Just to be clear, your whole thing at the beginning about the movie becoming too wacky and random isn't much of the film's fault, the books are turning into this too. For example, in The Getaway, the family becomes wanted criminals during a vacation only because of insane bad luck and the parents' idiocy. Greg is miserable without even trying.
Thats because kinney is burnt out, but wants the mulah rolling in. The thing is, he could easily just do a spinoff like he did with the rowley diary, and he would be fine.
The Getaway is literally the worst book in the diary of a wimpy kid franchise, i feel like i lost braincells while reading it

I used to watch that on DVD all the time when I was really little. I got it at school. I still have it I believe.
Bostick was the perfect intimidating, punk older brother in the first films. Between the room setup, wardrobe/makeup, and the way he looked/acted. Perfect.
Roderick was (and still is) my favourite character from the original trilogy. The casting choice was perfect. Devin Bostick nailed the role. And the comedy with him always made me laugh.

There are three wimpy kid movies, and 1 long haul movie
The third movie, Dog Days, was the perfect place to end the series. Holly shows affection for Greg, and the movie ends with Greg, Holly, and Rowley hanging out by the pool, with Greg remarking how much he enjoyed that summer. That would've been the perfect place to end the series.
I actually like how much you show and explain why Greg’s decisions make him a perfect active protagonist instead of random situations brewing up out of convenience

You know, it is pretty weird how they set up the other family in the film. I remember reading the book when it came out. All of the situations related to them were caused by Greg and their involvement was more of a Rosencratz and Guildenstern but on screen. They were planning a similar road trip and it began when Greg got his family’s stuff lost and blamed it on this other family for having the correct locker key at the water park screwing them over. The other family is much more tame in the book and they would have a good reason to be worse there. I’m the film they’re just crazy people

I have the book detailing the movie's development, here are some things a found in it:
- The studio choose "The Long Haul" to make into a movie because they wanted to get the characters out of their regular world.
- Some cut scenes include laser tag, a Spanish heavy metal group, and a bull chase.
- The pig is an animatronic in some scenes.
- Some of the metal chairs in the game expo were used in the Hunger Games movies (random, I know.)
- Jeff Kinney makes a cameo in the movie as one of the game expo booth operators.
