    Love the channel. Been running radar detectors for 29 years. Never got a speeding ticket. Three warnings total. Detectors absolutely save you from laser. You’ve got to pump the brakes quickly though. May be easier for me though because I live in the 14th biggest city in the US. Cops have to guess the speeding bogey.

    @David S: That's a great suggestion. I don't actually have any experience with alternative mounting solutions, but I have seen others post about them online. There's prebuilt solutions like the blendmount, custom homemade brackets, people have modified existing brackets to fit the Max, and I've even seen people wedge something between the Max and the stickycup to keep it from vibrating. I've never explored those options so you'll find the best information on the forums from people who have. :)

      VortexVortex because my only practical 12v plug in my car is in the glovebox, I had to put my detector in the bottom corner on the passenger side. Do you have any thoughts on how this could be negative for performance? Thanks

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 9 lety +2

      If you have to do that, make sure that it's pointed straight and not off to the side if it follows the curve of the windshield. Straight and level is the key.

    The only place you never mention is the visor Mount for the Valentine One, either passenger side or driver side. I hate using suction cups because they always fall off the windshield . I’ve been using my original valentine one for years on the passenger side because I use the driver side visor to block the Sun. My other problem I have is if I have the visor Mount on the right way. According to the picture on the valentine site, it looks like you slide the bracket from the window going towards the passenger. I’ve always done it the other way because it was easier to remove. Do you know what the right way to use the visor Mount? Thanks for the help in advance. Waiting on my gen 2. Giving my daughter my old valentine one

  • @cd9954
    @cd9954 Před 4 lety

    How high is too high? Mine is above the RVM and the windshield frits. There is a bit of plastic in front of the front right corner but mostly clear. The detectors rear antenna mostly is clear but the sun glass holder hangs pretty low so it may block it a bit.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 6 lety +2

      Rear laser detection from a RD is a gimmick, but yes, it will technically do better up high for that so it can see over your headrests. That said, it still won’t help save you from tickets. For that you need a laser jammer.

      The thing though with mounting high, is with laser, you might hinder your laser detection if the top of the windshield happens to have blue tint.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 8 lety

      Laser detection on a radar detector is virtually irrelevant in practice. You need laser jammers to help with laser.

      My brothers, Whistler C90 was mounted low in my truck when I borrowed it and on the highway we picked up a cop shooting laser at the 3 or 4 cars ahead of us which gave me time to slow down and kept me from getting a ticket. So It can sometimes save you from a laser when mounted like that depending on the circumstances.
      I just purchased a Beltronics STI Magnum with the latest software upgrade and they have changed the body to plastic which is even better because now there won't be any heat issues either.
      I have an F150 and will be hard wiring it so I'm trying to decide where to mount it, I'm thinking about going up in the middle just enough to clear the back headrests when they're folded down. If that appears to high I may keep it down a little lower.
      Love your videos and all the information you deliver, thanks.

    Awesome video, you've been a huge help since I've began looking into buying one. Two questions for you.
    1.) Radar Roy stated that gps enabled detectors work better low on the windshield because of the clear view to the sky. Is this true? I would like to mount it where you said you prefer it at but apprehensive due to that statement. I don't think it's a big deal but maybe you have insight on it. (I have a Toyota Solara coupe so it's a low car like yours.)
    2.) I have a remote starter installed in my car. The sensor for it is placed right above the rear view mirror on the glass. Can I simply use that cable for my radar detector instead? I don't know the details of the cable or remote start off the top of my head but if that's relevant I can find out.
    Sorry if this has been asked, I'm having a hard time sorting through the comments on mobile. Thanks in advance!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 7 lety +3

      1) It shouldn't be too big a deal. Try it. If there's issues, run it lower.
      2) I don't know the details about your remote start system. You want a source of 12v power when your car is on and 0v when your car turns off.

      For gps to work precisely you need a clear view of the sky to get signal from the most satilites possible. So they don't get better detection performance, however the GPS signal is degraded. All it means is the filtering location less accurate (like a 3ft difference)

If you want something in the more traditional range, it's an answer that people always ask and it's a question that I simply can't answer. It's the same reason I can't tell you what the best car is. I prefer the blendmount mirror mount for my 2018 accord touring 2.0T. Windshield mounts are unreliable, especially in the so cal summers. My car frequently reaches temperatures of 140 degrees, and the suction cup mounts succumb to the heat frequently. Blendmount does make it a little more visible, but that thing is never coming down. Also, with the new ez mag mounts from escort, it's impossible to mount the radar detector above the mirror as you are doing here, because you have to bend the radar detector upwards to mount it on the magnet. Anyways, i'm late the party here, lol.

    Do you have any tips on how to get the suction cups to stay high on the windshield?
    Do you think mounting it higher really makes a difference?
    Do you first attach your mount and then the V1 or do you slide in your V1 into the windshield mount and then place it on the windshield?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 9 lety

      Ryker Bowen Mounting it higher does seem to make a bit of a difference.
      When attaching the suction cups, don't put them on any black dots. Mount it straight on the glass. Wetting the cups can help them to stick too.
      I usually mount the suction cups and V1 as one package, that way I know exactly where the V1 will be. Once it's sorta in position, I'll often remove the V1 and press the mount firmly to get the suction cups to hold.

    What's that phone mount that you're using? I have a truck that currently has a carpeted dash cover, so I don't know that I'll be able to position my phone in the same place as you. I could probably mount the remote Concealed Display unit directly under the main instrument cluster bonnet, in line with the steering wheel. • @VortexRadar

      Well most windshields curve and so if you mount it by the A-pillar, it'll be pointing off at an angle instead of straight ahead. That's the main reason why you typically want it by the RVM. It'll be straight that way.

      Also what radar detector would you reccomend for me? I live in Southern California and do a loot of highway driving and also city driving in los angeles from time to time. I was leaning towards the beltronics sti, but was looking for a second opinion. My average speed on the highway is at least 80mph at a 65mph speed limit and usually go 50mp in the 30 zones in citys.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 8 lety +1

      Hey Bert, so if you're in CA, especially in LA, you can shut off K band which means you don't need some of the false alert filtering that people would need elsewhere. That really simplifies things. For that reason, the V1 is great if you want arrows or the Redline if you want maximum performance. If you want a remote installed detector, the Net Radar, Radenso HD+, and STi-R Plus would all work well. Take a look here for more info: www.vortexradar.com/buy-a-radar-detector/

    • @albertc613
      @albertc613 Před 8 lety

      so if i was looking at the redline the sti-rplus is also a great choice since they perform about the same right? Thank you so mich for your detailed responses it really means a lot and awesome videos aswell! I currently have a cobra and it has way too many false signals and the ka range dosent seem too well.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 8 lety +1

      Yeah they're actually the same platform in different packages. The Plus is like a remote Redline with GPS. There's some technical differences like a differently packaged low noise amplifier so the Redline may have a slight edge in performance, but really they're the same idea. Either one would treat you well.
      Something else to consider.. The Redline is a beast when it comes to performance. If you want a remote version, you're lucky in CA that you don't need K band so you don't need all the filtering options that the Plus adds. What you could do is instead of buying a whole Plus (which retails for like $1300), get just the antenna head and the connector to plug it into your ALP's and for right around the same price, you'll get some laser jammers plus the radar detector. You'll lose some of the filtering options that the Plus offers you like automatic GPS lockouts, but since you'll be turning that feature off anyways, you'll get much more for your money by going that route. Just an idea. :)

      Try out one of those magnetic phone mounts. You can get either a suction cup (windshield) or adhesive (dash). It's impossible to ever be in a situation where you won't get a ticket. The goal is to help lean the odds in your favor as much as possible. There's no bulletproof solution.

      Ah yeah, in that case you should get a Blendmount. You can hang it from your RVM so nothing is on the windshield, plus it looks very clean. bit.ly/1KvvFUr
