    Just wanna chime in here! I'm in Calgary alberta (3 hours South of Edmonton) and I get hit with DragonEye daily. DALA is being ran province wide in AB/BC - but I do get hit with an Ultralyte on occasion in Calgary. If you're anywhere in Canada, get AT LEAST 2 front heads. You won't regret it!

    The term LIDAR is an acronym for Light Detection and Ranging. The term lidar is used when referring to a speed measurement device that uses laser technology for speed, if people did not know.

    Thanks for taking the time to present all of this info!I am getting ready to purchase a set of ALPs along with Net Radar and the hifi module. Before I push the button, I would like your opinion on # of heads. I have a 2016 Challenger, and am wondering if you recommend 2 or 3 heads up front. I rarely ( maybe once a year) see a LEO on an onramp shooting from behind so am thinking one head in the back directly over the license plate. What do you think?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 7 lety

      One definitely is NOT a good idea, especially on a car that wide. It's better to do it right and not try to cut corners with this install. On the front, you could get by with 2, but I'd really recommend 3 for a car that wide. For more in depth information about how many heads you need, take a look at this guide: www.vortexradar.com/2016/01/alp-setup-guide-part-2-deciding-how-many-heads-you-need/

    Quick Question: I am in California. Laws says under 4 heads its "fix it" ticket. 4 and over is misdemeanor. I want to stay under 4 just for less risk of trouble. I drive e90 M3. Will one head in the middle in the back provide any worthy protection or should I just get 2 fronts and run with naked butt?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 7 lety +3

      Thanks so much!
      Now I'm not a lawyer or anything and this isn't legal advice by any means, but I've heard people talk about this and I can tell you that as long as you kill your jammers quickly after you're shot, you'll have no issue. People have been doing that for years with no issue.
      now that said, if you want to run fewer heads, one head will help in many situations but will obviously leave some holes in your level of protection. Fortunately in CA it looks like laser is almost exclusively in the front of vehicles. There are a few reports of rear laser shots, but they are very rare. Here's some reading on the subject: www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=51644&highlight=lidar+rear+california

    I have a nissan 350z. I'm planning on getting the ALP for my car. I wanted to know do you have the extension wire for your front sensors? I'm not sure if the sensors wires are long enough. I'm not going to get the rear right now due to they don't target the rear in H - town. (Houston) Thanks for all that you do for us.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 8 lety

      I've never heard of anyone needing them for the front. In my car I didn't even need them for the rear. The cables are 2.5m long which is often enough for some smaller vehicles. I'd imagine it'd be similar on your Z. There's a couple guys on RDF who've done installs on 350Z/370Z's and you could always check in with them too, but if you're not doing the rears either way, don't worry about it. :)

      Love your videos very informative and decided to look into laser protection too. As you said tho I don't see enough hits on my laser detector to make it a necessity at this point in time. I own a larger car and would need 5 laser heads for protection at this time it just don't pay for me to invest that kind of money for an occasional hit on laser. That being said $1500 is still a lot of cash for most people to invest when you already have upwards of $400-600 into a good radar detector for starters. Thanks for the reply.

      +mrelectron62 Yeah I totally get that. You also gotta factor in the time/cost of installation too.
      Try this.. run Waze with your RD. Unlike with radar, when an officer is shooting laser, they have to be stationary and so they're more likely to be marked on the app and you'll get warned before they shoot you. :)
      This isn't a true substitute for laser since it's less useful at night or if they're really hiding, it doesn't help if they just arrived and haven't been marked yet, etc., but give it a shot and see how that works for you first.

      mrelectron62 if you drive a pinto, just try to keep up. Save your money and upgrade your ride!
      For the rest of us, pay attention to these videos. Insurance companies love to increase your premiums based on your driving records.
      Why do folks like mrelectron62 even bother to troll these sites if they feel this tech is a waste of time and resources?

    You get more bang for your buck by just running a radar detector and Waze.
    Ka band radar is still popular.

    Lol I live in Alberta Canada and the only people that do rear laser is RCMP because they are ass holes and will probably pull you over regardless of if they get you speeding or can't get a reading so you are screwed either way 😂😂

      Another Albertan here, unfortunately this is not the case. Both Edmonton and Calgary will shoot rear, Sheriffs and RCMP will shoot rear especially on overpasses, and most photo laser vehicles in our municipality only shoot rear. Do agree with the asshole part though, common trend among LEOs...
