      Downshift instead. Works smoother, and unless you're 50 MPH over, 4 seconds will be plenty of time to smoothly decelerate. Even works on auto trans. and front-wheel drive. Unless your suspension is in really bad shape.. but if it is, maybe you shouldn't be driving fast enough to care about lasers.

      @johnross6314 Před 6 lety

      Yea, the RDF tests had flaws. noted in fine print deep inside Vortex website. And they are old tests. I am tired of the whining (with a sly smile) about Escort being “mean”, and the bickering at Escort. We just need actual correct tests. Which would show actual benefits and flaws in any systems. Too much “brand fab boy”, referral commissions handed out that skew tests and opinion talk (IMO)

      I will get my ZW5s installed and offer to be used in a comprehensive test, if the public reviewers have any interest. One will be on SUV, other on luxury sedan. I really like ALP from all the hoopla online. But, going full bore to get easy use and best performance runs the price and complex install way up (for my purposes).

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 6 lety

      Oh ZW5? I thought you meant ZR3. Yes I’ve tested the ZR5 in ShifterMax form several times (same performance as the ZW5) and have found them to be less effective than the ALP in terms of jamming capability. and this has zero to do with referral commissions. They’re still capable which is why I recommend them on my website. Good luck with your install.

    • @johnross6314
      @johnross6314 Před 6 lety

      Yea, my bad. Dyslexic moment. ZW5. You recommend them? Vague at best. Plus you hammered as “irresponsible” not having a auto disarm by time (for those you say are almost ignorant using them, do not know to hit the mute button). I agree the auto shut off by time can be effective. Primary my reasoning, any cop observing movement inside vehicle might see motion of hitting the mute button. Plus cockpit workload is less during that stressful time with auto shut off used exclusive. Nit sure it is “irresponsible” not having it for implied non knowledgeable users.
      Referrals.. that was general statement applying to all. If you have a interest, will send you any documented performance. I looked for a video of you testing laser countermeasures with ZW5 and ALP (say from starting speeds of 45 through 75mph) real world. Did I miss this in search? Certainly that would back up your viewpoint. You are very good at this. I want YOUR documented results, not someone else who had a car starting at

      Not that I'm aware of. They're running promotions on many of their products now to induce more sales. They're marketing more now lately as well. It's likely part of the fact that they are now owned by an investment company who's using them to turn a profit. They're less focused on engineering these days (look how long it's taking them to release promised updates for the Max2, Max360, or Max360c) and more on marketing and sales.

    • @johnross6314
      @johnross6314 Před 6 lety

      Ok, thanks for responding with your outlook. I may not go along with all of it, because it is based on conjecture (percentage of engineering to sales as one example, unless you know hard data on the reduction of engineering). A guess at best.
      I do get the negative social mood towards Escort by those most vocal online has stooped to a new low. Certainly some self inflicted wounds by Escort. However, I have examples where I have spoke with support, experienced great success. Enrolling, smart “engineer on the phone”, not some outsourced call center where they have a binder of standard responses, and block escalation of cases. In this case, the Windows version of the “Pro” update client from April was broken with a Windows update. It affected certain versions of W10 OS. When I experienced the problem, they took it serious, were authentic, already had heard from others yet wanted my detail, and stated commitment to recover it quick. Which they did.
      I am not a fanboy of them. I will do quick digress, speak from my background. When I was in late teens I did SCCA SOLO. Since I lived General area of Mike and Jim, I ran into them and one of their main engineers (Paul A. who became lead engineer for the upcoming Passport at that time). I got to know them. Eventually we each had our own eccentric 9C1 police Impalas we had fun running in same class as the F bodies of the time. We actually won events with these beasts. I cut my teeth in this ecosystem by going out at night and testing the original Escort with MR7s, later MPH K55s, Kustom KR series and so forth. Through my dads company, I was able to get a pre-shipment of the Escort copy cat made by Cobra to test. A Asia knock off of the original Escort. Was inferior. Assisted in some of the original street testing for the original Passport. I could go on.... When they sold, naturally kept some contact during the V1 early days. My life moved on in tech field, moved to adjacent state, left that orbit. Became a consumer only. Up until 2012 or so, a fanboy of V1. Then tried a Max against my fully updated at that time V1. Max blew it away raw range (my many varied experiences) and of course easy to use advanced features and Live. Since that time, kept up with last V1 exchange update (BSM), mostly used Max and 360, and added EX as experiment. Unlike yourself who does a great job, and others in the active community, I am just a experienced consumer. At your strong suggestion, I bought a R3. Thank you. A real diamond in the rough. Lots of potential behind its top range. If Uniden can keep their focus momentum, and get ahead of newer LEO jack boot traffic harassment tech, they will have long life. They need more integration/features (IMO) like Escort (and V1 API partners). From your smiles and comments, seems like Uniden gets their destiny. I look forward to that.
      In mean time, for now, not going ALP route. Up until now, never had active laser system (many years ago, some HAM developed powerful “anti collision” radar might have also lurked in proximity of close by LEO stuff. :) all for testing purposes on the unlicensed spectrum LEO uses too). Been able to avoid laser LEO hassle. In past year or so, realize need for better laser defense. We will see if the ZW5s do enough. Will not count on them.
      Oh, not laser related, Vortex. I am getting frustrated with local and sheriffs running some kind of wicked K band that is tuned almost on top of the various BSM ranges. I have caught them many times. I am not confused. I pulled up to one who had his going in parking lot. We talked. Yes, with a wry smile giving him away, they are nailing all kinds of defector folks with tickets. He knew why. I spoke with him through my window. Did not get close enough to catch the brand. He said he leaves his on almost all the time, because it did not matter to him. Either caused K band noise for RD users, or they were dark because they thought he was BSM. He laughed when I said I figured the game out. He said most never will. Point is, until past 6 months, around here, we could count on Ka being the weapon of choice. K only for the poor rural counties running referb K from eBay. I thought I would pass this on in case it has value.

    I would very much suggest not immediately killing your jammers after slamming on the brakes and scrubbing off 30 mph. The more correlation between you hitting the brakes and letting off and killing them, and then him getting a speed immediately, the more suspicious it is IMO. Roll on the brakes, and roll off to minimize chassis dive, then wait a half second, then kill them. The more disconnected the event of him obtaining a speed is from your deceleration, the less suspicious he’ll be of you running jammers, and the more likely he is to think that his gun choked. I.e. “if he was running jammers, he would have killed them immediately.”

    this is stupid, unless you like street racing why would you dump over a grand in detectors and jammers when your ticket probably wont exceed 250? most tickets i got were under 100 dollars.

    There is no damned reason to disarm unless illegal. Such a stupid point of view.

      So if an action is completely irresponsible, but not illegal, then it’s just fine. Gotcha.

      Messing with toys when you are already speeding to avoid them detecting you doing something perfectly legal. Yea so no reason. If they stop you record them and file a complant.

    If the jammer goes of that means the cop already has a lock on you so by the time you press the brake to slow down (2 seconds) and press the jammer button it's already too late.
