    My Uniden R3 died on me last month (powered on, but no alerts) ... therefore, I purchased the Escort Redline 360C just after they released their new firmware updates and I absolutely love it. Now... no more pesky false alerts from vehicle sensors - Escort has fixed that completely, at least from everywhere I drive to/from. The Ka band which is widely used in my state (NC) has great alerting from far away and ramps up nicely. As of now - Escort is now my number one detector again. I also have a Uniden R7, but it's resting in the closet for now as a backup 😃

      Someone stated that their redline is slower to pickup signals compared to his I wanna say r4 or r7. Would you say it’s reporting on time? And or at a decent range for you to slow down?

  • @blackspirtz1

    I have the uniden r8 and it's good, but excessive amounts of false alerts on k band even with band filtering on and highway app being used. Furthermore I will manually lock out a frequency and it'll just unlock or forget the lockout almost immediately.
    All in this was an amazing project of information. Thank you.

      @aaromon43 Před měsícem

      i filter everything except Ka on my V1, the other bands are just full of garbage and most troopers are only using Ka & Laser/Lidar (here in NY anyway), and if the laser alert goes off you're already had. next car i'll install jamming tech, there's just no point doing all the wiring on an older vehicle.

    Wish I had seen the survey on RDF. For an enthusiast like myself, I’ve had numerous Escorts (8500, 9500, SmartRadar, DualPro, Redline OG, Redline 360c) and all were solid except the RL360c. That just required an OLED replacement due to burn in, and customer service was prompt with fixing it. Therefore my issue rate is just 16% for that brand. Perhaps, in order to address your question of reliability being skewed by bad experiences from 10+ years ago, there should just be a list of modern detectors we can select as having owned and then report our experiences from that. Viewers today are going to be most interested in reliability on detectors they can currently buy.

    This was super cool, I appreciate you doing this, more outlets should run this kind of analysis.
    I didn't get the survey, or didn't see it when you were running it, but I've owned two radar detectors, the very old cobra model, and a uniden R8 at your recommendation.
    The cobra worked but had way too many false alerts and I eventually had to retire it. Spending almost 10 times more and learning through all the knowledge that I gained once I discovered your forum, the unit in R8 almost never falsees and I've had zero issues in the past 6 months that I've been running in.
    If you need further help running statistics projects, please reach out to me directly. I run quite a few for both my job and for some personal gaming efforts on the side

Uniden:, 3 minor issues (GPS, display confusion) out of three devices. Escort: Currently none in service. 2 major issues in past.. lockups, and one unit complete failure.
    Great video. Dashcam data will help with near term buying decision.

      While I agree it’s not a perfect unit, I really don’t have any major issues. It stands up to Ohio summers well, records reliably and the parking mode is great. The app works good for me as wel (IOS)

    My R7 ive had since release not 1 issue. My R3 had it since released also only issues were the speaker which took 5 minutes to change and the burn in the screen. My RL360C all 3 of them only 1 has burn in the screen the other 2 maybe because there older and not used as much ive got no problems with them. My 2 TMG A15 SYSTEMS haven't had an issue with either one yet. The TMG A17 i just installed so far is fine. Now im waiting on the R9 to be released and go in the Cherokee i just brought and intrested in seeing your reviews on the R9 radar busters has released a bunch of videos of the R9 and it seems promising but im more interested in the Jammers since i own every uniden detector out from the R3 R4 R7 and R8 and don't think ill be trying any new ones from other manufacturers as uniden seems to be what ive been running just about everyday. I also have a question for you i left my RL360C on Version 1.6 and updated my other one to 1.11 which makes it extremely quiet but now won't even alert to my local sheriff's who run k band at 24.090 to 24.115 but the firmware 1.6 still picks it up but my R3 is a beast on picking up the sheriff's so i might run my R8 and the R3 just on Kband with the R8 kband off hoping they don’t interfere with each other.

    @blackboxmycar I need GPS, speed and other telemetry on the (on the fly) uploaded video as I drive. I drive mainly at night (not uber etc hence 3 ch not a neccesity). The best Parking mode is not a deal breaker as the car doesn't need the best protection. I mainly need highway protection in case of accident and I am incapacitated and unable to secure my SD card or the dreaded insane traffic stop where I am unable to secure my SD card because of one reason or another(read betweeen the lines). I am thinking of thinkware, blackvue and nexxar. Which brand or model would you recommend?

    Even if it's not perfect, this survey is valuable. I had one of the original Escorts, a Passport and a few other Escorts over the years. I got tired of the squawk of false alarms, and have run "naked" for years. I have been eyeing a new detector, and had settled on an Escort Redline 360 , as it seemed the most quiet with the newest updates. As an iPhone user, it seemed the best bet, although the Valentine might have been my choice were it not for falsing. I'm having second thoughts now, based on this survey.

    • @stancummings6257
      @stancummings6257 Před 11 měsíci +3

      Don't regret it you made the right decision. The V1G2 is a great detector if you add JBV1 to it otherwise it's a black box with arrows that makes noise. The RL360C is a great detector and hasn't had any real issues the updated version 1.11 has made it a great detector again and you don't need your phone to make it that way like the V1G2

    Can you go over how you power your Wi-Fi hotspots to supply your dash cam, say the U3000 to last 10 days at the airport in parking mode?. I bought the u3000 understanding it needed an always on hotspot but Verizon’s choices only last 24 hours, with its built in battery fully charged. Even with a dedicated power cell, it would only last another two days. I’d have to daisy chain 4 powecell 7500mAh batteries to get 10 days while the U3000 uses just one iVolt 7500 mAh battery for the ten days. This seems to make the Blackvue LTE cameras more compelling but their parking modes aren’t as robust as the u3000, or so it seems? I know BlackVue used to sell the power magic pro that connected to the OBDII port and had settings to limit car main battery drain. I don’t see that for sale plus don’t want to arrive home at the airport and not have my car start. Also, you might go over EV installs for hotspots and dashcams since they don’t all have OBDII ports?

I think Tesla’s solution is incredible, especially hardware 4.0 but no audio. I own a Q5 PHEV ‘’21 and A5 cab ‘18, Honda ‘17 CRV so needed other solutions. • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 11 měsíci

      From what I understand Vantrue using a new factory for their newer models and so it’s possible that there’s some variances depending on what’s made where, but that’s it’s speculation on my part.

      @Vortex Radar possibly but I doubt that they are using a factory dedicated for IATF 16949:2016 or VDA 6.3 for 'dashcam' simply because of the investments that are required to fulfill and maintain such standards can only be reflected onto the pricing. Also judging from the design, its no way automotive. They are consumer based. The Thinkware U3000 is a good example of an IATF product which is also the sister model of BMW's (Thinkware) Ace 3.0 Pro which I really like and have put on order. One can max. bitrate to get quality videos but key is reliability and durability over time and EMC fulfilment. It's more than just reading number plates my friend.

      For any dashcam enthusiast, any dashcam that doesn't sell with a genuine micro-SD card included shouldn't be on his/her recommended shopping list. This is my best advice.
      My recommended dashcam of 2023: Thinkware U3000 (if you are an enthusiast watching this channel)
      Why? It's beyond IATF. Think it might even fulfill ECE-R21 safety standards.
      Thanks!

      @@VortexRadar to add-on,
      1. The brand needs to be IATF certified for the product that is developed from scratch
      2. Check if the brand is stated on the IATF certificate.
      Thinkware and Vugera have one in their brand and they own their own factory.

    For people that have the laser jammers. Do you ever get pulled over by police and grilled by them because you “jammed” their laser?

      No if you kill the system after you get to a respectful speed and they can get a reading usually your fine. There are people who are not responsible enough to kill the jammers in time and yes that will get you stopped for a road side chat. There is no reason to jam to gun after slowing down.

    This is pretty interesting data. Thanks for taking the time to pull this together!
    I saw the survey, but didn’t answer. I think in the future, it may be more accurate if the questions asked how many detectors of each brand were owned and how many of each brand had issues. If I own 4 of the same brand but have issues with 1, the actual percentage of units with issues is 25%, but the percentage of owners with issues, which is what the current reported number really means, would be 100%. When there’s no benchmark for how many actual units are represented in the survey, I think the percentage of units with no issues can be under counted.
    I didn’t check, but I think another caveat I’d add to reporting detector issues, is a time period. A 10 year old detector that just developed a major issue is much different than a 6 month old detector with major issues. If we feel the average useful life of a detector is 4 years (just throwing a number out there) I’d be sure my question limited the time to 4 years. That would even the playing field out to a period a reasonable person would expect their detector to be functional.
    Just a couple of quick thoughts. Thanks again for all of the work.

    Vortex reported in a video about a month ago that the 360c is his daily driver, basically due to it being the quietest of the detectors. He reported 3 false alerts with the Escort where the others, including Uniden reported 30-40 false alerts. Yet the first comment that i read is that the Escort is too 'chatty'. Vortex also reported two years ago that the Escort is the easiest to update, that it will update over wifi with one button push. The 2nd comment I read about escort is difficulty with doing updates. So this survey to me is basically dont believe anything you hear and only half of what you see (read)......

      Imagine how crazy it is trying to make recommendations where no matter what you say, some people like it, some don’t. Some people thing X falses / hour is too many while others think it’s great. Some people find updating easy while others get tripped up by which USB cable they need or how to install update software. I’ve said it over and over and over again that there is no universally applicable answer to what is “best” and that YMMV. If you’re looking for a simple and straightforward answer to this stuff, good luck lol.

      @@VortexRadar Agree. That is why I listen to your feedback, the others that write i take with a grain of salt due to blatant bias. I dont care if my detector is 1 second slower than another brand, what i am concerned with is trusting the alert and i'll cover the brake pedal if my detector is only going off 3 times in a week, but if it is going off 30-40 times in a week then I either get frustrated or I start ignoring the alerts, so the one second advantage that i had is lost anyway. And if i'm covering my brake pedal that many times i might as well do the speed limit in which case i have to ask myself why i invested in a detector to begin with. My two cents.
