the opportunity or motivation to share their story, also because few people want to hear it.
And usually there are also quite favorable conditions at play that push someone to make such steps.
Because how else can we explain the 'criminal neglect' of the awareness of how this world is in hardmode and every attempt to improve your situation comes with a huge risk of making it even worse instead?
@@Dowlphin You just explained risk vs reward. If you think the world is in hardmode now, what about the risk and hardships people went through before electricity, medicine, and your best bet at a better like was a 4 month boat ride followed by no support and harsh winters. You can either succumb to the fear of failure, or at least try.
Therein lies the weight and value of taking a risk for a better life. People who try will fail, but some will succeed. It's up to everyman to ensure that he is in the latter camp. Fortune favors the bold, and smiles on the righteous. If it were a guarantee, why would you deserve anymore than the people who are content enough to stay stagnant and not strive for a better life?
Besides the points above that can abide with every man's values and morals, if you are a Christian you have the distinct pleasure of having Jesus Christ on your side. 2 Timothy 1:7.
@@sincerelyme6928 You portray a rich buffet of folly.
1) Past times were not just missing the hardships of lowtech, but also the burdens of hightech. Technology is an externalized power trip that distracts us from our inner potential, also corrupting our understanding into redefining it as how well we work with that scheme.
2) Social darwinism, profoundly uncompassionate and thus disconnected from the really scary path - defying the eho trip of turning suffering into a game that is terrfied of the erroneously perceived prospect of there being no more problems to overcome that can inflate the egoic mind.
3) Righteousness is a low virtue, settled even below justice, which is a level that humankind is already struggling with severely. (Beyond justice then is kindness, and beyond that is integrity, and beyond that is the unfathomable way.)
4) Demonstrating utter corruption by daring to refer to Jesus in your selfish-chauvinist pursuit. You lack the humble meditative insight to interpret "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." properly, plus being a cherrypicking exercise since the Bible is a huge book full of varied angles to enrich our perception of the world.
